And having hypertension is one of the leading causes of a heart attack or stroke.(1) Now, there are lots of ways to naturally lower your blood pressure and under this video, in the description area, I’ve listed some of my favorites. However, don’t go there yet because most people, including doctors, mistakenly consume less salt to lower blood pressure. However, low-salt diets typically don’t make much of a difference. What does make a big difference is lowering sugar in your diet and more specifically, “high fructose corn syrup” In a recent study in the journal Open Heart (2), the authors write: “Evidence from epidemiological studies and experimental trials in animals and humans suggests that added sugars, particularly fructose, may increase blood pressure and blood pressure variability, increase heart rate and myocardial oxygen demand, and contribute to inflammation, insulin resistance and broader metabolic dysfunction. Thus, while there is no argument that recommendations to reduce consumption of processed foods are highly appropriate and advisable, the arguments in this review are that the benefits of such recommendations have less to do with sodium—minimally related to blood pressure and perhaps even inversely related to cardiovascular risk—and more to do with highly-refined carbohydrates and sugars." The Problem Started In The 1970s Food and beverage manufacturers began switching their sweeteners from sucrose (table sugar) to corn syrup in the 1970s when they discovered that High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) was far cheaper to use in their products. In fact, HFCS is the #1 source of calories in America!!!( 3) It’s found in almost everything you can think of. More specifically, in sodas and fruit juices. But also in many pre-packaged foods. This also includes “healthy sugars” sweetened with agave. My Proven “Prescription” and Recommendation For You You must do your best to limit and eliminate all HFCS and to do this, make sure you read labels. Again, the LESS pre-packaged the food, the better. Limit your TOTAL fructose to 25 grams or less, that’s about 100 calories daily. This includes the natural fructose found in fruits. If you are already suffering from high blood pressure or signs of insulin resistance like diabetes, overweight and high cholesterol, you should be particularly careful to limit your fructose, including that from whole fruits, to 15 grams per day or less. That’s about 60 calories daily. So there you have it. Focus more on limiting your sugars, this includes fruit sugar, fructose … and especially “high fructose corn syrup” which is found in most pre-packaged foods, especially sodas and fruit juices. Now, I wanted to keep this video short and simple so you have something to implement today and start get results right away. High blood pressure also known as hypertension, is one of the most common problem a lot of people suffer from. Causes or risk factors of high BP could be age related that means the older you grow the risk of developing high BP is even more. Also, family history, unhealthy eating habits or eating a high fat diet, doing less physical activity, pregnancy, being obese or overweight, excess consumption of alcohol, stress and anxiety, diabetes are certain factors that contribute in developing hypertension. In this video we have tried compiling list of foods that may prove helpful in controlling high blood pressure. Including foods like dark green leafy vegetables, skimmed milk and its products, fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds and doing regular workout or practicing yoga will definitely help you control high BP. Blood pressure readings have two numbers, for example 120/90mmHg (is considered normal blood pressure). The first number is systolic blood pressure which is the highest pressure when your heart beats and pushes the blood round your body. The last one is your diastolic blood pressure which is the lowest pressure when your heart relaxes between beats. Readings over 120/80 mmHg and up to 139/89 mmHg are in the normal to high range. Your doctor will advise what your ideal blood pressure should be. Blood pressure over 140/90 mmHg is generally considered to be high. Include these foods shown in the video in your daily diet to maintain your blood pressure. These foods are rich in potassium magnesium and other minerals which help in maintain the level of sodium in the body. The more potassium you eat, the more sodium you lose through urine. If you have high blood pressure, it's best to eat a diet low in saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars.

Certain foods raise your blood pressure - we all know that. But when you ask someone exactly which foods lower blood pressure and which ones increase it, many will just say "it goes up when you eat meat, and down when you eat fruits and vegetables." In a general sense, that right. But many people don't realize that it's not that simple. Food that comes from animals is usually more likely to cause hypertension - high blood pressure - than fruits and vegetables. But even some foods that don't come from animals may contain a lot of certain elements - especially sodium or salt - that affect blood pressure in a negative way. Think potato chips, frozen foods that come in a box (like frozen lasagna), and canned soups, just to name a few. And then there are those fast food french fries we all love. This video offers the basics of a high blood pressure diet plan, spelling out foods to avoid and foods to eat to keep your blood pressure in a normal range. This video is intended for the general public - not for medical professionals. It's meant to provide basic and introductory information about hypertension. If you think your blood pressure is too high, you should see your doctor, and rely solely on his or her diagnosis and advice.

