Can Allergies cause fatigue? Get your FREE REPORT here www.drambergolshani.com (Closed Captioned) Yes, while not as common as sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, etc, allergies can cause symptoms such as fatigue, tiredness, headaches and even depression. This quick video offers two approaches for addressing allergy-induced fatigue. The first is a band-aid approach which is to take 1000mg vitamin c every 2-3 hours. Vitamin C is a natural anti-histamine and can reduce levels of the inflammatory hormones that cause the fatigue and tiredness. You can take this as frequently as you need until you reach bowel tolerance. What is bowel tolerance you may be asking? It's diarrhea. Different people have different thresholds, so just be aware if this starts to happen and stop taking the vitamin C. It will resolve quickly. Do not take more than 2000mg of vitamin C at one time as it can also cause diarrhea in some people. The second approach to reduce allergy related fatigue is to eliminate food intolerances. Food intolerances are different than food allergies, but can cause just as many problems. I will talk more about this in a up-coming video. How to Get the Most out of Vitamin Supplements- Thomas DeLauer: When should you take your vitamins? To learn more about how I can help you, head to http://www.ThomasDeLauer.com Many factors play a role on how available vitamins and supplements are when you take them. Fat-Soluble Vitamins: Vitamins A, D, E and K- These are stored in the liver and fat stores in your body, so you do not need to consume these every day. They are easy to get from food as they are not easily broken down by heat when cooking. These are the most important vitamins to eat with food, as the name implies, they are only absorbed and used by the body in the presence of fat. These vitamins dissolve in fat and are then delivered to the bloodstream for use in the body. Not much fat is needed, but if taking a supplement, or even eating fruits and veggies, but sure to have some fat added. If you make a healthy smoothie, add some almond butter or you favorite oil, such as macadamia nut oil. When eating salads, do not use fat-free salad dressings! Olive oil and lemon juice are great options. Be careful if you supplement these vitamins and be sure to check with your doctor if you feel you may need to do so. These vitamins are only needed in small quantities and can build up to a dangerous level if too many are taken. Vitamin D is the main fat-soluble vitamin in the US where deficiencies are common. This is due to inadequate exposure to sunlight. Fortified foods and supplements can help. Try to obtain 5-15 minutes of direct sunlight twice per week to avoid a deficiency, and if this is not possible then talk to your doctor about supplementation. Water-Soluble Vitamins: Vitamin C and B-complex vitamins are water soluble vitamins that you need to be sure to include in your diet daily. Unlike fat-soluble vitamins, these vitamins are not stored in your adipose tissue or liver and are in essence washed from your body daily. Food storage and preparation are important when making sure to get sufficient quantities of these vitamins. Deficiencies are uncommon, however vegans do not have a natural source of vitamin B12 and usually need to supplement. While deficiencies are not common, it is still important to consume daily for bodily functioning. As these vitamins dissolve in water, you do not need to take these with foods, although you can if you want to. Minerals: Calcium and Magnesium (2,4) - These are best taken with food and good to take at night. Calcium is linked to improved sleep due to its muscle relaxing abilities and magnesium has calming effects on the nervous and musculoskeletal systems. Zinc (2,4) - Take with or after meals to avoid stomach upset. Do not take with dairy as calcium hampers absorption. Also avoid taking with iron as large quantities of iron can also hurt your body’s ability to absorb zinc. Avoid taking excess zinc, which can lead to anemia through suppression of copper absorption. Iron (4) - Best to take on an empty stomach. Avoid taking with zinc, calcium and vitamin E as these can decrease absorption. If you have a sensitive stomach you may not do well when taking iron on an empty stomach. If so, take with a light meal. Probiotics (4) - Best to take 30 minutes before a meal as this is when digestive enzymes, bile salts and stomach acid are at low levels. These levels peak after a meal, so this is the worst time to take a probiotic. Fiber (2) - Be sure to separate taking fiber from other nutritional supplements as fiber can hamper mineral absorption. Fish Oil (4) – Fish Oil is best to take with food and with your multivitamin, or other fat-soluble vitamins, if you take them. The fat in the food that you eat can help to aid in digestion and absorption. As fats take a long time for your body to digest, it is best not to take fish oil pills or eat a fatty meal pre-workout. This can cause digestive upset. Multivitamins: As these contain both water- and fat-soluble vitamins, take with plenty of water and some food with fat in it, but try not to take with dairy as this can reduce your absorption of zinc. Now, what is scurvy means? Scurvy is a severe vitamins C deficiency. Subclinical is something that doesn’t show up on a blood test or a usual test. It might be that you are kind of slowly developing a vitamins C deficiency, you are not quite in a full blown but you are just before that phase kind of like pre-diabetes type situation. And the other word for that is called Latent Scurvy where you have deficiencies but it doesn’t show up yet because you just don’t end up one day with scurvy. It just slowly starts to happen and a lot of people are deficient in vitamins C. In fact, 1 out of 5 men are deficient in vitamins C. 1 out of 9 women are deficient in the vitamins C. One person might have it in their like gums, bleeding gums. One person can have it in