And having hypertension is one of the leading causes of a heart attack or stroke.(1) Now, there are lots of ways to naturally lower your blood pressure and under this video, in the description area, I’ve listed some of my favorites. However, don’t go there yet because most people, including doctors, mistakenly consume less salt to lower blood pressure. However, low-salt diets typically don’t make much of a difference. What does make a big difference is lowering sugar in your diet and more specifically, “high fructose corn syrup” In a recent study in the journal Open Heart (2), the authors write: “Evidence from epidemiological studies and experimental trials in animals and humans suggests that added sugars, particularly fructose, may increase blood pressure and blood pressure variability, increase heart rate and myocardial oxygen demand, and contribute to inflammation, insulin resistance and broader metabolic dysfunction. Thus, while there is no argument that recommendations to reduce consumption of processed foods are highly appropriate and advisable, the arguments in this review are that the benefits of such recommendations have less to do with sodium—minimally related to blood pressure and perhaps even inversely related to cardiovascular risk—and more to do with highly-refined carbohydrates and sugars." The Problem Started In The 1970s Food and beverage manufacturers began switching their sweeteners from sucrose (table sugar) to corn syrup in the 1970s when they discovered that High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) was far cheaper to use in their products. In fact, HFCS is the #1 source of calories in America!!!( 3) It’s found in almost everything you can think of. More specifically, in sodas and fruit juices. But also in many pre-packaged foods. This also includes “healthy sugars” sweetened with agave. My Proven “Prescription” and Recommendation For You You must do your best to limit and eliminate all HFCS and to do this, make sure you read labels. Again, the LESS pre-packaged the food, the better. Limit your TOTAL fructose to 25 grams or less, that’s about 100 calories daily. This includes the natural fructose found in fruits. If you are already suffering from high blood pressure or signs of insulin resistance like diabetes, overweight and high cholesterol, you should be particularly careful to limit your fructose, including that from whole fruits, to 15 grams per day or less. That’s about 60 calories daily. So there you have it. Focus more on limiting your sugars, this includes fruit sugar, fructose … and especially “high fructose corn syrup” which is found in most pre-packaged foods, especially sodas and fruit juices. Now, I wanted to keep this video short and simple so you have something to implement today and start get results right away. High blood pressure also known as hypertension, is one of the most common problem a lot of people suffer from. Causes or risk factors of high BP could be age related that means the older you grow the risk of developing high BP is even more. Also, family history, unhealthy eating habits or eating a high fat diet, doing less physical activity, pregnancy, being obese or overweight, excess consumption of alcohol, stress and anxiety, diabetes are certain factors that contribute in developing hypertension. In this video we have tried compiling list of foods that may prove helpful in controlling high blood pressure. Including foods like dark green leafy vegetables, skimmed milk and its products, fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds and doing regular workout or practicing yoga will definitely help you control high BP. Blood pressure readings have two numbers, for example 120/90mmHg (is considered normal blood pressure). The first number is systolic blood pressure which is the highest pressure when your heart beats and pushes the blood round your body. The last one is your diastolic blood pressure which is the lowest pressure when your heart relaxes between beats. Readings over 120/80 mmHg and up to 139/89 mmHg are in the normal to high range. Your doctor will advise what your ideal blood pressure should be. Blood pressure over 140/90 mmHg is generally considered to be high. Include these foods shown in the video in your daily diet to maintain your blood pressure. These foods are rich in potassium magnesium and other minerals which help in maintain the level of sodium in the body. The more potassium you eat, the more sodium you lose through urine. If you have high blood pressure, it's best to eat a diet low in saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars.

