How To Write An Acrostic Poem-Poetry Lesson

03:25
In this video, I show you how to write an acrostic poem. You can be very creative when writing your own acrostic poem, and I just used the word "summer" as an example for this video. Truthfully, you can write acrostic poems that are based off of a single word or multiple words. You can also choose to write words or phrases on each line! The most important thing is that the main word or words are written vertically! The only way you will ever need to teach theme

07:00
More on my blog: http://guidingontheside.blogspot.com/ Broken down into the cognitive steps, students can determine theme with the support of modeling and collaboration. This video shows the strategy for introducing the concept (even though kids in 8th grade were exposed WHAT theme is in prior years, I never assume they were taught HOW to figure it out). After doing this strategy with passing the paper and creating multiple themes, it is simply a matter of reminding students throughout the school year that in order to determine theme you just need to follow these basic steps.

High School Lessons | Spoken Word Poetry

02:22
This is a poem I've been rewriting over and over since my creative writing class sophomore year. I'm happy to finally be able to share it! words // High School Lessons by Chloe Roberts Beyond the binds of textbooks, You learn from the days that seem to strap you tightly into a carousel. Spinning circles of anxiety around a headache, you’re stuck in the pattern of pretending fun feels like dizziness. And when you realize running from responsibilities or yourself only increases the speed, remember how temporary this moment is. You will fall someday, like autumn leaves, and regrow even stronger. Look for those lessons in bonfires under starry nights and red solo cups filled with Sprite and Cola, although your endless laughter would make anyone question otherwise. And when you realize that friends and dark nights make you feel on top of the world, make sure to tell them that their closeness creates a flame in your life that puts shame to the feeble fire pit that you all created. Find lessons in dimly lit classrooms during the hours of coffee and tea. Watch the sleepy sun rise to the soft murmurs of the school band practicing. And when you realize there’s a simplistic tranquility in something like that stop and breathe deeply there. Everyone deserves a break. It hurts but you’ll learn from your aching chest, with a heart that will shatter. Loss will find you, and grieving will take home behind your sleepless eyes. You’ll find that life will provide you with more questions than answers. And when you realize memories are all we have remember the one taken from you; and carry on their kindness when their memory carries heavy on you. I learned lessons. I did. Not from equations, or history books. But from when my heart was beating, or breaking, for a reason. - Instagram: @chloerobs_ Twitter: @chloeerobs ♡ Chloe
