I am 25 weeks pregnant with high blood pressure. How can I lower it?

03:00
Preeclampsia is a condition of pregnancy caused by something that occurs during pregnancy that causes a woman's blood pressure to go up. For most people a normal blood pressure is about 120 over 80. If your blood pressure starts to slowly creep up and it's 140 over 90 or greater, then the doctor is probably going to start monitoring you. You can expect them to draw your blood and test your urine and watch your baby and also ask you a lot about certain symptoms you might be feeling like headaches, dizziness, blurry vision, and a sudden increase in swelling. If you're at home and ever have this persistent headache that you just can't kick it's always a good idea to go get your blood pressure checked. In your specific case you mentioned that your blood pressure was 144 over 72, the doctor tested your urine and it sounds like there's not any protein there. You want to know what you can do to lower your blood pressure. There really is nothing you can do to reverse the process once it's started but you can do something to try to slow it down. If the doctor has told you to be on bed rest or modified best rest then follow their advice because when we are at rest our blood pressure is lower. Your blood pressure at rest may slowly start to creep up because if your body is developing preeclampsia this will naturally happen. Because the cause is pregnancy the cure is delivery. It never starts to reverse itself until you've actually delivered the baby. This becomes very complicated if you're preterm. You did mention that you're 25 weeks and obviously we don't want to deliver you at this point unless it's necessary. You're the best incubator for your baby and there are no other incubators out there that are better. But sometimes if you develop preeclampsia then it becomes necessary to deliver the baby for their wellbeing and for yours. Ultimately complications of this can be as severe as a stroke and seizures for you. These things can also compromise the baby and there can be compromised blood flow to the baby because the high blood pressure also affects your blood's ability to flow through the placenta. They'll watch you very closely. They'll monitor your blood, your urine, your baby, combine all of these pieces of the puzzle together and it might come to the point where you have to deliver early for the wellbeing of you and your baby. Hopefully that's not the case. Hopefully you can carry your baby to full term. If you're developing it this early then I would keep in close contact with your doctor and make sure if you start to have suspicious symptoms that you get your blood pressure checked right away. Again, the only thing you can do is be at rest most of the time. Do this under the direction of your doctor and ask your doctor if they feel like it's necessary in your case. If you have any other questions for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.

Causes of High Blood Pressure in Pregnancy

03:23
Causes of high blood pressure in pregnancy This video is about high blood pressure that occurs during pregnancy. The medical expression for high blood pressure is hypertension. Hypertension in pregnancy Three types of high blood pressure can be developed in a pregnant woman: 1. The first type of high blood pressure is called chronic hypertension, and it may appear even before a woman has become pregnant, although she has not been aware of its existence. 2. Gestational hypertension is a type that appears at the end of pregnancy. Later, after giving birth to a baby, it is no longer present. 3. Pregnancy-induced hypertension is a type of high blood pressure that can cause serious problems for the mother and the baby. This type usually appears after the 20th week of pregnancy, and is also called toxemia and preeclampsia. Problems due to high blood pressure If a mother has chronic hypertension, the baby may grow more slowly than normal, and because of that, the baby may not develop as it is supposed to be. According to medicine, gestational hypertension can not cause serious problems for you and your baby, but you may be more predisposed to high blood pressure later in life. Over time, it is much more serious and has severe signs, such as headaches, blurred vision, abdominal pain and dizziness. It also affects the baby in a way that slows down its growth, causing a premature birth. The treatment of high blood pressure during pregnancy Pregnant women should be very careful during pregnancy and should not take any medication that is not safe for the baby. If you are not sure about the medication, consult your doctor. In a case of chronic hypertension, women can continue taking the medication beforehand, paying attention to whether it is safe for the baby. Doctors usually do more ultrasound in these cases, to make sure the baby progresses well. The gestational hypertension does not require any treatment, but only in case of development of induced gestational hypertension, the doctor will control more closely the state of the woman. The induced gestational hypertension can only be stopped after delivery, and the status of a woman and a baby decide on the treatment. In case of chronic hypertension, after a delivery, high blood pressure will remain high, unless it is treated. It is important that a woman treat him so that he does not have any problems later on. The gestational hypertension and the hypertension induced by pregnancy return to normal after delivery. How to Lower Your High Blood Pressure During Pregnancy