their muscles, the weak inflamed muscles. Where someone else can have it in the arteries of the heart. I wanted to give you an overview, kind of just a general idea of what could occur if you are starting to become deficient in vitamins c and maybe you are not full blown scurvy case but you have some of the symptoms. Here are some of the symptoms, fatigue, weak, irritable, leg pain, inflammation, achy joints/muscles. I mean this is very, very common. Now instead of getting out there and getting a very, very expensive test to figure this out, all you have to do is to start consuming foods that are high in vitamins c and see if you get better. See if these things clear right up and you are probably gonna find that they do. That is actually the easiest thing to do. But the tissue in your body that is most susceptible to vitamin c deficiencies is your vascular system. Because vitamins c is a purpose of keeping the collagen in the arteries nice and strong and elastic. When you don’t have vitamin c, you get certain like little lesions or holes in the arteries. Vitamins C in intimately involved in vascular integrity and so you have capillary damage which really happens with high levels of sugar in the blood, or glucose in the blood. Being a pre-diabetic or a diabetic and then you end up having high insulin. What happens is that the high amounts of sugar competes with vitamins c. In addition, the vitamin may affect the immune system and could help to manage autoimmune conditions such as RA, Type 1 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis (MS). Symptoms of vitamin D deficiency vary from person to person. Typical symptoms include: • fatigue • joint pain • muscle pain and weakness • bone pain • respiratory issues • neurological concerns including numbness • low mood, specifically seasonal affective disorder (SAD) Vitamin D and joint pain Vitamin D is vital for bone and muscle function and may have anti-inflammatory effects. As a result, many people believe that vitamin D plays a role in relieving joint pain, particularly where inflammation is the cause. Some research links vitamin D deficiency to RA, which is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the joints. • A review of studies from 2016 showed that people with RA had notably less vitamin D in their blood than people without RA. They also found that people with RA were more likely to have a vitamin D deficiency. • A research paper from 2012 suggests that vitamin D deficiency may be a risk factor for the onset of inflammatory diseases such as RA and that it may increase the condition's severity. • Vitamin D supplementation is beneficial for the prevention of osteoporosis. RA sufferers have a higher risk of osteoporotic fractures and experience greater joint pain, so supplementation is advisable. • Vitamin D may also help improve mood and symptoms of depression. However, a large-scale Cochrane study from 2015 concluded that the current evidence is not strong enough to establish a definite link between vitamin D deficiency and chronic pain conditions such as RA. Therefore, researchers need to provide more evidence. How to get vitamin D The body can either create vitamin D through exposure to sunlight or obtain vitamin D from the diet. Key sources of vitamin D include: Sunshine When exposing bare skin to the sun, the body can make vitamin D from ultraviolet B (UVB) light. Although sunlight is an excellent source of the vitamin, it is essential to avoid hot, midday sun to prevent burning. Overexposure can cause skin damage and increase the risk of skin cancer. When spending time in the sun is more difficult, such as during the winter months, it is much harder to get a sufficient amount of vitamin D from sunlight, so it may be necessary to obtain this vitamin from dietary sources instead. Foods The National Institutes of Health (NIH)recommend that adults have 15 micrograms (mcg) of vitamin D per day. The foods below are some of the few that are rich in vitamin D, so the diet should include some of these each day if possible: • oily fish, such as salmon, mackerel, and tuna • fortified milk • beef liver • egg yolks • mushrooms • fortified breakfast cereals Supplements Some people, such as vegetarians or older adults, may struggle to get enough vitamin D, especially in the winter. The NIH suggest that supplements may be useful for: • older adults, as the skin loses its ability to synthesize vitamin D as effectively • people with darker skin, as it may be more difficult for the skin to use sunlight for vitamin D production • breast-fed infants, as their vitamin D status relies on another person's It is possible to obtain vitamin D supplements from drugstores or online. Too much vitamin D can cause toxicity, so it is best to talk with a doctor or healthcare professional before taking any new supplements and to adhere to the dosage they recommend. While there is still a lack of understanding around the role of food in mediating joint pain, people should not overlook the impact of diet and specific nutrients. Dr. Myhill's view is that the disease is characterised by a cellular metabolic mitochondrial dysfunction and has published several studies. Dr. Myhill has treated in excess of 10,000 CFS/ME sufferers over her 30 year career. The first book, "Sustainable Medicine: whistle-blowing on 21st century medical practice", is based on the premise that twenty-first century Western medicine—driven by vested interests—is failing to address the root causes of disease. Symptom-suppressing medication and “polypharmacy” have resulted in an escalation of disease and a system of so-called “health care,” which more closely resembles “disease care.” In this book, author Dr. Sarah Myhill aims to empower people to heal themselves by addressing the underlying causes of their illness. She presents a logical progression from identifying symptoms, to understanding the underlying mechanisms, to relevant interventions and tests and tools with