Konniche wah, GojiMan here. Its good to see all your smiling faces again. In todays vlog I give you the Ultimate Guide To vegan b12 sources all the way from sunny Cornwall. Now a lot of this information you won’t have heard before so you aren’t going to want to miss this. Roll the titles. If this is our first time meeting, hello. I vlog on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on vegan health and nutrition. I am currently just finishing a masters in nutrition and qualifying as a nutritionist and next year I will be doing a Phd in nutritional science. So hit that subscribe button, hit that bell notification and make me a happy smiling vegan! So lets get to the video. Vitamin B12 (also known as cobalamin) is critical in the body. It plays a pivotal role in DNA synthesis, blood and bone health, heart health, detoxification as well as being critical in the maintenance of your nervous system and brain health. Although rare, long term severe b12 deficiency can lead to anemia, paralysis and even death, so you want to ensure that you get enough B12 to ensure optimal health. A common B12 myth is that since b12 is found in meat, dairy and egg products, you have to eat these products or you will run into deficiency. It is also suggested that b12 proves that we were born to eat meat. It is really important for your health though to understand that animals do not make B12. It is made by microorganisms living in the soil and water. So simply put, B12 is made by bacteria. B12 is found in animal products because they eat grass, plants and small amounts of soil that contain B12. This B12 is then swallowed by the animal and then deposited in their muscles. In years gone by, humans got their sources of vitamin B12 in the same way. Our ancestors would spend hours every day foraging for fruits and vegetables that were pulled from the ground and contained sufficient levels of B12. If they were thirsty then they would drink well water that contained B12. Fast forward to today and these same fruits and vegetable are sprayed with every type of pesticide/herbicide possible and washed within an inch of their lives. Tap water is also heavily chlorinated. So the traditional and optimal sources of B12 have been obliterated. Vegans therefore need to find alternative sources. Before supplementing, everyone should look at getting tested for B12 levels. But it doesn’t just stop there. You need to test for B12 in conjunction with homocysteine and serum folate. And let me explain why. Firstly you need to ensure you have B12 levels are in the range of 600ng/l or above. The reason for this is there is not enough circulating B12 in your tissues, or enough serum folate, then a troublesome molecule called homocysteine is able to build up. And this is something you really want to avoid at all costs. Homocysteine damages artery walls and allows plaque formation. The net result of this is heart attacks and strokes. So please please please never listen to anyone who says that heart attacks are simply cause by eating meat, dairy and eggs. This is why I always recommend that people test for b12, homocysteine and serum folate at the same time because it gives you a true picture of what’s actually happening in your body. Your homocysteine score will tell you if your B12 and folate levels are adequate and vice versa. Testing for just B12 will not give you a true picture. Ideally homocysteine should be below 12 micromols/L. If it is above this coupled with low b12 levels then you know your body is not getting adequate sources of b12. You will therefore need to increase b12 supplentation intake. If your folate levels are also low then consume dark leafy greens on a daily basis and then retest all levels after three months. I would suggest that you retest after 3 months after starting to optimise your b12, homocysteine and folate levels to ensure your body is absorbing ok. If not then you could have an absorption problem…… but that is a topic for another video. Once you have everything optimised then I would advise testing b12, homocysteine and folate levels on a yearly basis. The best source will be dependent on your needs and your genetics. There is no one size that fits all. I personally take a supplement every day. Before I tell you which one and why let me break down your options. There are 4 types of b12: cyanocobalamin, hydroxycabalamin, methylcobalamin adenosylcobalamin Cyanocobalamin is least expensive and most stable (so doesn’t degrade as quick on the shelf), but there are concerns around that fact that it releases a small amount of cyanide as it is metabolised in the body. Cyanocobalamin and hydroxycobalamin are forms of b12 that can also be difficult for people to convert into the active forms of B12 if they have the homozygous MTHFR mutation. You need MTHFR enzymes to produce the active form.

