CimaVax is a treatment and vaccine for lung cancer that has been available for free to Cuban citizens, and America is looking to bring the drug stateside. Cuba’s lung cancer vaccine is not a cure, but aids in building antibodies against certain growth factors that cancer cells make. The vaccine prevents future relapse in people who are currently healthy, but at high risk for lung cancer. Clinical trials will have to take place before the FDA can approve the vaccine for use in the US. The vaccine would be a step toward Obama’s plan to eradicate cancer before leaving office. Researchers at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston say that people who eat a diet high in sugars and starches may be raising their risk of lung cancer, even if they don't smoke. They also determined that people who eat more foods with a high glycemic index also were more likely to develop lung cancer. Glycemic index is a term that's common among diabetics - it's an indicator for food that raises blood sugar and stimulates production of insulin. While other studies have linked glycemic index to risk of cancer, it's been rare for it to be linked to lung cancer specifically. http://feeds.nbcnews.com/c/35002/f/663303/s/4e1f94a9/sc/14/l/0L0Snbcnews0N0Chealth0Ccancer0Csugary0Estarchy0Ediet0Emay0Eraise0Echances0Elung0Ecancer0En534156/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Staging procedures allow doctors to select the proper course of treatment for cancer patients. The more accurate the procedures are, the better treatment may turn out for patients -- at least, that's the theory. According to UPI, a new study published in JAMA shows imaging techniques are more accurate than surgery for lung cancer staging. However, it really doesn't matter, because whichever method is used, neither have any effect on extending survival after diagnosis.