15 Foods to Avoid if You Have High Blood Pressure 15. Deli Meat Processed deli and lunch meats you buy to make sandwiches can quickly become a sodium trap. Deli meats are often cured, seasoned, and preserved with salt to last longer. A two-ounce serving of some lunch meats could contain about 600 milligrams of sodium or more. 14. Chinese Take-out It's about the sodium. Some food items could contain more than two days' worth of sodium! 13. Frozen Pizza It's an easy and inexpensive dinner, right? All you have to do is turn your oven on to 425 degrees, and pop that baby in until the cheese starts to melt and the crust turns golden brown. 12. Baked Goods Those packed glossy sweet goods that sometimes come with colorful icing and sprinkles are enticing, but with salted saturated fats, sugar, and sodium-rich leavening agents, they are anything but good for you. 11. Canned Tomato Products Both canned tomato sauce and canned tomato juice are loaded with sodium. One cup of tomato juice has 680 milligrams of sodium, while one serving of spaghetti with meat sauce contains 1,300 milligrams of sodium. 10. Red Meat A big Texas-sized steak with salt for dinner is a no-no. A healthy eating plan should have only a small amount, if any, of saturated or trans-fats. Fatty foods are bad for both the heart and blood vessels. 9. Sauerkraut Here is a less obvious no-no. It is low in calories and a way to add vegetables to a bratwurst, but it also has over 460 mg of sodium in one serving. 8. Ramen Noodles Ramen noodles, cup noodles or any another pre-packaged noodle meal is popular among college students and lazy adults but highly damaging to your body. 7. Alcohol Everybody loves happy hour, but alcohol consumption actively causes blood pressure to elevate. It also damages the walls of the blood vessels while simultaneously increasing risks of further complications, making it a horrible choice for adults with high blood pressure. 6. Bacon To be quite frank, bacon is mostly fat. Three slices have 4.5 grams of fat and about 270 mg of sodium, and most people eat way more than that at breakfast or in those B.L.T. sandwiches. 5. Donuts Oh no! The donuts you love are indeed one of the foods to avoid if you have high blood pressure or just want to be a healthy person. The ring-shaped fried dough snack is worse than many other snacks in the market. 4. Frozen Pot Pies A single serving of pot pie equals about 1,400 mg of sodium in addition to about 35 grams of fat. That's more than 50% of your daily recommended intake for both, and in one serving. 3. Whole Milk Didn't expect to see this one on the list, did you? Milk is a great source of calcium, but high-fat dairy sources, like whole milk, provides you more fat than you need. One cup serving of whole milk has about 8 grams of fat, 5 grams of which are saturated. 2. Canned Chicken Noodle Soup The perfect food for those cold rainy days is far from perfect for people with high blood pressure. On average, a cup of canned chicken noodle soup contains as much as 760 mg of sodium. Eat an entire can, which makes about two and a half servings, will have you gulping down 1,800 mg of sodium. 1. Pickles The crunchy, low-calorie snack is a great complement to your sandwich order except for the fact that it's loaded with sodium. Three medium pickles, about 3.75 inches long, can have about 2,355 mg of sodium, more than the recommended sodium limit of 2,300 mg for an entire day. This is because the foods we eat can affect are blood pressure either positively or negatively. Having high blood pressure can also increase the risk of having other health complications, such as stroke and heart disease. When it comes to high blood pressure, knowing what not to eat is just as important as knowing what to eat, as some foods can elevate your blood pressure more than others. Lets discuss some foods that you should avoid if you want to be conscious of your blood pressure. 1. Processed deli and lunch meats should be avoided for high blood pressure. This is because they are high in sodium content. A diet that is high in sodium is bad for blood pressure and your heart. Sine these deli meats are often seasoned and preserved with salt to last longer, they are loaded with sodium. In only a two-ounce serving of some lunch meats, there can be as much as 600 milligrams of sodium, maybe even more, when the daily recommended is 1500 milligrams of sodium. 2. Although they may seem like a healthy choice and do contain vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, canned tomato sauced can be problematic for those with high blood pressure. Again, this is because most canned tomato sauces are packed with sodium. Just one serving of tomato sauce can include 100’s of milligrams of sodium, which can be troublesome for those individuals with high blood pressure. 3. Red meat such as fattier cuts of steak and ground beef should often be avoided by those individuals with high blood pressure. All healthy diets contain very low levels of saturated and trans-fats. When we eat foods that are high in both saturated and trans fats, it is bad for are blood vessels, heart and blood pressure. Steaks and ground beef often contain high levels of saturated and trans fats, with some steaks containing a full days worth of fat. As well, they are often loaded with sodium, which makes them even worse for our blood pressure. 