Floor Plan Design TUTORIAL
In this design tutorial I'll show you how I develop and sketch floor plan ideas quickly. From diagram to rough sketch and on to more formalized plan layouts, you can follow along as I show you everything you need to draw a floor plan using one of our new residential projects as an example. I discuss in detail: - why you should start with diagrams (and not floor plans) - information you'll need before drawing - tools I use and recommend - tips for developing better ideas - form, space, and order (of course) - using grids - scale - and what I listen to when designing... metlhedz: what's the song at 3:03? be sure to let me know in the comments below. |m| // GEAR I USE // DRONE: *Mavic Pro by DJI: http://amzn.to/2hW3dTA DSLR CAMERA: * Canon 80D: http://amzn.to/2fBWGMQ LENSES: * Canon 24mm f2.8 Lens: http://amzn.to/29l7ac5 * Canon 40mm f2.8 Lens: http://amzn.to/29x2QcI * Canon 10 - 18mm f4.5 - 5.6 IS Lens: http://amzn.to/2vyErvS AUDIO: * Rode VideoMic Pro (hotshoe mtd.): http://amzn.to/29qlNM3 * ATR-2100 USB (dynamic mic): http://amzn.to/2dFDaKp ARCHITECTURE GEAR: * Prismacolor Markers: http://thirtybyforty.com/markers * Timelapse Camera: http://thirtybyforty.com/brinno * AutoCAD LT: http://amzn.to/2dxjMDH * SketchUp PRO: http://amzn.to/2cRcojz * HP T120 Plotter: http://amzn.to/2dBGf1O * Adobe CC Photography (Photoshop/Lightroom) Plan: http://amzn.to/2dhq5ap STARTUP TOOLKIT: * Architect + Entrepreneur Startup Toolkit: http://thirtybyforty.com/SPL -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "100K (Silver Play Button) + A Thank You" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tkK5qls78E -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

DIY Shed AsktheBuilder Foam Insulation Floor Joists Part 2
http://www.AsktheBuilder.com founder, Tim Carter, demonstrates how to slide closed-cell foam insulation in between floor joists. You want it snug, but not too snug. If you cut it too tight, it will cause the floor joists to get out of alignment. A table saw is an excellent tool to cut the foam to the perfect width. Small bits of foam will cover your body and clothes. Garage Over a Full Basement Design in Bozeman, MT
In this program I summarize my design build process for a garage over a full basement. The Design This garage over a full basement design came about because of challenging site conditions. Building a three car garage on a steep slope with a standard slab and stem wall foundation would have required over 200 cubic yards of compacted fill. This option would have required trucking in fill and was cost prohibitive. In addition the down slope perimeter foundation frost walls would have been in excess of 14’ tall. This was not an efficient use of time and resources’ so I considered other options. As the alternative I decided to take the same area that would have been filled with compacted fill and create a full 900 sq. ft. walkout basement below the three car parking slab. Structure The big questions were how to support the weight of that suspended parking slab, as well as how to get it formed. For this garage over a full basement design I did my research and decided on pouring a slab over a combination of engineered structural I beams and steel pan decking. These interlocking steel pans are a permanent stay in place form that we pour the slab on. The ribbed profile of these steel pans interlock with the concrete and provide an additional level of positive reinforcement. Engineering Once I finished the overall design and my working drawings, I hired a local engineering company to check my structural plan, size the steel beams, spec the pan thickness, and calculate the size and layout of the steel rebar. I also retained the engineers as special inspectors to verify and document the execution of the engineering details for this garage over a full basement project. Upper parking slab drainage Garage slabs require slope for drainage. Thickening the back end of the slab to get a slope was not an option. To get the needed slope we nested the steel pan decking into a sloped ledge that had been formed into the perimeter of the exterior walls. This allowed for a consistent slab thickness front to back and provided the needed slope for drainage. The upper slab preparation was extensive. We dropped our steel I beams into place with a boom truck. Our precut steel pans were put down over the supporting I beams, and an extensive matt of steel rebar was layed out per engineering specs. Before we poured I consulted with my plumber and we decided to install pex in the parking slab in case the owners wanted to heat this upper level. Basement Living Area This garage over a full basement design called for a small kitchen and a bathroom, which required some under slab plumbing. We also installed pex tubing for a future hydronic heating system. The basement walls were waterproofed and insulated before backfill. The lower level walls of the walkout area and the entire upper garage structure are standard wood frame construction. The finished product This project was a combination of structural and esthetic issues that challenged my creativity and problem solving abilities. Creating this garage over a full basement living area was a great experience from both a design and build perspective, and ultimately took my design and build skills to a whole new level. This structure turned out to be a nice compliment to the main house and a valuable asset to the new owners.

