Ten Tips for Successful ERP Implementation
These are the Columbus top 10 tips for ERP implementation. For more information go to www.columbusglobal.com Transcript of the interview 10 Tips for successful implementation 1. Define Your Desired Results Kapil Mishra "One of the key risks that customers face in implementing ERP systems is not being able to make an impact on the business bottom line", Steve Weaver "When you are purchasing a new ERP system you need to understand your business, what you do, what you want to achieve, what your processes are, not what you necessarily do today but also where you want to go to what you ultimately want to be and what ultimately want to achieve". 2. Don't Automatically Reuse Old Workflows Steve Weaver "Many people will buy a new ERP system without understanding their business and what they are effectively doing is spending an awful lot of money to replace a like for like system. 3. Map All of Your Business Processes Kapil Mishra "It boils down to building a solid business case right in the beginning being very clear as to what are the bottlenecks in the processes, what are the areas that are a challenge today and which specific areas of the business need to be impacted. This is really a blueprint that should be in place before you start thinking about the IT component of the ERP implementation." Steve Weaver "They need to map their business processes, they need to get the business stakeholders, the end users into rooms to document what they do and as importantly question why they do things." 4. Ensure you have a long term plan for your solution Chris Mean "The best customers that we work with are the ones that think ahead and plan ahead. And plan in optimization stages where together we can partner how to then drive their business forward after initial go live." 5. Make sure you have executive level sponsorship Brian Blood "Constant involvement of senior executives during the project process helps to mitigate the risk of architecting processes in the overall solution that are counter intuitive to the company's overall strategy." 6. Assemble the right project team Chris Braisby "One of the big problems that we often face on projects is that when we are assembling a project team and the customer is putting that project team together then they often put the team that is available, the people that they can most easily spare and not the key people, the key decision makers in the organisation who can understand all the issues, understand where their weaknesses are and also where their current strengths are." 7. Try to standardise and avoid developments Chris Mean "A common reason why an ERP implementation project might fail is that too many developments are identified and approved by the customer. We work very strongly with our customer to try and minimise those developments and one of the techniques you can use is to ensure you have strong board sponsorship about the direction of the project and you have good buy in from the key users about adopting a new solution" 8. Make user training a priority Steve Weaver "Training your core team and training the end users on the ultimate software you are going to use is a necessity. It is generally towards the end of a project and many businesses set a go live date and the part that gets crushed in the timescales is the training and the end user exposure to the system, so the more investment you can make time wise in training ultimately leads to a better go live. 9. Focus on getting the right data into the system Martin Clothier "The key things for data migration are start early, there are no magic bullets, define the migration as a separate project and chose the right people in the business to own the data and test, test and test again as part of user acceptance testing and good data management doesn't stop after go live, it's an ongoing process that needs to be defined." 10. Select the right partner and solution Chris Mean "Choosing the right solution and the right partner for the implementation is key. Often you see people choosing a solution based on cost or even the partner based on cost as well and I think it is important to think how does that solution fit what your business needs? How does it fit your business needs for the future? And how can you work with the partner you have selected. Do they have the same mind set, do they have the same approach and ultimately can you build long term strategic business relationship with them."

Irish govt to double Cork's population with Ireland 2040 replacement migration project
Speaking to Newstalk Simon Coveney said: "Over the next 20-30 years, effectively we want to attempt to double the size of all the cities in population terms outside of Dublin" The 2016 census record Cork City's population at 125,657. Today it was announced the government intend to increase Cork's population by more than 120,000 by the year 2040 as part of the #Ireland2040 project. This will double the population. The government is planning for high density accommodation and more public transport to accommodate the huge increase in population and say Cork is going to become the fastest growing city and the fastest growing region. Richard Chambers travelled to Cork for Newstalk to get the views of the Cork residents. Curiously absent from his reporting was any discussion on the views of Cork residents on the demographic changes that will take place as huge numbers of migrants will be needed to double the population. Where these migrants would come from and what jobs they would fill was not mentioned either. Broadcast The Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk (12/March/18) Simon Coveney clip is from High Noon on Newstalk (16/May/17) http://www.newstalk.com/ According to projections by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) in October, 2017, Ireland’s population growth will come from inward migration, which they expect to average 9,000 people a year up to 2021, rising to 13,000 a year thereafter. This will result in a population of 5.35 million to 5.79 million people by 2030, compared to 4.77 million now. http://archive.is/zKw33 Tánaiste Simon Coveney says that based on current demographic growth, the population of the island of Ireland should reach 8 million around 2030 and as high as 10 million by the mid-century. He proposes that Ireland should, as part of the Ireland 2040 planning framework, put in place a long term strategic infrastructure plan to prepare for an all island population of 10 million people. He also supports a new path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who have been in Ireland for more than 3 years. He wants The Departments of Foreign Affairs and Defence to produce a 20 year strategy for Ireland’s involvement in the UN in a range of areas including peacekeeping, climate change and the protection of migrants and other displaced people. https://www.rte.ie/documents/news/coveney-policy-priorities.pdf http://www.gov.ie/en/project-ireland-2040/ http://npf.ie/

Cloud Migration project delays
