All the way through to GCSE and just in time for revision. This video is all about how to enlarge a shape on a graph by scale factor and forms part of the playlist 'How to translate a shape on a graph. The two key areas that you need to be aware of are: - Scale factor, how large, or small, the shape becomes and - The centre of enlargement. This is the point that the 'lines of enlargement' originate from. It's also helpful to drwa as accurately as possible as many exam questions are becoming a little more difficult by making the shapes more complex. Scale (map)

25:13
The scale of a map is the ratio of a distance on the map to the corresponding distance on the ground. This simple concept is complicated by the curvature of the Earth's surface, which forces scale to vary across a map. Because of this variation, the concept of scale becomes meaningful in two distinct ways. The first way is the ratio of the size of the generating globe to the size of the Earth. The generating globe is a conceptual model to which the Earth is shrunk and from which the map is projected. The ratio of the Earth's size to the generating globe's size is called the nominal scale (= principal scale = representative fraction). Many maps state the nominal scale and may even display a bar scale (sometimes merely called a 'scale') to represent it. The second distinct concept of scale applies to the variation in scale across a map. It is the ratio of the mapped point's scale to the nominal scale. In this case 'scale' means the scale factor (= point scale = particular scale). This video is targeted to blind users. HOME Body Fat Testing - What's YOUR Bodyfat Percentage?

11:46
Compare your body fat percentage with this chart... http://athleanx.com/x/bodyfatcomparison One of the biggest mistakes you can make when gauging your body fat percentage progress on a workout program is to rely on a scale. A scale is only going to tell you how much you weigh and will not give you any information on whether you are losing fat or gaining muscle. In order to know just how much body fat you are dropping you need to have a reliable way to measure this...and unfortunately, most of the options are not that consistent or reliable. That said, if you could have access to a few methods for testing your own body fat levels in the convenience of your own home, you might be able to see where you are a bit more frequently. Even if the accuracy wasn't spot on, you would still be able to monitor the week to week fluctuations in the body fat percentages that you are seeing and would know the direction you are moving in. In this video, I cover four of the most common methods for testing body fat percentages at home. I tell you the flaws and the positives with each method. From online body fat calculators to bioelectrical impedance scales to skinfold caliper testing to the old fashioned mirror...each method is reviewed and actual body fat testing results are revealed. Also, be sure to watch how important knowing your body fat levels are when determining your fitness. You'll see how two people can weigh exactly the same and look drastically different. Hint...it all has to do with lean body mass! For more videos on fat burning workouts and muscle gaining exercises to help you change your body fat levels and see noticeable changes each time you do measure your percentages, be sure to check out our youtube channel at http://youtube.com/user/jdcav24 For a body fat percentage comparison chart, be sure to click on the link at the top of the description. You'll be able to see where you are currently, and where you want to get to in the next 90 days and beyond.

How to Calculate Growth Rate or Percent Change

01:47
Watch more How to Start a Business videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/410859-How-to-Calculate-Growth-Rate-or-Percent-Change Subtract, divide, and multiply your way to successfully determining how much that increase or decrease really amounts to. Step 1: Subtract the past number from the current number Subtract the past number from the current number. For example if the price of gas this year was $3.25 a gallon and last year it was $2.75 a gallon calculate $3.25 minus $2.75 to equal $0.50. Tip To calculate the predicted percent increase or decrease, subtract the current amount from the future predicted amount. Step 2: Divide Divide the past number from the subtracted amount. From the earlier example, divide $0.50 by $2.75 to equal .1818. Use a calculator if your division skills need sharpening. Step 3: Multiply by 100 Multiply the final number by 100. In the example, the end result equals 18.18. Step 4: Add a percent sign Add a percent sign to the end to finish your calculated percent growth. Our example ends in 18.18 percent. Tip If the final number is negative, the result would be a decline, not a growth. Step 5: Round up or down Round up if the number is five or over and round down if the number is under five. Rounding to the first decimal would equal 18.2 percent or to the nearest whole number, 18 percent. Did You Know? French mathematician Blaise Pascal invented the first adding machine in 1642. It could only perform the mathematical equations of addition and subtraction.

