Lucy's motorway driving lesson - Lucy's lessons episode 24

01:39:13
A motorway driving lesson with Lucy shortly after she'd passed her driving test. How to join the motorway, use variable speed signs on a smart motorway and more is all covered in this driving lesson. The motorway begins at 22:10. For more motorway lessons see http://bit.ly/2B1QSGJ This lesson with Lucy highlighted a very important point which is very unusual. It was lucky that I captured such a rare event when I had all my cameras running. At one stage we're unsure of what the speed limit is because the variable speed signs go from 40mph to being blank. Usually a speed sign applies until you see another so we were left wondering what the blank sign meant as we passed several more that were also blank when at least one of them should have said national speed limit. Was the limit still 40 or had it gone back to national? A blank variable speed sign would usually mean the national speed limit applies unless there is a metal sign at the side of the road such as when roadworks are being done. In this case you should stick to the speed limit of the metal sign which would usually be lower. I emailed Highways England (the agency that operates the signs and speed cameras) asking if I had got this right and why we hadn't seen a national speed sign. What happened is that just as we drove under the last 40 sign that you see in this video it changed to a national speed sign. We wouldn't have seen it but everyone behind us did. There was a national sign at the start of the slip road for the cars joining as we're talking about what the speed is. It's always wise to do as we did in this video and keep your speed down until you are sure the speed limit has increased. Usually there are at least two signs, one after the other, showing a change in speed to stop this from happening but that wasn't case here. I also learnt that If the speed limit decreases as you are driving under a sign/camera then the speed cameras won't activate until a set amount of time after the speed has changed. That's only fair otherwise you could be going under a blank sign at 70mph and be caught as it changed to 40mph! They wouldn't say what that amount of time is but that it would be more than enough time for anyone to see the change from any distance and change their speed. Off the record I was advised it may be about 30 seconds. It's all planned so that people with the worst eyesight could still see the sign from as far away as possible so that nobody can be unfairly caught. Highways England assured me that if a sign is blank then it would only enforce the national speed limit anyway. Even if the sign was supposed to say 40 but the signs went 40, 40, blank, 40 then the blank sign would not fine you for going over 40mph even if the others would. I hope this information proves useful to people in the future because it's not nice spending 2 weeks waiting to see if you're going to get a speeding fine. This was over a year ago now and nothing happened because what I said in the video was correct and it had returned to national speed limit. Better safe than sorry. There are some brand new speed cameras on these signs that I didn’t even know about at the time You won’t spot them, they’re hidden out of view which is legal. I checked with police after making this video and they answered the question that Lucy asked; there doesn’t have to be any warning of speed cameras at all because whether or not there are cameras you shouldn't be speeding. ► See the rest of the videos in this series https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz_iw6E6JDFA5monavyG4MB8qaddsDB5x ► Subscribe to my channel by clicking here https://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=1stDrive ► Find out more about me and my driving school at http://www.1stDrive.com

How to use clutch control at T junctions - Lucy's lessons episode 5

01:51:18
This driving lesson starts off with a turn in the road (three point turn) to develop clutch control. We then practice clutch control at T junctions turning left and right, entering and exiting roads. There is more coasting than usual at this stage to allow the pupil more time to set the pedals. Reducing coasting comes later. Tom Elsner, Faculty at Pacifica Graduate Institute, on Alchemical Active Imagination

28:56
Alchemical Active Imagination: An interview with Tom Elsner by Bonnie Bright The brilliant use of alchemy as a symbolic language and process for psychological and spiritual development is arguably one of C. G. Jung’s greatest contributions to the field of depth psychology. While alchemy may appear to be a mystical—and mysterious—domain, Jung developed a powerful and inspired method for accessing it by entering into dialogue with the rich manifestations of the unconscious and applying it to our daily lives for transformation and growth. “True knowledge of oneself is the knowledge of the objective psyche as it manifests in dreams and in the statements of the unconscious,” wrote Marie-Louise von Franz, one of Jung’s closest colleagues. Finding myself intrigued by the idea of tapping into alchemical symbolism, and wanting to know more, I realized there was no better person to share some insights than Tom Elsner, a Jungian analyst and professor of Alchemy at Pacifica Graduate Institute, where Tom is teaching a 3-day workshop on the topic of Alchemical Active Imagination starting March 4.

