What is prognosis of Breast Cancer if it spreads to bone? - Dr. Nanda Rajaneesh

01:07
The prognosis of the breast cancer with spread to the bone is like metastatic breast cancer itself. But similarity of the pain depends on the area of the bone it is affected. It can lead to what is known as the pathological fractures, severe pain if that is in the vertebras. This is the reason these areas need to be treated. Chemotherapy is known to regress these lesions in the metastatic area. But sometimes the pain is very severe. Radiotherapy is known to help. These are called palliative methods of treatment.

Recurring Breast Cancer with Bone and Liver Metastasis

03:27
Leanne Coombes from Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada Leanne in her own words: "I was diagnosed in 2006 with DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma in Situ) in my left breast, so I went through surgery and radiation. My lymph nodes were clean and they were hoping that was it. But in 2008 it came back in the same place, so I had more surgery, this time it had traveled to my lymph nodes, and I went through 6 months of chemotherapy. And just in June 2011, it was discovered that it has come back again, this time it has metastasized to my bones and liver. Some chemotherapy and radiation were offered to deal with the pain, etc. I knew that there was healing that could happen to my body, I really believed that my body could heal from the cancer this was taking over... So I started doing some research online and came across some great places. But one day while searching I came across Issels (http://www.issels.com) and I spent 2 hours on the website just reading and rereading. I just had an incredible peace come over me that this was where I needed to be to heal. So here I am and I've been here almost 3 weeks and had some great results. We've been following some of my tumor markers, I've had 3 abnormal tumor markers that had dropped already in a short period of time. The largest drop being my CA-125 and it's dropped from 70 to 52 so that's a pretty big success, I'm very excited. I'm feeling great. Treatments are just fabulous...I'm feeling just better and better with each day. I will be leaving here with such an optimistic outlook, the most optimism I've had for a future. And I really can't say enough about the staff here. They've just been incredible, loving, caring people. Issels has definitely been a life-changing experience for me. I know I'm on my way to healing." For more information about the Issels Treatment, please visit our website: http://www.issels.com.

Breast Cancer with Metastases to the Liver, Lung and Bones

03:07
Letitia Venter, 43 years of age, from South Africa, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. In 2009 she had a mastectomy, and 3 months later developed skin lesions on her scar. She underwent radiation, which she said had damaged her immune system, made her lose weight and her muscles weak. The lesions came back and the cancer metastasized to her liver, lung and bones. Her tumor markers increased very rapidly and she needed something to reverse her system. She found the Issels Treatment Center on the Internet and 2 weeks later, in August 2010, flew to Mexico to get treatments. She said of her stay at Issels: "It turns out that was a very, very good idea. I needed to stop the cancer and reverse that and after a month here I have no cancer on my lung anymore, my liver cancer (was) down, and (I'm) quite happy. The doctors here are wonderful. They really know what they're doing. They're caring. They treated me with respect. I had lots of information. Everybody here--the staff in general--are very helpful... We needed lots of support and it was always there. Lots of laughter, good food, good nutrition -- juices -- everything that we needed was here...the hospital is great. I'm sitting here a happy person." To learn more about the Issels Treatment® please visit http://www.issels.com