How to Change the Size of Objects in AutoCAD

01:27
Follow this step by step tutorial to learn how to use the Lengthening tool to resize objects in AutoCAD. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ After an object has already been made in AutoCAD, its length can be altered using the "Lengthen" tool. This tool allows you to alter the length of different lines already existing in your workspace, change sizes in AutoCAD or resize in AutoCAD. There are more than one ways to carry out this process. The steps to use this tool are explained in the tutorial given below. Step # 1 -- Select the "Lengthen" tool The length of the line present here can be increased or decreased according to your own requirement. To do this, you can change sizes in AutoCAD. Select the "Lengthen" tool from the extended options in the "Modify" panel. Right clicking after selecting it provides you with a set of options according to which you can specify the alteration in measurements. Step # 2 -- Select the "total" option Select the "Total" option which allows you to enter the total length you want your object to have. Press enter and click on the object to alter its length and resize in AutoCAD. Step # 3 -- Apply on a closed object The same process can be applied on a closed linear object made from the "Line" tool. The lines get trimmed according to the specified distance. It trims off from the edge you click at. Step # 4 -- Select the "Delta" option There are other options that you can use as well. Right click and select the "Delta" option. The value that you now enter, whichever object you click on increases its length by that specified value. If you enter a negative value then the length of the CAD object will decrease accordingly and change size in AutoCAD. Step # 5 -- Use the "Dynamic" option The length can also be modified in AutoCAD by specifying the percentage of alteration. The last option which is "Dynamic" allows you to alter the length of the objects manually. Click on the object with it and resize in AutoCAD according to your requirement. Keep in mind that when you select one option, then to select another you first have to press "ESC", get rid of the command and then pick the tool again. This tool is useful when while maintaining accuracy in dimensions in your drawings.

Body Fat Percentage Versus BMI or Body Mass Index | Gaining Muscle and Losing Fat? Use the Scale?

Sign up for my free tools and newsletter at http://www.FatlossLifestyle.com The only thing that can come from only using the scale to see if your exercise program is working is "Bad News". If you really want to know if your program is working for you you need more tools. You see; our body is made up of about 60% water. A 150 lb. person has about 100 lbs. of water. That water goes in and out of cells, muscle, organs depending on many factores. For women a certain time of the month, for higher intake of sodium, for intake of different types of carbs, etc. My point is that your bodyweight fluctates for so many reasons that we can't figure it out. Three ways that are better than just using the scale to see if your fitness program is working is: #1 The way your clothes fit If your pants are more lose around the waist and you have more room in your clothes than more than likely are losing fat. #2 To use a clothe tape and a scale. The waist line measurement and the scale give you a lot better feedback. If the scale stays the same and the waist measurement goes down, then you are losing fat and gaining muscle. If the scale stays the same and the waist measurement goes up then you are gaining fat. #3 One site skin fold caliper kit. They are very easy to use and very affordable. Just google search for them. The feedback is much more precise than the other methods above. The three #'s that are important to monitor are; 1. Overall bodyfat % 2. Fat weight 3. Lean Body Mass These kit are very easy to use and within one minute you will know if you are losing, gaining, or maintaining muscle and fat. Using one or all three of these techniques you will be able to find out what works and what does not work at gaining muscle and losing fat. If you have been following me for any length of time you know that I believe that one of the most important factors in transforming your body and life is "muscle confusion". Simply put; you can't do the same exercises the same way all the time. You must give your muscles something new and different. Why Uber Is A Scam - Math Explains

