MRSA Methicillin Resistant Saphylococcus Aureus - Everything You Need To Know - Dr. Nabil Ebraheim

04:34
Educational video describing the condition of MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Saphylococcus Aureus) infection and treatment. MRSA is a contagious bacteria that mya cause infection. MRSA is difficult to treat because it is resistant to most commonly used antibiotics. The history of MRSA is related to the advent of penicillin. Penicillin was discovered in 1925, isolated in the 19030s and commonly used by the mid-1940s. by the late 1950s there was some resistance to penicillin, so a synthetic alternative was created in the form of methicillin in 1959. MRSA was first recognized in 1961. What makes MRSA resistant? When penicillin is able to bind to the binding protein of the cell wall, disruption of the cell walla and destruction of the bacteria is possible. However, if staph aureus acquires the mecA gene, then it can alter the penicillin binding protein, making the bacteria resistant to all penicillin. Where does MRSA occur? The infection can occur in different parts of the body. Approximately 1/3 of all people carry MRSA harmlessly in the nose, throat, or in the skin. The primary way of transmitting MRSA is through direct contact with another person, object that has it, or from sneeze droplets of an infected person. 30% of staph bacteria live in the nose. Symptoms of MRSA infection •Skin infection (most common) •Maybe mild infection of the skin such as a boil or sore •May also develop to become a significant infection such as necrotizing fasciitis •It can be life-threatening if the bacteria travel into the bloodstream. Possible severe symptoms •Fever •Fatigue •Pain •Swelling of the affected area •Drainage of a surgical wound Also may cause •Pneumonia •Urinary tract infection Health professionals call it the “superbug”, since MRSA is hard to treat. MRSA may also develop resistance to vancomycin, which is supposed to be the best treatment for the MRSA bacteria. It is a constant battle when dealing with MRSA and doctors are developing new antibiotics to deal with the changing resistance of the bacteria. MRSA typically occurs in people with weak immune systems. It occurs in hospitals, nursing homes, intensive care units, surgical wounds and implanted devices. Community-associated MRSA: MRSA is seen more in the younger population even in children and may show up otherwise healthy individuals who have not received any type of hospital care (didn’t get it from the hospital). Also may be seen in athletes and military personnel. Diagnosis MRSA is diagnosed by examining a swab or culture. Internal infections may need to have a blood culture done. How is MRSA treated? •The standard treatment for skin infections is oral antibiotics given for 7-10 days. •In addition to antibiotics, drainage of the infected abscess may be done with a needle or with a small incision. •Never drain the abscess or boil on your own as this may worsen the infection. •The best treatment is proper hand washing •Treatment of severe infections may need to be done in a hospital with IV antibiotics such as vancomycin. •Treatment for patients with nasal colonization but no infection is 2%mupirocin ointment applied to nares 2-3 times a day. Mupirocin Irrigations

01:12
In some patients who suffer from chronic sinusitis and recurrent thick nasal drainage and crusting despite maximal medical therapy and sinus surgery, topical high volume antibiotic irrigations can be beneficial. There is some evidence that when bacterial cultures from infected sinuses show certain types of bacteria, mupirocin dissolved in a high volume saline irrigation may help resolve the infection without the need for oral antibiotics. One important characteristic of mupirocin is that it will treat MRSA-related sinus infections (resistant form of Staph bacteria). The best levels of evidence for mupirocin irrigations come from patients who have already had sinus surgery, again highlighting that high volume irrigations are of main benefit only after the sinuses have been surgically opened. Generally the mupirocin irrigations are performed twice daily and continued for about a month. This video illustrates how to formulate the mupirocin + saline solution in a high volume squeeze bottle. The mupirocin ointment tube is divided into fourths (by drawing 3 lines on tube). A quarter of the tube is emptied into 240 mL of saline, and this must be mixed vigorously to dissolve it completely (can take 3-5 minutes!). This formulation creates a 0.05% solution which is the concentration for which the best levels of evidence in the literature support.