Did you know that Vitamin-D isn’t actually a vitamin? It’s a steroid hormone that our bodies produce when we get enough sunshine. We can also get it from certain food sources or from supplements. Whatever it is, getting enough Vitamin-D is vital. Vitamin-D deficiency has been linked to heart disease, breast, colon and prostate-cancer, depression, weight-gain and more. While doctors can’t say for sure that a lack of Vitamin-D causes these conditions, it has been proven that people with higher levels of Vitamin-D have a lower risk of these diseases. In addition to lowering your risk of illness, Vitamin-D plays some very specific roles in the body such as: • Contributing to the formation and preservation of strong and healthy bones • Boosting the immune-system and fighting infection • Helping the muscles function • Helping circulation and heart health Certain categories of people are more at risk of developing Vitamin-D deficiency than others. If you fall into one or more of the following categories, you should get your Vitamin-D levels checked. You’re Over 50 – as we age, our skin doesn’t make as much Vitamin-D from the sun. Our kidneys also convert less Vitamin-D into the form our bodies need it in. You Have Dark Skin – because skin pigment acts as a natural sunscreen, the darker your skin, the more sun exposure you need. It’s estimated that African Americans need as much as 10-times the sun exposure of those with pale skin, to meet Vitamin D needs. You’re Overweight or Obese – Vitamin D is fat-soluble, meaning the more body fat you have, the more Vitamin-D you’ll need. You have Digestive Issues – if you suffer from digestive problems that affect your intestines ability to absorb Vitamin-D from your food, then you may be deficient. Type of Climate – naturally, if you live in a climate with little or no sun, then your body won’t be able to make all the Vitamin-D it needs from sunshine. Still worried you might be Vitamin-D deficient? Here are some signs you should be watching out for: 1.Depression or Anxiety Low levels of Vitamin-D have been linked with depression and anxiety. The bottom line is, if you’re struggling with low moods or cognitive problems, then it can be a sign you’re lacking in Vitamin D. 2.Achy, Weak or Broken Bones When it comes to bone health, the two most important nutrients are calcium and Vitamin D. If you’re constantly getting achy bones (known as osteomalacia), fractures or breaks, then a Vitamin D deficiency might be to blame. 3.Problems Sleeping If you can’t nod off despite following a perfect night time routine, filling your bedroom with plants to help you sleep and employing a whole host of natural sleep remedies, then it might be that you’re lacking in the sunshine vitamin. Low Vitamin D levels can seriously mess up your sleeping pattern and cause sleep disorders like insomnia, sleep apnea, REM related apnea, unexplained awakenings and inappropriate body movements during sleep. 4.Frequent Infections Since Vitamin D plays a vital role in a well-functioning immune system, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that frequent infections (cause by poor immunity) signal a lack of Vitamin D. German researchers have found that Vitamin D increases your immune function by up to 5 times, while boosting your ability to fight off infections and viruses. It is actually a B12 Deficiency. Anyone that has liver damage will going to have hard time absorbing B12. B12 Deficiency: • Low Stomach Acid • Gastric Bypass (You don’t have the full capacity of the digestive system) • IBS (Crohn’s and Inflammatory Problem of the Bowel) • Vegan – add B12 in the form of Methylcobalamin (Natural Form) • Anti-Acids • Alcohol – Can deplete B12. Foods high on B12: • Eggs • Animal Meats • Dairy Hey guys, I recently have a question from someone that wanted to know what causes burning tongue and this is the same with burning mouth or sore mouth. It is actually a B12 deficiency, now the question is how do you become B12 deficient? There are several ways that could happen, no. 1, Low Stomach Acid, Gastric Bypass and therefore you don’t have the full capacity of the digestive systems and you can’t absorb B12, some type of problems in your digestive system like IBS, or Crohn’s and Inflammatory Problem of the Bowel could do it as well, being a Vegan could do it as well because most of the B12 comes from either eggs, animals meats or animal organs, dairy so if you’re a vegan you might want to add B12 in the form of Methylcobalamin, this is the Natural Form do not get the cyanocobalamin, and drinking Alcohol can deplete B12, that’s why alcoholics are actually deficient in B12. For that matter anyone that has liver damage could have a hard time absorbing B12. Alright? There you have it. Thanks for watching! How to Keep Your Dog Healthy. If you're a dog owner, you surely want your pet to be healthy and to live a long and happy life. But you might sometimes do things that can potentially harm your canine companion without even realizing it. Here are some common mistakes people unintentionally make when it comes to taking care of their doggies. TIMESTAMPS Choosing the wrong collar 1:00 Leaving a dog alone in the car 3:08 Neglecting your dog's teeth 4:15 Letting your dog eat everything 6:07 Bringing puppies to a dog park 7:47 Using physical punishment 8:13 Providing too little stimulation 9:48 Not