05:37
Ok so I was looking at this graph put on Uber’s website today and thought it looked too good to be true. How amazing that Uber drivers make more than any other type of driver. But I knew from my own experience as a rider that Uber didn’t cost that much. In fact, Uber is pretty cheap if you’re a passenger. Sooooo…. how can uber be so cheap, and yet the drivers make so much money??? Now Uber has cut pay to drivers in Detroit to 24cents a mile , but we’re going to stick to the 90c for now. Uber takes 20% of the total fare from the driver for older drivers. Newer drivers get 25% taken. So we’re down to 67.5c per mile. Then you have to deduct tax: In some LA County's, sales tax is as high as 10%, and Uber doesn’t withold taxes for you. The drives are responsible for keeping this money aside to pay the tax department in April. So with the 10% deducted, we’re down to (just over 60 cents) 60.75c Now we need to factor in depreciation of the car. A car is an asset like anything else, and will eventually wear out and you’ll have to buy a new one. Every mile you drive decreases the value of your car and brings you that much closer to needing a new one. This is a big problem if you drive for a living, you’re going to need to buy a new car every two or three years and the cost of a new car is significant. The IRS estimates vehicle cost to drive a vehicle for work at $0.54 a mile . Broken down into Fuel costs @ an average of 12c per mile Depreciation at $0.24c per mile. Repairs, tyres, & maintainence at 9c per mile Insurance, licence, registration, finance, fees - average out to around 9c per mile So with 54c depreciation, repairs, and fuel accounted for, we’re down to just over 6c per mile that actually goes into your hands of drivers. Given that Uber also asks its drivers to buy things like bottles of water, gum, and chargers for it’s passengers, we can say for certain that driving for Uber pays well below minimum wage or even worse, costing drivers money (as is seen directly in this actual fare uber charged one of it’s drivers). So given the math is so bad, why does anyone drive for Uber? Here’s an example of a post an Uber driver posted - he was $400 behind on the rent, and needed to make up some quick cash. In a way, uber is kind of like a loans scheme. Now for some people in desperate circumstances, what Uber’s offering might be an acceptable deal. But for most people, driving for Uber is a waste of time. I wish Uber would be more honest with people. By our calculations, the amount you’re making as an uber driver is nowhere near $19 per hour. If you drive 30 miles per hour at 6.75c per hour, you’re only making $2.00 per mile - by far the worst choice of any transportation job. This number is supported by Not Cool Uber, who have tracked hourly earnings to be around $2.89 and, after vehicle fees are taken into account, $0. Now – I’m not against car pooling. We all need transport, and I know I am a frequent user of Uber & Lyft. But I think that Uber is going about it in an unethical way, which makes me unethical for supporting them as a customer. Uber could easily fix this situation : by reducing their commission, by making rates more reasonable, by giving riders the option to Tip their drivers, or just by being transparent. But that would mean admitting that they’ve generated significant revenue from effectively exploiting their drivers. So the truth is, Uber benefits from maintaining this status quo. Uber is currently reported to be making $10 billion in revenue per year - and that money has to come from someone. Just don’t let that someone be you. Stress: reduced the possibility a high percentage of getting pregnant. Stress causes all sorts of problems in the health of people, but now authenticates that women experience more stress during the time of ovulation can have up to 45% less chance of conceiving a baby. He is fact that emerges from a recent study conducted by the School of Public Health and Science Information at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and Emory University in Atlanta, whose findings were published in the Annals of Epidemiology. In the aforementioned study they examined 400 women about 40 years old, recording their levels of daily stress on a scale of 1 to 4, and menstruation, contraceptive methods used previously, sex with your partner, and alcohol, caffeine and snuff. During the study collected urine samples from all voluntary, considering the day 14 estimated time of ovulation, concluding that stress during the ovulatory window, reduced by 40% the probability of pregnancy, and stress in general, to a Four. Five%. The study leader, epidemiologist Kira Taylor, School of Public Health and Science Information at the University of Louisville, said: Some people are skeptical about the emotional and psychological attributes may affect fertility. I hope the results of this study serve as a wakeup call for doctors and the general public about the health and psychological well-being is so important, when trying to conceive, as other risk factors most commonly accepted, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or obesity. #fertility #stress #health #smoking #Technology #AbanTech #DrinkingAlcohol #obesity #KiraTaylor #PublicHealth #Science #embrazo #menstruation #caffeine #snuff #ovulation #baby, #AnnalsEpidemiology #UrineTests #women

