Mike Senese, host of the 2009 Punkin Chunkin, conducts this interview about the trebuchet being built at the Craftsman Experience. Joseph Budka of Pagoda Studios is building the catapult-like medieval siege weapon, and describes the catastrophic failures endured along the way. http://www.stormthecastle.com Launching the ten foot trebuchet. The swing arm is ten feet long and the base is ten feet long. The Projectile is a six pound rock and it throws 140 feet or more. I will be posting complete instructions on how to build this on my website. Special thanks go to John for all the help in building this Trebuchet. He is the master carpenter! I am just a guy with the crazy ideas! And Special Thanks go to Dee for Sewing the Trebuchet projectile pouch. Learn more here: http://goo.gl/8DVncy When Leonardo da Vinci wasn't busy painting, sculpting or otherwise being brilliant, he spent his free time drawing mechanical throwing machines. Now you can match wits with da Vinci and put your coordination skills to the test with this build-it-yourself, working re-creation of his 15th Century catapult. With just an hour of assembly time, this bad boy can hurl a small clay ball over four meters, which comes in handy for ambushing pesky kid brothers or protecting cubicles from annoying coworkers. All pieces are pre-cut and made with natural, untreated wood from sustainable forests.

Follow this movie that documents NOVA's successful attempt to build and shoot a giant trebuchet, the most destructive war machine that ever laid siege to a medieval castle. The trebuchet was only the most frightening of the weapons early European warriors employed in siege warfare. They also relied on battering rams, siege towers, tunnels - anything to gain access to a castle. Defenders, meanwhile, had a few tricks of their own. Build your own virtual trebuchet and fire giant sandstone balls at a castle wall. You decide on the size of your projectiles, where to place your trebuchet, and other factors critical to success. This is video of a medieval siege engine called a trebuchet. It is not a catapult as many people don't know the difference between the two. This was the ultimate in siege warfare until the cannon was invented. Mine is 27 feet tall, the throwing arm is a willow oak tree, and the counterweight ranges from 1600-2000 pounds. The projectiles were watermelons, pony kegs, and 16 pound bowling balls. There are a couple clips in this video that I don't like. One is the second clip of the trebuchet (20seconds in.) It seems to show a projectile falling quickly and not going far, but we had tied a pink flamingo to the bowling ball and that is what you see falling so fast. Then there is a shot of the tree line (58 seconds in) from when we launched 16lbs of flour. You can barely make it out, but there is a giant puff of flour in-between the trees. The flour got ripped apart as it was released from the sling. Please feel free to comment and ask questions. To date, this is my best DIY project. I will build a larger version one day though.

This is a brief tutorial on trebuchet physics and useful tricks to make your trebuchet throw farther. Much of this isn't obvious if you're new to trebuchets and I overlooked many of the key energy transfer methods when I was starting out. Hopefully, this will help you optimize your trebuchet In this tutorial, I discuss how to use sling stalls and CW-arm stalls to your advantage. Having a basic understanding of both is necessary when designing an efficient trebuchet. For the purposes of the tutorial, I made a tabletop hanging counterweight trebuchet. This means that the tutorial will primarily focus on Hanging Counterweight trebuchets, but the concepts also apply to floating arm trebuchets (once you have the rail gaps worked out, a floating arm trebuchet is like a hanging counterweight trebuchet with greater fall distance and a vertical CW-arm stall point... hence, it is far more forgiving...) Also briefly mentioned is the multiple rotations trebuchet, where a link is included....

My friend's daughter, who is also one of my karate students got to build a trebuchet for a class catapult contest at her school, so I offered to help. This is how it turned out. We need to add some heavier counterweights and it will fly much farther. We got ideas for the design from this very helpful site: http://hila.webcentre.ca/projects/trebuchet/index.htm Our model is about 2.5 times the size of the desktop trebuchet on that site. I had a lot of fun building this, now I want to make a big one :-)

We built two small trebuchets for a school project a couple years back. They use a cigar box filled with lead shot for a counterweight, are made of oak, and use a wheel and free-hanging counterweight design. This allows the trebuchet to function with a smoother motion, and more efficient use of the weight. We shoot golf balls with the larger one about 30-40 yards. The smaller one was our first build so it has a much lesser range of 15-20 yards. Also, we did not use any plans or instructions to build them. Hope you enjoy! http://basquemind.blogspot.com/

Today we have a look at a modern design for a Trebuchet that still works with Medieval Engineers parts.. The Floating Arm Trebuchet. Really hope we get the hooks and sling parts to make trebuchets work properly soon because this should be a super efficient design. For now though it's a kinda weak catapault! Still very happy with how it works though :) Expect more real life designs recreated in ME in future! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floating_arm_trebuchet Find out more: http://www.medievalengineers.com/ Steam Group: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/w4stedspace Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/w4stedspace Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/w4stedspace This video was created using games from Keen Software House.

Discover how easy and inexpensive it is to build a trebuchet. Model Trebuchets have soared in popularity as more and more students, engineers, and enthusiasts build and launch these fun-filled models. Originating from the era of ancient seige weaponry, trebuchets can be built quickly and hurl objects hundreds of feet through the air...without fuel, wind or water for power. You can access building plans at the http://www.howtomakeatrebuchet.com website.

Download/DVD: http://hilaroad.com/video/ This video explains the science behind a trebuchet. The trebuchet is a medieval machine designed to throw objects at or into castles. This video explains that the gravitational potential energy stored in the raised counterweight is converted into kinetic energy in the projectile. Trebuchets make excellent science fair projects. Support Will: http://www.stormthecastle.com/support.htm In this tutorial I show you how to make a rubber band powered catapult out of PVC plastic pipe. It is a small desktop sized catapult and easy to make. PVC is plastic pipe that is readily available at all hardware stores and it is very inexpensive. Same thing with all the fittings and elbows you see in the catapult. You can get them right off the shelf and they are very cheap. Just about the only thing you need to make this catapult is some kind of a saw to cut the plastic pipe. It is the perfect catapult project if you don't have any woodworking stuff. I give you a complete parts list so you can get all the parts and put the catapult together quickly and easily. The tutorial and template for this catapult are on my website here: http://www.stormthecastle.com/catapult/how-to-make-a-pvc-catapult.htm About my Channel: I have hundreds of videos covering all kinds of creative projects. In this video, I use pencils, floss, paper clips, and scotch tape to construct a table top trebuchet. Hopefully, this will show you how to use square and diagonal lashings to tie the pencils together to make a frame as well as give you guidelines for tuning. However, if you want additional information about tuning, see my trebuchet physics video. If this video gets enough views or if I get trapped in a blizzard, I might also make one for a mangonel or a ballista.

Anamosa Boy Scout Troop 67 fires it's Trebuchet or as they like to call it, The Flinger. The boys built the Trebuchet on site out of pre-cut trees that had been marked for farmland removal anyway. They used 400 feet of rope to create the 12 foot tall beast. It ended up throwing a basketball 82 feet.