http://bit.ly/Free-BoilX ^ Discount Link Treatment for Boils Boils are bumpy, red, pus-filled lumps around a hair follicle that are tender, warm, and very painful. They range from pea-sized to golf ball-sized. In a severe infection, an individual may experience fever, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue. Boils are usually caused by a bacterial staph infection on the skin. The bacteria starts colonizing in the hair follicles and causes inflammation. The most common complications of boils are scarring and infection or abscess of the skin, spinal cord, brain, kidneys, or other organs. Infections may also spread to the bloodstream and become life-threatening. A small boil may burst and drain on its own without any assistance. In some instances, however, draining can be encouraged by application of a cloth soaked in warm salt water. Washing and covering the boil with antibiotic cream or oil and a bandage also promotes healing. Boils should never be squeezed without the oversight of a doctor because it may spread the infection. Antibiotic therapy is advisable for large or recurrent boils or those that occur in sensitive areas. The fastest treatment for boils with the most lasting results is a homeopathic oral spray called BoilX. BoilX is safe for adults and children 12 and older and is applied by spraying the formula under your tongue three times a day. HOW TO GET RID OF BOILS OVERNIGHT

HOW TO GET RID OF BOILS OVERNIGHT Are you Ready To Get Rid Of Your Acne Once And For All? Discover the Ebook on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2oTSedQ The boil is a skin infection that begins in an oil gland or hair follicle. A skin spot begins with the irritation that turns red, then a tender lump appears with the pus in the middle. Normally, treatment of the boils is done by draining out pus from the lumps and taking anti-biotics. Applying some topical ointment on the boil is usually done by people. There are more quick result fetching methods through effective home remedies that can provide an early relief to the boils. 1. Onions Cut thin slice of onion and put it on the infected area and tie it up Let it be there for 3-4 hours then change with a fresh onion slice. Repeat it for few days. Repeat for 3-4 times in a day. Another way is to put some onion slices in water and boil it to half 2. Garlic Garlic also has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties that make it one of the best home remedies for treating boils. Increase garlic quantity in your daily diet for added results. Apply its paste on the affected portion; you can also add few drops of olive oil to get a paste consistency. After applying a layer, cover it with some gauze or medical tape, so it gives full benefit to the suffering boil. Leave it for 2-3 hours, then change the garlic paste, apply for 3-4 times in a day, till the boil bursts and cured. 3. Warm Water Compresses Warm water is the first thing that should be tried on boils for reducing pain and preparing the pus to ooze out soon. Take warm water and soak compress and apply on the boils with soft hands. Idea is to draw out the pus fast and provide relief from itchiness and pain. Once the boil gets whiter in color it means it is ready to burst, the soaking helps to achieve that stage fast. When it begins to ooze out use antibacterial soap to wash off the pus and then apply alcohol by rubbing or any topical antibiotic ointment. 4. Neem Its oil is one handy way to reap its benefits. It can be safely and effectively applied on the boil-affected area. It can provide relief from itch, irritation, and pain. It helps to draw out pus on top, thus speeding up its recovery. The paste made with grinding neem leaves with water is also very effective, if applied thrice a day on the affected part. Dab neem oil on the boil 3-4 times a day 5. Turmeric Mix turmeric powder with water and make a paste, apply this paste with help of gauze on the infected area. Cover it with a bandage or tape for 30 minutes, then rinse it with water, repeat few times a day for best results. You can mix with the curd too for making the paste. Mix half spoon of turmeric with warm milk and drink, it will heal from inside, because of its antibiotic properties. 