20 early warning signs that cancer is growing in your body

04:14
20 early warning signs that cancer is growing in your body 1. Wheezing/shortness of breath Lung cancer patients remember noticing this as one of their first symptoms but didn't initially connect it to cancer. 2. Frequent fevers or infections Frequently a sign of leukemia, a cancer of the blood cells that starts in bone marrow. It causes the marrow to produce abnormal white blood cells that hinder your body's infection-fighting abilities. 3. Difficulty swallowing Most commonly associated with throat cancer, but can be a good indicator of lung cancer too. 4. Weakness and fatigue Such a common symptom of cancer that it should be looked at in combination with other symptoms to determine which it is. 5. Feeling full and unable to eat This is a sign of ovarian cancer. A loss of appetite even when you haven't eaten for a while is a tip-off. 6. Anorexia Could be an early sign of pancreatic cancer. A sudden disgust for coffee, wine or smoking can be linked to this as well. 7. Rectal bleeding or blood in stool Common sign of colorectal cancer. Blood in the toilet should be a big enough sign to see a doctor immediately. 8. Lumps in the neck, underarm or groin area Swollen lymph nodes indicate changes in the lymphatic system which can lead to cancer. 9. Excessive bruising or bleeding that doesn't stop Suggests abnormalities with the platelets and red blood cells, which can be a sign of leukemia. Leukemia cells crowd out red blood cells impairing your blood's ability to carry oxygen leading to clots. 10. Bloating or abdominal weight gain Ovarian cancer patients reported unexplained bloating that came on suddenly and continued for a significant amount of time. 11. Unexplained weight loss An early sign of colon and other digestive cancers. Also a sign of cancer that has spread to the liver, affecting your appetite and the body's ability to get rid of waste. 12. A red, sore, or swollen breast Indicates inflammatory breast cancer, unexplained changes should be told to a doctor immediately. A nipple that appears flattened, inverted or turned sideways had also been noticed by patients diagnosed with breast cancer. 13. Swelling of facial features Lung cancer patients have reported noticing puffiness, swelling or redness of the face. Small cell lung tumors commonly block blood vessels in the chest preventing blood from flowing freely to the head. 14. Sore/lump on the skin that bleeds, becomes crusty or doesn't heal Different types of skin cancer (melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma) can cause these, so be aware of any odd-looking growths or spots. 15. Changes in nails A brown/black dot under the nail can indicate skin cancer. Pale or white nails can be a sign of liver cancer. "Clubbing", which is the enlargement of the fingers with nails that curve down over the tips, can be a sign of lung cancer. 16. Unusually heavy or painful periods, bleeding between periods A common sign of endometrial or uterine cancer. A transvaginal ultrasound should be considered if the problem persists. 17. Chronic cough or chest pain Leukemia and lung tumors (among others), show symptoms that can mimic a bad cough or bronchitis. Some patients also reported a chest pain that extended to the shoulder and down their arm. 18. Pelvic/Abdominal pain Pain and cramping in the pelvis can be linked with the bloating signs of ovarian cancer. Leukemia also does this because it enlarges the spleen. 19. Pain in back or lower right side Often an early sign of liver cancer. Breast cancer can also be found through this as a breast tumor can press backward into the chest or spread to the spine/ribs. 20. Upset stomach Stomach cramps or a frequently upset stomach can be a sign of colorectal cancer. Subscribe ► https://goo.gl/1dVtUS Thank you for watching. Breast Cancer's Spread to Brain Linked to Protein

01:37
Brain metastasis is a scary result of advanced stage breast cancer, with a grim prognosis and scarce solutions for treatments. Cancer's spread to the brain often goes undetected until patients start experiencing symptoms such as headaches, seizures, and difficulty thinking. Researchers hope to gain more insight into the mechanisms that drive brain metastasis with the goal of achieving earlier diagnoses and improved treatments.

