01:11 The Link between Grain Consumption and Pain: Grain consumption induces an inflammatory state that Dr. Osborn calls “grainflamation”. For those of us with gluten sensitivity, we have an inflammatory response as our body rejects grains. People with allergies to mold may also react. Grains are rich in mold and mycotoxins; toxins created by mold which forms during the bulk storage of grains. Another trigger for inflammation from grains may be the pesticides which are still in/on the grain. One of the chemicals, atrazine, works like an estrogen. In amphibians, the males become females. Glyphosate is a severe toxin on the gut, with a number of effects that contribute to the inflammatory cascade. There is more to grainflammation than gluten. 05:16 Gluten is in More Than Just Wheat: The protein called alpha gliadin, found in wheat, barley and rye, was discovered in 1952 and studied on 10 people, where it was found to be the trigger for celiac disease. Since then, we have discovered over a thousand forms of gluten. Corn and rice, in addition to other grains, have their own family of gluten and you may be reacting to them. Grains are not gluten free. Gluten free grain food products are one of the most concentrated sources of mycotoxins in the American diet. 14:05 Hidden Sources of Gluten: Sometimes meat is injected with something that mimics gluten called microbial transglutaminase. Same is done with cheese and dairy. This may explain why many with gluten sensitivity, are also sensitive to dairy. Sometimes there is gluten contamination during processing or cooking. 20:51 Stripping Away Protective Gut Barriers: In addition, antibiotics have been in use for the past 50 years and its use is on the rise. There are 5 barriers that protect our gut from developing a leak and an autoimmune process. A leak of the gut allows inflammation to travel to the rest of our body. One of those barriers is the microbiome, the bacteria in our gut. Antibiotics and certain classes of blood pressure medication induce leaky gut. Aspirin, Ibuprofen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs strip away one of the other gut barriers, the mucosa that lines the G.I. tract. Other drugs affect gut motility. 38:41 Grain-Besity Cycle: Grain can induce hormonal changes. Your body’s response to inflammation is to create more cortisol. With chronic long term inflammation, it can lead to adrenal burnout. Adrenal failure or burnout leads to the inability to adapt or cope with inflammation and it gets out of control. Our adrenals are our natural inflammatory control system. Excessive insulin production is a side effect of this, causing amplified fat storage. We end up marbleizing our muscle tissue, which creates a fatty muscle, which slows our metabolism. Muscle sets the metabolic rate. Excess weight increases pressure on joints, thus further limiting physical activity and increasing pain.

Today I'm going to talk about an ophtalmic migraine; I'll share with you what it is and how to eliminate it. An opthalmic migraine is different than a normal migraine because there might be some vision trouble. This is why it's also sometimes called a retinal or eye migraine. Some people describe this vision trouble as a light show. This includes bright zig-zag type lines that could be flashing all around a person's vision. Other symptoms could be partial vision loss, blank spots in someone's vision as well as a dimming. I also can't forget about pain in the head as a symptom as well. Usually this pain affects one side of the head and it can be a pulsing pain. This means it comes and leaves or it could be constant. Another sign is that the pain could be worse when a person is exercising or moving around a lot. Lastly there can be some nausea and sensitivity to lights or sound as well. According to WebMD an ophtalmic migraine is brought on by a narrowing of blood vessels and this prevents blood from reaching the eye. Due to the complexity of the brain the truth is the medical community is not 100% certain what causes it. One thing you might be wondering is all this information is great, but how do I stop the pain. This is a good question and one idea that may seem bizarre is called pencil therapy. What you do is take a pencil and bite down on it. Don't bit down really hard, but just a little bit to relax your jaw muscle. If someone sees you do this they might think you have lost your marbles and are crazy. According to the New England Center for Headaches this removes tension and reduces the pain with a headache. I have a question from a subscriber here, "Eric can you give us at least 10 leaky gut guide and treatment mistakes for me to avoid?" I can certainly do that. I made a list of 10 things here and I'm just going to talk about those in brief and explain a few concepts to you about leaky gut and about how to avoid it. Well how to avoid things going pear shaped when you have got leaky gut. The first one is alcohol which I really always talk about when it comes to digestive health. You're really in fantasy land if you think you can even go from mild alcohol consumption if you want to recover from leaky gut. Once your digestive system is in great shape, you got good energy, you've got good sleep, you're feeling really good emotionally and you've got just an awesome sense of wellbeing about you, I've got no problem with alcohol especially if you're a mild drinker. But as soon as you start going into two glasses a day or several times a week alcohol consumption and you've got leaky gut, and you've got a perfect diet and everything else is good and you're exercising and everything's good, forget it. You're not going to recover from leaky gut. That's mistake number one is thinking you can drink even small amounts of alcohol regularly longterm if you've got a gut problem. You've got to fix the gut first. Get that in great shape and then work out how much alcohol you can consume over time. Common sense. So as not to go down that route of leaky gut again. Number two is stress. Alcohol consumption sometimes goes hand in hand with stress. Sometimes people drink more 'cause they're under stress. So unfulfilled lives. Unsatisfied with your occupation or your career. Living in a relationship that's highly stressful or that's not very, giving you what you want. Living in a poor marriage or in a relationship sense it's just not going anywhere. This can create high stress. Having conflict or discord with neighbors or family members. Personal conflict is not good when it comes to wanting to get a good leaky gut. Not good at all. So you need to work out what the stressors are in your life and you need to deal with these stressors. This is very much not spoken about when it comes to leaky gut 'cause it very much undermines your autonomic nervous system. And if you can't get your handle on stress and it keeps working on you and impacting on you, your gut will only go further backwards not forwards. The third one is junk food. So eating takeaway or junk food once a week for example. Many people think that that's quite kosher. That's quite okay to day. Six days of the week I eat great, the one day of the week I eat not so great. If you want to recover from the leaky gut, don't the make the mistake of thinking junk food every now and then is okay 'cause it's not okay. If you want to get your gut in great shape, eat good food all the time. Good dietary choices every day. Four, regular drug taking. Taking paracetamol, taking ibuprofen, taking Advil, taking birth control, taking antidepressants, taking acid blocking medication. If you're on a drug every day or longterm medication, this is a mistake. You need to try and do something about it. With the birth control pill there are other methods or you need to think how can you give your body a break from this pharmaceutical medication because it will undermine your gut function and your hormone system long term. But many of the the drugs often are taken daily for basically stopping symptoms for digestive problems. You can't get a handle on leaky gut if you keep on a drug. So hope that gives you a bit of an insight into 10 things which I see are obstacles when it comes to healing yourself from leaky gut. Recent studies have linked Ibuprofen and other popular over-the-counter pain-killers known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as other common pain killers like Tylenol, with significantly increased risk of cardiac arrest. Wikipedia defines tinnitus as follows: Tinnitus can be perceived in one or both ears or in the head.
