DIY cardboard furniture with free IKEA-style instructions

09:18
Industrial designer Adrian Candela was overwhelmed by the packing waste stacked in his living room after a recent move and being in need of a nightstand and not wanting to spend any more money, he turned the old boxes into new furniture. His Nit (Catalan for "night") nightstand is now 8 months old (it was a Christmas gift for his girlfriend) and it is still standing (it's even had water spilt on it). Inspired by how easy the process was to upcycle his corrugated fiberboard, Candela created a simple step-by-step assembly guide that he has made available for free online so that others too could turn their furniture waste into side tables. Modern Tech - SAMD - French mobile rigid walls expandable shelter

03:22
SAMD represents the new generation of mobile air-conditioned and wired shelters offering both rigid walls and large internal space once quickly deployed from a reasonably compact mobile package. This represents an important innovation as previous generations of air transportable mobile rigid walls shelters used for many decades for example in the military did not provide anywhere as much space from same form factor and/or required much longer time to assemble thus putting higher demands on logistics and manpower to provide same accommodation space in a timely manner.
Extreme transformer home in Hong Kong: Gary Chang's 24 rooms in 1

10:17
Gary Chang has lived in the same 32 square meters (344 square feet) for nearly his entire life. Nearly 40 years ago, he moved into the tiny apartment with not only his parents and 3 younger sisters, but they rented a room to a tenant. During his childhood the space was divided into several small rooms- kitchen, bathrooms and 3 bedrooms (Chang slept on the couch). In 1988 when his family moved out (into something bigger), Chang bought the place from the landlord for $45,000 and began his experiments in small space design. Today, at first glance, the small space appears a fairly average open studio, but with pulls on handles, walls slide across steel tracks, Chang can have a "maximum kitchen", a guest bedroom, a library, dining room, laundry-room and even a spa: one walls slides to reveal an extra-large Duravit bathtub. His home is tricked out with a wall-sized movie screen, a shower with color therapy and massage that doubles as a steam room, but Chang argues that the moving walls are fairly low-tech. And while he can control his appliances with his smartphone he usually prefers the manual option. Chang is now an architect (Edge Design) with a focus on micro-apartments. *Cameraman Johnny Sanphillippo also films for the site Strong Towns: http://www.strongtowns.org/ Gary Chang's Edge Design: http://www.edgedesign.com.hk Original story: http://faircompanies.com/videos/view/extreme-transformer-in-hong-kong-gary-changs-24-rooms-in-1/

Mechanical light cottage morphs sliding skin with use/seasons

When his mother began talking about putting a prefab in her backyard, Caspar Schols- a physicist by training- was working at a tech firm, but had always loved architecture and asked if he could design her something special. Wanting to create a home that you could change as easily as you change your clothes, Schols built the home in a series of shells on a wooden platform. The outer layer is insulated wood panels that slide open to reveal a glass greenhouse pavilion for hanging out or entertaining on colder days. The glass shell can also be rolled back to create an open-air dining, lounging or performance space. With more rolling, one can create other configurations, like the dinner party mode (wood in the middle, glass on the outside to create a covered space to fit a long table and 30 guests). With no architecture training (at the time), Schols spent 8 months building the structure himself (with occasional help from family and friends). He set each shell on 8 small wheels which fit into tracks in a wooden platform. Into the floor he built-in pop-up beds and cabinets to hide outlets and he even had plans for a pop-out bathtub. Though after his mother and guests slept on the pop-up beds a few times they deemed them uncomfortable and he replaced them with furniture from the neighbor (who just happens to be designer Piet Hein Eek). 6 rooms into 1: morphing apartment packs 1100 sq ft into 420

19:54
In 2010, we met Graham Hill- the founder of treehugger.com and a serial entrepreneur. He had just bought two tiny apartments in a century-old tenement building in Soho and he had plans to turn them into laboratories, and showcases, for tiny living. He'd spent most of the past year living in tiny spaces- "a tiny trailer, a tent, and then a boat" and he was convinced others would love it as much if small spaces could be designed right. He wanted a tiny space that didn't sacrifice function, but instead that would expand to provide a wish list including dinner parties for 12, accommodations for 2 overnight guests, a home office and a home theater with digital projector. Not wanting to limit himself to local architects, he crowdsourced the design as a competition and received 300 entries from all over the world. Two Romanian architecture students won with their design "One Size Fits All". Completed in 2012, his LifeEdited apartment doesn't resemble the cramped space we saw in 2010. Today the 420-square-foot space can be expanded to include the functionality of 1,100 square feet: walls, drawers and beds move and unfold to create 6 rooms: living room, dining room, office, guest office, master bedroom and guest bedroom. If you include the kitchen and the bathroom which morphs into a phone booth or meditation room, the apartment includes 10 total rooms. INSAS 1B 5.56 mm ASSAULT RIFLE : INDIA