Math Snacks: Scale Ella

10:45
Math Snacks are short animations and mini-games designed to present mathematics in a very different way. In fact, we hope these snacks don't look like traditional math at all. Math Snacks give students, especially those who don't particularly like math, another way to look at math concepts. Math Snacks principles relate to the core mathematics concepts that students should know and be able to do in grades 6, 7 and 8. The availability of Snacks on the Internet, iPhone and iPad, makes it possible for students to enjoy the games and animations during non-school time as well as in class. Students can work with the snacks on their way to and from school, and at home or in libraries or after-school centers. The accompanying print materials can assist learners in applying their conceptual understanding to additional math activities and problems. Math Snacks reflect research on gaps in mathematics understanding. Educational researchers compiled data on what students don't currently understand and the concepts that teachers have a difficult time conveying to their students. Math Snacks researchers observed and worked in classrooms to learn the problems students were having with math. The Math Snacks team also includes experts in the area of games, animations and learning. Using the Dual Immersion Design Process created at NMSU Learning Games Lab, team mathematicians, math educators, researchers and game developers work collaboratively to provide access to powerful learning tools. Most developer resources are available to our team, which include our learning objectives and other working documents. Math Snacks materials are pilot tested throughout development. Beginning in the fall of 2012, Math Snacks materials will be evaluated using random trials in school and after-school settings. By 2014, the Math Snacks suite will include 20 different animations and games, and all learner tools will be translated into Spanish. Math Snacks development, outreach and research is currently funded by a K-12 Discovery Learning grant from the National Science Foundation led by Dr. Karin Wiburg (Barbara Chamberlin and Ted Stanford are co-PIs). Initial animations and games were originally funded as part of a larger national project from the U.S. Department of Education, led by Tim Best (the Ohio State University) and Sheila Cassidy (Wexford Consulting), with Dr. Wiburg and Dr. Chamberlin as Co-PIs. http://mathsnacks.com http://learninggameslab.org © 2014 NMSU Board of Regents. It's the opposite, the biggest factor that will get people to send remittances home is how the labour market in the United States is doing, and the data we have right now shows it's pretty bad." 7. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Luis Flores, senior economic analyst for Ixe Bank: "Starting in January, this story that Mexico was going to be saved from the recession, that it could have infrastructure in place to do something to balance the situation; that idea has dissipated almost completely. Today, the entire world is waiting for the recession after seeing that the efforts of the government aren't going to be sufficient to stop it from coming." FILE: Hidalgo - May 2006 12. The peso's slip to 14.64 prompted the Central Bank to sell 400 (m) million US dollars in foreign reserves to boost the sagging currency. The peso has lost about 45 percent of its value against the dollar since August, even as Mexico's central bank sold more than 15 (b) billion US dollars in foreign reserves. Mexico sends 80 percent of its exports to the US, where recession has slashed demand for its goods and reduced work for migrants who send dollars home. Money sent home by migrant workers is one of Mexico's top sources of foreign income. Economic analyst Luis Flores said the hope that the country would steer off recession had dissipated. On Tuesday, a treasury official said Mexico's economy could shrink 1 percent in 2009, having already shrunk at a yearly rate of 1 percent in the last quarter. The central bank cut interest rates this month for the first time since 2006 to boost growth. Should I Sell on eBay or Amazon? Ebay vs. Amazon's Fees