Certain foods raise your blood pressure - we all know that. But when you ask someone exactly which foods lower blood pressure and which ones increase it, many will just say "it goes up when you eat meat, and down when you eat fruits and vegetables." In a general sense, that right. But many people don't realize that it's not that simple. Food that comes from animals is usually more likely to cause hypertension - high blood pressure - than fruits and vegetables. But even some foods that don't come from animals may contain a lot of certain elements - especially sodium or salt - that affect blood pressure in a negative way. Think potato chips, frozen foods that come in a box (like frozen lasagna), and canned soups, just to name a few. And then there are those fast food french fries we all love. This video offers the basics of a high blood pressure diet plan, spelling out foods to avoid and foods to eat to keep your blood pressure in a normal range. This video is intended for the general public - not for medical professionals. It's meant to provide basic and introductory information about hypertension. If you think your blood pressure is too high, you should see your doctor, and rely solely on his or her diagnosis and advice.

This is because the foods we eat can affect are blood pressure either positively or negatively. Having high blood pressure can also increase the risk of having other health complications, such as stroke and heart disease. When it comes to high blood pressure, knowing what not to eat is just as important as knowing what to eat, as some foods can elevate your blood pressure more than others. Lets discuss some foods that you should avoid if you want to be conscious of your blood pressure. 1. Processed deli and lunch meats should be avoided for high blood pressure. This is because they are high in sodium content. A diet that is high in sodium is bad for blood pressure and your heart. Sine these deli meats are often seasoned and preserved with salt to last longer, they are loaded with sodium. In only a two-ounce serving of some lunch meats, there can be as much as 600 milligrams of sodium, maybe even more, when the daily recommended is 1500 milligrams of sodium. 2. Although they may seem like a healthy choice and do contain vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, canned tomato sauced can be problematic for those with high blood pressure. Again, this is because most canned tomato sauces are packed with sodium. Just one serving of tomato sauce can include 100’s of milligrams of sodium, which can be troublesome for those individuals with high blood pressure. 3. Red meat such as fattier cuts of steak and ground beef should often be avoided by those individuals with high blood pressure. All healthy diets contain very low levels of saturated and trans-fats. When we eat foods that are high in both saturated and trans fats, it is bad for are blood vessels, heart and blood pressure. Steaks and ground beef often contain high levels of saturated and trans fats, with some steaks containing a full days worth of fat. As well, they are often loaded with sodium, which makes them even worse for our blood pressure. 4. Alcohol should also be avoided if you have high blood pressure. Consuming alcohol with actively cause your blood pressure to elevate. As well, drinking alcohol damages the walls of the blood vessels while also increasing the risks of heart and other health complications such as stroke and obesity. 5. Many individuals love and enjoy eating bacon. However, there is more than one reasons to stay away from this food if you have high blood pressure. Bacon has very few quality vitamins, minerals and nutrients for our bodies. As well, only a small serving of bacon can add a lot of fat to your daily diet. It is not rare to see well over 10 grams of fat in only a couple of sliced of bacon, with most of this fat being saturated or trans fat. Bacon isn’t just high in fat, but it is also high in sodium and cholesterol as well. 6. Lastly, donuts should be avoided if you have high blood pressure. Donuts are packed with calories, fat and sugar, all of which have negative effects on our blood pressure. This added sugar has no nutritional benefits for our bodies and can lead to weight gain, along with many of the foods mentioned previously. Being overweight makes your heart work harder, increasing the risk of high blood pressure. It also increases triglycerides as well. As well, since donuts are fried, they are high in both saturated and trans fats. Thank you for watching the video! Please like, comment and share. How I lowered my dad's blood pressure, without drugs or diets ►►http://drsam.co/yt/SeeItYourself ======================================= Top 10 Causes Of High Blood Pressure ======================================= 1. AGE Most people