A new study released Thursday is raising questions about the effectiveness of medicines commonly prescribed to prevent migraines in children and teens. The study reviewed 328 patients and found no significant differences between the drugs amitriptyline (Elavil), topiramate (Topamax) and a placebo sugar pill in being effective at preventing the number of days the participants experienced migraines or migraine-related disability. The study also found that the patients who took the prescription drugs also had much higher rates of side effects, such as fatigue, dry mouth, mood changes, and tingling in the hands, arms, legs or feet. http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2016/10/27/Study-questions-use-of-migraine-meds-in-kids-teens/6281477599958/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Sure, most guys (and even some gals) think that having an erection that long doesn't sound all that terrible, even if it is inconvenient. Cyanopsia It's worth noting that Viagra doesn't carry the risk of priapism. It does, however, carry other strange side effects, most notably cyanopsia (aka, blue-tinted vision). 8 .Orgasms While Yawning Some people have difficulty experiencing orgasm, but a small percentage of individuals taking the anti-depressant Clomipramine have the exact opposite problem. In fact, users found that whenever they yawned, they would achieve orgasm. 7 Brain Zaps One of the strangest and most disturbing side effects of anti-depressant withdrawal is known as "brain zaps," which are pretty much exactly what they sound like — the feeling of an electrical shock running through your head. 6. Black Hairy Tongue It's pretty disturbing for your tongue to become black and fuzzy. Also, having a constant metallic taste in your mouth and bad breath isn't exactly pleasant. A prescription medication doesn't even cause this condition, but an over the counter upset stomach treatment does — Pepto Bismol. Pepto can also make your feces black, so you can have both ends of your digestive system look equally disturbing — all thanks to one fun treatment. 5. Phototoxicity If the thought of having your flesh burn off as soon as you walk in the light disturbs you, then you should probably stay away from Levaquin and other fluoroquinolone anti-depressants, which boasts phototoxicity as one of its side effects. This means walking around outside can result in rapid and extreme sunburns, complete with blisters. 4. Extreme Hand-Foot Syndrome Fingerprints are becoming more and more important in our digital world as we increasingly use them to verify our identity on phones, and banks, hospitals, and airports. Unfortunately, some cancer drugs (most notably Capecitabine) have the side effect of hand-foot syndrome, which can result in vanishing fingerprints. 3. Weird Dream The medication Chantix (varencline), prescribed to help people stop smoking, is known to cause dreams that are super strange and vivid. Even stranger? People taking the prescription sleep aid Ambien (zolpidem) have been known to get up at night, go for a drive, talk on the phone, or even have sex — and not remember anything in the morning. 2. Urine Discoloration It's not unusual to notice a change in urine color. But can you imagine seeing your urine turn green or blue? This odd symptom can be a side effect of taking the antidepressant Elavil (amitriptyline) or the common pain reliever Indocin (indomethacin). 1. Compulsive Behavior Unfortunately, drugs like Mirapex and Requip can cause compulsive behaviors that can make a light drinker an alcoholic, an occasional gambler an addict, an average person a shopaholic or a sex addict. Here is my recent blog entry on the subject: http://claudiaboleyn.tumblr.com/post/124334072291/an-apology-and-an-explanation I am so so sorry to all those that were concerned about me. This is the gist of what happened. I would ask you to please be kind in the comments section because I admit that right now I am in a rather delicate place. However, I wanted to be honest and open with you. I thought this was something I needed to share. Please please please do not do what I did. It is an awful mistake and as I describe in the video it is incredibly unpleasant in a lot of ways. Please learn from my silly mistakes. If you are feeling suicidal then know that there is help available. Ring the hospital or google a local helpline. I am going to be okay, but things could have gone very differently and I am just lucky that I caused no lasting damage to myself. Migraine is treated by many ways of treatment. It can be modified with medication or sometimes it requires other types of medication or pharmacological medication. Most of the medication, is one type of medication is to decrease the headache usually when somebody is getting headache and the other medicine are to prevent the next episodes of medication. So immediate medications most commonly used are paracetamol, ibuprofen or naproxen. These medicines are used based on the severity of the headache. If somebody is having only mild headache, they can take rest and most of the times it will disappear, but if they are not able to take rest, they can take simple pain killer medicine like paracetamol. If it is a moderate severity, they need to take little severe drugs like ibuprofen or naproxen. If it is a little severe, it requires other types of medication like rizatriptan or sumatriptan. Rarely we will use these medicines in children and most of the times these immediate severity medicines will decrease the severity of headache and with rest and sleep also. So there ways of medication are to decrease the frequency of the headache episodes, there are various types of medications available, most commonly used medicines in children are flunarizine, propranolol, topiramate and sodium valproate and sometimes rarely amitriptyline. So these medicines are useful to reduce the frequency of attacks like somebody is getting a very frequent attacks like 2 to 3 times per month and they are causing problems in the school performance, then you will consider these types of medication. They hold be given for minimum 3 to 6 months to know whether the effects are working or not. So these medicines can be selected based on the patients profile, if somebody is overweight, you can select the medicines like topiramate so that it will decrease the weight gain and if somebody is very less weight then they can consider flunarizine. So it will improve the weight gain and if somebody has a behavioural problem and a lot of tension, then they can consider amitryptylline, it will improve the mood and the behaviour also. So based on the patients profile, you can consider which medicine can be used so these medicines are useful to decrease the frequency and also improve the child’s performance in school and also playing.