10:07
In this video I answer the question: “Should I sell on eBay or Amazon?” And discuss eBay vs. Amazon’s fees. Want to earn over $10k/month from an Amazon business? Our free ebook reveals how: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step As I discuss, the answer to the question should I sell on eBay or Amazon isn’t simple. It is going to depend on these three factors: 1) What type of account you have with eBay and/or Amazon. 2) What the item you’re selling is. 3) How you plan to fulfill the order. For each item, when asking should I sell on eBay or Amazon, you’re going to need to calculate the different fee’s that eBay and Amazon charge to work out your profit after fees. Here is how to work out your eBay seller fees: Ebay insertion fee: You get to list 20 items for free on eBay. After that, you have to pay an eBay insertion fee. The one exception is the Collectibles category, where you can list an additional 20 items for free. If you’re selling collectibles, this is an important consideration when you’re wondering, should I sell on eBay or Amazon. If you have a basic eBay store, you’ll only pay 20 cents to list a fixed price item. Premium stores pay 10 cents, and Anchor stores pay 5 cents. If you create extra auction-style listings, you’ll only pay a 25 cent insertion fee as a Basic eBay store, 15 cents as a Premium store and 10 cents as an Anchor store. Ebay final value fee: This is a percentage fee paid on the cost of the item you sold. You pay it on both the cost of shipping, AND the cost of the item. It is only paid after you have successfully sold an item. When you ask yourself, should I sell on eBay or Amazon, whether you have an eBay store is key. If you don’t have an eBay store, you pay a 10% fixed fee. But, if you do have an eBay store, your final value fees will be between 4-9% depending on the item category. If you are a PowerSeller you’ll save an additional 20% on the final value fee on the cost of the item, but NOT the eBay shipping final value fee. These are your eBay fees to calculate when answering for each item should I sell on eBay or Amazon. However, you need to keep in mind that having an eBay store is pretty expensive: A basic store costs $19.95 or $191.40 if you pay a 12-month subscription upfront. You also need to pay the PayPal fees. This is a flat 45 cent fee, plus 2.9-2.2% of the transaction for most people. Those are the eBay fees. Now, to work out the answer to question of should I sell on eBay or Amazon, you need to Amazon’s seller fees. Here’s how to work them out. Note, there are NO upfront fees. You only pay fees on items you successfully sell: Amazon Commission Fee: This depends on the category and is between 6-45%, but it will usually be between 12-15%. This is on the cost of the item, not the shipping. Amazon Variable Closing Fee: There is a fixed Amazon Variable Closing Fee on media items of $1.35. For everything else, you pay a variable price based on the shipping selected. For standard shipping, you pay 45 cents + 5 cents per pound. For domestic expedited shipping, you’ll pay 65 cents + 10 cents per pound. Amazon-Per-Transaction Fee: You’ll pay 99 cents per transaction. If you have a PRO account you don’t have to pay this, but your PRO account costs $39.99. Only buy this if you are selling 40+ items per month. However, what this doesn’t take into account is that Amazon will also give you a shipping credit IF you are fulfilling the order yourself and not through the Amazon FBA program. This acts like a “refund” for your Amazon fees. Amazon FBA Fees: You only pay these if you’re fulfilling your orders through Amazon FBA. You will have to pay a pick & pack fee and a fee based on the weight of the item. Certain non-media items also have a order handling fee of $1. This is in addition to the other fees. And So, when you’re wondering, should I sell on eBay or Amazon, and which one is cheaper and has the lowest fees, you need to calculate each item for yourself using the following equations: * Ebay fees: Insertion Fee + Final Value Fee + PayPal Fee. * Amazon fees: Amazon Commission Fee + Variable Closing Fee + Transaction Fee - Amazon Shipping Credit. And work out which one is cheaper. Interesting in earning $10,000/month selling on Amazon, then download our free ebook: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step