Stage 3 Breast Cancer | Breast Cancer Causes, Symptoms, Stages

03:13
Stage 3 Breast Cancer | Breast Cancer Causes, Symptoms, Stages What is breast cancer? Cancer occurs during cells multiply and grows out of control. If you have breast cancer, it means that this process began in your breast. No matter where these cells spread in your argument, it's still thought breast cancer. Breast cancer can start in the milk-producing organs called lobules or in the ducts. It can too light in the body's tissues. Increased plasma flow or a buildup of white blood cells may occur. This can result in redness, warmth, or injury, and it's known as passionate breast cancer. When cells grow and divide uncontrollably, they form growths. As the condition progresses, the cells begin to attack nearby tissue. Eventually, cancerous cells can break away and travel to nearby lymph nodes. Once they're in the common system, they can travel to distant organs like your bones or liver. Staging is based on how big the primary tumor is, how many lymph nodes are discovered to have tumor cells, and what, if any, other organs cancer has spread to. The spread of cancer cells to other parts of the body is called metastasis. What does stage 3 mean? If you have stage 3 being cancer, it means your cancer has spread away from your breast, but it has not reached your distant organs. Stage 3 breaks down as follows: Stage 3A In stage 3A mind cancer, one of the audience asks: No tumor is in the breast, or the swelling of the breast is any size. Cancer is detected in four to nine nearby lymph nodes. The tumor is larger than 5 centimeters. Small groups of cancer cells are also believed in nearby lymph links. The growth is larger than 5 centimeters. Cancer is also observed in up to three nearby lymph lumps under your arm or near your breast bone. Stage 3B In stage 3B breast cancer, a growth of any size is found. Cancer cells are found in the heart wall or skin of the breast. These areas may appear red or have ulcers. Also, one of the following applies: Up to nine nearby lymph nodes are involved. Cancer has spread to the lymph links near the breast bone. Stage 3C There could be a tumor of any size or no tumor at all. Also, cancer has invaded the chest wall or skin of the breast. There's inflammation or ulcers of the skin. Also, one of the supporters applies: Cancer is seen in 10 or more of the underarm lymph nodes. Cancer remains found in the lymph nodes reaching up on the collarbones. Cancer is found in the lymph nodes below the arm and near the breastbones. Because stage 3 breast cancer has increased outside the breast, it's harder to treat than advanced stage breast cancer. With aggressive treatment, stage 3 heart cancer is curable, but the risk that cancer will grow back after treatment is high. Stage 3 Breast Cancer | Breast Cancer Causes, Symptoms, Stages

Jolyn Paglinawan's Healing Testimony

09:58
Jolyn has indeed experience a miracle of healing. From stage 4 breast cancer which metastasized to advance stage secondary bone cancer. If you will just research on the ordeal of secondary bone cancer patients, you will realize how difficult and painful this disease can be. Patients with far less lesions on their bones can no longer move or if they do are in great pain. Most people with this disease only find relief through morphine based drugs. Looking at the PET/CT scan of Jolyn, her bone lesions are spread from her skull all the way down to her legs with most concentration on her pelvic area. As an analogy, bone cancer lesions are like rust building up in steel. They slowly chip away the bone. She underwent chemo treatment during the breast cancer stage and 2 years after another round of chemo for the metastasis to the bone. She was given the best (not to mention most expensive) chemo treatment for her bone cancer. She had to relive the horrible side effects of chemo which are hair-loss, nausea, darkening and drying of the skin, loss of appetite and so on. A month after her last chemo cycle we had the PET scan to check on the status of the lesions. We were so disheartened to find out that the whole chemo treatment did not even improve her condition one bit. As in 0% improvement. Even our oncologist could not believe the results. With such disappointing news and the lingering pain that she constantly bears one would think that she would be giving up on life. But not Jolyn. She is a fighter. She is steadfast and resolve that God has a plan for her and will heal her completely. Early May last month, a college friend of mine invited us to attend a christian healing worship at Church So Blessed in Quezon City (near GMA 7). Jolyn struggled going to church as her whole body was aching. When the pastor asked the sick to come forward for healing, Jolyn had to even cling on me to help her move forward. Several ministers of the church went around her to pray for her including myself. As the prayer started Jolyn got slayed (or lay down) and as everyone was praying for her healing she remarked that she could feel a cold or even tingling sensation down her spine and at that same instant she felt relief of all the pain in her body. She got up on her feet with minimal assistance and was claiming that her pain disappeared. At this point we were all in tears. Jolyn is totally convinced that this was the promise of God to her fulfilled. At first I could not help but question "could it just be adrenalin rush?". But it's been more than a month now since that time and she is still up and about on her own. She is even back to driving around again and going to the mall. So why did God allow healing for Jolyn? I personally believe it was her abundantly strong faith that God will heal her no matter what. She had no doubt in her mind that God will use her to testify to his greatness. And this is exactly what she is doing now. She has been testifying to so many friends, relatives and even strangers about her experience. She had the chance to testify in the 700 Club Asia. The following video is a clip taken from that show. I hope this will inspire as well as give hope to others to keep their strong faith in the Lord. Believe that nothing is impossible with the Lord!