Mirtazapine is not a serotonin or norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor but may increase serotonin and norepinephrine by other mechanisms of action. Side Effects: Constipation, dry mouth, weight gain, increase appetite, somnolence, sedation, sleepiness, weakness, distrurbance in thinking, peripheral edema, increased blood pressure. Hello Friends! Do you have following questions or queries in your mind: What are antidepressants or anti depression pills? How to treat depression? What are SSRIs, TCAs or newer antidepressants? How do they work? What are the side effects of antidepressants? Can antidepressants cause weight gain or sexual problem? Are antidepressant medications addictive? are you planning to take antidepressants? How long does one need to take antidepressants? What are natural or herbal antidepressants? What is St. Johns Wort or Hypericum perforatum? Then this is the right place for you to gather the right information from the right person! Antidepressants are pharmaceutical drugs which are used to treat depression (Major Depressive Disorder), anxiety disorders ( Panic disorder, Generalised anxiety disorder, Social anxiety disorder GAD & SAD), and some personality disorders (EUPD). They act on Serotonin (5-HT), a neurotransmitter in our brain and increase its availability. They can also act on Norepinephrine or occasionally Dopamine but mainly its Serotonin. The older generation antidepressants were called Tricyclic antidepressants or TCAs. Some common examples are Amitriptyline (Elavil, Endep), Clomipramine (Anafranil) or Dosulepin (Prothiaden). However, they had multiple side effects and frequently affected the heart. They were cardiotoxic especially in overdose hence not used frequently nowadays. The newer generation antidepressants are called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor or SSRIs. Some common examples are Fluoxetine (Prozac), Citalopram (Celexa, Cipramil), Paroxetine (Paxil, Seroxat), Fluvoxamine (Luvox, Faverin) and Sertraline (Zoloft, Lustral). They are well tolerated and are not lethal in overdose. Therefore, they are the first line of drug treatment of depression. SSRIs are the first choice of antidepressant drugs for teenagers or adolescents, especially fluoxetine. Lately, there has been some recent addition which includes Venlafaxine (Effexor), Agomelatine (Valdoxan), Duloxetine (Cymbalta), Bupropion (Wellbutrin) and Mirtazapine (Remeron). As they act on receptors in our brain, the onset of action may take a minimum of two weeks or sometimes, four weeks in older people. Their side effects are mild and usually transient. rarely, they can have some serious outcome mainly due to drug interaction. Common side effects of antidepressants include tummy upset like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, feeling of sickness or loose stools. They can initially worsen sleep or anxiety. Some can lead to nightmares or increased sweating due to increased noradrenaline. They can also have sexual side effects for instance decrease libido or delay ejaculation, usually at higher doses. Occasionally, they can increase suicidal ideation but its mainly seen in adolescents. They are overall protective in suicide in young, adults and older people. When taken for a long time, antidepressants can affect metabolism leading to weight gain or weight loss depending on the particular drug. How to wean off antidepressant drugs? Once taken for a long time, your body may develop some dependence and people can experience some withdrawal symptoms while stopping antidepressants. However, they are not addictive and should be stopped gradually. The recommended duration of treatment is a minimum of six months after symptoms have been adequately treated for depression and one year in case of anxiety disorders. If there have been two or more episodes of depression, treatment should continue for two years. There are alternatives which include psychotherapy and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). For mild to moderate depression, talking therapy or Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is the first choice. ECT is used in treatment-resistant depression or suicidal patients. recently, St. John's wart has become popular as a herbal treatment of depression and is widely available. However, it contains a lot of active ingredients with unknown function and can lead to interaction with other drugs. Therefore, it's wise to consult your doctor. Take care and Get well soon! Help is available, just look for it! Regards - Dr Subodh MD MRCPsych