04:26
Caliber: 5.56x45 mm NATO Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt Overall length: 945 mm with fixed butt; 960 / 750 mm with folding butt Barrel length: 464 mm Weight: 3.2 kg empty Rate of fire: 650 rounds per minute Magazine capacity: 20 or 30 rounds Since late 1950s, Indian armed forces were equipped with 7.62mm NATO L1A1 self-loading rifles, which were licensed copies of the famous Belgian FN FAL rifle. As the 7.62mm self-loading rifles started to become obsolete by the 1980s, India began to develop the INSAS (Indian National Small Arms System), which incorporated features from several popular foreign designs. The INSAS system was originally planned to have three components - a standard rifle, a carbine, and a squad automatic rifle (LMG), all chambered for 5.56 x 45 NATO ammunition. In 1997 the rifle and LMG were ready for mass production, and in 1998 the first units were observed on an Independence Day parade armed with INSAS rifles. The mass introduction of the INSAS rifle was initially delayed by the lack of the domestically made 5.56 mm ammunition and India accordingly bought significant stocks of ammunition from the Israeli IMI company. At the present time at least 300,000 INSAS rifles are in service with the Indian army; some of these have seen action in Indo-Pakistani conflict. The INSAS rifles are made by the Ishapore Rifle Factory. The INSAS rifle is broadly based on the famous Kalashnikov AK-47 action, but with many modifications. The basic gas-operated action with long stroke gas piston and a rotating bolt, as well as the stamped steel receiver, are generally the same as in modern Kalashnikov rifles. However, the gas system is fitted with a manual gas regulator, similar in design to that found on FN FAL rifles, as well as a gas cutoff. The charging handle has been moved from the bolt carrier to the left side of the forearm; it is similar in position and design to German HK G3 rifle. The selector / safety switch is located at the left side of the receiver, above the pistol grip, and allows for single shots and three round bursts. The rifle is fitted with a side-folding carrying handle, and either a solid or side-folding metal buttstock. Furniture can be made from wood or polymer. Standard magazines are made from semi-translucent polymer and contain 20 rounds. Longer 30-round magazines of similar design are available for the INSAS LMG but can also be used in the rifle. The sights consist of a hooded front, mounted on top of the gas block, and a diopter rear, mounted on the receiver cover. The flash hider is shaped to accept NATO-standard rifle grenades. INSAS rifles can be fitted with AKM-style multipurpose knife-bayonets.

Space saving furniture that transforms 1 room into 2 or 3

08:04
Resource Furniture sells bookshelves, couches and desks- and a combination of the above- that are so highly engineered that they gracefully transform into beds. Gone is the amusing awkwardness of Murphy Beds, this more modern transforming furniture (much of it designed and made in Italy y Clei) is high style and almost, well, magical. Hydraulics make the transition from bookshelf or couch to bed a smooth and effortless thing to marvel. Still image of Omar Khadr STORYLINE: A Canadian detainee accused of killing a United States Special Forces medic told a military judge on Thursday that he was satisfied with his defence team as his pre-trial hearing began at Guantanamo Bay. Omar Khadr, who was dressed in a white uniform reportedly reserved for the most compliant prisoners, sat unshackled with his legs crossed at the defence table beside his Pentagon-appointed attorney and two civilian defence lawyers. "Yes, sir," said Khadr, who wore a close-cropped beard, when the judge asked if he wanted his current attorneys. The tribunal system set up by the Bush administration following the September 11 attacks, has yet to bring any of the men held at the US Navy base in southeast Cuba to trial. One detainee, an Australian, was convicted in March in a pretrial plea bargain. The case against Omar Khadr, a Canadian who was 15 when he was captured in 2002, presents a new hurdle for the military as it attempts to try him on charges including murder, conspiracy and spying. Even before Khadr, who is now 21, can enter a plea the judge must resolve the issue of whether he can even legally stand trial here. In June, a military judge dismissed charges against Khadr because, according to legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush last year, only "unlawful enemy combatants" can be tried by the military commissions. Khadr was previously identified by a military panel as an enemy combatant, without the critical "unlawful" designation. A hastily appointed military appeals court said this summer that the judge can decide whether to add the "unlawful" to Khadr's status, and thus subject him to a commission trial. In order to gain that designation, law professor David Scheffer of Northwestern University said prosecutors ought to present evidence that Khadr violated laws of war and does not qualify for prisoner-of-war status under the Geneva Conventions. "That should be a very high bar to jump for the prosecutor if this proceeding is to be regarded as one following international standards or due process," said Scheffer, a former ambassador-at-large for war crimes issues under the Clinton administration. Defence lawyers predict other bumps in the road in a system that has never been tested and that critics say was hastily slapped together after the Supreme Court last year declared the previous system unconstitutional. The judge, Army Colonel Peter Brownback, refused to say under questioning from the lead defence attorney, Navy lieutenant Commander William Kuebler, whether he believed the system complied with US and international law. "My answer is move on," Brownback said after Kuebler repeated the question. The military has said it plans to prosecute as many as 80 of the 320 men held at Guantanamo. What is DRAWING BOARD? What does DRAWING BOARD mean? DRAWING BOARD meaning & explanation