Invasive Breast Cancer with Liver Metastases

05:09
Caroline Hindmarsh, 46 years old, from Northumberland, England. Caroline was diagnosed with Invasive Breast Cancer in March 2008 and has undergone mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In October 2009, she was told by her doctors that her cancer has metastasized to her liver. She didn't want to get anymore chemotherapy and decided to go to the Issels Treatment Center, which a friend of a friend, who had the same type of cancer, has referred her to because they had a good experience there years ago. Caroline finished the 3 week program at Issels in 2009, and in her own words: "I left with the vaccines and I started my regime at home. For a few weeks I wasn't well and lost weight, and the tumors grew and grew, but I kept on with the vaccines and the diet and the juice and the detoxification. And then I remembered the date, it was the 3rd of January and my husband gave me the vaccines on that weekend and at the end of that week my abdomen went completely flat and I was just astounded. And I couldn't believe it. So I think I rang Issels and spoke to my doctor, and they're all really, really pleased for me. But I knew I had to keep on with the regime, and I kept on, now it became a way of life and I'm happy to keep doing everything because I just feel so much better. And I decided to come back to the Issels Treatment Center this year (2010), which is exactly a year after my diagnosis to my liver because I wanted to boost my immune system again. And I'll tell you a little bit about the hospital. It is very, very welcoming, the doctors are very caring, very hands on I would call -- y'know, more sort of hands on than in the UK. Everybody -- the cooking staff, down to the people that clean your room -- everybody is very, very friendly. and it's just like one big family. And I was really looking forward to coming back. And so I think it's the best thing that I've done and I'm going to go home and keep on with my regime. So, I'm very glad to be back."

Download from iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/itunes-u/when-cancer-spreads-to-brain/id431848216?i=168965396 Several cancer types can spread to the brain including lung, breast, melanoma, renal cell carcinoma and gastrointestinal tract cancers such as colon and rectal. Secondary brain cancer (cancer that has metastasized to the brain) is more prevalent than cancer beginning in the brain (primary cancer). Ivo Tremont, M.D., assistant professor in Neuro-Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, discusses how cancer migrates to the brain, how it differs from primary brain cancer, as well as secondary brain cancer treatment and research.

James J. Urbanic, MD, a radiation oncologist, and Carnell J. Hampton, PhD, a physicist at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest Baptist Health, use the most advanced linear accelerator to treat lung cancer. The Elekta Axesse™ image guided linear accelerator offers highly-accurate targeting of tumors and lesions virtually anywhere in the body. Typically requiring only one to five treatments, it achieves excellent results in fewer treatments than required by standard radiotherapy. Radiation therapy with these techniques is a treatment modality for a wide range of cancers including lung, prostate, head and neck, esophageal, spinal cord, pancreatic, liver metastases, recurrent gynecologic cancers, bone metastasis and adrenal cancer. MRI ~ Bone Biopsy ~ MGUS ~ Update

03:30
Update video on what’s going on since seeing my Boston Oncologist for MGUS which is Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance on Friday. MGUS is a precursor to Multiple Myeloma. After the MRI I was referred back to Boston for a Bone Biopsy for a CT Guided Biopsy. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/mgus/symptoms-causes/syc-20352362 Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is a condition in which an abnormal protein — known as monoclonal protein or M protein — is in your blood. The protein is produced in a type of white blood cell (plasma cells) in your bone marrow. MGUS usually causes no problems. But sometimes it can progress over years to other disorders, including some forms of blood cancer. It's important to have regular checkups to closely monitor monoclonal gammopathy so that if it does progress, you get earlier treatment. If there's no disease progression, MGUS doesn't require treatment. When I get more results over the next couple of weeks I will do an updated video. I had a PT Scan which showed a Hot Spot. My Oncologist is having me get an MRI to see what this lesion is that they found on T-12 on my vertebrae. They want to rule out Multiple Myeloma. I am also a 4 year Breast Cancer Survivor, they want to also rule out Metastatic Breast cancer. Then I had a Bone Biopsy now Im waiting for results, That takes 7-10 days. Thanks my friends for always being so kind to me. It means a lot to me. Metastasis, Cancer Nomenclature, Tumor Nomenclature Lymphatic Spread Metalloproteinase