If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction call (888) 820 5366 Each day in our nation, 129 people die from drug overdoses. A little over 20% of these are from heroin use and another 40% are from prescription painkillers, many of which are opiate-derived. Every year, as reported by the Centers fro Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 47,055 deaths are reported as “drug-induced”. Hundreds of thousands more are treated by paramedics or are hospitalized every year from “non-fatal” drug overdoses, many of which result in permanent brain damage or partial paralysis. The cost of substance abuse is so steep, from death and extreme physical harm to heartbroken families and damaged relationships, not to mention the expense of medical care. Yet, addiction still has control over the lives of millions of Americans today. During an overdose, the body begins to shut down due to a lack of oxygen, which is caused by decreased respiration – this can be a result of the sedative effects of the drug or from a blocked airway. “As the oxygenation level drops in their body, their heart will start to slow down, and all their systems will start to shut down one by one,” explains Gina, a member of the nursing staff at Best Drug Rehabilitation. “You’re going to have brain damage, then the cardiac starts, and that’s when a person can die.” Overdoses don’t always result in death, but it is a very urgent matter of getting medical attention as soon as possible, and even then there might not be anything that can be done. “They can die with overdose, let’s not confuse that fact,” Gina continues. “But they also can be brought back. There are substances like Narcan, it can be reversed, but it is also time sensitive. Not everybody is going to die, but every time they do overdose, they are causing body damage that sometimes is not replaceable or sometimes is going to take a long time to heal.” “I remember sticking the needle in my arm, and that was it,” says Ben M., a patient at BDR. “I don’t even remember pushing the drugs into my arm, I just remember waking up with people slapping and screaming at me”. Before coming to our recovery center, Ben had travelled a very hard road. He had become homeless due to his heroin addiction. His thought processes had become so warped by his addiction that it didn’t bother him that he had come so close to dying so many times, including wrecking a car into a tree at 120 mph. “They told me right there at the hospital ‘You know, since you’re homeless, this is the fastest recovery time that you can get.’” Ben recalls. “‘If you just get it amputated, you won’t have to deal with the infection or anything like that.’ And so that’s what I went with. Cause all I really cared about at the time was getting high. I didn’t even care that I lost my leg.” When I woke up, I had no clue what had happened - no recollection whatsoever,” admits Kathryn M., another patient at Best Drug Rehabilitation. “I thought I had gotten into a car accident or something. You never think it’s going to happen to you, but it happened to me.” She was lucky enough to be found after her overdose with enough time to save her life, but it was very close. “I vomited and it went into my lungs. My dad found me about five hours later. They immediately rushed me to the emergency room, when I got there, they put me on a drip of Narcan. They intubated me, and they put me in a coma from September 23rd till October 16th.” Without her father’s intervention, Kathryn would not have survived much longer, and would not have made it to our recovery center – she would have ended up as just another statistic. Today, thankfully, she and Ben both have a second chance - an opportunity to build a more positive lifestyle and a better future for themselves and their loved ones. Adverse Effects (Short Film on Drugs) Short Movie on Drugs, addiction, and police brutality -- "Adverse Effects" : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IizUScay98g Sam tries to kick an addiction to prescription pills, but discovers that there are more obstacles to overcome than just quitting drugs. Her abusive boyfriend and a run in with the law ensure that sobriety is an arduous end. SPOILER ALERT BELOW: For dozens of years, the war on drugs has led to raids on hundreds of innocent people’s homes, in which pets are commonly killed, children and babies have been shot, and not to mention the post-traumatic stress that these families have had to endure after these horrifying incidents. In some cases, it has been admitted that these raids were simply to fulfill a drug bust quota. The script was written in a way to show the irony of how these raids focus on catching “criminals” with marijuana, while drugs that are actually harmful are being used right before their noses (over 100,000 deaths occur annually in the US from prescription pills according to the American Medical Association). I'm back!!!! Sorry everyone, I know it has been over a month since I've uploaded, my apologies, but I've been busy at work, spending time with my family and I've been using my free time to start writing my book on my experiences with self-harm, depression and suicide. I'm at 24,000 words so far and I aim to have it released by the end of next year. A few days ago it was World Suicide Prevention Day and, although I was too busy to make this video on that day, it inspired me to