6. Tea Tree Oil Wash the boil area with medicated soap and warm water. Use a cotton ball with few drops of tea tree oil and apply on the boil. For better result cover it up with a bandage for couple of hours. Use 3-4 times in a day for better result. He also has had several small abscesses pop up during the last month. We've cultured them and gotten back MRSA each time. Needless to say, he's taking a sulfa drug daily and we've begun nasal bactroban ointment therapy. Diabetics are more likely to become staph colonizers. "Denver" has two abscesses that need to be drained and we were able to schedule some extra time to do them both. Special thanks to Gonzo and Coconut for their help in making this video! Weight loss solution-Help yourself! buyintelligently.com Impetigo is a common type of skin infection. It is generally caused by one of two bacteria: group A streptococcus or staphylococcus aureus. Impetigo usually touchs preschool and school-age children. It is most commonly found children age 2--6 years. The infection is spread by direct contact with lesions or with nasal carriers. A child may be more likely to develop impetigo if the skin has already been irritated or injured by other skin problems, such as eczema, poison ivy, insect bites, or a skin allergy to soap or makeup. Impetigo starts as a red sore that quickly ruptures, oozes for a few days and then forms a yellowish-brown crust that looks like honey or brown sugar. The disease is highly contagious, and scratching or touching the sores is likely to spread the infection to other parts of the body. RELATED ARTICLES Scabies - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment Methods Cellulitis Causes Symptoms Information With Treatment Impetigo may develop when open skin lesions (such as insect bites or burns) are infected following exposure to a person with streptococcal pharyngitis ("strep throat"). Impetigo begins as a cluster of small blisters that increase and split within the first 24 hours. The thin yellow fluid that drains from the ruptured blisters quickly dries forming a honey-colored crust. Impetigo may affect skin anywhere on the body but commonly occurs around the nose and mouth, hands, and forearms. People who suffer from cold sores have shown higher chances of suffering from impetigo. Treatment depends on the extent and severity of the infection. Use soap and water when bathing your child, and pay special attention to cuts, rashes, insect bites and allergic reactions. Ads by Google Good hygiene practices, such as regular hand washing, can help prevent impetigo. Topical or oral antibiotics are usually prescribed. Oral antibiotics are recommended if the infection is extensive, proving slow to respond to topical antibiotics, or if the impetigo is recurrent. An antiseptic (povidone iodine, hydrogen peroxide cream, chlorhexidine and others) or antibiotic ointment (fucidic acid or mupirocin) is prescribed, apply it at least three times a day to the affected areas and surrounding skin. Minor cuts and scrapes should be thoroughly cleansed with soap and clean water. Impetigo is contagious, so avoid touching the draining (oozing) lesions. Always use a clean washcloth and towel each time. Do not share towels, clothing, razors, and so on with other family members. Impetigo Treatmen and Pevention Tips 1. Treatment for Impetigo

►► http://howtocureimpetigo.tamoev.com ◄◄ THE ONLY NATURAL WAY TO CURE IMPETIGO IN ONLY 3 DAYS OR LESS THAT REALLY WORKS!!! Treatment for Impetigo Impetigo is a skin disease or infection, which is caused by bacteria known as staphylococcal or streptococcal and is contagious. This skin disease is first known in 14th century that creates a yellowish crust and some pustules on our skin. It usually appears like a sore irritation and primarily occurs on the upper lips. A virus called herpes simplex, which easily spreads with direct contacts and are common in children, causes this skin infection. Parents should be attentive enough in watching their children especially during warm weather where impetigo is more prevalent. This skin infection is contagious and can complicate chickenpox, eczema or other skin conditions. As per doctors, antibiotics (either pills or injections) can treat impetigo. These antibiotics if taken within 7 to 10 days will generally clear up impetigo. Oral antibiotics include erythromycin, cephalexin and penicillin. The safest antibiotic to use somehow is Mupirocin or Bactroban. Using over-the-counter antibiotics like Neosporin or Bacitracin is not recommended because these antibiotics do not seem much more effective. The process of treating impetigo usually involves washing it with soap and water and let it dry in the air. After such, you may use bactericidal ointment like fusidic acid. Make sure that you dissolve the scabs with the ointment since bacteria lives underneath them. It is advised that you should take the process immediately as soon as you noticed your child has the symptoms of impetigo to avoid infections. There are two types of impetigo. One is the Non-bullous impetigo caused by staphylococcus and streptococcus (two types of common bacteria). This type is usually visible first on the face