What is DRAWING BOARD? What does DRAWING BOARD mean? DRAWING BOARD meaning - DRAWING BOARD definition - DRAWING BOARD explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ A drawing board (also drawing table, drafting table or architect's table) is, in its antique form, a kind of multipurpose desk which can be used for any kind of drawing, writing or impromptu sketching on a large sheet of paper or for reading a large format book or other oversized document or for drafting precise technical illustrations (such as engineering drawings or architectural drawings). The drawing table used to be a frequent companion to a pedestal desk in a gentleman's study or private library, during the pre-industrial and early industrial era. During the Industrial Revolution draftsmanship gradually became a specialized trade and drawing tables slowly moved out of the libraries and offices of most gentlemen. They became more utilitarian and were built of steel and plastic instead of fine woods and brass. More recently, engineers and draftsmen use the drawing board for making and modifying drawings on paper with ink or pencil. Different drawing instruments (set square, protractor, etc.) are used on it to draw parallel, perpendicular or oblique lines. There are instruments for drawing circles, arcs, other curves and symbols too (compass, French curve, stencil, etc.). However, with the gradual introduction of computer aided drafting and design (CADD or CAD) in the last decades of the 20th century and the first of the 21st century, the drawing board is becoming less common. A drawing table is also sometimes called a mechanical desk because, for several centuries, most mechanical desks were drawing tables. Unlike the gadgety mechanical desks of the second part of the 18th century, however, the mechanical parts of drawing tables were usually limited to notches, ratchets, and perhaps a few simple gears, or levers or cogs to elevate and incline the working surface. Very often a drawing table could look like a writing table or even a pedestal desk when the working surface was set at the horizontal and the height adjusted to 29 inches, in order to use it as a "normal" desk. The only giveaway was usually a lip on one of the sides of the desktop. This lip or edge stopped paper or books from sliding when the surface was given an angle. It was also sometimes used to hold writing implements. When the working surface was extended at its full height, a drawing table could be used as a standing desk. Many reproductions have been made and are still being produced of drawing tables, copying the period styles they were originally made in during the 18th and 19th centuries. The expression "back to the drawing board" is used when a plan or course of action needs to be changed, often drastically; usually due to a very unsuccessful result; e.g., "The battle plan, the result of months of conferences, failed because the enemy retreated too far back. It was back to the drawing board for the army captains." The phrase was coined in the caption to a Peter Arno cartoon of The New Yorker of March 1, 1941 (cartoon) Despite the prevalence of computer aided drafting, many older architects and even some structural designers still rely on paper and pencil graphics produced on a drafting table. Modern drafting tables typically rely on a steel frame. Steel provides as much strength as the old oak drafting table frames and much easier portability. Typically the drafting board surface is a thick sheet of compressed fibreboard with sheets of Formica laminated to all its surfaces. The drafting board surface is usually secured to the frame by screws which can easily be removed for drafting table transportation.....

Zac Efron Workout and Diet Plan (BAYWATCH!!)

