A winner isn't just a person who consistently works hards and delivers results. A winner is a lot more than just that. It is about perseverance, humility, honor and most importantly undying belief in oneself. It's never about being knocked out, but whether you can bounce back up. Listen for yourself from the horse's mouth, ex- Indian Hockey Team Captain, Sandeep Singh. Recognized with the Arjuna Award in 2010, Sandeep Singh is a legendary hockey player who represented India in the 2012 Olympic games where he scored the highest number of goals in the qualifiers. He is known around the world as the fastest drag-flickers of all time with drag speeds of over 145 km/hr which earned him the nickname - ‘Flicker Singh’. He has also led India to victory in many international tournaments. After an accident, he was partially paralysed and spent close to 2 years in a wheel chair. However, not only did Sandeep completely recover but also made a comeback in the Indian Hockey Team. His inspirational story is currently being made into a Bollywood biopic starring Diljit Dosanjh. Business Psychologist Andrew Sillitoe explores why some people rise to the top 20% in their field starting with research into why young people stay engaged with sport throughout their teens. Engaging others to operate at their full potential may be less of a mystery than we think – listen to Andrew’s story about what he learnt on the road playing street hockey and what it takes to create a high performance culture. All TEDxRoyalTunbridgeWells videos recorded by Graham Hobbs, Clockhouse Productions. http://www.clockhouse.co.uk/ When Andrew Sillitoe was 9 his mum bought him a street hockey stick. An unusual gift for an English boy living in the South East of England, but in that moment, his life would never be the same. He is now one of the most recognisable names in the inline hockey scene, both as a player and coach. Andrew studied an MSc in Organisational Psychology from Birkbeck University. He wrote his first book Managing the Mist How to develop winning mind-sets and create high performing teams in 2013. Andrew helps organisations achieve commercial success by creating teams with purpose. He passionately believes that a team with purpose is more innovative, diverse and agile to any organisation. He lives in Royal Tunbridge Wells with his wife Lucie and their two daughters Izzie and Freya. Suggested Step by Step Lesson Sequence: 1. Flashcard Review of Known Letter-Sounds 2. Introduce 1-2 new letter sounds 3. Games to practice (e.g., Bingo, Go Fish, Hockey, etc.)-- see game video" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFFPW9cIxUs 4. Teach any other key concepts (e.g., blending, segmenting, new onsets or rimes) and play games to practice-- incorporate as much spelling as possible 5. High frequency words (I use the "Envelope Method" I developed, very similar to this: http://blog.maketaketeach.com/teaching-sight-words/) 5. Real reading (incorporate repeated reading-- using reader's theatre and funny voices is awesome!) 6. Real writing (just to build momentum...may incorporate simple editing checklist) 7. End with celebration/treat/etc. I need to make videos on picking books at the child's level and doing the envelope spelling method still!
