Everest the harder way | Nick Talbot | TEDxWhitehall

18:47
Climbing Mount Everest is never easy. But it is considerably harder when you suffer from cystic fibrosis, a severe genetic condition that affects the lungs in particular. Until quite recently, few sufferers survived into adulthood. Nick Talbot is not only a mountaineer with cystic fibrosis, but his attempts to climb Everest coincided with a terrible natural disaster striking the mountain in 2014 and another in 2015. This inspiring talk shows how he overcame all these setbacks to find ultimate success, in doing so raising the profile of research towards tackling and curing this devastating disease. Nick Talbot is CEO of the International Valuation Standards Council, a not-for-profit organisation that is looking to improve the global approach to valuation, a fundamental part of our financial system which indirectly affects almost everyone. He is 40 years old and has Cystic Fibrosis (CF). After participating in medical trials earlier in his life, he has more recently embarked on some unusual ways of fundraising for CF charities, to help raise money towards medical breakthroughs to help manage or cure Cystic Fibrosis. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Doctor examines a patient at the Panchgavya Chikitsa Kendra

01:15
Dr. Mrinal Bakshi, works as a consultant at Panchgavya Chikitsa Kendra (Panchgavya Treatment Centre) in Nagpur, India. She says that the cow urine extract mainly treats skin diseases, chronic renal failure, urinary tract infection, asthma, cough, jaundice, hepatitis A in a brilliant fashion. The Ayurveda has detail mentions of importance of Cow's Milk, Curd, Ghee, Urine in the treatment of various human aliments. All these five products obtained from cow are individually called Gavya and collectively termed as Panchagavya. Every product has distinct qualities and uses in Health, Agriculture and other fields. The Scientists and Vaidya (Ayurvedic Doctors) working with the Go-vigyan Anusandhan Kendra have studied different aspects of Panchagavya. Some Medicines are formulated using Panchagavya and some herbs. The Clinical trials are being carried out with these medicines. Encouraging results are helping in firm foundation of "Panchagavya Ayurved Medicine" as a science for health care. A manufacturing unit of "Panchagavya Ayurved Medicine" is commissioned at Sevadham Deolapar, Nagpur (INDIA). A license for manufacturing of medicine has been obtained from F.D.A. Maharashtra. The manufacturing is carried out under supervision of qualified Vaidyas. The cows are regularly examined by veterinary doctors. Go-vigyan Anusandhan Kendra have established two permanent dispensaries in Nagpur city wherein more than 10,000 patients were successfully treated for Chronic and routine diseases like Eczema, psoriasis, Pimples, dandruff, leucoderma, vatvikar, obesity, blood pressure, G.I. ailments like acidity, constipation, nasal & mental disorders, asthma & other Allergic disorders etc. Since 1996 Clinical trials on some Kidney patients and Cancer patients have shown remarkable progress. Source - http://www.govigyan.com/panchagavya.htm Panchgavya or more commonly Panchagavya or cowpathy is a treatment based on products obtained from cows used in Ayurvedic medicine and of religious significance for Hindus. It is made up of five cow products; milk, curd, ghee, urine and dung. Panchgavya is also used as fertilizers and pesticides in agricultural operations. The medicinal usage of Panchgavya particularly cow urine is practiced in Ayurveda. Although some Indian doctors view the medicines as eccentric, proponents claim that cow urine therapy is capable of curing several diseases, including certain types of cancer. The Hindu nationalist organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh developed a beverage called Gauloka Peya which translates as "drink from the land of cow" that incorporates distilled and sterile cow urine mixed with water and traditional Indian herbs and medicinal plants such as Brahmi and basil in a 1-to-7 ratio, claimed by the manufacturers to have medicinal properties. The group announced plans to market the beverage as a 'healthy' alternative to soft drinks such as Pepsi and Coca Cola. One doctor from Abu Dhabi dismissed these claims. Moses' younger brother, Robert (Maharshi Raghava) and Balaramaiah's younger sister, Janaki (Rajitha) fall in love with each other. Against their families' wishes, they elope. Ever since then, the tie war is going between two families. After 25 years later, Chandu (Jagapati Babu) comes to the village and announces that he is the son of Robert and Janaki along with his friend Gopi (Sudhakar). He wants to reconcile the feuding families. Chandu stays in the house of the loud & frightful Nadabrahmam (AVS). He gradually endears himself to both families. Later, both his grandmothers suggest marriage. To avoid the situation, Gopi suggests that Chandu tell them that he is married. Chandu decides that this is the only way, thus lying that he is married to a Hindu-Christian like himself, Nirmala Mary. Suddenly, Nirmala Mary (Ravali) arrives. Chandu is confused, as she was just a figment of his imagination. After several encounters, Nirmala Mary comes clean with Chandu, telling him that she is the only child of Robert and Janaki. She then confronts Chandu, asking him why he wants to unite the two families. Then Chandu reveals his past. Chandu while living in the city, he lived next to a ladies' hostel, where Nandini (Raasi) daughter of Balaramaiah, was his resident. As she and her friends were trying to find a good song for a competition, Chandu indirectly helps her and falls in love with her. However she treats him as only a good friend. When Chandu was about to confess his love for her, Nandini instead tells him about her love for Lawrence, Moses' son. Hearing their plan to marry without their parents' consent due to the Robert-Janaki problem, Chandu volunteers to unite the families so that they can marry with the blessings of their families. After listening to this Nirmala respects Chandu's character of making his lovers marriage with her lover and she also volunteers him and they carry out the mission. Meanwhile Balaramaiah learns of Nandini-Lawrence love. The news spreads quickly like wildfire and both families now think they have run away and want to kill the members of the other family. Meanwhile, Chandu has reconciled the grandparents of the two families. Only the fathers and the lovers are his main concern. At the end, he manages to unite the lovers and their families in a logical manner. After the marriage, the truth of Chandu's appearance is revealed, by arrival of Robert & Janaki. Later, the families ask him to marry Nirmala (whose actual name is Priyadarshini) to make him a member of their family. However, he refuses, telling them that he loved a girl and does not want to think of anyone else.