don’t realize that AGE is one of the BIGGEST factors for high blood pressure. I discuss this in my very important article, but what’s important to note is that after the age of 40, 33% of the population has high blood pressure and after the age of 60, over 71% of the population has hypertension! So, if you’re over the age of 40 and have high blood pressure, it may not be your fault. But it IS your responsibility to fix it right away and here is how I lowered my dad’s blood pressure naturally, in just 30 days. 2. GENETICS & FAMILY HISTORY Well, not much can be done here. This is in fact my own problem because I have a family history (on my dad’s side) of hypertension, heart attacks and especially strokes. You can read more about it, include my personal favorite solution that my dad, my family and I use to promote healthy blood pressure levels, naturally! 3. SMOKING Come on people, smoking has NO health benefits. STOP smoking! 4. ALCOHOL A little bit of alcohol is okay, especially if it’s organic red wine. But drinking every night will cause damage to your heart, arteries and liver. Alcohol is a toxic and it’s acidic, both being bad for your body. 5. BEING OVERWEIGHT Similar to smoking, being overweight has no health benefits. And the older you get, the harder it is to lose that unwanted fat. 6. SODIUM Salt has its benefits actually. Regular table salt or salt found in processed foods and packages is BAD for you. However, “natural” salts such as Himalayan rock or Celtic sea salt is GOOD for you and can actually help LOWER blood pressure. I’ll discuss this in a future article. 7. STRESS Well know stress is bad. However, you can’t get rid of it. What’s important is the MEANING you give to stressful situations. If you freak out, get negative and focus on the problem the entire time … you put your body under extra stress. The secret is to focus on the SOLUTION and to know that “this too shall pass” and worrying about the problem isn’t going to help anything… Especially our blood pressure or heart. 8. LACK OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY We sit too much these days. Just get outside and walk daily, even if it’s just for 15-20 minutes. It’ll do wonders for your physical AND mental health! 9. MEDICAL CONDITIONS This goes back to “genetics”. And if you know you have a genetic “problem”, which is making things worse, then you MUST make changes to your life-style because your body is more sensitive than the average person. This is a similar problem with my dad and why he had a stroke. 10. MEDICATION Ironically, many “heart” medications actually cause more heart PROBLEMS in the long run. They can increase your cholesterol, blood sugar or blood pressure levels. They can decrease blood flow and circulation. And they all cause extra stress on your liver and kidneys, which then cause more problems for your heart. Please leave comments and questions here: http://barbaramendeznutrition.com/9-foods-to-lower-blood-pressure appy Monday everyone! Continuing to help raise awareness on the dangers of heart disease during the month of February (Heart Health Month), today’s video is all about the best foods to eat to help lower your blood pressure. A couple of weeks ago I shared a video on 9 Habits to Help Lower Blood Pressure. If you’ve not watched that video, go back and do so because it gives an overview of what lifestyle factors you can embrace to help you manage your blood pressure naturally. Sometimes it’s just a matter of making one or two shifts in your habits that can lead to your success. Food is medicine and medicine is food. There is no distinction and unfortunately, we’ve been taught differently. Through marketing and misleading information, we’ve been told we can eat virtually whatever we want and then, when something goes awry with our health, there is a pill out there that can help us manage it. But all medications come with side effects and sometimes those side effects can mean having to take more and more pills! This never happens when you clean up your diet and use a balanced approach to health. When you change the way you eat and the way you live your life, you not only often get the results you intended, but the side effect is often that you feel and look better too! Once you’ve checked out today’s video, I want to hear from you! Specifically, did you use dietary changes successfully as a means to lower blood pressure? How many of these foods did you include? And have you ever tasted the bonus food mentioned at the end of the video? I would love to hear your feedback. I am wishing you all a happy and healthy week~ xo B