4. Alcohol should also be avoided if you have high blood pressure. Consuming alcohol with actively cause your blood pressure to elevate. As well, drinking alcohol damages the walls of the blood vessels while also increasing the risks of heart and other health complications such as stroke and obesity. 5. Many individuals love and enjoy eating bacon. However, there is more than one reasons to stay away from this food if you have high blood pressure. Bacon has very few quality vitamins, minerals and nutrients for our bodies. As well, only a small serving of bacon can add a lot of fat to your daily diet. It is not rare to see well over 10 grams of fat in only a couple of sliced of bacon, with most of this fat being saturated or trans fat. Bacon isn’t just high in fat, but it is also high in sodium and cholesterol as well. 6. Lastly, donuts should be avoided if you have high blood pressure. Donuts are packed with calories, fat and sugar, all of which have negative effects on our blood pressure. This added sugar has no nutritional benefits for our bodies and can lead to weight gain, along with many of the foods mentioned previously. Being overweight makes your heart work harder, increasing the risk of high blood pressure. It also increases triglycerides as well. As well, since donuts are fried, they are high in both saturated and trans fats. Thank you for watching the video! Please like, comment and share. Please leave comments and questions here: http://barbaramendeznutrition.com/9-foods-to-lower-blood-pressure appy Monday everyone! Continuing to help raise awareness on the dangers of heart disease during the month of February (Heart Health Month), today’s video is all about the best foods to eat to help lower your blood pressure. A couple of weeks ago I shared a video on 9 Habits to Help Lower Blood Pressure. If you’ve not watched that video, go back and do so because it gives an overview of what lifestyle factors you can embrace to help you manage your blood pressure naturally. Sometimes it’s just a matter of making one or two shifts in your habits that can lead to your success. Food is medicine and medicine is food. There is no distinction and unfortunately, we’ve been taught differently. Through marketing and misleading information, we’ve been told we can eat virtually whatever we want and then, when something goes awry with our health, there is a pill out there that can help us manage it. But all medications come with side effects and sometimes those side effects can mean having to take more and more pills! This never happens when you clean up your diet and use a balanced approach to health. When you change the way you eat and the way you live your life, you not only often get the results you intended, but the side effect is often that you feel and look better too! Once you’ve checked out today’s video, I want to hear from you! Specifically, did you use dietary changes successfully as a means to lower blood pressure? How many of these foods did you include? And have you ever tasted the bonus food mentioned at the end of the video? I would love to hear your feedback. I am wishing you all a happy and healthy week~ xo B

#1 Tomatoes provide vitamin C, lycopene, and alpha- and beta-carotene. Interestingly, cooking may actually increase the health benefits of this lush fruit because although cooked tomatoes have less vitamin C, their lycopene content is more available. #2 Apples are high in vitamin C and dietary fiber (a medium apple has 4 grams of fiber). According to the researchers from Harvard University, for every 10 grams of fiber you consume, your risk for coronary heart disease drops by approximately 14%, plus, fruit fiber was found to be especially protective. #3 The polyphenols in grapes can help to protect you from heart disease by suppressing the process of atherosclerosis, a type of heart disease resulting in the buildup of low-density lipoprotein in artery walls. This condition can cause a stroke or a heart attack. #4 Oatmeal is high in soluble fiber, that can lower total and LDL cholesterol because it acts as a sponge in the digestive tract and absorbs the cholesterol which is then eliminated from the body. #5 Red cabbage protects against heart disease, largely due to its high concentration of beta-carotene, resveratrol, and vitamin C. According to a study conducted by the Department of Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health, one serving a day of vegetables and fruits, especially those that are high in vitamin C, like cruciferous vegetables, results in a 4% lower risk of coronary heart disease. #6 Bananas have one of the highest potassium contents available. Low potassium levels are associated with a risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, cancer, arthritis, infertility, and digestive disorders. #7 Oranges have the cholesterol-fighting fiber pectin. They are also a good source of potassium, that helps control blood pressure. In one recent study, 2 oranges per day boosted blood vessel health as well as it lowered blood pressure in men. #8 Cantaloupe may prove useful in the treatment of different forms of heart disease because of its anti-inflammatory abilities. Heart disease, including atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), is usually attributed to high levels of inflammation as one of the leading causes. #9 Mango contains