All right, so one of the questions you need to be asking is how do I implement the strategy? If I have created a good strategy, then I know how I am going to take the island. I know whether I am going by sea or whether I am coming in on the boat. I have a strategy. I need to know the tools. What kind of boat am I using? What kind of vehicle am I using? What am I going to do when I get there? So in your case, to implement your marketing strategy, you're going to select tools like email, Facebook, maybe newspaper print, maybe radio, maybe television. I highly recommend that you spend a lot of time thinking every time you're doing one of these things thinking to yourself, "Is this implementing the strategy?" because you can get distracted. Tools can, I mean there a lot of, I'll call them shiny objects in the tool world. People will come. They will come up to you and go, "Hey, you should try this to market your restaurant!" and you go "Oh, yeah, I'll go try it." Make sure, make absolutely certain that if you are going to use a tool that it implements the strategy, and here is an example of how you can kind of get off the marketer. Let's say that your, people that are coming to your restaurant are like teenagers or college kids and somebody comes in and says, "Hey! You should put an ad in the Yellow Pages." I know this is pretty blatantly obviously to you, but this is what happens people go, "Oh, yeah, I should get an ad in the Yellow Pages." Now, they are advertising to absolutely no one that's coming to their restaurant because I can guarantee you no college kid or high school kid is ever going to pick up the Yellow Pages. They probably don't even know what they are. Make sure that every tool that you're using implements the strategy. So some of the main tools that you're going to be looking at are email autoresponders. This is a way that you can get someone to join your email list and automatically send them and email, and then on Tuesday it will send them another email, and on Thursday, it will send them another email, and you finally craft the messages that go into these autoresponses, and when somebody joins the autoresponder, there is over a period of time, maybe over a period of years you craft out what messages you are going to send them on email, and once-in-a-while you might just jump in there and send out a particular message that you want right now at this certain given time, but you're going to craft a message. Think about just the way, I don't know, say a McDonald's does their advertising. They're crafting a message to be delivered at certain times and certain areas, and that's what you want to do with something like an email autoresponder. You'll do very similar kinds of things with Facebook or Twitter. You're going to craft a message and these messages and the timing of these messages and the content are all going to basically be dedicated to implementing the strategy. If you ever find yourself doing something with a tool and you can't tie it back to the strategy, it's a waste of time. It's just an activity. You're not moving yourself any further along, so always compare whatever it is you're doing with the tool, with the strategy and you can't go wrong. Good luck.

INDUSTRIAL MARKET SEGMENTATION meaning - INDUSTRIAL MARKET SEGMENTATION definition - INDUSTRIAL MARKET SEGMENTATION explanation. Industrial market segmentation is a scheme for categorizing industrial and business customers to guide strategic and tactical decision-making, especially in sales and marketing. While government agencies and industry associations use standardized segmentation schemes for statistical surveys, most businesses create their own segmentation scheme to meet their particular needs. While similar to consumer market segmentation, segmenting industrial markets is different and more challenging because of greater complexity in buying processes, buying criteria, and the complexity of industrial products and services themselves. Further complications include role of financing, contracting, and complementary products/services. The goal for every industrial market segmentation scheme is to identify the most significant differences among current and potential customers that will influence their purchase decisions or buying behavior, while keeping the scheme as simple as possible (Occam's Razor). This will allow the industrial marketer to differentiate their prices, programs, or solutions for maximum competitive advantage. Webster describes segmentation variables as “customer characteristics that relate to some important difference in customer response to marketing effort”. (Webster, 2003) He recommends the following three criteria: 1. Measurability, “otherwise the scheme will not be operational” according to Webster. While this would be an absolute ideal, its implementation can be next to impossible in some markets. The first barrier is, it often necessitates field research, which is expensive and time-consuming. Second, it is impossible to get accurate strategic data on a large number of customers. Third, if gathered, the analysis of the data can be a daunting task. These barriers lead most companies to use more qualitative and intuitive methods in measuring customer data, and more persuasive methods while selling, hoping to compensate for the gap of accurate data measurement. 2. Substantiality, i.e. “the variable should be relevant to a substantial group of customers”. The challenge here is finding the right size or balance. If the group gets too large, there is a risk of diluting effectiveness; and if the group becomes too small, the company will lose the benefits of economies of scale. Also, as Webster rightly states, there are often very large customers that provide a large portion of a suppliers business. These single customers are sometimes distinctive enough to justify constituting a segment on their own. This scenario is often observed in industries which are dominated by a small number of large companies, e.g. aircraft manufacturing, automotive, turbines, printing machines and paper machines. 3. Operational relevance to marketing strategy. Segmentation should enable a company to offer the suitable operational offering to the chosen segment, e.g. faster delivery service, credit-card payment facility, 24-hour technical service, etc. This can only be applied by companies with sufficient operational resources. For example, just-in-time delivery requires highly efficient and sizeable logistics operations, whereas supply-on-demand would need large inventories, tying down the supplier’s capital. Combining the two within the same company - e.g. for two different segments - would stretch the company’s resources.

Definition: The process of gathering, analyzing and interpreting information about a market, about a product or service to be offered for sale in that market, and about the past, present and potential customers for the product or service; research into the characteristics, spending habits, location and needs of your business's target market, the industry as a whole, and the particular competitors you face. Market research provides relevant data to help solve marketing challenges that a business will most likely face--an integral part of the business planning process. In fact, strategies such as market segmentation (identifying specific groups within a market) and product differentiation (creating an identity for a product or service that separates it from those of the competitors) are impossible to develop without market research. Market research involves two types of data: Primary information. This is research you compile yourself or hire someone to gather for you. Secondary information. This type of research is already compiled and organized for you. Examples of secondary information include reports and studies by government agencies, trade associations or other businesses within your industry. Most of the research you gather will most likely be secondary. When conducting primary research, you can gather two basic types of information: exploratory or specific. Exploratory research is open-ended, helps you define a specific problem, and usually involves detailed, unstructured interviews in which lengthy answers are solicited from a small group of respondents. Specific research, on the other hand, is precise in scope and is used to solve a problem that exploratory research has identified. Interviews are structured and formal in approach. Of the two, specific research is the more expensive.