12:01
Build ripped muscle like Zac with this program… http://athleanx.com/x/built-like-zac-year-round Zac Efron’s workout and diet plan are making waves this Summer because of his incredible physique transformation preparing for Baywatch. Along side the Rock, Zac holds his own, having carved out a chiseled body by focusing on 7 key elements of his training and nutrition. Recently, Men’s Fitness magazine published a story about the gains Efron made to get ready for his Summer comedy role. In this video, I am breaking down the most important aspects of his diet plan and workouts to help you to start getting better results from your workouts heading into Summer. I’m also going to take a look back at a former “most wanted” celebrity body (that of Taylor Lautner) to see what went wrong and prevented his gains from being permanent. First and foremost, it is worth noting that neither Zac Efron or Taylor Lautner are heavyweights. Both stand just 5 foot 10 inches tall and weigh no more than 170 pounds. To make his transformation for Baywatch, Efron gained just 10 pounds of lean muscle. The thing is, when you minimize your body fat levels and maximize the amount of muscle your body can naturally carry…you look much bigger than you are. Both of these guys have mastered this. That said, you can’t expect to look better without being willing to put in some hard work along the way. Zac did just this by adopting more heavy weight training into his workout routine. He stated that he never had lifted very heavy or explosive before preparing for this film. A lot of people actually find themselves in a similar position either because they are uncomfortable lifting heavy or just don’t have the base strength to be able to do it. By increasing his strength levels on the basic compound lifts, Efron was able to start adding to his muscle density and thickness. Next he followed a push, pull, legs training split. This workout sequence allows you to train your body more athletically since you train movements instead of individual muscles. The back and biceps are responsible for all lifts in which you pull the weight towards you or pull your body towards a fixed bar. It’s impossible to isolate their actions so it helps to train them together to allow you more recovery time between workouts. Daily ab training is another key to having the resting tone needed to showcase your abs year round (provided your diet and nutrition are in check). Zac Efron’s diet is also covered here as well. By including a cheat day once in awhile, he is able to maintain his sanity and consistency required to keep his body fat levels low year round. Putin Trump's New Security Strategy is Definitely Offensive YouTube

06:31
Vladimir Putin visited the Peter the Great Military Academy of the Strategic Missile Forces, where he took part in an annual expanded meeting of the Defence Ministry Board. Prior to the meeting, the President toured the Academy’s training and laboratory building and the training and research centre, and examined the Academy’s comprehensive development plan. The Peter the Great Military Academy of Strategic Missile Forces is one of the largest military training institutions of the Russian Armed Forces. The Academy trains commanding officers and military engineers, and conducts research in the main areas related to the Strategic Missile Forces. President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Comrades officers, Before I begin, I want to congratulate the Armed Forces, primarily, the Strategic Missile Forces, on such a remarkable new facility. It is not just a modern [facility], but a facility that makes it possible to train personnel and develop the sector in the broadest sense of this word according to the latest and most advanced standards. This is extremely important, and I want to thank the Defence Ministry’s senior officials for this. I would like to start also by expressing my gratitude to the servicemen who took part in the anti-terrorist operation in Syria, and I want to thank the entire Armed Forces personnel. The Defence Minister will report on this in more detail. I will only say the main thing, which is that in fighting international terrorism, an absolutely global threat, our soldiers and officers acted bravely, professionally and, importantly, effectively, demonstrated the qualitatively new modern capabilities of the Armed Forces of Russia and made, without any doubt or exaggeration, a decisive contribution to defeating the most capable group of international terrorists. You are aware that, in fact, it was more than just a group. It was an entire terrorist army, which was well organised, united, trained and armed, which directly threatened our country, and, admittedly, the entire world. In cooperation with the Syrian troops, Russian forces have liberated practically the entire Syrian territory from the gangs of militants, saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, preserved Syria’s statehood and opened opportunities for political settlement of its domestic conflict. The actions of our army and navy can only be described as excellent. We will always remember the feat of our comrades-in-arms who perished defending Russia and our people. Our human, moral and ethical duty is to support their families. The state and their fellow servicemen will do everything for this purpose. Please honour their memory with a minute of silence. (Minute of silence.)