and nose. May affect also legs and arms as well, appears as small blisters and eventually forms into yellowish, honey-colored crusts. This is the common form of impetigo. The second type is called Bullous Impetigo that is caused only by staphylococcus bacteria and is toxic. It separates epidermis and lower part of the skin, which forms into blisters (Bulla). Although blisters may occur in different parts of the body, patients need not to worry about it since it will just leave your skin a slight redness afterwards. Impetigo also appears to be like ringworms or scabies. Therefore, if you noticed some of these skin infections immediately apply the necessary process and take the prescribed medicines. natural impetigo cure natural impetigo treatment impetigo cures natural impetigo cures fast impetigo cure cure impetigo naturally impetigo cure natural cure impetigo cure impetigo cure for impetigo impetigo treatment natural natural cures impetigo natural treatment impetigo treat impetigo naturally natural ways to cure impetigo natural treatments for impetigo natural cures for impetigo natural remedies impetigo natural cure for impetigo natural treatment for impetigo

Impetigo - What Is It, What Causes It and Is It Just a Cold Sore?

01:37
►► http://howtocureimpetigo.tamoev.com ◄◄ THE ONLY NATURAL WAY TO CURE IMPETIGO IN ONLY 3 DAYS OR LESS THAT REALLY WORKS!!! Impetigo - What Is It, What Causes It and Is It Just a Cold Sore? The two types of bacteria that cause the very contagious skin infection, impetigo, are staph and strep. Kids between the ages of two and six are most likely to have it appear on them. In it's early stages it looks innocent enough. It can start from something as simple as a tiny scratch or a sore that looks akin to a fever blister. A blister is then formed and it begins to secrete a brownish-yellow covering. It then has the ability to spread to others through use of their personal items. This can be things like washcloths, clothes, telephone or kitchen utensils. This skin condition can appear as one of two types, non-bullous and bullous impetigo. The type that is most often encountered is the non-bullous strain. This is the type that is caused by staph and strep and is characteristic of the brownish-yellow blisters. Bullous is only caused by the staph bacteria and is characteristic of breakages in the skin. Staphylococcus and streptococcus bacteria are normally harmless until they are able to find a break in the skin where they inevitably enter and end up causing infection. Things you should be worried about are insect bites, burns or skin that has already been invaded by other types of infections. So watch out when you see that poison ivy or chickenpox! If you suspect your child may have acquired it then get to the family doctor as soon as possible and stop sharing household items. They might take a sample from the blister with a cotton swab in order to test it. Ok, I understand what impetigo is, but is it the same as a cold sore or fever blister? It can be tough to tell the difference between impetigo and cold sores as they share many common symptoms: appearance, can look like blisters, crust over as they heal, and are located around the mouth. On the other hand, cold sores (or fever blisters) are skin infections caused by a virus (the herpes simplex virus), and look like small reddish blisters. They are most often found on the corners of the mouth or around the lips. They normally go away on their own over a couple of weeks, developing scabs as they heal. Since cold sores are also spread by touching or direct contact with affected area, make sure not to kiss, or share glasses, eating utensils, towels, or washcloths with someone if you have cold sores. Unlike impetigo, cold sores can be painful, especially during the first few days of appearance. What can I do to help impetigo? Your treatment plan will vary depending on which type of impetigo your baby has acquired, how severe it is and age. Things that are common in treatments are antibiotics (oral and topical) and specific measures at covering hygiene. If the infection is just minor it really can be treated by keeping the wound clean as a result of washing it 2 to 3 times a day with soap and water. If the infection is really crusty then it is a good idea to keep it soaked with warm water or make a compress with saline solution. Make sure that you keep your childs fingernails cut nice and short to discourage scratching the problem area. The doctor is likely to prescribe some antibiotics such as bactroban. You can also try some herbs to help fight it from the inside out. Extract of African Potato, Mentha Piperita and Buchu all help to keep the immune system healthy and