In fact, nearly one third of individuals in the United States either have, or are at risk of developing hypertension. Eating a healthy diet full of vegetables, lean proteins, fruit and whole grains along with exercising can help to lower hypertension. In this video, we will discuss foods you will want to avoid if you have hypertension or want to reduce the risk of developing the ailment. Always discuss with your medical practitioner other treatment and prevention methods in this regard. Now, lets discuss some foods to avoids for hypertension. 1. First, perhaps the most important food to avoid for high blood pressure is salt. High sodium intake can hurt the overall health of our cardiovascular system and increase the risk of developing hypertension and cardiovascular disease. It is often recommended that those individuals at risk of developing hypertension or who already live with it should limit their sodium intake to no more than 1500 milligrams per day. 2. Another food you will want to avoid for hypertension is processed deli and lunch meats. Though they can be convenient at times, these foods are loaded with sodium, which again should be avoided for those individuals at risk for hypertension. These meets are loaded with sodium since they are seasoned and preserved with salt. Just a 2 ounce serving of lunch meats can contain more than 500 milligrams of sodium. 3. Sugar and its effects on our overall health have been discussed in the news quite often as of late. Not only can eating too much sugar cause weight gain and many other health problems, but it has also been linked with hypertension. Those individuals who are overweight are at a higher risk of developing the disease. It is also important to keep in mind that sugar has little to no nutritional value as well. It is often recommended that women eat no more than 6 teaspoons of sugar and men no more than 9 teaspoons per day. 4. Drinking alcohol in excess should also be avoided for hypertension. Consuming too much alcohol has now been associated with high blood pressure. In fact, studies have shown that drinking too much alcohol at a time can cause a temporary spike in blood pressure. As well, drinking alcohol in excess for a period of time can cause long-term increase in blood pressure. Not only that, but since alcohol is metabolized by the liver, it can lead to weigh gain, which again can increase the risk of hypertension. 5. Lastly, canned soup should be avoided for hypertension. Although simple and easy to make, this food choice could have negative effects of our blood pressure. Often marketed or though to be a healthy food choice, these soups are loaded with sodium. In just one serving, some canned soups can have over 800 milligrams of sodium. To lower the sodium intake, try making your own soups with healthy ingredients and a lot less salt. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is unfortunately a common problem throughout the U.S. It is a very serious condition that, if untreated, can lead to heart attacks, kidney failure and strokes. A blood pressure reading is considered high if it goes over 140/90. There are many factors that can contribute to high blood pressure, including: obesity, excessive drinking, stress, birth control pills, kidney disease, adrenal disease and genetic factors. While there are many prescription drugs that help to lower blood pressure, it can also be treated with all-natural remedies. Today’s video will discuss ten home remedies to lower blood pressure. 1. Watermelon Seeds Watermelon seeds contain cucurbocitrin, which is a compound that helps to widen blood capillaries and improve kidney function. In 2010, Florida State conducted a study that showed watermelon can help to lower blood pressure readings. 2. Lemons Lemons remove the rigid nature of the blood vessels and leave them soft and flexible. This, in turn, lowers the blood pressure level. Consuming lemon juice regularly also lowers the change of heart failure because of the high levels of Vitamin C. 3. Bananas Bananas can help to control blood pressure, when consumed on a regular basis. This is because of the high levels of potassium in the bananas that help to lessen the effects of sodium on the body. 4. Garlic Raw and cooked garlic can help lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels by relaxing the blood vessels and increasing the body’s production of nitric oxide and hydrogen sulphide. Consume one or two crushed garlic cloves per day. 5. Coconut Water To those with high blood pressure, it is especially important to keep hydrated. It is recommended that they consume eight to ten glasses each day. Coconut water is helpful in lowering blood pressure. 6. Celery Celery contains chemicals that help to control blood pressure. They relax the muscles in and around the heart and can allow the blood to flow more efficiently. Celery also helps to reduce stress hormones, which lowers blood pressure. Consume one stalk of celery with one glass of water each day. 7. Onion Juice Onions contain antioxidants that lower blood pressure. Simply consume one medium-sized raw onion per day. Alternatively, you can mix ½ teaspoon of onion juice with ½ teaspoon of honey and consume twice per day for one to two weeks. 