Russia S-400 Defence Deal : Working to get CAATSA waiver for India, say Senators

02:15
Russia S-400 Defence Deal : Working to get CAATSA waiver for India, say Senators At the request of US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, US lawmakers are working to get a waiver for India from the punitive Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions ACT or CAATSA, under which sanctions kick off on countries that purchase significant military equipment from Russia. Though the act targets Russia, it is having its unintended consequences on India, which is planning to buy five S-400 Triumf air defense systems for around $4.5 billion from Russia, that US officials say could be considered as a significant military purchase. Republican Senator Dan Sullivan, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on Thursday told a Washington audience that Mattis has written a letter in this regard to Senator John McCain, who chairs this powerful committee, to come up with a legislative waiver for India. On questions during the Annual Leadership Summit of the US India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF), Sullivan and Democratic Senator Mark Warner, who is vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, said there is a desire among lawmakers to find some way to manage India's past commitment to Russia and its defense relationships with that country. Sullivan said he spent a lot of time a day with his colleagues in the House and Senate explaining the importance of getting legislative language right on CAATSA and that realignment of any relationship does not happen overnight. "One of the biggest proponents of the importance of this relationship is Secretary Mattis. And said, I need this (In his letter to Senator McCain). This is important for our country. This is important for India. This is important for the strategic relationships," Sullivan said. "I'm hopeful that we're gonna get there on something that will advance our country's interests and advance India's interest and build that trust, Sullivan said as he called for concrete actions in Indo-US defense relationship. Responding to a similar question at a separate panel, Senator Warner, who is a strong proponent of CAATSA, said the lawmakers are looking into it and does not want India to suffer its unintended consequences. "There are some with the view that the bill does allow flexibility. House version gives a little more on the waiver side. We are trying to investigate on the Senate side, how we can allow this military partnership to grow but not undermine the principles around CAATSA," Warner said in response to a question. "It would be easier, I say to my Indian colleagues and friends, if this was simply parts of old aircraft that had been purchased 20 years before rather than a $4 billion plus air defense system. I do understand as well this was negotiated long before," he said, adding that this long relationship can't be broken overnight. Warner hoped that Indian colleagues will work with us so that we can continue the expansion of the professional relationship.

Langley's new paint booth a boon for Raptors, maintainers

02:03
Painting this giant Raptor (nat pop: b-roll of f22 takeoff) is no easy feat. "A big part of theF-22 is low-observable coating and that's what the people down here do -- maintain the low-observable coating on the F-22. That, in and of itself, makes the F-22 what it is -- the newest generation of stealth fighter" --Lt. Col. Dominick Martin, 1st Maintenance Squadron commander That's where Langley Air Force Base's new F-22 paint booth comes in. Designed for short-term repairs, the booth increases the maintainers' ability to conduct spray repairs, which means less down-time for the aircraft. Spraying is considered superior to brush or roll methods: the repairs last longer and are better quality. The $5.6 million paint booth re-circulates air, boasts an advanced alarm-warning system, features a high-expansion foam system to suppress fires and illuminates the bay with 240 foot candlelight versus 140 in Langley's older booths. Constructed in 14 months by Leebocor Services and overseen by the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the booth was delivered on time and on budget. It's certified LEED Gold for its environmentally friendly features. "The existing paint booths are 10-11 years old, and of course technology has changed during that time frame. But the paint booth we've installed from GFS is currently one of a handful in North America and the United States. It's very energy efficient: it takes one fifth energy consumption that the existing paint booths use." -- Donald Rhoades The F-22 maintenance squadron already plans to use it as their "go-to" booth for repairs. "We're really excited about the new facility and what it brings to the warfighter: increased capability, increased turn times for some of these repairs and additional space for our maintainers to do what we do best." -- Martin ...which is getting Raptors back in the air. From Langley Air Force Base, Va, Kerry Solan
An original maker: Paul Elkins, Pacific Northwest polymath