International Volunteering - Valuable or Vandalism?: Jingting "Lily" Kang at TEDxUND

13:48
Jingting "Lily" Kang, a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame, talks about lessons she learned on a high school service trip to a rural part of China. Though she found meaning in the experience, she was disheartened to learn her work did not make a significant difference in the lives of the people she wanted to help. She urges the millions of Americans who volunteer internationally to remember three principles: Service is not a transaction, service does not mean saving the world, and service requires respect. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. Improving uphill approaches to roundabouts - Lucy's lessons episode 19

01:54:06
We work on improving Lucy's approach to roundabouts that are up hill as well as several other faults. It won't be long until she takes a mock driving test so it's best to get these things sorted first. Nearing the end of her lessons, this is the famous learning plateau stage where the final problems are difficult to iron out and progress can appear to halt. What I say at the start of the video is that since the last lesson we've both had our tests cancelled; my standards check and Lucy's driving test. This is due to reasons that were never explained but it was most likely staff shortages.

Philadelphia movie clips: http://j.mp/1CNw5g6 BUY THE MOVIE: http://amzn.to/tbF71d Don't miss the HOTTEST NEW TRAILERS: http://bit.ly/1u2y6pr CLIP DESCRIPTION: The Beckett family led by Sarah (Joanne Woodward) says a tearful goodbye to Andrew (Tom Hanks) at the hospital. FILM DESCRIPTION: At the time of its release, Jonathan Demme's Philadelphia was the first big-budget Hollywood film to tackle the medical, political, and social issues of AIDS. Tom Hanks, in his first Academy Award-winning performance, plays Andrew Beckett, a talented lawyer at a stodgy Philadelphia law firm. The homosexual Andrew has contracted AIDS but fears informing his firm about the disease. The firm's senior partner, Charles Wheeler (Jason Robards), assigns Andrew a case involving their most important client. Andrew begins diligently working on the case, but soon the lesions associated with AIDS are visible on his face. Wheeler abruptly removes Andrew from the case and fires him from the firm. Andrew believes he has been fired because of his illness and plans to fight the firm in court. But because of the firm's reputation, no lawyer in Philadelphia will risk handling his case. In desperation, Andrew hires Joe Miller (Denzel Washington), a black lawyer who advertises on television, mainly handling personal injury cases. Miller dislikes homosexuals but agrees to take the case for the money and exposure. As Miller prepares for the courtroom battle against one of the law firm's key litigators, Belinda Conine (Mary Steenburgen), Miller begins to realize the discrimination practiced against Andrew is no different from the discrimination Miller himself has to battle against. The cast also includes Antonio Banderas as Andrew's partner, Joanne Woodward as Andrew's mother, and Stephanie Roth as Joe's wife. CREDITS: TM & © Sony (1993) Cast: John Bedford Lloyd, Robert W. Often times at Christmas, we focus on WHO came to the crib… on who came to be with His Majesty, Our Lord and Savior, and His Majestic Virginal Queen Mother, Our Lady. Thus, we often think of St. Joseph, the Shepherds, the Magi as well as the angels. Yet, it seems to me, it would be no less instructive to consider who did NOT come… a sort of via negativa lesson about from the manger. Truly, there is much to learn about Christmas here. A Very Martyr Christmas (Michael Voris)

05:21
The Vortex The great Solemnity of Christmas is finally upon us and how splendid and glorious it is. Traditional hymns and Christmas songs contain great theological lessons within them — individual lines, even, carrying more weight and truth than a typical homily. "Veiled in Flesh Thy Godhead see, hail the Incarnate Deity" from "Hark the Herald Angels Sing." Or how about "Remember Christ Our Savior was born on Christmas day; to save us all from Satan's power when we were gone astray" from "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." What is Christmas other than the initiation of Heaven's great plan to bring about our redemption? Yet so overwhelming is that single thought, so impossible to get our minds around, that God Himself would actually come to save us that it has to be packaged up and presented in the most innocent and simple of presentations — a small little baby. Nothing Heaven does is ever short of stunning. This, however, for us cannot remain the sole disposition — to just stand at the creche and marvel, as marvelous and worthy of being marveled over as it is. During the solemnity of Christmas, the octave or the eight days following, the particular feasts Holy Mother Church proposes for us to contemplate, don't at first seem to have anything to do with Christmas, yet, there they are, nestled right into the very octave itself. The day after Christmas Day is the feast of St. Stephen — the first man martyred for the Faith. Then, we have immediately following him the feast of the Holy Innocents — the male children under two years old butchered by Herod's lust for power. Then, there is two days later, the feast of St. Thomas Becket, murdered at the altar by yet another vicious monarch thirsty for power. Why does Our Holy Mother Church insert such reminders into the very Octave of Christmas itself? Because total offering is what Christmas is all about. It's difficult to keep this in mind amidst all the hubbub of a secularized Christmas where the emphasis has been completely flipped from giving to getting. But this is precisely what Christmas is all about, giving ourselves to that small child who gave up everything, even the visible grandeur of His glory so that He might save us. "Mild He lays His glory by, born that men no more may die, born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth" from "Hark the Herald angels sing," again. So, while you are standing at the creche after Mass this Christmas season offer the most sincere prayer you can of gratitude: Thank you, my sweet Babe, for all You have done to save me. Then immediately follow up with a petition: Take my whole life as you gave yours and as this week's martyrs gave theirs in imitation of You so that I may be joined to You in the great work of Your salvation of saving souls. Christmas is about nothing less than dying to ourselves. God love you — and from the entire staff here at St. Michael's Media and Church Militant, a very blessed, happy and Holy Christmas to all of you and your family and friends.