8. Cayenne Pepper Cayenne pepper prevents platelets from sticking together and therefore, allows blood to flow more efficiently. Simply add cayenne pepper to fruit or vegetable salads, as well as in the dishes that you cook. A little cayenne pepper goes a long way, so just a pinch will do. 9. Fenugreek Seeds Fenugreek seeds contain potassium and fiber that helps to control blood pressure. To use, boil one or two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in water for about two minutes and then strain. Place the seeds into a blender and mix into a paste. Consume the paste twice a day, once in the morning on an empty stomach and once in the evening. Use this remedy for two to three months for best results. 10. Honey Honey calms the blood vessels in the body and lowers blood pressure. Simply consume two teaspoons of honey on an empty stomach each morning. Also, you can mix one teaspoon of honey with one teaspoon of ginger juice and two teaspoons of cumin seed powder. Consume this twice each day for best results. Most importantly, if you suffer from high blood pressure, it is highly recommended that you consult with your doctor and follow their directives. High blood pressure should be taken seriously, as if left on treated, it can have dire consequences. Do you or someone you know have high blood pressure? #1 Tomatoes provide vitamin C, lycopene, and alpha- and beta-carotene. Interestingly, cooking may actually increase the health benefits of this lush fruit because although cooked tomatoes have less vitamin C, their lycopene content is more available. #2 Apples are high in vitamin C and dietary fiber (a medium apple has 4 grams of fiber). According to the researchers from Harvard University, for every 10 grams of fiber you consume, your risk for coronary heart disease drops by approximately 14%, plus, fruit fiber was found to be especially protective. #3 The polyphenols in grapes can help to protect you from heart disease by suppressing the process of atherosclerosis, a type of heart disease resulting in the buildup of low-density lipoprotein in artery walls. This condition can cause a stroke or a heart attack. #4 Oatmeal is high in soluble fiber, that can lower total and LDL cholesterol because it acts as a sponge in the digestive tract and absorbs the cholesterol which is then eliminated from the body. #5 Red cabbage protects against heart disease, largely due to its high concentration of beta-carotene, resveratrol, and vitamin C. According to a study conducted by the Department of Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health, one serving a day of vegetables and fruits, especially those that are high in vitamin C, like cruciferous vegetables, results in a 4% lower risk of coronary heart disease. #6 Bananas have one of the highest potassium contents available. Low potassium levels are associated with a risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, cancer, arthritis, infertility, and digestive disorders. #7 Oranges have the cholesterol-fighting fiber pectin. They are also a good source of potassium, that helps control blood pressure. In one recent study, 2 oranges per day boosted blood vessel health as well as it lowered blood pressure in men. #8 Cantaloupe may prove useful in the treatment of different forms of heart disease because of its anti-inflammatory abilities. Heart disease, including atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), is usually attributed to high levels of inflammation as one of the leading causes. #9 Mango contains a good amount of potassium which increases the fluid level. In addition, the high levels of fiber and vitamin C in mangoes help to lower serum cholesterol levels, specifically Low-Density Lipoprotein. #10 Flaxseeds contain omega-3 fatty acids (the best source), pectins, and dietary fiber to boost heart health. You can take them in milled or ground form to reap the greatest benefit. #11 The potassium, fiber, vitamin C, and B6 found in kale support heart health. An increase in potassium intake along with a decrease in salt (due to its sodium content) intake is the most important dietary change that sufferers of a cardiovascular disease can make to improve their health. #12 Garlic seems to reduce LDL and total cholesterol, especially in people who have high cholesterol. However, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides do not seem to be affected. #13 Walnuts are a good source of omega-3 fats which are beneficial for the heart, particularly when you use these monounsaturated fats in place of trans- and saturated fats. Thus, you raise your “good” HDL cholesterol and cut your “bad” LDL cholesterol. #14 Asparagus boasts two nutrients which help lower LDL blood cholesterol - saponins (nutrients that stop the digestive tract from absorbing cholesterol) and soluble fiber. Asparagus also contains potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure, and vitamin K, that can help with blood clotting. #15 Black beans are packed with heart-healthy nutrients, such as folate (vitamin B9), antioxidants, and magnesium. Additionally, their dietary fiber content helps control both cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Thank you. This was our video with healthy foods for your heart or a heart healthy diet. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE Diet http://bit.ly/2zBsuX4: Eat This BEST FOOD That Will Lower YOUR High Blood Pressure http://bit.ly/2gH0e1y. By starting a few new food habits, including counting calories and watching portion sizes, you may be able to lower your blood pressure and reduce the medications you need to control high blood pressure http://bit.ly/2yNrEJK. Here's how. Track What You Eat http://bit.ly/2xkJQGX Some people are not aware of how many calories they eat and drink each day. They may underestimate how much they eat and wonder why they can’t lose weight. Writing down the foods you eat, including the portion sizes, can let you see the truth about your food intake. You can then start cutting back -- reducing calories and portions -- to lose weight and manage your blood pressure. http://bit.ly/2yMfsaa Avoid Salt (Sodium) A high-sodium diet increases blood pressure in many people. In fact, the less sodium you eat, the better blood pressure control you might have. To lower the sodium in your diet http://bit.ly/2gz074q, try these suggestions: Use a food diary to keep track of the salt in the foods you eat. Aim for less than 2,300 milligrams (about 1 teaspoon of salt) each day. Ask your doctor if you should go lower, to 1,500 milligrams. Read the nutritional facts label on every food package. Select foods that have 5% or less of the “Daily Value” of sodium. Avoid foods that have 20% or more Daily Value of sodium. Avoid canned foods, processed foods, lunch meats, and fast foods. Use salt-free seasonings. Know What to Eat Potassium, magnesium, and fiber, on the other hand, may help control blood pressure. Fruits and vegetables are high in potassium, magnesium, and fiber, and they’re low in sodium. Stick to whole fruits and veggies. Juice is less helpful, because the fiber is removed. Also, nuts, seeds, legumes, lean meats, and poultry are good sources of magnesium. To increase the amounts of natural potassium, magnesium, and fiber you take in, select from the following: apples apricots bananas beet greens broccoli carrots collards green beans dates grapes green peas kale lima beans mangoes melons oranges peaches pineapples potatoes raisins spinach squash strawberries sweet potatoes tangerines tomatoes tuna yogurt (fat-free) What Is the DASH Diet? http://bit.ly/2h6AGIb Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) is an eating plan rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, poultry, nuts, legumes, and low-fat dairy. These foods are high in key nutrients such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, fiber, and protein. The DASH diet can lower blood pressure because it has less salt and sugar than the typical American diet. The DASH diet cuts out desserts, sweetened beverages, fats, red meat, and processed meats. Women who followed the DASH diet for several years reduced their risks of coronary artery disease http://bit.ly/2iAJzgM and stroke. To start the DASH diet, follow these recommendations (based on 2,000 calories a day): Grains: 7-8 daily servings (serving sizes: 1 slice of bread, 1/2 cup cooked rice or pasta, 1 ounce dry cereal) Vegetables: 4-5 daily servings (1 cup raw leafy greens, 1/2 cup cooked vegetable) Fruits: 4-5 daily servings (1 medium fruit, 1/2 cup fresh or frozen fruit, 1/4 cup dried fruit, 6 ounces fruit juice) Low-fat or fat-free dairy products: 2-3 daily servings (8 ounces milk, 1 cup yogurt, 1.5 ounces cheese) Lean meat, poultry, and fish: 2 or fewer servings a day (3 ounces cooked meat, poultry, or fish) Nuts, seeds, and legumes: 4-5 servings per week (1/3 cup nuts, 2 tablespoons seeds, 1/2 cup cooked dry beans or peas) Fats and oils: 2-3 daily servings (1 teaspoon vegetable oil or soft margarine, 1 tablespoon low-fat mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons light salad dressing) Sweets: less than 5 servings per week. (1 tablespoon sugar, jelly, or jam) Ask your doctor or a dietitian to help you start the DASH diet. They can tell you how many calories you need each day to maintain or get to a healthy weight. And then they can help you plan meals with foods you enjoy that meet the DASH guidelines.