How to Lower Your High Blood Pressure During Pregnancy High blood pressure and pregnancy isn’t necessarily a dangerous combination. But having hypertension during pregnancy requires special care, irrespective of whether you are diagnosed with this problem before or after conception. High blood pressure, medically known as hypertension, means the force of the blood that pushes against the walls of your arteries is too high. Blood pressure readings of 140/90 mm Hg is considered too high. While hypertension can affect anyone, pregnant women are at an increased risk. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an increasing number of pregnant women in the United States suffer from hypertension. In fact, according to the American Pregnancy Association, high blood pressure affects about 6 to 8 percent of pregnant women. During pregnancy, women can suffer from different types of high blood pressure, such as: Gestational hypertension that develops after 20 weeks of pregnancy Chronic hypertension that was present before pregnancy or that occurs before 20 weeks of pregnancy Chronic hypertension with superimposed preeclampsia that occurs in women with chronic high blood pressure before pregnancy Preeclampsia, a type of pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure and signs of damage to another organ system. There are several possible causes of high blood pressure during pregnancy, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. They include being overweight or obese, an inactive lifestyle, smoking, drinking alcohol, a first-time pregnancy, carrying more than one child, being age 40 or older, and having a family history of kidney disease, preeclampsia or chronic hypertension. Using assistive technologies, such as in vitro fertilization, during the conception process also increases the risk of high blood pressure in a pregnant woman, according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. High blood pressure during pregnancy puts extra stress on your heart and kidneys, which in turn increase the risk of heart disease, kidney disease and strokes. Along with these, other complications may include fetal growth restriction, preterm delivery, placental abruption and cesarean delivery. When suffering from hypertension during pregnancy, it is important to monitor your blood pressure level closely throughout the pregnancy. Managing your blood pressure can help you have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. At the same time, ultrasound exams should be done frequently to track the growth of the baby in the womb. Here are the top ways to lower your high blood pressure during pregnancy. 1. Monitor Your Salt Intake Generally, when people with high blood pressure cut back on salt, their blood pressure falls. It even prevents blood pressure from rising. 2. Try Controlled Breathing Deep breathing is a popular relaxation technique that helps lower your stress levels and stabilize your blood pressure. 3. Enjoy Walking Inactive women are at a higher risk of hypertension during pregnancy than those who exercise. Walking is one of the best cardiovascular exercises for pregnant women. 4. Increase Your Potassium Intake Potassium is an important mineral during pregnancy. It helps maintain your fluid and electrolyte balance. It also aids in the transmission of nerve impulses, contraction of your muscles and the release of energy from carbohydrates, fat and protein. 5. Eat Magnesium-Rich Foods A diet low in magnesium may lead to high blood pressure. A 1999 study published in Hypertension reports that magnesium deficiency is linked to an elevation of blood pressure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Our Social Links: Subscribe To Our Channel : https://goo.gl/7YPKcz For more tips see our blog: https://naturalhealthcarenhc.blogspot.com like us in Facebook: https://goo.gl/MmjtyD Follow us on twitter: https://goo.gl/USDg3k Google plus: https://goo.gl/B5B2oz Special thanks to: http://www.top10homeremedies.com If you found this information cool, useful or valuable please hit share and let your friends benefit from this as well!

Blood pressure during pregnancy : Normal Ranges & is it normal - Dr. Anitha Rao

01:13
It is perfectly normal for the blood pressure to show a little variation in pregnancy. This happens because of the pregnancy hormone called as progesterone. Progesterone relaxes the wall of the blood vessels, and cause a drop in the blood pressure. So we normally notice a drop in blood pressure as 100/60 or 90/60 in the first and second trimesters and it reaches its lowest in the mid trimester. After 24 weeks of pregnancy, it slowly starts to rise and is much so that towards the end of the pregnancy it reaches its pre pregnancy values.

Few questions exist as to effects that pregnancy has on a woman’s body. As her hormones fluctuate, a woman may feel fit and energized one day, but fatigue and nauseous the next. However, one of the greatest impacts that expecting a baby can have on a woman’ body involves the fluctuation of her blood pressure. Low blood pressure, while common in most pregnancies, can have alarming results and necessitate a woman needing more specialized medical help and hospitalization if necessary.

