This is a hay feeder. We got the plans from Premier 1. Made with pressure treated 2X4 and 1/2" plywood. I attached it to the fence so that way I can feed them from outside. The size of the fencing depends on how big the goats or sheep are and how much hay you want them to be able to pull through at a time. Happy Farming!

Slow feeder for horses that we made after learning about the risks of colic at a clinic held by Hillcrest Animal Hospital in Lincoln, NE. The gridwall is from Kansas City Fixtures at http://www.kc-store-fixtures.com/standard-gridwall-panels/ and is very inexpensive.

The feed that the cattle, horses, etc. pull out from the suspended area that doesn't get eaten falls in the trays. This prevents the hay falling and being trampled into the ground. The floor has 6 holes in the bottom of it to allow moisture to drain from it. • The feed is suspended off the ground which means that moisture doesn't affect the bottom of the bales. • Round bales are positioned so that they naturally drain water off the top. This is significant because the top of the bale is eaten last which means that the draining feature lasts until the bale is completely eaten. • The Tray Hay Feeder has an optional attachment, the Hay Feeder Roof, to better reduce waste from rain.

Without a properly constructed manger, goats will pull expensive hay and alfalfa out of a feeder and drop more than half of it on the ground. Once they do, they won't eat it. Here is a simple, cheap and effective manger that you can build in about half an hour, and that will save you a lot of money in feed. Sometimes I get an idea and it actually works the way I envision. After years of trying to stop my goats from turning much of their hay into bedding, I've finally got something that works. If you have this same problem, I hope you will give this idea a try.

Potagergirl on the Homestead Using only a pair of pliers and 2x4 welded fence wire you can make a quick, easy, and most of all inexpensive hay feeder for your animals. Getting animals, having animals, we all know how expensive equipment can be. Coming up with a simple inexpensive solution is part of what we do to take good care of our goats, lamas, and other farm animals. Frustrated with plastic hampers that were easily broken, cages that did not allow the goats to eat all the hay, and just generally trying a variety of hay holders that simply did not work. I designed this one which has made for a happy goat house. They can easily pull the hay, less hay is wasted, and it is easy to make with fence scraps you probably already have on hand.

A home made bender we use to build round bale feeders, constructed from scrap iron in the shop. It was cut apart many times before getting it "just right." The curve of the bend is critical to make sure a circular feeder is the result.