make this video about my experience with waking up from a life-threatening overdose. This wasn't a cry for help, this wasn't me being hopeful or taking a few painkillers and hoping for the best, this was me taking a proper and serious overdose on my medication (at the time) and attempting to end my life. Fortunately I woke up, at the time I wish I didn't, and some 9 years later I'm telling my story and describing what it feel like. It doesn't feel good in anyway; mentally, emotionally or psychically. My aim with this video, as with most of them, is to make those who are feeling suicidal and desire to OD think twice about doing it. The body is very special and has some incredible survival mechanisms, and more importantly, you can turn your life around. If I can,you definitely can. www.dailyrx.com www.dailyrxnews.com A new study finds that many young patients with conditions like ADD or anxiety are prescribed antipsychotic drugs not specifically-approved to treat these conditions. Psychosis is a mental disorder characterized by a disconnection from reality. Researchers say their study found more prescriptions for anti-psychotic drugs were written for teenage and young adult patients. And many of these prescriptions were not written by psychiatrists. What's more.. few teens received psychiatric help in the form of counseling or other mental health services. Researchers pointed-out the dangers of anti-psychotic drugs for young patients including brain changes, weight gain or high fat levels.

Looking for hope and help? Call (888) 643-9041 http://bit.ly/VisitDuffys For nearly 200 years, pharmaceutical companies have been searching for a non-addictive painkiller derived from the opium poppy. With the rise of opium abuse at the turn of the 19th Century, a German pharmacist extracted morphine from opium as a non-addictive analgesic and cure for opium abuse. But when morphine was also found to be extremely addictive in the mid-1800's, Bayer, in their quest to develop a less addictive alternative to morphine created heroin. What they didn't realize was that heroin was much more potent and addictive than morphine. When heroin was pulled from the market in the early 1900's, a group of German scientists developed Oxycodone, a semi-synthetic opioid derived from the poppy plant that they hoped would be less addictive and would form the basis of many painkillers. For years, pharmaceutical companies developed drugs, such as Percodan and Percocet, that mixed a smaller dosage of Oxycodone with larger doses of milder painkillers like aspirin or acetaminophen, but in 1996, Purdue Pharma released OxyContin. Although this drug contained a much higher concentration of Oxycodone than previous painkillers, the FDA approved it because the pill was designed to slowly release the drug over an extended period of time. Unfortunately, users soon found a way to break the slow release feature by crushing the pill and snorting or injecting it to obtain a high. By 2010, OxyContin was the second most abused prescription drug in the nation, causing Purdue Pharma to reformulate OxyContin to make it crush and injection-resistant. While this new version has caused deliberate misuse of Oxycontin to decrease, there is a strong correlation to the current rise in Heroin abuse. Many believe that former Oxycontin abusers have abandoned the abuse-resistant pill for a cheaper, easier fix from Heroin. Despite the attempts to make OxyContin safer, it remains a potentially addictive drug, even for people who are using it legitimately. Why is this? Oxycodone numbs pain by mimicking your body's natural endorphins. The longer you take opioids, the less endorphins your body produces naturally. This is why you feel depressed when you quit using. You end up needing more pills just to feel normal. Although Oxycodone creates a feeling of drowsiness, relief from pain, relaxation, sedation, lowered inhibitions, and euphoria, users may experience negative side effects. You don't have to be a pill junkie to be affected by OxyContin. Maybe you've been really careful with your prescribed dosage, but you—or your family and friends have noticed that you've been acting really different lately. It's not like you're going far beyond your dosage, but moodiness, fatigue, and anxiety may point to opioid dependence. And opioid dependence includes the risk of overdose. Because you get such a high concentration of opioids, it is much easier to overdose on OxyContin than other painkillers. When you overdose, Oxycontin slows down your central nervous system, forcing your heart rate and breathing to slow, which can induce a state of coma or death. And if you mix alcohol with Oxycontin, you increase the risk of overdose exponentially. Oxycontin abuse and addiction does not disappear on its own. Because withdrawing from an opioid like Oxycontin is extremely painful, it is not recommended that you detox on your own. If you or a loved one is struggling with Oxycontin use, seek help today.