Symptoms of Low Blood Pressure During Pregnancy

01:49
What are the symptoms of low blood pressure during pregnancy? Classic symptoms of low blood pressure are dizziness, light headedness and even fainting. That's not too far off from how I feel after a bad bout of morning sickness. In that case, it may actually be from dehydration, not low blood pressure. The OBGYN monitors my blood pressure and says it is low. Doctors joke they want your blood pressure as low as it can go without laying you low. Why would they say that? High blood pressure in pregnancy is a killer, from destroying your kidneys to increasing the risk of premature labor and stillbirth. Low blood pressure isn't much of a problem. It is if I pass out. Think of this as the perfect time to eat all the salty stuff you like to bring up the blood pressure. What else could I do? Drink caffeine to get your blood pressure up, assuming it doesn't make you want to throw up. Take lots of rest breaks. I do that already. Get up slowly to minimize the risk of fainting. Lay down if you start to feel faint. Just what I need, getting up off my back to quickly laying back down while my blood pressure yo-yos. Lay on your left side to improve blood flow to your heart. The faintness is driving me nuts, because it's not safe to drive. If you have chronic problems, you need to see a doctor. It could be a sign of internal bleeding. What else would be a concern? You have to see a doctor if you actually have bleeding or chest pain or a bad headache. That could mean the low blood pressure is a sign of a possible heart attack or stroke. As if the baby wasn't enough to worry about. When will I get over this? Blood pressure goes down mid-pregnancy before rising in the third trimester. It will return to normal after you have the baby. Then it will go up due to the stress of having a screaming new arrival.

He's now 5, but Quinn Urban still feels like a new gift to his mom Amy. For years, she and her husband had struggled to have a baby. When she finally got pregnant, she wanted to know exactly what to expect. "I hate surprises, so I read everything I could get my hands on,” says Urban. “And, the books, they do talk about complications in pregnancy." But, Amy's pregnancy was easy. The hard part didn't come until after Quinn was born. Within a few days after she came home from the hospital, she felted tired, and achy in her neck and shoulders. " I just equated (it) to nursing, and trying to nurse, and looking at my baby,” Urban says. Then, the headaches began. Serious headaches. "I just remember I was taking a shower one night and I had to sit down,” Urban says. “It was, really, the worst headache of my life." Amy's blood pressure was high, but not dangerously so. So she and her husband waited, check it again at the grocery store. Normal blood pressure 120/80 or lower. More from the FOX Medical Team: www.fox5atlanta.com/health/fox-medical-team/142627171-story

Signs of High Blood Pressure During Pregnancy

01:47
What are the signs of high blood pressure during pregnancy? If you are afraid you have high blood pressure, you need to see a doctor. High blood pressure is dangerous. What could it cause? In the worst scenario, it could cause a stroke, heart attack or pre-eclampsia and premature delivery. What are the symptoms I need to be on the lookout for? You could see symptoms like visual disturbances. I feel that way when I've been throwing up so much I'm dizzy. You'd have blurred vision and sensitivity to light. You might also have headaches that won't stop and the sound of blood rushing in your ears. I suppose a grocery store blood pressure monitor would be more certain. If you think your blood pressure is going up, you need to get to a doctor. Pre-eclampsia can be life threatening. How can I prevent it? In theory, having a healthy cardiovascular system and limiting salt intake help. In reality, we don't have a good preventative measure. If only they could give me high blood pressure medicine to treat it. The only cure is delivering the baby, but that all too often leads to a stillbirth or preemie. I know that high blood pressure can ruin your kidneys, making pregnancy far worse than the regular literal bathroom runs the baby already causes. Prenatal diabetes raises the risk of high blood pressure, and pre-eclampsia has a strong correlation to it. Unlike the peeing in bleach test to determine a child's gender. If you felt light headed or had blurred vision after that, it is due to chlorine fumes, not high blood pressure. How often does pre-eclampsia occur? High blood pressure shows up in around one in fifteen pregnancies, and your odds go up with age, obesity and having multiples. The only thing worse than multiples is multiple preemies. That is guaranteed to give you high blood pressure if you didn't already have it.