04:59:15
The Human Microbiome: Emerging Themes at the Horizon of the 21st Century (Day 3) Air date: Friday, August 18, 2017, 8:15:00 AM Category: Conferences Runtime: 04:59:15 Description: The 2017 NIH-wide microbiome workshop will strive to cover advances that reveal the specific ways in which the microbiota influences the physiology of the host, both in a healthy and in a diseased state and how the microbiota may be manipulated, either at the community, population, organismal or molecular level, to maintain and/or improve the health of the host. The goal will be to seek input from a trans-disciplinary group of scientists to identify 1) knowledge gaps, 2) technical hurdles, 3) new approaches and 4) research opportunities that will inform the development of novel prevention and treatment strategies based on host/microbiome interactions over the next ten years. Emily Baxter: "We Are All Criminals" | Talks at Google

46:15
One in four people in the US has a criminal record. It’s a record that affects nearly every conceivable aspect of one’s life, from employment and education to housing and healthcare. But what about the other 75%? Those of us who haven’t been caught, who’ve had the luxury to forget and the luxury to be forgiven; those of us with criminal histories, but no record. Join Emily Baxter as she discusses some of the stories and findings from We Are All Criminals, a project that seeks to challenge the narrative of ‘clean’ vs ‘criminal’ in the US and highlight the deep racial and class disparities within our criminal justice system.

Social and Behavioral Readiness for Kindergarten: Research and State-Level Perspectives

01:28:03
The Early Childhood Education Research Alliance (ECEA) hosted a presentation of new research from the Baltimore Education Research Consortium on child readiness for kindergarten. Deborah Gross, Johns Hopkins University, and Amie Bettencourt, the Fund for Educational Excellence, present findings from their study on the costly consequences for children who have not yet learned skills such as following directions, complying with rules, managing emotions, solving problems, organizing and completing tasks, and getting along with others. Two ECEA members from states in the Northeast & Islands Region respond to the findings and discuss potential implications for their state’s early learning and development standards. The content of this video does not necessarily reflect the views or policies of the Institute of Education Sciences or the U.S. Department of Education, nor does mention of trade names, commercial products, or organizations imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.