securing your dog in the car 10:31 Yelling when your dog does something wrong 11:05 Skipping flea, tick, and worming treatment 11:28 Leaving harmful objects around 11:51 Neglecting breed-specific health issues 12:22 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY -There are several types of collars, and you need pick the one that best suits the needs and character of your pup, as well as a place to attach his license. Whether you've settled on a harness or gone for a collar, the second (and just as important!) step is making sure it’s the right size. If a collar or harness is too big, your pooch may escape. -Dogs don't sweat like people do, so they can overheat much faster than you’d think. And since they lack this crucial ability to cool themselves off, the consequences of staying in a locked car can turn out fatal. -A dog’s teeth need to be cleaned just like people’s teeth do. Don't use toothpastes and toothbrushes designed for people! There are special ones made just for dogs, and they’re pretty different from the human kinds. -Never feed human food to your dog! It's way too salty, too spicy, and too fatty for them. In fact, most dishes you eat are severely toxic for them. -To start with, dogs can sometimes be passive carriers of diseases. Secondly, grown-up dogs, especially large ones, can be incredibly rough when playing and running around. -Physical punishment doesn’t work and actually does the opposite of what you want – it makes your dog scared of you. Reward-based training is much more effective than physical discipline. -Just like you, dogs need constant mental and physical stimulation-, especially working breeds, which is why regular walking is a must. -If you don’t secure your dog in the car and you end up in an accident, your pet can get seriously injured or even killed. -Dogs don’t understand “NO”, so it only freaks your dog out, especially if you’re ticked off about something that happened a while ago. -Some people say you can take a break from flea, tick, and heartworm medicine in winter if you live in a cold climate, but you really should discuss it with your veterinarian. -Dog-proof your house by putting away anything your pet can chew or swallow. Things like medications, screws and nails, magnets, coins, and batteries should never be within your pet’s reach. -Always do your research before you get a pet so that you’ll know how to best take care of it and what problems to look out for. Vitamin B12, also called cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin that is involved in the metabolism of every cell of the human body: it is a cofactor in DNA synthesis, and in both fatty acid and amino acid metabolism. It is particularly important in the normal functioning of the nervous system via its role in the synthesis of myelin (myelinogenesis), and in the maturation of developing red blood cells in the bone marrow. Vitamin B12 is one of eight B vitamins; it is the largest and most structurally complicated vitamin. It consists of a class of chemically related compounds (vitamers), all of which show physiological activity. It contains the biochemically rare element cobalt (chemical symbol Co) positioned in the center of a planar tetra-pyrrole called a corrin ring. Only certain bacteria, notably such as the normal gut bacteria in ruminates, and archaea, synthesize hydroxocobalamin: not fungi, plants, or animals, including humans. Conversion to the other three forms of the vitamin occurs in the ruminates after absorption and transport to inside cells.

Tony, 49, and Alvaro, 50, claim there was a time when they were ‘addicted to getting big’ but now believe they have it under control. Alvaro had been injecting his biceps and legs with a supplement - called Potenay B12 - on and off since he was 15 years old. Tony followed in his older brother’s footsteps. Meal Planning Mastery: http://mealplanningmastery.com Free Meal Plan: http://nutritionandfitness.net/free-meal-plan/ Books: http://www.amazon.com/author/felixharder -----BLOG & SOCIAL MEDIA----- Blog: http://nutritionandfitness.net Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/1144573178965883/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/simplemuscle Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nutritionandfitnessnet/ DESCRIPTION We all know that the right intake of vitamins is crucial for health and fitness. But if you have ever taken a vitamin supplement you might have asked yourself: Can you take too much of them or even overdose? The answer is a clear yes, but since they are not all equally processed by the body you are more likely to overdose on some than others. There are some vitamins that are easily stored in the body, and if you consume too much of them you will notice the effects. On the other hand, some vitamins are not stored that easily, and you will just pee out any excess intake. Which vitamins are you most likely to overdose? All vitamins are either fat-soluble or water-soluble vitamins. Fat-soluble vitamins are processed and stored along with fat, which is also why it makes sense to take them along with a meal. Your body will then use these stores when it needs them. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble, and if you get more of them than you need your body will accumulate them in your fat tissue. Water-soluble vitamins, which include vitamin C and all the B vitamins, are not so easily stored in the body and therefore if you consume a large amount of them you will usually pee out everything your body doesn’t need. That’s why it’s a lot more common to overdose on fat-soluble vitamins than on water-soluble vitamins (with a few exceptions, which I will get into in a second). So, what are the symptoms of a vitamin overdose? This really depends on the individual vitamin, which is why I want to present you the most important ones now. Let’s start with vitamin A. Vitamin A Overdose Usually, a vitamin A overdose happen slowly and over time. Some initial signs include dry skin, hair loss and cracked lips. If you keep going, you would experience irritability, headache and your liver would start to suffer. Now, if for some weird reason you took a huge amount of vitamin A, there is such a thing as an acute vitamin A overdose. Here, symptoms would be very severe and you would start puking, your head would hurt like crazy and you could potentially die. But don’t worry, the only time this could happen besides excessive supplementation, would be if you ate the liver of certain animals – including the polar bear or walrus – which you probably won’t eat unless you are an Eskimo. Vitamin B Overdose Next on the list are the B vitamins. Even though they are water soluble, a few of them can be problematic in large amounts. For example, a vitamin B6 overdose can cause nerve damage, too much B3 can lead to nausea and too much folic acid (or vitamin b9) can cause breathing problems. Vitamin D Overdose Then we have vitamin D. Overdoses on vitamin D are extremely rare, especially because most of us are actually deficient in it, but it’s still possible. Too much vitamin D can cause acute vomiting and diarrhea and if taken over longer periods of time you can run into kidneys and heart problems. But we are talking about doses of around 50,000 IU per day here. This is more than 20 times what your usual vitamin D supplement will have. The Real Danger – Iron Overdose Now that we went through the most important overdoses of vitamins, there is one mineral I have to talk about because unlike most vitamin overdoses this one is actually pretty common. Probably the most widely known and the most dangerous overdose is an iron overdose. Of course, the body needs iron for the production of red blood cells, but an iron overdose can actually kill you. It doesn’t happen often in adults, but for young children and infants it’s a problem. That’s because iron is one of the few minerals we cannot eliminate unless we lose blood. So excessive supplementation will lead to accumulations in the body. Of course, all this is not meant to scare you. As with everything in nutrition, there is a fine line between the ideal dose and too much or too little. Supplements can really increase your quality of life and are an important part of a well-rounded diet. But since there is a fine line between taking the right amount for your health and taking too much, your best bet is to go see a doctor and get your levels checked. Don’t just buy something and take massive amounts of it, before talking to a specialist. There are a number of folk remedies people believe protect them from mosquito bites like drinking alcohol, eating garlic, or taking vitamin B. These do not appear to provide any benefit in lab studies and in fact drinking alcohol is associated with increased mosquito activity because it causes blood vessels near the surface of the skin to dilate. AMAZING DISCOVERY: THIS VITAMIN TREATS LUNG INFLAMMATION WITHIN 3 HOURS! In 1940, Doctor of medicine Frederick Klener documented that adequate intake of vitamin C has the ability to treat over 30 different diseases, including pneumonia. If you experience chills and cough, it is most likely a virus to be a cause of pneumonia. This can cause an accumulation of fluid in the lungs, which in most cases leads to death. Unfortunately, antibiotics do not help when it comes to dealing with a viral infection, and a weakened immune system and neglected lymphatic system is the basis for creating bronchitis, which like most other diseases, requires great caution in treatment. Davey Wicklund, 11, from Renton, Washington, has a rare inherited disorder that affects his muscle control called Lesch Nyhan syndrome. Davey’s mother, Jaren explained: "Lesch Nyhan syndrome is basically cerebral palsy with self injury. Davey has got the extreme. He cannot stand, walk, he cannot pull his head up for long time, independently. He has got the muscle strength, but not the ability to control.” The parents have to take special measures daily to ensure that Davey doesn’t hurt himself; including arm braces, kangaroo-type pouches to tuck his legs in and a rubber mouth contraception to stop him biting his lip. I recently started taking DIM and liquid B12 Vitamin with Folic Acid, and I'm here to share with you some of the reasons why I am doing this. The main reason I started taking DIM (Diindolymethane +Greens blend) is to balance my estrogen. DIM will help with my monthly cycle, to reduce the pain and symptoms associated with astrogen imbalance. I bought my vitamin at WholeFoods Store for less than $20. So far I will say that it has definitely helped with my gassiness. I bought Liquid Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid mainly because many people are deficient in