strong. Cleavers and Red Clover can be mixed together, with specific homeopathic ingredients, into a tincture that helps to heal the skin. What can I do to help a cold sore or fever blister? While there is no cure or vaccine at this time, there are things you can do to ease the pain of cold sores, speed up their healing, and stop their spread. For pain, you can apply ice to the area or take over-the-counter pain medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Take 4 500mg Lysine at first sign of a cold sore. Take 1 each morning and 1 each evening for a few days and if caught early enough it will not progress but go away completely. If not caught early enough it will greatly reduce the amount of time for the outbreak and make the severity less. Lysine is very inexpensive and can be found in the vitamin section. natural impetigo cure natural impetigo treatment impetigo cures natural impetigo cures fast impetigo cure cure impetigo naturally impetigo cure natural cure impetigo cure impetigo cure for impetigo impetigo treatment natural natural cures impetigo natural treatment impetigo treat impetigo naturally natural ways to cure impetigo natural treatments for impetigo natural cures for impetigo natural remedies impetigo natural cure for impetigo natural treatment for impetigo

Outsmarting Bacteria: Confronting Antibiotic Resistance

01:04:23
"The time to act is now — before we lose these "miracle" drugs for good. We need to think twice each time we plan to give an antibiotic course" Associate Professor Tom Gottlieb Antibiotics are invaluable therapeutic agents that have saved many lives. They usually kill bacteria or stop them from multiplying so that the immune system can mount a response to fight the infection. They should only be used to help fight infection when the immune system needs extra help to overcome the invading organisms. There is growing concern that many bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics due to the widespread presence of antimicrobial drugs in the biosphere. There have also been fewer discoveries of new antibiotic drugs and a serious problem of antibiotic overuse. The widespread overuse of antibiotics is believed to have led to an increasing problem of multi-resistant bacterial pathogens in both hospital settings and increasingly in community settings. This program looks at: ways to prevent antibiotic resistance; antibiotic resistance and the three keys to control; antimicrobial 'stewardship' , surveillance and infection control; hospital and clinic procedures and policies which can assist with antibiotic usage; the principles of antibiotic use - the Antimicrobial Creed; prophylactic, empirical and directed therapies; antibiotic use in the General Practice setting- including appropriate prescribing and patient education and compliance; the evidence-based Therapeutic Guidelines on antibiotic use; and where to get advice and assistance. http://howtocureimpetigo.tamoev.com ◄◄◄ THE MOST EFFECTIVE NATURAL CURE FOR IMPETIGO THAT EXISTS AND REALLY WORKS!!! Get Educated on Bacteria or Impetigo and Children Impetigo, a superficial bacterial skin infection, is one of the most common contagious infections affecting adults and especially children who have direct contact with other infected skin or objects such as toys, household goods, clothing and linens. RELATED ARTICLES General Health Tips The Impact of Peak Flow Meter Training in Enhancing Self-Efficacy of Asthmatic Children Digestive Health Supplements Symptoms Acid Reflux In Children - Acid Reflux While Pregnant - For Relief When there is a break in the skin from a bug bite, small cut or skinning of elbow, microscopic bacteria can get below the surface, growing and creating a blíster. This blíster fills with fluid called pus and bursts, leaving a crust. While impetigo may be painful and itchy, it is easy to treat and scarring is rare. Impetigo is caused by two types of bacteria: staphylococcus (Staph) and streptococcus (Strep) bacteria. Both of these bacteria forms are commonly found on the skin surface as well as in the environment. While impetigo can manifest itself anywhere on the body, it usually appears in the form of sores or blisters on the hands, neck, face and in the diaper area of young children. There are two types of blisters: 1. Non-bullous impetigo -- This form is more common and is found on the face, usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus. These blisters start out small and resemble bug bites but within one week, they turn into small blisters that scab over with a honey-colored crust. 