http://www.stomponstep1.com/metastasis-cancer-nomenclature-tumor-nomenclature/ Mesenchymal (connective tissue, blood or lymphatic tissue) cancers have a specific naming system. There is a prefix for different types of tissue that make up the tumor and a suffix to signify whether it is benign or malignant. However, Cancers of blood cells (Leukemia) and lymph nodes (Lymphoma), both of which are always malignant, do not follow this pattern. Prefix + OMA = Benign Mesenchymal Cancer Prefix + SARCOMA = Malignant Mesenchymal Cancer Mesenchymal Cancer Prefix • Lipo- = Fat • Osteo- = Bone • Fib- = Fibrous Tissue • Chondro- = Cartilage • Hemangio- = Blood vessel • Leiomyo- = smooth muscle • Rhabdomyo- = striated muscle Cancers that originate from epithelium (glands and surface/cavity lining) have a naming system that is more complicated. Benign epithelial cancers that contain glandular tissue (such as prostate, adrenal glands and certain types of colon cancer) are called Adenomas. Adenomas often grow into the lumen of whatever organ they are in forming a Polyp. Cystadenomas are hollow cysts-like cancers that are usually filled with fluid. Benign cancers of stratified squamous epithelium that form “cauliflower” finger like projections are called Papillomas. Malignant epithelial cancers are called Carcinomas. Metastasis is the spread of a cancer from the original tumor location to “distant” sites in the body. This is generally thought of as being separate from cancer invasion, which is the direct extension of a cancer across an organ or to neighboring organs. Invasion is a tumor growing in size and taking up more space, while metastasis involves migration to a completely new site. Metastasis is the most important prognostic factor for a cancer and is represented by the cancer’s Stage (More important than the cancer’s level of differentiation or grade). Metastasis is usually via the lymphatic system or the blood vessels. In this way, the cancer cells use the lymph or blood as a highway to get to other sites in the body. Carcinomas tend to spread via the lymph while sarcomas more commonly spread via blood, but there are numerous exceptions to this general rule. Carcinoma = Lymphatic Spread Sarcoma = Hematologic (Blood) Spread To be able to spread cancer cells need certain abilities which are gained via additional mutations. These mutations allow the cancer cells to break away from the primary tumor, “eat” through the basement membrane (Type IV Collengenase), “eat” through the extracellular matrix (Metalloproteinases), enter the lymphatics/blood, survive travel in the fluid, exit lymphatics/blood, and survive in the new site. The original mass is called the primary tumor while all subsequent masses are secondary tumors. Cancers can spread almost anywhere once they are in the lymph or blood, but the location of secondary tumor sites is not random. The circulatory anatomy and how accommodating certain tissues are to cancers mean that secondary tumors arise in certain areas most often. Due to these tendencies the most likely location of metastasis can often be predicted. Secondary Tumor: Most likely Primary Tumor: • Liver GI cancers like colon cancer • Brain (gray-white junction) Lung & Breast • Bone (spine) Prostate (blastic), Lung (lytic) & Breast (Both) • Lung Breast Liver Metastasis is most common among cancers that arise in the GI tract (Like colon cancer), which makes sense as the liver receives blood from the GI tract through portal venous system. The Brain Metastasis usually present at the Gray-White matter junction. This is because the width of the vessels changes quickly at this junction and metastatic “emboli” are more likely to lodge here. Metastatic brain cancer generally presents as multiple lesions while a primary brain cancer is usually a single lesion. Lung and Breast are the most common primary site for brain metastasis. Lung Metastasis is most often from breast cancer. Primary bone cancers are rare, but Metastasis to Bone is relatively common. Metastasis to the spine (resulting in low back pain) from the prostate is a common presentation in step 1 questions. Different primary tumors have unique secondary bone cancer characteristics. Lytic lesions are where increased osteoclast activity eats away at the bone and releases calcium (seen as hypercalcemia). Blastic Lesions are where increased osteoblastic activity results in more bone being laid down than normal. 1o Lung Cancer --) osteoLytic 2o Bone Cancer 1o Prostate Cancer --) osteoblastic 2o Bone Cancer 1o Breast Cancer --) Both lytic and blastic 2o Bone Cancer Now that you have finished this video you should check out the next video in the Cell Injury, Cell Death & Cancer sections which covers Cell Cycle (http://www.stomponstep1.com/cell-cycle-interphase-labile-cell-stable-permanent-tissue/)