this very import vitamin; I figured I probably need it. So, since I just started, I cannot really make any recommendation as I do not yet see the benefits or results of taking either vitamins yet. I will check back in 30 days. Humans, unlike most animals, are unable to synthesize vitamin C endogenously, so it is an essential dietary component Vitamin C is required for the biosynthesis of collagen, L-carnitine, and certain neurotransmitters; vitamin C is also involved in protein metabolism. Collagen is an essential component of connective tissue, which plays a vital role in wound healing. Vitamin C is also an important physiological antioxidant and has been shown to regenerate other antioxidants within the body, including alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E) Ongoing research is examining whether vitamin C, by limiting the damaging effects of free radicals through its antioxidant activity, might help prevent or delay the development of certain cancers, cardiovascular disease, and other diseases in which oxidative stress plays a causal role. In addition to its biosynthetic and antioxidant functions, vitamin C plays an important role in immune function and improves the absorption of nonheme iron , the form of iron present in plant-based foods. Insufficient vitamin C intake causes scurvy, which is characterized by fatigue or lassitude, widespread connective tissue weakness, and capillary fragility Sources of Vitamin C Facebook : https://goo.gl/MVxQZW Twitter : https://goo.gl/gntYYK Instagram : https://goo.gl/EYGiHs Google+ : https://goo.gl/dgMisN Subscribe Youtube : https://goo.gl/WkUMHc Disclaimer: This video is only intended for an informational purpose.Any information associated with this video should not be considered as a substitute for prescription suggested by beauty, diet and health care professionals.Readers are subjected to use this information on their own risk. This channel doesn’t take any responsibility for any harm, side-effects, illness or any health or skin care problems caused due to the use of our content or anything related to this..

Today I'm going to talk about the nutritional compounds found in bone broth, you can find them in all sorts of bone broth including beef bone broth. You can also find a premade bone broth like ours with Truth Nutra - https://truthnutra.com/total-broth Bone broth is essentially nature's multi vitamin. When you make this broth you're getting so many amino acids, bone broth protein, collagen, gelatin - all these bone broth benefits impact your connective tissues, gut lining, muscles. There's so much good stuff in bone broth: 1. Glycosaminoglycan GAG: GAGs have the role of supporting and maintaining the collagen found in your skin, joints, tendons, etc. GAGs are very important in supporting your digestive tract as well. When you're deficient in GAGs you start to have gut related issues, wrinkles, achy joints. 2. Glucosamine: glucosamine is naturally available in beef bone broth, it's an important component in your joint health. As you get older you'll likely become deficient in glucosamine. You can drink more bone broth to get natural glucosamine. 3. Hyaluronic Acid: this is important for cellular function and growth in your skin. When you're deficient in hyaluronic acid your skin will lose elasticity. 4. Chondroitin: it's found in the cartilage of all animals, but you can find it naturally in bone broth - it supports your joints well. 5. Minerals and electrolytes: bone broth contains a ton of electrolytes. If you drink bone broth regularly you can get all the electrolytes you'll need and you wouldn't need to take sports drinks etc. Sodium, calcium, magnesium, and potassium as well as phosphorus are rich in bone broth. 6. Collagen - collagen is the main structural protein found in the body, and is great for connective tissues, skin, and gut health. Raw milk is rich in beneficial bacteria. As a living food, raw milk is rich in beneficial bacteria. These bacteria are critical to your health; indeed, beneficial bacteria are so critical to human health that you cannot live without them. They’re responsible for stimulating and training your immune system to function correctly. By consuming foods rich in beneficial bacteria – like raw or cultured dairy products and naturally fermented foods – you can help to optimize the levels of beneficial bacteria present in your gut. These bacterial allies are destroyed by pasteurization and are absent in pasteurized and UHT milk. In addition to beneficial bacteria, raw milk has the potential to harbor pathogenic bacteria, and it has the potential to make you sick, just as raw oysters, rare meat and other foods do. While it’s relatively rare, it is a real risk. Raw milk is rich in food enzymes. As a living food, raw milk is also rich in natural food enzymes: lactase, lipase and phosphatase number among many of these natural enzymes. These enzymes help your body to better digest milk and better metabolize its vital nutrients. Enzymes like phosphatase help the body to better absorb milk’s calcium while other enzymes like amylase and lactase help you digest the sugars present in milk. It’s the presence of the enzyme lactase that help some individuals who are otherwise sensitive to lactose better digest raw milk. Raw milk is rich in natural vitamins. The butterfat present in raw milk is rich in