FreeStyle® Libre Approved in the U.S.

00:23
Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre system is a revolutionary system for the millions of adults with diabetes in the United States. FreeStyle Libre system eliminates the hurdles of traditional glucose monitoring by removing the need for routine finger sticks and finger stick calibrations. With the approval of Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre system by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, people with diabetes in the U.S. are able to measure glucose levels through a small sensor applied to the back of the upper arm. The sensor, which is the size of two stacked quarters, provides real-time glucose readings for up to 10 days, both day and night . The sensor can also read glucose levels through clothes , making testing discreet and convenient. The FreeStyle Libre system provides people with diabetes three key pieces of data with each scan: a real-time glucose result, an 8-hour historical trend, and a trend arrow showing the direction their glucose is going. The touch-screen reader holds up to 90 days of data, which allows people to track their glucose levels over time. Across the globe, more than 400,000 people are now using the FreeStyle Libre and the system has been clinically proven to be accurate, stable, and consistent , . RELATED VIDEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtsPYr3tctQ INDICATIONS AND IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION The FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring system is a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device indicated for replacing blood glucose testing and detecting trends and tracking patterns aiding in the detection of episodes of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, facilitating both acute and long-term therapy adjustments in persons (age 18 and older) with diabetes. The system is intended for single patient use and requires a prescription. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Remove the sensor before MRI, CT scan, X-ray, or diathermy treatment. WARNINGS/LIMITATIONS: Do not ignore symptoms that may be due to low or high blood glucose, hypoglycemic unawareness, or dehydration. Check sensor glucose readings with a blood glucose meter when Check Blood Glucose symbol appears, when symptoms do not match system readings, or when readings are suspected to be inaccurate. The FreeStyle Libre system does not have alarms unless the sensor is scanned, and the system contains small parts that may be dangerous if swallowed. The FreeStyle Libre system is not approved for pregnant women, persons on dialysis, or critically-ill population. Sensor placement is not approved for sites other than the back of the arm and standard precautions for transmission of blood borne pathogens should be taken. The built-in blood glucose meter is not for use on dehydrated, hypotensive, in shock, hyperglycemic-hyperosmolar state, with or without ketosis, neonates, critically-ill patients, or for diagnosis or screening of diabetes. Review all product information before use or contact Abbott Toll Free (855-632-8658) or visit www.freestylelibre.us for detailed indications for use and safety information. ______________________ Fingersticks are required for treatment decisions when you see Check Blood Glucose symbol, when symptoms do not match system readings, when you suspect readings may be inaccurate, or when you experience symptoms that may be due to high or low blood glucose Based on the sensor being replaced once every 10 days, and scanned at least once every 8 hours The reader can capture data from the sensor when it is within 1cm to 4cm of the sensor Data on file. 🇺🇸 Fast food, Fat profits: Obesity in America | Fault Lines

Obesity in America has reached a crisis point. Two out of every three Americans are overweight, one out of every three is obese. One in three are expected to have diabetes by 2050. Minorities have been even more profoundly affected. African-Americans have a 50 per cent higher prevalence of obesity and Hispanics 25 per cent higher when compared with whites. How did the situation get so out of hand? On this week's episode of Fault Lines, Josh Rushing explores the world of cheap food for Americans living at the margins. What opportunities do people have to eat healthy? Who is responsible for food deserts and processed food in American schools? Fault Lines finds food revolutions taking place and speaks with the people that are fighting back. People featured in this film: Marion Nestle, Marlene Schwartz, John Bode, Nelson Eusebio, J. Study Finds Diabetes in the United States Continues to Rise

01:39
Twenty-nine million people in the United States have diabetes. If left untreated, diabetes can cause serious health-related complications. The total estimated cost of diabetes in the United States was $245 billion in 2012, which includes both health care costs and lost productivity. Researchers from Social & Scientific Inc. reviewed the records of 26,000 people from a long-standing national survey to determine prevalence and trends in diabetes. Overall, about 14% of the population has diabetes, a third of whom are undiagnosed. They also found that more than one third of the U.S. population has pre-diabetes. The current results are the first estimates for diabetes in Asian-Americans. Their prevalence of diabetes was 20 percent, about as high as it is in blacks and Hispanics. Another alarming finding is that up to 50 percent of Asians and Hispanics with diabetes were unaware they had the condition. Researchers concluded, no matter what a person's age, race, ethnic group, or socio-economic status is, diabetes still continues to rise in the United States. Van Life; Diabetes Awareness-84M Americans Have Pre-diabetes / 1.5M Diagnosed Diabetic Every Yr.