2. Bullous impetigo -- This form of impetigo can be found on the buttocks and the trunk of the body. Large, yellowish fluid fills the fragile blisters. If and when they break, the skin is red and raw, leaving a crust. The edges of the rash are usually rough and can be jagged or sharp. Sometimes, it can be painful and itchy but rest assured, impetigo blisters will eventually heal. Children are commonly infected with impetigo if they have other skin issues such as eczema, hives, and insect bite. This is especially true for children between the ages of two and seven. Repetitive itching can turn into infection and finally into impetigo. It is important to note that impetigo is easy to treat using a prescription-strength antibiotic ointment mupirocin found in brands such as Bactroban. This is typically used on small areas of impetigo breakout. Nonprescription topical antibiotic ointments are not always effective. Oral antibiotics are typically prescribed for multiple areas of infection or extreme cases. Ads by Google Because many bacteria are forming resistance capabilities to antibiotics, culture tests may be given to determine the proper oral antibiotic prescription for each case. Antibiotics containing penicillin have been proven helpful. Whatever the treatment, it is highly recommended to follow the instructions for use for the full term to prevent further infection. Once the blisters begin to heal, redness may continue for a few weeks but scarring is rare. Also, it is a good idea to wash the infected area each day with antiseptic soap. This will loosen the crusty areas. To prevent impetigo from reaching other areas of the body, wash your hands frequently and bathe or shower regularly. A physician will give additional instructions that could include covering areas with medical tape and gauze or a loss plastic bag. Nails ought to be kept clean and short. Should an infection persist after three days of treatment or a fever continue, then contact a physician immediately. Also, if the rash becomes hot and sensitive to the touch then you will need to see a doctor as soon as possible. If there are others in the home who are not infected with impetigo, then have them use antibacterial soap, hot water and separate towels and linens. To prevent future outbreaks in your home, school or office, practice routine hand washing with soap and hot water. treatments for impetigo ways of getting rid of stress the best way to get rid of stress home remedy impetigo i have impetigo home remedies for impetigo infection effective ways to get rid of scars way to get rid of stress natural ways to get rid of stress best way to treat impetigo best cure for impetigo ways to get rid of stress home remedy treatment get rid of itchy rash skin infections impetigo home remedies for impetigo on face impetigo home remedies home remedies for impetigo in children home remedies treatment impetigo symptoms in children to get rid of stress

Medtopper's notes: Staphylococcus aureus part 3

05:50
Staphylococcus aureus (also known as golden staph) is a gram-positive, round-shapedbacterium that is a member of the Firmicutes, and it is a member of the normal flora of the body, frequently found in the nose, respiratory tract, and on the skin. It is often positive for catalase and nitrate reduction and is a facultative anaerobe that can grow without the need for oxygen.Although S. aureus is not always pathogenic (and can commonly be found existing as a commensal), it is a common cause of skin infections including abscesses, respiratory infections such as sinusitis, and food poisoning. Pathogenic strains often promote infections by producing virulence factors such as potent proteintoxins, and the expression of a cell-surface protein that binds and inactivates antibodies. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains of S. aureus such as methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) is a worldwide problem in clinical medicine. Despite much research and development there is no approved vaccine for S. aureus. a facultative anaerobic, gram-positive coccal (round) bacterium also known as "golden staph" and "oro staphira". S. aureus is non-motile and does not form spores. In medical literature, the bacterium is often referred to as S. aureus, Staph aureus or Staph A..S. aureus appears as staphylococci (grape-like clusters) when viewed through a microscope, and has large, round, golden-yellow colonies, often with hemolysis, when grown on blood agar plates.