natural fat-soluble soluble vitamins, particularly preformed vitamin A, vitamin K and vitamin E. Raw milk is also rich in water-soluble vitamins like vitamin C and B-complex vitamins. Many vitamins, like food enzymes, are delicate Raw butterfat is rich in Conjugated Linoleic Acid. Meat and milk from grass-fed animals is rich in fatty compound called Conjugated Linoleic Acid or CLA. Actually classified as a trans-fatty acid (but a good transfat!), CLA offers myriad myriad positive effects for those who consume it. Indeed, research indicates that this substance is known to fight cancer (particularly breast, intestinal and bone cancers), hypertension and adipose obesity. If you’re sourcing your raw milk well, you’re only sourcing it from grass-fed cows which means you’re consuming this important fatty acid – something that’s missing from that factory-farmed, pasteurized and skimmed milk at the grocery store (and yes, organic milk drinkers – there’s plenty of factory farming in the organic industry too!) Raw milk supports small farmers, not confinement dairies. Pastuerization of milk was born out of necessity – as unhealthy cows from concentrated animal feed operations produce unhealthy milk. Cows sickened by confinement and an unnatural diet of grain and mash produce lackluster, thin milk poor in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients and rich in pathogenic bacteria. Sick milk from sick cows makes for sick people. Pasteurization kills pathogenic bacteria just as it kills beneficial bacteria. When you purchase pasteurized milk at the store – unless you’re careful about your brand – you’re purchasing it from farms and cooperatives that follow industrial practices like confining their animals, subtherapeutic and routine use of antibiotics, and feeding grain- and soy-based feed which changes the nutritional properties of the milk Raw milk clabbers. Leave a carton of pasteurized milk out on the counter for a few days, and you’ll end up with a putrid, stinking glop. By contrast, raw milk will clabber as its naturally occurring beneficial lactic-acid producing bacteria proliferate and turn raw milk into a probiotic-rich, yogurt-like food. Bonny clabber is a traditional food originally from Scotland, though most peoples across the globe enjoy similarly clabbered milks through their traditional food heritage. Clabbered raw milk is not only edible, but particularly healthful as its sugars have been metabolized by lactic-acid producing bacteria and continue to proliferate. Moreover, milk that has been subject to pasteurization at ultra-high temperatures isn’t even suitable for cheesemaking. Raw milk supports your local economy. Raw milk is a delicate food and is not suited to traveling long distance, nor is it shelf-stable at room temperature. Pasteurized milks and UHT milks in particular can and do travel long distances before arriving from the dairy to your door. These milks are often mixed with the milks of several dairies prior to pasteurization so you, as a consumer, lose the opportunity to question your dairy farmer about the milk you serve your family. Further, the money you spend on such milk is divied between your grocery store, the broker/supplier, the branded dairy and, lastly, the farmer. By purchasing raw milk locally and farmer-direct, 100% of the money you spend on your milk stays in your farmers pocket and in your local economy.

Have you ever wondered who lives longer: vegans or meat-eaters? Get ready because we’re about to answer the eternal question of what’s the ideal diet for a longer life. 9. Body Mass Index The body mass index or BMI is a value defined as the body mass divided by the square of the body height which used to categorize people as either underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. According to the World Health Organization, the normal BMI range is between 18.5 and 25. A BMI of less than 18.5 is classified as underweight and may indicate malnutrition, an eating disorder, or other health problems, while a BMI equal to or greater than 25 is considered overweight and above 30 is considered obese. Over the past few decades, the average body mass index has been rapidly increasing in developed countries, which explains the rising rates of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. So what are the BMI differences between vegans and meat-eater and what can they tell us about which diet is healthier? One research study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic collected dietary data from five groups: meat-eaters, occasional meat-eaters or semi-vegetarians, vegetarians who eat fish, vegetarians who consume dairy, and vegans. Data was collected from 71,751 men and women, with an average age of 59. The caloric intake was similar among all dietary patterns — about 2,000 calories a day. Researchers found that average BMI was lowest among vegans, while average BMI was highest among the meat-eaters. When looking specifically at obesity, researchers found that vegans had the lowest percentage of people who were obese — just 9.4 percent — while meat-eaters had the highest percentage of people who were obese — 33.3 percent. While diet isn’t the only factor in weight, it’s clear that a vegan diet is associated with a lower BMI. But BMI is not the be all and end all statistic for health or longevity, so let’s now look at the nutritional differences between vegans and meat-eaters. 