29:01
There is 30.3 million Americans that have diabetes and 7.2 million Americans undiagnosed. There is 84 million Americans that are pre-diabetic and 1 of 3 don't know they have it, are you one of them? There is 1.5 million Americans diagnosed with diabetes every year. Please listen to this video as I share how I went undiagnosed for 1 1/2 years. Don't be one of those people that doesn't know they have it. Diabetes is the 7th leading causes of death in America. Education about this disease is vital in out country. A better more understanding way to explain the test is here https://youtu.be/EWqs0qdXeZ4 Basically in simple English the hemoglobin test....HbA1C test the % of red blood cells that are damaged by blood sugars. Sugars (glucose) will stick to the different proteins, palates and blood cells. When this happens there is damage to the cells. What they are measuring is the % of red blood cells damaged. They are checking what they call a hemoglobin percentage HbA1C. That video is the best put in simple English for most to understand without getting to technical 🤗👍 Thank you for watching!!! Proceeds from this video will be given to the American Diabetes Association!!!

4 Diabetes Symptoms in Women You Probably don't know

03:22
Diabetes is one of the most significant lifestyle diseases we see today. In just 25 years, the global incidence of diabetes has doubled, according to the World Health Organization. More than 15 million women are living with type 2 diabetes in the United States alone, and another 40 million are prediabetic. While many signs and symptoms of diabetes are common in men and women, women experience specific unique symptoms. Here are 4 Diabetes Symptoms in women: 1. Urinary Tract Infections The risk of UTIs is higher in women with diabetes. UTIs occur when bacteria gain access to the urinary tract, where they colonize and cause infection. Signs and symptoms include painful urination, burning sensation during urination, fever, and cloudy urine. High blood glucose levels, poor circulation and the inability of immune cells to efficiently fight bacteria are all causes of UTIs. 2. Poor Sexual Health High levels of blood sugar often cause a condition called diabetic neuropathy. This is a condition in which nerves lose their ability to transmit signals between the organs and brain efficiently. This can lead to partial or complete loss of sensation in parts of the body including feet, hands, and legs. The vagina is an organ with a vibrant network of nerves. It is, thus, one of the most sensitive organs of the female body. Neuropathy may significantly affect sensation in the vagina, leading to a lower sexual drive in women. 3. Vaginal and Oral Infections Overgrowth of a yeast called Candida albicans causes vaginal and oral yeast infections, called “thrush.” High levels of glucose in the blood are favorable for the growth of this yeast. Vaginal infections are accompanied by symptoms like soreness, itching, vaginal discharge and pain during sex. When the infection is oral, a cottage cheese-like coating is seen on the tongue and the inside of the mouth. 4. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a metabolic syndrome caused due to hormonal imbalance in the female body. It affects fertility in women and causes irregular periods. Other symptoms include facial hair, acne, loss of hair, weight gain, depression, and skin darkening. Females with PCOS are at high risk of getting diabetes. PCOS is thus an important warning sign of an impending diabetic condition.

Low-Carb Diet & Type 2 Diabetes

04:56
Over the past several years, we've seen the rates of type 2 diabetes in the United States absolutely skyrocket. At this stage, there's no doubt about it: lifestyle choices are playing a key role in causing this problem.  As far as I'm concerned, this is a threat to our collective health not only because of the harmful role diabetes can play in the body, but because of the myriad ailments that tend to be correlated with diabetes and its impacts elsewhere in the body, from the kidneys to the brain. For instance, did you know that type 2 diabetics may have as much as a 4x increase in risk for becoming a patient with Alzheimer's? All of this in mind, let's look at what lifestyle choices can do to improve the healthspan of type 2 diabetics.

Native American Tribe Has Highest Rate of Adult Onset Diabetes Worldwide

03:44
The second largest Native American tribe, Tohono O'odham, (tah-HA-nah AW-dum) has the highest rate of adult onset diabetes in the world. Many of the tribe's 28,000 members live on a reservation in the desert in the U.S. southwest state of Arizona. Until 1960, no one had diabetes because people ate traditional foods that helped prevent the disease. But with the introduction of foods high in fat and calories, diabetes became widespread, including in children. Now the O'odham people are being encouraged to go back to eating the traditional foods and a cafe on the reservation is making those foods appealing. VOAs Deborah Block has the story.

Type 2 Diabetes and Prediabetes Fast Facts: What is Diabetes?

01:20
Around the world, diabetes is on the rise. The World Health Organization has called diabetes the global health epidemic of the 21st century. Here in the United States, about 30 million children and adults have diabetes. Out of that number, nearly 95 percent have Type 2 diabetes. And there are millions of Americans who have prediabetes. But 9 out of 10 don’t know they have prediabetes. What is diabetes? Your body needs insulin to transform glucose (sugar) into energy. Without insulin sugar from foods and drinks build up in your bloodstream. In Type 2 diabetes, your body produces insulin, but it is not effective. If left untreated, this can lead to complications such as eye damage, foot problems, nerve damage and heart and blood vessel disease. In prediabetes, you have high blood sugar but not high enough for type 2 diabetes. If you’re not careful, prediabetes can turn into Type 2 diabetes.
