Buoyed by my recent success recording a session of Quake, I give you: Scorched Earth! This game was one of the first I played regularly, on my friend's 386. My first play in several years, using DOSbox and recorded with fraps. No audio, because I still haven't worked out how to send Windows audio-out to fraps audio-in. http://www.whicken.com/scorch/ http://www.dosbox.com/ And apologies for what YouTube has done to the resolution. It was a 720x480 source.

In a fit of nostalgia and bloody-mindedness I got Quake, GLquake, Windows and fraps to all work together to let me record my first Quake session in many, many moons. Here are intro, e1m1, and e1m2, as played by me, several years out of practice and with my modern trackball setup instead of the traditional mouse. Excuse the sound of my old laptop's fans spinning up, I'll have to work out how to get fraps to record audio-out.

A run through the first episode of 1996's Quake, using the modern(?) quakespasm engine. Not sure if the bugs are because of the engine, or because I forgot to drop '-game omicron' from the command line. * Quake: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2310/QUAKE/ * quakespasm: http://quakespasm.sourceforge.net/

A brief cycle through the 6 original deathmatch maps in 1996's Quake, using the modern(?) quakespasm engine and the legendary Omicron bot. I'm not very good. * Quake: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2310/QUAKE/ * quakespasm: http://quakespasm.sourceforge.net/ * Omicron bot: http://mrelusive.com/oldprojects/obots/obots.html

Webcam placed in the office window, recording from 3.00am to 8.20pm on 2012-03-19. One shot every 30 seconds, played back at 20fps. Sorry about the low quality, it's an old Logitech QuickCam 3000 (had to hack the drivers to even get it to run in Win7). Also sorry about the overbright burn at sunrise. I'd fix it if I could be bothered editing the hundreds of frames.