a good amount of potassium which increases the fluid level. In addition, the high levels of fiber and vitamin C in mangoes help to lower serum cholesterol levels, specifically Low-Density Lipoprotein. #10 Flaxseeds contain omega-3 fatty acids (the best source), pectins, and dietary fiber to boost heart health. You can take them in milled or ground form to reap the greatest benefit. #11 The potassium, fiber, vitamin C, and B6 found in kale support heart health. An increase in potassium intake along with a decrease in salt (due to its sodium content) intake is the most important dietary change that sufferers of a cardiovascular disease can make to improve their health. #12 Garlic seems to reduce LDL and total cholesterol, especially in people who have high cholesterol. However, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides do not seem to be affected. #13 Walnuts are a good source of omega-3 fats which are beneficial for the heart, particularly when you use these monounsaturated fats in place of trans- and saturated fats. Thus, you raise your “good” HDL cholesterol and cut your “bad” LDL cholesterol. #14 Asparagus boasts two nutrients which help lower LDL blood cholesterol - saponins (nutrients that stop the digestive tract from absorbing cholesterol) and soluble fiber. Asparagus also contains potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure, and vitamin K, that can help with blood clotting. #15 Black beans are packed with heart-healthy nutrients, such as folate (vitamin B9), antioxidants, and magnesium. Additionally, their dietary fiber content helps control both cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Thank you. This was our video with healthy foods for your heart or a heart healthy diet. How I lowered my dad's blood pressure, without drugs or diets ►►http://drsam.co/yt/SeeItYourself ======================================= Top 10 Causes Of High Blood Pressure ======================================= 1. AGE Most people don’t realize that AGE is one of the BIGGEST factors for high blood pressure. I discuss this in my very important article, but what’s important to note is that after the age of 40, 33% of the population has high blood pressure and after the age of 60, over 71% of the population has hypertension! So, if you’re over the age of 40 and have high blood pressure, it may not be your fault. But it IS your responsibility to fix it right away and here is how I lowered my dad’s blood pressure naturally, in just 30 days. 2. GENETICS & FAMILY HISTORY Well, not much can be done here. This is in fact my own problem because I have a family history (on my dad’s side) of hypertension, heart attacks and especially strokes. You can read more about it, include my personal favorite solution that my dad, my family and I use to promote healthy blood pressure levels, naturally! 3. SMOKING Come on people, smoking has NO health benefits. STOP smoking! 4. ALCOHOL A little bit of alcohol is okay, especially if it’s organic red wine. But drinking every night will cause damage to your heart, arteries and liver. Alcohol is a toxic and it’s acidic, both being bad for your body. 5. BEING OVERWEIGHT Similar to smoking, being overweight has no health benefits. And the older you get, the harder it is to lose that unwanted fat. 6. SODIUM Salt has its benefits actually. Regular table salt or salt found in processed foods and packages is BAD for you. However, “natural” salts such as Himalayan rock or Celtic sea salt is GOOD for you and can actually help LOWER blood pressure. I’ll discuss this in a future article. 7. STRESS Well know stress is bad. However, you can’t get rid of it. What’s important is the MEANING you give to stressful situations. If you freak out, get negative and focus on the problem the entire time … you put your body under extra stress. The secret is to focus on the SOLUTION and to know that “this too shall pass” and worrying about the problem isn’t going to help anything… Especially our blood pressure or heart. 8. LACK OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY We sit too much these days. Just get outside and walk daily, even if it’s just for 15-20 minutes. It’ll do wonders for your physical AND mental health! 9. MEDICAL CONDITIONS This goes back to “genetics”. And if you know you have a genetic “problem”, which is making things worse, then you MUST make changes to your life-style because your body is more sensitive than the average person. This is a similar problem with my dad and why he had a stroke. 10. MEDICATION Ironically, many “heart” medications actually cause more heart PROBLEMS in the long run. They can increase your cholesterol, blood sugar or blood pressure levels. They can decrease blood flow and circulation. And they all cause extra stress on your liver and kidneys, which then cause more problems for your heart. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is unfortunately a common problem throughout the U.S. It is a very serious condition that, if untreated, can lead to heart attacks, kidney failure and strokes. A blood pressure reading is considered high if it goes over 140/90. There are many factors that can contribute to high blood pressure, including: obesity, excessive drinking, stress, birth control pills, kidney disease, adrenal disease and genetic factors. While there are many prescription drugs that help to lower blood pressure, it can also be treated with all-natural remedies. Today’s video will discuss ten home remedies to lower blood pressure. 