Roadburn 2017: Baroness' John Baizley on Curating "Hugely Inspiring" Fest

05:16
John Baizley and his band Baroness have a long history with the Netherland’s Roadburn festival, having played it first in 2009, an experience that the singer-guitarist found to be overwhelmingly positive. In the years since then, Baizley has been even more won over by the annual event, which has hosted many of his favorite bands of all time. “It’s just a hugely inspiring and impressive festival,” he enthuses. So last year, when the Baroness frontman was asked to curate the 2017 edition of Roadburn, he jumped at the opportunity. Through the process, he imagined an “alternate version of himself” and challenged himself to book a festival that would keep that hypothetical version of John Baizley engaged for days on end. The resulting bill included cutting-edge artists such as Chelsea Wolfe, Deafheaven, Converge frontman Jacob Bannon’s Wear Your Wounds project and French progressive-rock band Magma, among many others. Baizley also brought a new component to Roadburn: a silkscreened poster art exhibit. “Within the realms of heavy music, there are so many incredible visual artists that work in tandem with a lot of these bands to create the aesthetics and the overarching looks for these underground music acts,”says Baizley, who is himself an accomplished visual artist. “It seemed like it could be a really cool thing that very much fit in line with the philosophy of the bands that I was booking to bring a number of my friends who are visual artists to exhibit their work at Roadburn.” Dubbed “Full Bleed,” the exhibit showcased the creations of Bannon, Richey Beckett, Becky Cloonan, Zbigniew Bielak, Darko Groenhagen, Arik Roper, Marald Van Haasteren, Thomas Hooper and Baizley himself, as reproduced in silkscreens by Burlesque of North America. In the video, Baizley talks about Roadburn, his experience both playing and curating the festival, and his goal of “bringing bands out of obscurity that could have remained entirely obscure forever.” CREDITS: Edited by Jaclyn Sheer: http://www.jaclynsheer.com Video footage courtesy of: Super 208 productions Pamela Strohm Andrea Black Dante Torrieri Photography courtesy of: Pamela Strohm Dante Torrieri

Tom's 25th driving lesson! The final countdown! Once again we changed the original aim from mock test to dual carriageways and slip roads, as he had only done half a lesson on this subject last time. I also added in really BIG hill starts, up and down! And then got him to drive up a VERY steep hill with parked cars on both sides...his worst nightmare!! Didn't he do well?!

Jack wants revenge against Barbossa, who left him stranded on an island before stealing his ship, the Black Pearl, along with 882 pieces of cursed Aztec Gold. Dead Man's Chest (2006) Lord Cutler Beckett of the East India Trading Company arrests Will and Elizabeth for aiding Captain Jack Sparrow in the previous film. Beckett offers clemency if Will agrees to search for Jack's compass in a bid to find the Dead Man's Chest – and inside, the heart of villainous Davy Jones – which would give Beckett control of the seas. However, Jack wants the Chest to escape from an unpaid debt with Jones, who raised the Black Pearl from the seabed (after it was sunk by Beckett) and made Jack captain for 13 years in exchange for 100 years of service aboard Jones' ship. At World's End (2007) Lord Beckett gains power over Davy Jones, and with the help of Jones' ship, the Flying Dutchman, he is now executing his plans to extinguish piracy forever. To stand against the East India Trading Co., Will, Elizabeth, Barbossa, and the crew of the Black Pearl set out to rescue Captain Jack Sparrow from Davy Jones' Locker. As one of the Nine Pirate Lords, Jack is needed in order to summon an ancient goddess with the power to defeat Beckett's forces. On Stranger Tides (2011) Captain Jack Sparrow is on a quest to find the fabled Fountain of Youth and crosses paths with a former lover, Angelica. Joining the hunt is former pirate captain Barbossa, now a privateer in King George II's Navy, who is in a race against the Spanish for the Fountain of Youth. Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) "Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea, including him.