Focal Pain Syndrome (CPS). What is focal agony disorder?. Harm to the focal sensory system (CNS) can cause a neurological issue called focal torment disorder (CPS). The CNS incorporates the cerebrum, brainstem, and spinal string. A few different conditions can cause it like: *a stroke. *brain injury. *tumors. *epilepsy. Individuals with CPS commonly feel distinctive sorts of torment sensations, for example, *aching. *burning. *sharp torments. *numbness. The side effects fluctuate generally among people. It can begin quickly after an injury or other condition, or it might take months or years to create. No cure for CPS is accessible. Torment pharmaceuticals, antidepressants, and different sorts of drugs can for the most part help give some alleviation. The condition can drastically influence personal satisfaction. What are the side effects of focal torment disorder?. The fundamental side effect of CPS is torment. The agony changes enormously among people. It can be any of the accompanying: *constant. *intermittent. *limited to a particular body part. *widespread all through the body. Individuals for the most part depict the agony as any of the accompanying: *burning. *aching. *prickling or shivering, which is here and there called "sticks and needles". *stabbing. *itching that turns agonizing. *freezing. *shocking. *tearing. The torment is commonly direct to extreme. The agony may even be depicted as anguishing by a few people. In extreme cases, individuals with CPS may have torment notwithstanding when touched daintily by garments, covers, or a solid breeze. An assortment of components may exacerbate the torment. These variables incorporate the accompanying: *touch. *stress. *anger. *other compelling feelings. *movement, for example, work out. *reflexive, automatic developments, such as wheezing or yawning. *loud clamors. *bright lights. *temperature changes, particularly icy temperatures. *sun presentation. *rain. *wind. *barometric weight changes. *altitude changes. As a rule, CPS remains a long lasting condition. What causes focal torment disorder?. CPS alludes to torment that originates from the cerebrum and not from the fringe nerves, which are outside of the mind and spinal line. Consequently, it contrasts from most other agony conditions. Torment is generally a defensive reaction to a destructive jolt, for example, touching a hot stove. No hurtful jolt causes the agony that happens in CPS. Rather, damage to the cerebrum makes the impression of agony. This damage as a rule happens in the thalamus, a structure inside the mind that procedures tactile signs to different parts of the cerebrum. The most well-known conditions that can prompt CPS include: *brain discharge. *a stroke. *multiple sclerosis. *brain tumors. *an aneurysm. *a spinal line damage. *a horrendous mind damage. *epilepsy. *Parkinson's infection. *surgical methods that include the mind or spine. The Central Pain Syndrome Foundation evaluates that about 3 million individuals in the United States have CPS. How is focal agony disorder analyzed?. CPS can be hard to analyze. The agony might be broad and may appear to be irrelevant to any damage or injury. No single test is accessible to empower your specialist to analyze CPS. Your specialist will survey your indications, play out a physical exam, and get some information about your therapeutic history. It's critical to illuminate your specialist about any conditions or wounds you have now or may have had before, and any meds you're taking. CPS doesn't create without anyone else's input. It just happens following damage to the CNS. How is focal torment disorder treated?. CPS is hard to treat. Torment meds, for example, morphine, are now and again utilized however aren't generally effective. A few people can deal with their torment with antiepileptic or energizer pharmaceuticals, for example, *amitriptyline (Elavil). *duloxetine (Cymbalta). *gabapentin (Neurontin). *pregabalin (Lyrica). *carbamazepine (Tegretol). *topiramate (Topamax). Extra prescriptions that may help include: *transdermal creams and fixes. *medical maryjane. *muscle relaxants. I was prescribed Seroquel for Anxiety as well as a possible mood disorder. I had HORRIBLE side effects from Seroquel. I gained over 10 pounds in a week, felt like I had the flu constantly, had horrible headaches, felt like my blood sugar was out of whack, super sleepy but couldn't sleep still, joint pain and swelling, and numbness with tingling in my feet. Then, I woke up to find my face swollen along with 3+ pitting edema in both legs. The Doctor had me stop the Seroquel instantly without weaning down and didn't have me on anything for 3.5 weeks. I felt crazier than I have ever felt in my entire life. I keep on fighting and I know that any of you going through any sort of mental illness can do so too!