Can one get high blood pressure in early pregnancy? - Dr. Harsha V Reddy of Cloudnine

High blood pressure is nothing but hypertension. The only way to detect it is by getting prenatal checks. The criteria for saying the woman has preeclampsia or gestation al hypertension is when the BP reading is more after 20 weeks of pregnancy. So one situation is if the lady is having a BP reading prior to pregnancy and it is continuing during the pregnancy, either she is aware of it or she is unaware of it .So we will continue to monitor it even after the delivery. So this is not related to the e pregnancy. There are some pregnancy related specific conditions, where the BP can be elevated even in the first few months of pregnancy. One is when there are multiple babies, twins or triplets. In these women the amount of placental tissue inside the uterus is more and since the placenta is the cause for developing preeclampsia, these women have the risk of developing a high early in pregnancy. Second is a condition called hydatiform mole. This is a condition were inside the uterus, there is no baby at all. There is no fetus but the uterus is completely packed with multiple tiny grape like structure, this is nothing but the overgrown placental tissues, the amount of cells which are formed in the placenta is more, So she is at a very high risk. 25% of the women who have a molar pregnancy, can develop a high blood pressure during pregnancy. The treatment is we have to evacuate the uterus as soon as we diagnose the condition and we have thrombophelias where they can develop these basic clotting problems can also develop blood pressure very early in pregnancy.
Why is My Blood Pressure So Low During Pregnancy?

Why is my blood pressure so low during pregnancy? We could fix that by telling you how much college will cost when your kid turns 18. That’s not the solution I need. I’m assuming there is not another reason for low blood pressure like a bad thyroid. Not that I know of. In some regards, you want blood pressure as low as it can go without passing out. High blood pressure is a definite health hazard, and if it is preeclampsia, life threatening. My blood pressure is getting too low. I get dizzy and lightheaded sometimes. Try lying on your side instead of your back. You can develop those symptoms if the kid is putting too much pressure on the veins in your back. I have low blood pressure even when I get up in the morning. It is normal to be fatigued when pregnant, so do not mistake that for low blood pressure. The doctor says I have low blood pressure. When you’re pregnant, your circulatory system is expanding. The result can be lower blood pressure even as your heart works harder to circulate all the volume, since you have to nurture two. I have to pee for two, as well. Really bad morning sickness to the point of severe dehydration can make your blood pressure drop. It seems like everything makes me need to throw up. Talk to your doctor. If you are dehydrated to the point of low blood pressure, you may need fluids to get rehydrated. I’ve already talked to the doctor, and all I hear at this point is to use pressure bands on my wrists and ginger. And that tastes worse coming up than it does going down. What can I do about it? Eat more salt, get more rest, drink more water, wait until the second trimester passes because that’s when your blood pressure is the lowest. I’m at around that point. The blood pressure can drop when you’re trying to stand up or rise suddenly, so go slow. It already takes me forever to get up. Try resting at an angle in the recliner instead of laying flat on a couch, so there’s less of a sudden drop in blood pressure when you stand up to rush to the bathroom. A lot of people have a drop in blood pressure after eating. Try eating smaller meals throughout the day to regulate both blood sugar and blood pressure. Which is supposed to help with the nausea anyway. Just take it easy, eat, drink and be merry before you have the baby. And if you still need your blood pressure up, I’ll tell you how much they expect the cost of raising the kid to be.

What can I do to help my low blood pressure while pregnant?

01:28
You mentioned that you're 19 weeks and you're concerned about having low blood pressure, you're worried about passing out because of it. I do recommend talking with your doctor about it, they can determine if your blood pressure is indeed lower than usually and determine if further investigation or treatment is warranted for that. Generally speaking a lot of women experience dizziness and it is normal to pass out occasionally, that can happen, especially if you stand up quickly, make sure you stand up slowly. Also drink water, at least eight to ten glasses each day. At this point in pregnancy it's really important to start sleeping on your side. The reason is because your main arteries and veins run through your trunk and if you lay flat on your back the weight of the growing baby and uterus compresses those vessels and causes your blood pressure to drop. This affects you and can also affect the baby. So to prevent this from happening, because while you're sleeping you don't always have control over what you're doing, get a firm pillow or a rolled up blanket and put it underneath your hip to prop you to the side. You may also want to do the same thing on the other side to support the weight of your belly, especially as it gets bigger it'll hang off to the side, and that will help you feel more comfortable. Again, I do recommend talking with your doctor and they can determine if anything else needs to be done about it. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/intermountainmoms and recommend us to your friends and family too.