[16] S. aureus reproduces asexually by binary fission. Complete separation of the daughter cells is mediated by S. aureusautolysin, and in its absence or targeted inhibition, the daughter cells remain attached to one another and appear as clusters. S. aureus is catalase-positive (meaning it can produce the enzyme catalase). Catalase converts hydrogen peroxide (H 2O 2) to water and oxygen. Catalase-activity tests are sometimes used to distinguish staphylococci from enterococci and streptococci. Previously, S. aureus was differentiated from other staphylococci by the coagulase test. However, not all S. aureus strains are coagulase-positive and incorrect species identification can impact effective treatment and control measures. Staphylococcus is different from the similarly named and medically relevant genusStreptococcus. Natural genetic transformation is a reproductive process involving DNA transfer from one bacterium to another through the intervening medium, and the integration of the donor sequence into the recipient genome by homologous recombination. S. aureus was found to be capable of natural genetic transformation, but only at low frequency under the experimental conditions employed.Further studies suggested that the development of competence for natural genetic transformation may be substantially higher under appropriate conditions, yet to be discovered

Dermatitis Treatment Natural visit http://fumix.info/psoriasis for What is Dermatitis Treatment Natural. Dermatitis, also known as eczema, is inflammation of the skin. It is characterized by itchy, erythematous, vesicular, weeping, and crusting patches. The term eczema is also commonly used to describe atopic dermatitis also known as atopic eczema. In some languages, dermatitis and eczema are synonyms, while in other languages dermatitis implies an acute condition and eczema a chronic one.The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent skin conditions. These include dryness and recurring skin rashes that are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin swelling, itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. Areas of temporary skin discoloration may appear and are sometimes due to healed injuries. Scratching open a healing lesion may result in scarring and may enlarge the rash. The term "eczema" refers to a set of clinical characteristics. Classification of the underlying diseases has been haphazard and unsystematic, with many synonyms used to describe the same condition. A type of eczema may be described by location (e.g. hand eczema), by specific appearance (eczema craquele or discoid), or by possible cause (varicose eczema). Further adding to the confusion, many sources use the term eczema for the most common type of eczema (atopic dermatitis) interchangeably. The European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) published a position paper in 2001, which simplifies the nomenclature of allergy-related diseases including atopic and allergic contact eczemas.[14] Non-allergic eczemas are not affected by this proposal.Dermatitis symptoms vary with all different forms of the condition. They range from skin rashes to bumpy rashes or including blisters. Although every type of dermatitis has different symptoms, there are certain signs that are common for all of them, including redness of the skin, swelling, itching and skin lesions with sometimes oozing and scarring. Also, the area of the skin on which the symptoms appear tends to be different with every type of dermatitis, whether on the neck, wrist, forearm, thigh or ankle. Although the location may vary, the primary symptom of this condition is itchy skin. More rarely, it may appear on the genital area, such as the vulva or scrotum.Symptoms of this type of dermatitis may be very intense and may come and go. Irritant contact dermatitis is usually more painful than itchy. Although the symptoms of atopic dermatitis vary from person to person, the most common symptoms are dry, itchy, red skin. Typical affected skin areas include the folds of the arms, the back of the knees, wrists, face and hands. Dermatitis herpetiformis symptoms include itching, stinging and a burning sensation. Papules and vesicles are commonly present. The small red bumps experienced in this type of dermatitis are usually about 1 cm in size, red in color and may be found symmetrically grouped or distributed on the upper or lower back, buttocks, elbows, knees, neck, shoulders, and scalp.[18] Less frequently, the rash may appear inside the mouth or near the hairline. The symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis on the other hand, tend to appear gradually, from dry or greasy scaling of the scalp (dandruff) to hair loss. In severe cases, pimples may appear along the hairline, behind the ears, on the eyebrows, on the bridge of the nose, around the nose, on the chest, and on the upper back.[19] In newborns, the condition causes a thick and yellowish scalp rash, often accompanied by a diaper rash. Perioral dermatitis refers to a red bumpy rash around the mouth.