1. Watermelon Seeds Watermelon seeds contain cucurbocitrin, which is a compound that helps to widen blood capillaries and improve kidney function. 10 Ways to Control High Blood Pressure Without Medication. Cure HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE Naturally! By making these 10 lifestyle changes, can lower your blood pressure, reduce your risk of heart disease. If you've been diagnosed with high blood pressure, you might be worried about taking medication to bring your numbers down. Lifestyle plays an important role in treating your high blood pressure. If you successfully control your blood pressure with a healthy lifestyle, you might avoid, delay or reduce the need for medication. Here are 10 lifestyle changes can make to lower your blood pressure and keep it down. 1. Lose extra pounds and watch your waistline Blood pressure often increases as weight increases. Being overweight also can cause disrupted breathing while you sleep (sleep apnea), which further raises your blood pressure. Weight loss is one of the most effective lifestyle changes for controlling blood pressure. Losing just 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms) can help reduce your blood pressure. Besides shedding pounds, you generally should also keep an eye on your waistline. Carrying too much weight around your waist can put you at greater risk of high blood pressure. In general: Men are at risk if their waist measurement is greater than 40 inches (102 centimeters). Women are at risk if their waist measurement is greater than 35 inches (89 centimeters). These numbers vary among ethnic groups. Ask your doctor about a healthy waist measurement for you. 2. Exercise regularly Regular physical activity at least 30 minutes most days of the week can lower your blood pressure by 4 to 9 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg). It's important to be consistent because if you stop exercising, your blood pressure can rise again. If you have slightly high blood pressure (prehypertension), exercise can help you avoid developing full-blown hypertension. If you already have hypertension, regular physical activity can bring your blood pressure down to safer levels. The best types of exercise for lowering blood pressure include walking, jogging, cycling, swimming or dancing. Strength training also can help reduce blood pressure. Talk to your doctor about developing an exercise program. 3. Eat a healthy diet Eating a diet that is rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products and skimps on saturated fat and cholesterol can lower your blood pressure by up to 14 mm Hg. This eating plan is known as the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet. It isn't easy to change your eating habits, but with these tips, you can adopt a healthy diet: Keep a food diary. Writing down what you eat, even for just a week, can shed surprising light on your true eating habits. Monitor what you eat, how much, when and why. Consider boosting potassium. Potassium can lessen the effects of sodium on blood pressure. The best source of potassium is food, such as fruits and vegetables, rather than supplements. Talk to your doctor about the potassium level that's best for you. Be a smart shopper. Read food labels when you shop and stick to your healthy-eating plan when you're dining out, too. 4. Reduce sodium in your diet Even a small reduction in the sodium in your diet can reduce blood pressure by 2 to 8 mm Hg. The effect of sodium intake on blood pressure varies among groups of people. In general, limit sodium to less than 2,300 milligrams (mg) a day or less. However, a lower sodium intake — 1,500 mg a day or less — is appropriate for people with greater salt sensitivity, including: African-Americans Anyone age 51 or older Anyone diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes or chronic kidney disease To decrease sodium in your diet, consider these tips: Read food labels. If possible, choose low-sodium alternatives of the foods and beverages you normally buy. Eat fewer processed foods. Only a small amount of sodium occurs naturally in foods. Most sodium is added during processing. Don't add salt. Just 1 level teaspoon of salt has 2,300 mg of sodium. Use herbs or spices to add flavor to your food. Ease into it. If you don't feel you can drastically reduce the sodium in your diet suddenly, cut back gradually. Your palate will adjust over time. 5. Limit the amount of alcohol you drink Alcohol can be both good and bad for your health. In small amounts, it can potentially lower your blood pressure by 2 to 4 mm Hg. But that protective effect is lost if you drink too much alcohol — generally more than one drink a day for women and for men older than age 65, or more than two a day for men age 65 and younger. One drink equals 12 ounces of beer, five ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor. Drinking more than moderate amounts of alcohol can actually raise blood pressure by several points. It can also reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure medications. 6. Quit smoking Each cigarette you smoke increases your blood pressure for many minutes after you finish. Quitting smoking helps your blood pressure return to normal.
