Video 7 SIP House Construction

25:07
It has finally happened! The construction of our house built from Structural Insulated Panels has begun. In this video, all of the SIP walls and roof are installed. Our wall panels are made of panels which are 6 1/2" thick (5 1/2" Extruded Polystyrene Foam Insulation) sandwiched between two sheets of 1/2" OSB plywood. Our roof panels are 11 1/4" thick using 10 1/4" thick insulation. The whole process takes about 2 weeks which is compressed into this approximately 25 minute video. Contrary to everything I have heard, our SIP house will not be built any faster and it will cost quite a bit more than a standard frame house. However, our future energy savings will far outweigh these costs - especially considering we will be off grid completely. Since some viewers have asked, I'll give credit here to Ferrier Custom Homes in Fort Worth, Texas as the SIP contractor and to Fischer SIPs of Louisville, Kentucky as the SIP manufacturer. I was in error in the video when I said the panels arrived from Tennessee. Hope you enjoy the video.

Simple Living: Building a Low Cost Panel Home (Structural Insulated Panels / SIP)

03:30
http://www.danielunedo.com/ Using painted galvanized steel structural insulated foam panels (SIPs), my awesome brother (the one wearing the hat) put together my 96 square meter (including the large verandah) house in 4 weekends. That's 1033 square feet. The building materials are all readily available and cheap, with the big expense being the concrete foundation that's needed to bolt the panels to. The panels are highly insulated and make for comfortable temperatures inside year round, saving up to 50% on energy costs compared to other building styles. I also chose a cool and breezy mountain-foot site to build. I have 3 solar photovoltaic panels and 2 wind generators for power, connected to a sinewave inverter. I was initially going to make a much smaller house, but quickly realised that the panels were so cheap that adding another room and a large verandah wouldn't increase the cost much at all. If I need more space in the future, I can close the verandah and turn it into another room. Because we didn't use a skeleton frame, the house has to be a bungalow. For multi-storey buildings, a steel skeleton frame is needed. Panels: €11,000 Foundation: €12,000 More information about SIPs here: http://www.eco-panels.com/ (I didn't use this US company as I'm European, but their website is informative)

This is how I put up all of the panels. Fortunately I had help with the bigger panels. The bobcat with makeshift crane were used to put up all of the panels on the 1st and 2nd story. Hired a crane with operator to put up the roof panels. The SIP panels were manufactured by EH Systems of New Braunsfel, TX.

Hybrid Timber Frame Cabin | How Timbers and Panels Go Together | Babcock Ranch, FL

03:50
Take a look at our hybrid timber frame home designs here: http://www.timberbuilt.com/timber-frame-homes/ This video clearly represents our on site timber frame process from start to finish and shows how a hybrid timber frame system is constructed. Structural insulated panels, or SIPs, are foam core OSB walls and roof panels that are locked into place by timbers. Both the panels and timbers provide structural support, resulting in an affordable, energy efficient building envelope. This video shows the precision of our install as we set the timbers into pockets inside the SIPs.

The Cabin

00:48
The Cabin bridges the gap from "green" to gorgeous, with a modest building "footprint" that delivers a rich living feel. The Cabin is designed in a way that takes full advantage of our highly efficient Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs). And it can be built with a minimal heating system, resulting in a reduced carbon footprint. At the same time, The Cabin's architectural elements and materials - timbers, reclaimed wood, metal, and stone - provide a rustic look with a terrific touch of sophistication. From "green to gorgeous", we think The Cabin may be one of our best designs to date.

Doe Bay Cabin Prefab SIPs Box

00:21
Doe Bay Cabin Prefab SIPs Box This modern prefab cabin sits in a beautiful location on Washington’s Orcas Island, a short walk from Doe Bay Resort. It serves as a small getaway home for a couple and their two young children. The challenge was to design a modest cabin in size and cost (but not in character) that will capture the spirit of its surroundings while reflecting the Japanese and Chinese heritage of the owners. Quite a task… The structure is based on a prefabricated structural panel system (SIPs) and the simple form of a box. SIPs are strong, energy efficient and cost effective building panels, consisting of an insulating layer of rigid polymer foam sandwiched between two layers of structural board (for example, sheet metal, plywood, cement or oriented strand board (OSB)). And the best part is, SIPs are manufactured in a factory and can be custom designed for each home. Doe Bay Cabin features an extremely energy efficient envelope – an enclosed box with an impressive 19ft high x 22ft wide window-wall, with unobstructed views, and a roof garden. Inside, a modern-Asian look and feel flows through the 1,050 sq. ft. of living space; from the overall color palette to the large screen room dividers in the downstairs bedroom and the sleeping loft upstairs. The entry is one of my favorite features of this house; a well-planned space, full of natural light, combining red and black colors with natural wood. I love how the bottom stair also serves as a bench, and the charming piece of art depicting two kids surfing the waves. I created this video with the YouTube Slideshow Creator (http://www.youtube.com/upload)

Prefab SmartHomze are Affordable, Net-Zero Energy Kits for Green Living

"Prefab SmartHomze are Affordable, Net-Zero Energy Kits for Green Living " "Structural insulated panel (SIP) manufacturer Vantem Panels is trying its hand at prefabricated homes. The company just launched SmartHomze, a Net-Zero home kit for affordable green living. The comfortable homes come in six sizes, including a small studio-style guest house, and assemble into LEED certified living for around $150 per square foot The Vermont-based company is best know for producing energy efficient urethane panels, but their latest venture sees Vantem assembling their products into prefab homes. With the six available SmartHomze models, the kits can accommodate a wide variety of needs, from a simple free-standing studio apartment to a sprawling three bedroom, two and a half bathroom model which also features a wraparound porch. Many prefabricated homes cost around $200 to $250 per square foot with construction costs, but SmartHomze ranks in at just $150—not including permits, site work or the foundation—making it one of the more affordable options for green, prefab living. Made from Vantem’s Oriented Strand Board SIP panels, the homes are already on the track for LEED certification, with 72 points alone achieved by the panels. In addition to the panels, the kits include exterior wall materials, windows, doors, flooring, HVAC equipment and metal roofing. The kits also include a photovoltaic array for the roof, as well as a heat-recovery ventilator. Appliances, cabinets and plumbing fixtures aren’t included, leaving the aesthetic—and energy efficiency of those components—up to the home owner. "