8. Nutritional Deficiencies in Vegans People who eat a strictly plant-based diet have a higher risk of developing nutritional deficiencies caused by lack of animal protein in their diet than meat-eaters. The more restrictive the diet, the higher the risk of nutritional deficiencies, especially when it comes to eight essential nutrients that you can’t get from plant foods. These include: vitamin B12, vitamin D3, creatine, carnosine, heme-iron, taurine, and sulfur. These nutritional deficiencies can lead to a number of health problems, including anemia, lower bone density, impaired thyroid function, acne, fatigue, and even depression. In fact, one study from the Bristol University found that vegans and vegetarians are almost twice as likely to suffer from depression as those who consume a conventional balanced diet. Vegans and vegetarians don’t consume enough vitamin B12 and omega-6 fatty acids, which has have been linked with an increased risk of mental health problems. Another potential contributing factor is that lower intake of seafood is thought to be associated with greater risk of depressive symptoms. But before we go into nutritional deficiencies of vegans in depth, take a second to subscribe to our channel so you don’t miss any of our upcoming content! 7. Vitamins B12 and D3 In terms of health risks from eating a vegan diet, most people first think of vitamin B12 deficiency, as vitamin B12 is present in natural form only in animal sources of food, such as meat, fish, dairy products, and eggs. Vitamin B12 is known as the energy vitamin, and your body needs it for a number of vital functions, including energy production, blood formation, DNA synthesis, and reproductive health. One way vegans can prevent Vitamin B12 deficiency is by either taking supplements or consuming seaweed and fermented soy which contain small amounts of bioactive B12. However, the effectiveness of eating seaweed or taking an oral B12 supplement has been questioned by scientists. Vitamin D is a hormone involved in the biochemical cellular machinery of all cells and tissues in your body and you can get it primarily from sun exposure and certain foods. Main food sources ..

5 Health Benefits Of Barley Water 1. Heart Health Barley is rich in vitamins, including B vitamins that help your body break down amino acid homocysteine that is connected to stroke and heart disease. Consuming B vitamins may even help cut atherosclerosis risk, though further study in this area is warranted before supplementation is recommended. In the meanwhile, ensuring you meet your daily recommended levels through consuming B vitamin rich foods like barley water is a good idea.10Besides this, barley contains soluble fiber ß-glucan, that can lower your LDL cholesterol levels without impacting levels of the good HDL cholesterol in your system. Some researchers have suggested that for every gram of water soluble fiber you consume your blood LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol drop by 0.029 mmol/L and 0.028 mmol/L.11 2. Skin Care Barley water helps flush out toxins and hydrates your body, both of which are great for your skin. What’s more, the selenium in the grain helps keep your skin looking youthful. The essential mineral is needed for skin to retain its elasticity and its antioxidant properties are useful to fight signs of aging like wrinkles that happen due to free radical damage. 3. Gallstones A high calorie lower fiber diet rich in refined carbs increases your risk of developing gallstones. Barley fiber has been found to help reduce the frequency of occurrence of gallstones in animal studies. Barley water too contains this insoluble fiber that can work toward cutting the risk of gallstones 4. Kidney Stones Consuming a balanced diet with plenty of fiber, cutting back on animal protein intake, reducing consumption of oxalate-rich foods like celery, beets, rhubarb, almonds, peanuts, soy products, and chocolate, can help reduce the risk of kidney stones. Just as important is staying hydrated to prevent the urine from becoming too concentrated and forming stones.15 Barley water is one of the fluids that is used as part of preventive care for kidney stones, to produce urine of the right concentration. 5. Type 2 Diabetes Barley has therapeutic benefits for those with type 2 diabetes, as some animal studies have found. Test animals with diabetes who were given barley saw their blood glucose concentration go down, indicating a potential benefit of barley consumption. There are also anecdotal accounts of people who have used barley water to a similar end. Research also suggests that the beta glucans in the grain are an important soluble fiber that can help slow down glucose absorption by the body after you eat a meal. This is important for those with diabetes as it slows the increase of insulin and glucose levels after meals. Dietary intake of beta glucans has been found to cut risk factors like hypertension, lipid levels, and blood glucose levels. and For need more info about us then subscribe us also contact via below this link: JOIN WITH US: ✔✔✔ Subscribe Us : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqpNM77VWbFtQ6EbO5L_KRg ✔✔✔Fb Page : https://www.facebook.com/weightlosstips10/ ✔✔✔ Follow Us: https://plus.google.com/b/107478505462701845493/107478505462701845493