* Paul now has plans available: http://www.elkinsdiy.com/plans/ Paul Elkins has always loved to doodle; when he turned 8 years old his mother bought him his first serious sketch pad and he has since filled 25 more books with his designs. Elkins redesigned the world around him with his drawings of mini submarines, backpack helicopters, gas vapor carburetors and turbo-powered skateboards. Unlike the work of other dreamers, Elkins' designs didn't remain trapped on the page. Inspired by a tinkering father, and uncle, he has turned dozens of his whimsical ideas into a reality that defies description. There's his Mochet velocycle pedal car, 7-pound Coroplast foldable kayak, rapid deployment Coroplast shelter for Ice fishing or Emergencies, bicycle camper, to name just a few. Today, the Internet has made it easier to become a maker, but when Elkins first started tinkering he had to rely on magazines like Popular Mechanics and Mother Earth News and the occasional library book to find similar concepts to build upon. Now after decades as a self-taught inventor, Elkins has built dozens of bicycles (many inspired by the recumbent bicycle he first spotted as a ten year old at a car show), boats, micro-shelters (some hardly bigger than a person, but equipped with solar showers and running water) and those category-defying inventions like a human-powered wheel. Elkins has never made any money from his inventions and he calls himself a "conceptual artist" instead of designer or inventor due to his lack of interest in patents or selling products. With his retirement from Boeing approaching, he is considering releasing plans for some of his designs for sale to help fund his continued design work, but Elkins' primary motivation for doing what he does will never be economic. All the inventions shown in this film can be seen more in depth on Paul's blog ElkinsDIY. http://www.elkinsdiy.com Original story: http://faircompanies.com/videos/view/an-original-maker-paul-elkins-pacific-northwest-polymath/

Israel Aerospace signs Indian missile and UAV deals

04:19
Israel Aerospace signs Indian missile and UAV deals Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. has signed three strategic cooperation agreements with Indian companies for joint development and production in IAI's main spheres of activity in that country: missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), air defense systems, and chairs for military and civilian aircraft. The agreements were inked by IAI CEO Joseph Weiss, who is attending the Aero India exhibition in India that opened on 14th Feb in Bangalore. 11 Israeli companies are exhibiting developments and products in aeronautics systems in a pavilion set up by the Ministry of Defense International Defense Cooperation Authority (SIBAT). Ministry of Defense director general Maj. Gen. (res.) Udi Adam and SIBAT head Brigadier General (res.) Michel Ben-Baruch inaugurated the pavilion at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which is regarded as one of the world's most prestigious weapons exhibitions. One of the new agreements signed involves a partnership with the defense arm of India's Kalyani Strategic Systems group. Under the agreement, the two companies will establish a joint company for developing, producing, and marketing air defense systems, lightweight munitions, and special purpose munitions. IAI has vast knowledge and experience in air defense systems and special-purpose munitions, and sells such systems produced by its subsidiary in Yehud. These precision-guided munitions are launched at targets by UAVs after spending a long time circling above the target, at the command of their operators. IAI is involved in air defense systems in India through a partnership with Indian Ministry of Defense research and development agency in the Barak 8 defensive missile development program. IAI also signed an agreement with Indian company Dynamatic Technologies Limited (DTL) involving production, assembly, maintenance, and support in ventures relating to mini-UAVs. The new agreement includes the transfer of information pertaining to the assembly of IAI's mini-UAVs in India. DTL will be the chief contractor for defense groups in India. IAI signed another agreement with Taneja Aerospace & Aviation Limited (TAAL) involving joint production of chairs for military and civilian aircraft. Under this agreement, IAI's Golan Industries subsidiary will develop innovative aircraft seats. Production will take place in India in accordance with the made in India policy led by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This policy requires international companies to rearrange their business in the Indian market through partnerships with local companies. Weiss said, "These cooperative efforts will enable us to maintain our position in India and expand our business there in the future. He added, "We will move a substantial part of our UAV business to India. We will complete jointly with DTL in the upcoming tender to be published in India for a UAV deal. At the same time, we will also continue to invest in air defense and missiles in India in cooperation with the Kalyani group." Defense sources predicted that IAI's new agreements would be worth hundreds of millions of dollars in the future, due to IAI's greater access to procurement tenders to be published in India in the coming years. "The potential of these agreements is vast. They reflect the adaptation of IAI's business to the Indian market based on a strategy of partnerships in future tenders," Weiss concluded.
On Darfur Rapes & UN Document Showing Army Filmed Interviews, UN Says It Won't “Comment on Leaks”