which to tackle the root causes. Functions include: Puberty changes in women Fertility Plays a role in controlling cholesterol levels Helps bone health Affects the brain, including mood Also affects the heart, skin and other body tissues Affects heart and blood vessels In males, the maturation of sperm and labido maintenance Estrogen is produced by the ovaries, fat tissue, testis and adrenal glands. There are three kinds of estrogen: Estradiol - the primary kind of estrogen found in women during their fertile years Primarily produced in the ovaries, but also the placenta and adrenal glands Excess estradiol is implicated in many diseases, such as cancers and fibroids Found in both women and men Estriol - the estrogen associated with pregnancy A waste product of estrogen metabolism Estrone - the estrogen produced postmenopause Produced in tissues throughout the body, mainly fat and muscle tissues Known as the weakest form of estrogen Found in both women and men Estrogen levels change: Throughout the month when fertile, with peak estrogen in the middle of a woman’s menstrual cycle, signalling ovulation, and the lowest levels while bleeding. Estrogen levels drop after menopause. Problems can arise when your body produces too much or too little estrogen Too little - symptoms: Women Irregular periods Mood swings Loss of sexual desire Trouble sleeping Hot flashes Headaches Men Excess adipose tissue around the midsection Low sexual desire Too little causes: Anorexia Extreme exercise Medications Hypogonadism Post-childbirth Too much - symptoms: Women Irregular periods Weight gain Fatigue Low sex drive Depression and anxiety More intense premenstrual pain Cysts Men Erectile dysfunction Female characteristics, such as breasts Prostate enlargement and cancer Low sex drive Depression Fatigue Weight gain Too much causes: Obesity Puberty Diabetes Pregnancy High blood pressure Ovarian or adrenal gland tumors Medications When estrogen is broken down through aerobic metabolism, it can be broken into “good” or “bad” estrogen metabolites. The good metabolites, 2-hydroxyestrone (2-OHE), are estrogen antagonists. They have high antioxidant activity, providing protection for the heart and brain. The bad metabolites, 16-hydroxyestrone (16-OHE), are estrogen agonists. They have been implicated in causing cancer and weight gain. Therapies that increase the 2-OHE:16-OHE ratio are thought to decrease the risk for a number of estrogen-responsive cancers. Natural compounds found in food have been founds to be antiestrogenic and thus are being further explored to discover how to capture these benefits for possible cancer prevention and treatment. DIM (Diindolylmethane) DIM is a stable compound derived from the plant indole I3C (indole-3-carbinol) found in cruciferous vegetables. Dietary indoles found in cruciferous veggies such as broccoli and cabbage, have been found to exhibit chemoprotective and chemotherapeutic properties against many cancers. Its benefit has to do with hormone balancing. I3C has been found to decrease estrogen signaling and alter estrogen metabolism, leading to a reduced production of “bad” estrogen metabolites. DIM consumption has been linked to an increase in the production of the “good” estrogen metabolites and thus a resulting decrease in the production of the “bad” estrogen metabolites. -Increases the 2-OHE:16-OHE ratio One study on women with thyroid proliferative disease (TPD) found that supplemental DIM enhanced estrogen metabolism in such a way as to act as a dietary antiestrogenic supplement and in this way may decrease the likelihood of women to develop TPD. DIM has other hormone balancing properties and can contribute to more balanced hormones. -This more beneficial hormone balance can lead to a healthier metabolism The hormonal balance influence of DIM also positively impacts testosterone. In certain studies, Americans has been found to be the #1 population in vitamin D deficiency. Some of the main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are a weakened immune system, candida or bacterial overgrowth, emotional ups and downs, hormone imbalance, trouble putting on muscle or losing weight, weakened bones or teeth, cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Vitamin D supports having a healthy immune response, digestive health, hormone balance, and more. The biggest causes of vitamin D deficiency are not getting enough sunlight, certain chemicals from plastic bottles (bpa), and toxicity. Try to get outside everyday for about 20-30 minutes of natural sunlight. Certain foods that are sources of vitamin D are wild caught fish, raw fermented milk, mushrooms, and eggs. However, there are small amounts in the food you eat. For a good supplement, I would recommend a high quality vitamin D supplement. You don’t want to take vitamin D2, but you do want to take vitamin D3. For supplementation, take about 2000-5000 IUs a day. However, if you have a severe deficiency, then for 1-2 months, you may take 5000 IUs twice daily. Lastly, you want to take your vitamin D3 with some form of fat like coconut oil or avocado to help absorption in your body. Chronic stress creates chronically high blood sugar, which the body has 3 choices: 1) Let sugar stay high in the blood, creating damage (glycation or caramelization of the blood vessels), which leads to cracked blood vessels and then internal bleeding (very bad). This is where atherosclerotic plaques form, because the cholesterol rushes to the areas of damage and inflammation to 'plug up' the holes. 2) Throw the sugar into the fat cells to create obesity. This is better than having damaged blood vessels, but creates it's own problems, both for health and cultural stress and social pressure for those who have obesity. 3) Throw the sugars in the muscles to be burned quickly, using the fast, but inefficient energy burning system (anaerobic glycolysis), which creates only 2 unite of energy (ATP) and 2 unites of "smoke" (lactic acid).