Topic: "Cloud Migration project delays" 10 Reasons for the "Cloud Migration project delays" As per the industry reports, only 27% cloud migration projects get completed on time. While there are larger technology issues but many of them point towards communications and coordination issues as well. Cloud migration is a good example of initiatives that are multi dimensional that needs collaborations from business units and channels and also at the same time apply different principles such as risk management, security etc. If the planning phase is well thought out, coordinated, transparent initiative which will lead to a proper end to end impact analysis then the implementation of a cloud migration might be smoother. But not all cloud migration projects are executed that way. Assumed to receive some push backs from certain units within the organization, it often times is executed in silos and decisions are made without consulting with the respective teams. But the reality is successful cloud migration projects might result in reduced stress in certain business units. If the benefits are communicated properly within the respective teams the stakeholders might expect greater collaboration from the units. Reflection – What goes wrong ? Lack of greater emphasis on the planning phase Not doing proper impact analysis with end to end teams Not Choosing the right cloud provider that fits the business process of the particular organization Planning only with applications in mind but missing the business use cases Not coordinating and communicating the benefits with the team Lack of ownership in the end to end process Realization – Lost Opportunities On-time delivery of a project, Increase in implementation cost, Loss of productivity, possibility of adding more gaps Build the Case to Act on it Problem Summary: Cloud migration project delays impacting the overall delivery capability of the company. Goal State: Collaborating with all stakeholders and meeting the project goals on time Acknowledge: Reaching that goal state with a quick fix or a short-cut might be detrimental Get Clarity: Detail discovery of your current process to identify the problems in your current business services & communications Solution: Implement solutions that are very specific to your type of business, customers and employees. App Migration to Azure: Moving your virtual machines from VMware step-by-step guide
Jeff Woolsey, principal program manager from the Windows Server team, explains and demos the steps to discover, assess and migrate Windows and Linux virtual machines from VMware to Azure. The new Azure Migrate service helps you find on-premises VMs and apps using a collector appliance, then exposes VM attributes - including utilization, sizing and dependency information - to help you plan your migration. Azure Site Recovery then provides the tools to replicate discovered and targeted VMs into Azure storage, then allows you to test and move workloads into production. Along the way, Jeff explains how the tools in Azure help you determine costs and take advantage of potential cost savings via the Azure Hybrid Benefit for Windows Server. To learn more, go to the Azure migration center http://www.azure.com/migrate. To see how VMs can be secured and managed once in Azure, check out the recently published "Steps to securing and managing your VMs in Azure" show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAXz8zK8bks. SLIDESHOW - Safer Migration Project (SaMi) - Partnership with F-SKILL
RECOMMENDED TO VIEW IN HQ, FULL SCREEN (A photo & data slideshow originally made for projector presentation at the SaMi booth in Helvetas Day, 27 June 2014) Video contains highlights of the partnership of F-SKILL Pvt Ltd with Safer Migration Project (SaMi) from 2011 till 2014. SaMi is a bilateral initiative of the Government of Nepal and the Government of Switzerland. HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation Nepal and the Ministry of Labour and Employment implement each outcome of the project. SaMi is one of the first comprehensive interventions by a bilateral donor agency in support of labour migrants' rights, particularly in the rural areas. The first phase was a pilot-project of 2-years (2011-2013). The overall goal of SaMi is the safer and more beneficial migration for women and men, who choose to go for migration. The project neither discourages people from leaving, nor does it encourage foreign employment. It provides interested potential migrant workers with accurate and relevant information on the foreign employment process so that they can make an informed decision to go or not to go for the employment; and it enables those who have decided to migrate, to better protect themselves from fraud, exploitation and trafficking widespread in the sector. F-SKILL is in charge of providing vocational skills trainings to encourage semi-skilled (rather than unskilled) migration and linking trainees with job placement providers. Additionally, F-SKILL provides counselling sessions on family management, legal aspects, documents required for foreign employment, information on destination countries (culture, religion, language, climate), money management, future planning for potential migrants. Training is based training in Kathmandu where free training, food and accommodation for the trainees who come from all over Nepal. Welcome Weekend September 2017 // GSC Economic Migration Project
Great South Coast Economic Migration Pilot The 2016 LGSC Alumni have instigated this Pilot in partnership with iGen Foundation and the Great Lakes Agency for Peace and Development (see below). The Pilot aims to encourage metro families to move to western Victoria to assist in driving economic development in our region. Overview The Pilot aims to support a small number of families, originally from Africa, to relocate to the Great South Coast. These families aspire to move to regional areas to gain employment, particularly in agricultural industries, to create a new life for themselves and contribute back to our communities. These families are Australian Citizens who, after living in metropolitan regions for approximately 10 years, wish to move to rural areas similar to where they have come from where their agriculture skill-sets are best placed and utilized. An online interactive database will be established as a platform to match families with employment prior to arrival. Families will be supported locally with links to housing, schools, training providers and service clubs to ensure community integration. This Pilot is based on a case study from Mingoola, NSW that was recently showcased on ABC’s Australian Story. We encourage you to take the time to view the episode. Pilot Partners Leadership Great South Coast – supporting our Alumni to engage in community projects that have direct benefits for our region and align to the Great South Coast Strategic Plan. Lynda Ford, CEO of iGen Foundation – Lynda is an internationally acknowledged specialist in community development with experience spanning non-government, government, industry and public research organisations. Lynda will provide the project with strategic planning and policy advice. Emmanuel Musoni, Great Lakes Agency for Peace and Development and featured on Australian Story, has been crucial to getting this Pilot off the ground and provides the link with the families wishing to relocate.