01:51
In Darfur, After UNAMID Whitewash Discredited by Memo, UN Silent on Leaks By Matthew Russell Lee UNITED NATIONS, November 21, more here -- Ten days after after the UN issued a statement on its internal investigation into charges it covered-up attacks in Darfur, its UNAMID mission there issued a statement that "village community leaders reiterated to UNAMID that they coexist peacefully with local military authorities in the area" and that no evidence of rape was found. Since this UNAMID statement followed by procrastination, authorities in Khartoum have twice banned re-entry into Tabit - and now have asked UNAMID to start planning to leave. Inner City Press on November 21 asked UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric to explain UNAMID's November 9 press release in the context of the internal memorandum, put online here, that UNAMID knew Sudanese security was filming the interviews, had even put together a "committee" of Thabit residents to speak to UNAMID. Dujarric said he wouldn't start now to comment on leaks. There are other leaks implicating UN Peacekeeping's Herve Ladsous. Is not commenting, like Ladsous has refused to answer Press questions, the right approach for the UN? Inner City Press on November 19 asked UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric what the UN would do in the wake of its (cover up) November 9 press release, and about bombing in North Darfur three days earlier. On November 20, UN Associate Spokesperson Vannina Maestracci was in charge of the UN noon briefing, and read out a statement that UNAMID is trying to verify the reports of bombing on November 16. One has to wonder, are they mishandling this like the rape reports in Thabit? So Inner City Press asked, what is actually being done to get into Thabit, after the cover-up press release? Inner City Press asked about UNAMID's acting head Abiodun Bashua's reference to "rumors" of rape in Thabit - is that the UN's position? And why hasn't UNAMID accessed the site(s) of the November 16 bombings, four full days later? Maestracci began to answer, then said she'd check. Moments later, when Jose Ramos Horta pointed at Inner City Press to ask a question about the review of UN Peacekeeping he is leading, Maestracci cut in and called on others, including the UN Censorship Alliance's sidekick, to ask questions first. On November 21, Dujarric returned with an answer, that UNAMID had in this case done out and had found "craters." But apparently UNAMID drew no conclusions from that. Inner City Press at the November 17 UN noon briefing asked Ban's deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq about Sudanese forces having filmed UNAMID's interviews and to confirm the new blockage. Haq did not comment on UNAMID letting its interviews about rape be filmed by Sudanese authorities; he confirmed the blockage and said to expect a comment from Ban. And two hours later it came: "The Secretary-General is deeply troubled about persistent allegations of mass rape in Thabit, North Darfur. The African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) visited Thabit on 9 November. However, the heavy presence of military and police in Thabit made a conclusive investigation difficult. UNAMID has since then attempted to gain further access to shed light on what happened. "The Secretary-General is concerned that after intense consultations with the Government in Khartoum and with local authorities in Darfur, UNAMID was yesterday denied access to Thabit. Only a full investigation by UNAMID will help shed light over these serious allegations. The Secretary-General therefore urges the Government of Sudan to grant UNAMID unfettered access, without further delay, to Thabit and its population so that these reports can be verified." Ban does not mention that his and Herve Ladsous' mission had this to say, on November 9: "Village community leaders reiterated to UNAMID that they coexist peacefully with local military authorities in the area. None of those interviewed confirmed that any incident of rape took place in Thabit on the day of that media report. The team neither found any evidence nor received any information regarding the media allegations during the period in question.” Who is going to take action, on whom, about that? Inner City Press and the new Free UN Coalition for Access are asking.

Meridian air base had 2 prior incidents with training planes in the last 13 months

03:48
Within the last 13 months there have been at least two incidents involving T-45C Goshawks at the Meridian Naval Air Station, possibly highlighting what officials have said is a bigger problem with the plane. A U.S. Navy T-45C Goshawk on training in the area from the Meridian base crashed Sunday afternoon in the Cherokee National Forest in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, Monroe County (Tenn.) Emergency Management Director David Chambers confirmed. The plane hadn't returned as of 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a Navy news release. The Chief of Naval Air Training is investigating. A release from the Navy states that there were two aboard the plane, a pilot and a student. Their status was unknown as of early Monday morning. On Sept. 7, 2016, a T-45C Goshawk assigned to Training Air Wing One crashed in a heavily wooded area while conducting a training flight. The student and instructor pilot were able to eject safely near the airfield at NAS Meridian. On Jan. 17, Naval Air Station Meridian said two pilots — an instructor and student — were involved when a T-45C Goshawk crashed on a training flight. Both pilots safely ejected from the aircraft and were evaluated and released from an area hospital. At this point the causes for both of the crashes, as well as Sunday afternoon's crash in Tennessee, are unknown. In April, the Navy grounded some of its T-45 training jets after instructor pilots expressed concerns about the aircrafts' oxygen systems. This affected training at the Meridian base, reported Julie Garcia of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. More than 100 instructors refused to fly the planes, citing a disorientation disorder triggered by a lack of oxygen or contaminants in oxygen systems, according to Fox News. Two instructor pilots told Fox News in April that the training jets were averaging three incidents a week.