Simple Living: Building a Low Cost Panel Home (Structural Insulated Panels / SIP)
http://www.danielunedo.com/ Using painted galvanized steel structural insulated foam panels (SIPs), my awesome brother (the one wearing the hat) put together my 96 square meter (including the large verandah) house in 4 weekends. That's 1033 square feet. The building materials are all readily available and cheap, with the big expense being the concrete foundation that's needed to bolt the panels to. The panels are highly insulated and make for comfortable temperatures inside year round, saving up to 50% on energy costs compared to other building styles. I also chose a cool and breezy mountain-foot site to build. I have 3 solar photovoltaic panels and 2 wind generators for power, connected to a sinewave inverter. I was initially going to make a much smaller house, but quickly realised that the panels were so cheap that adding another room and a large verandah wouldn't increase the cost much at all. If I need more space in the future, I can close the verandah and turn it into another room. Because we didn't use a skeleton frame, the house has to be a bungalow. For multi-storey buildings, a steel skeleton frame is needed. Panels: €11,000 Foundation: €12,000 More information about SIPs here: http://www.eco-panels.com/ (I didn't use this US company as I'm European, but their website is informative)
AirCrete Foam Injection System
Get your Little Dragon from Domegaia.com This is a very efficient DIY system for making AirCrete. One bag of cement makes about 45 gallons of AirCrete in just a few minutes. We cut 5" off the top of a plastic 55 gallon drum. Premix a bag of cement with 6.5 gallons of water. Then turn on Little Dragon to inject foam directly into the mixing paddles of the hand held mixer for instant blending. The foam is produced by mixing 2 cups of liquid dish detergent (or commercial foaming agent) into a 5 gallons bucket of water. Put Little Dragon on top the 5 gallon bucket and turn it on. It's that simple.

Home Marley Dance Floor Options for Over Concrete or Carpet - Greatmats
Today we will compare home marley dance flooring options available at http://www.greatmats.com/home-dance-floors.php?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=optionsvideo&utm_campaign=homemarleyoptions. Greatmats has two high performance systems that are both affordable and easy to install. The home marley dance floor systems feature either a high density foam or an underlayment. Both are installed beneath an all-purpose vinyl marley surface. The type of underlayment that is best for your installation is determined by the surface of your existing floor. If you are installing your home dance flooring over concrete, you’ll want to install a layer of 2x2 foot high density Foam Tiles called Sport Plus Designer Foam Tiles. These tiles are ⅜ inch thick and consist of a high density foam that provides separation between the marley surface and the hard concrete floor, without losing support for the dancer. Cover the foam tiles with our Adagio marley floor for a finished multipurpose home dance floor. This system is not recommended for advanced ballet as it can be too soft and slow to respond for pointe. For advanced ballet and pointe, use our plyometric rubber underlayment (contact customer service before choosing this option). If you are looking to convert a carpeted room into a home dance studio, there’s no need to tear up that carpet. Use your existing carpet as the cushioned layer of your dance flooring system and install our Flat Top Court Floor Tiles over the carpet, for a firm surface on which to install your marley flooring. The raised ⅝ inch thick polypropylene tiles will click together and stay in place on your carpet. The top surface of the modular tiles provides support for the Adagio marley vinyl material. Neither of these options require adhesive to install. Simple use a tape down installation option if necessary. Both options can be taken up as needed, making them portable if your needs change. Thanks for watching. Now go out and be great!

Building our new House in the Philippines
We started building this house during my 3 month visit to the Philippines in 2012, we didn't really plan to build a house this soon but the opportunity arose so we began our House building Project. After 1 month of building we returned to New Zealand and continued the project checking progress with weekly photos, phone calls and of course funded the construction with bags loads of pesos. This is our first Video attempt using Movie Maker so we would love to hear your comments and can answer any of your questions regarding building in the Philippines.