From Deep Learning of Disentangled Representations to Higher-level Cognition

01:17:05
One of the main challenges for AI remains unsupervised learning, at which humans are much better than machines, and which we link to another challenge: bringing deep learning to higher-level cognition. We review earlier work on the notion of learning disentangled representations and deep generative models and propose research directions towards learning of high-level abstractions. This follows the ambitious objective of disentangling the underlying causal factors explaining the observed data. We argue that in order to efficiently capture these, a learning agent can acquire information by acting in the world, moving our research from traditional deep generative models of given datasets to that of autonomous learning or unsupervised reinforcement learning. We propose two priors which could be used by an agent acting in its environment in order to help discover such high-level disentangled representations of abstract concepts. The first one is based on the discovery of independently controllable factors, i.e., in jointly learning policies and representations, such that each of these policies can independently control one aspect of the world (a factor of interest) computed by the representation while keeping the other uncontrolled aspects mostly untouched. This idea naturally brings fore the notions of objects (which are controllable), agents (which control objects) and self. The second prior is called the consciousness prior and is based on the hypothesis that our conscious thoughts are low-dimensional objects with a strong predictive or explanatory power (or are very useful for planning). A conscious thought thus selects a few abstract factors (using the attention mechanism which brings these variables to consciousness) and combines them to make a useful statement or prediction. In addition, the concepts brought to consciousness often correspond to words or short phrases and the thought itself can be transformed (in a lossy way) into a brief linguistic expression, like a sentence. Natural language could thus be used as an additional hint about the abstract representations and disentangled factors which humans have discovered to explain their world. Some conscious thoughts also correspond to the kind of small nugget of knowledge (like a fact or a rule) which have been the main building blocks of classical symbolic AI. This, therefore, raises the interesting possibility of addressing some of the objectives of classical symbolic AI focused on higher-level cognition using the deep learning machinery augmented by the architectural elements necessary to implement conscious thinking about disentangled causal factors. Want to Reduce Your Auto Insurance Costs Let Me Count the Ways!

09:39
transcript We all complain about the mounting cost of automobile insurance. So what are our options to lower our auto insurance expense? Take a look at the following list of opportunities to reduce your auto insurance. 1. Plan For And Include Auto Insurance Costs Into The Cost Of your Auto Purchase To begin with, buying a car is a significant initial expense and auto insurance is a sizable subsequent expense in your ongoing cost of ownership. You should always look into what your insurance costs are going to be on any vehicle you consider buying. 2. Research Auto Insurance Rates On Different Makes And Models Before Buying Your Car. Insurers rate vehicles on a risk scale based on statistics that cover a range of factors such as exposure to risk of injury or theft, vandalism, flashy or sporty vehicles, cost, cost to fix, past claims history, overall safety record, etc. The higher the risk, the higher the insurance premium. Many insurers offer discounts for low-risk vehicles such as sedans and station wagons. Check out this information with your state or provincial insurance agencies before you to decide what car to buy. 3. Research And Get Quotes From Several Insurance Agencies Once you have decided on a make and model of car, the best way to make sure you are getting the most affordable price for your auto insurance policy is to do your research and compare, quotes. You should obtain a number of quotes from different insurers as coverage costs from one insurer to the next can vary by hundreds of dollars, and possibly thousands of dollars. Get at least three price quotes. Call insurers directly or get online quotes. Provide the same coverage, deductibles and limitations so you can compare apples with apples. Nowadays, comparison sites do all the legwork for you and provide competing rates side-by-side. Visit some of the sites advertised on my website listed below. 4. Save Money By Raising Your Deductibles You can reduce your insurance premium considerably by increasing the deductible on the comprehensive and collision portion of your insurance policy. However, keep in mind that in the event you have an accident and file a claim, you will have to pay the deductible out of your own pocket. So make sure you can afford to do that. You can save 10 percent or more by increasing your deductible from say $500 to $1,000. If your claim is $2500 and your deductible is $1,000, you will pay $1,000 and your insurance company will pay $1500. 5. Save Money By Purchasing Home And Auto Insurance From the Same Insurer Purchasing your home and automobile insurance policies with the same insurer may qualify you for a further discount, which may shave up to another 10% on both policies. Most insurers offer this saving as an incentive to get your home insurance business too. .6 Save Money By Including All Vehicles Under The Same Policy Similarly, many insurers offer a multi-auto discounts for those who insure more than one car on the same policy. You can save up to 10% by placing more than one vehicle under the same policy. 7. Save Money By Maintaining A Good Driving Record Your driving record is a significant factor in determining your insurance rate. If you have a clean driving record (without accidents, traffic tickets, drunk driving convictions, etc.,) you may be eligible for further discounts on your auto insurance policy. A bad driving record can become very costly in terms of insurance premiums, as you may take three years or more to wipe out past misdemeanors off your record. 8. Save Money By Maintaining A Good Credit Record Insurers are increasingly using credit information to price auto insurance policies. Developing and maintaining a solid credit history can reduce your insurance costs. To protect your credit status, pay your debts on time, don't get more credit than you need and keep your debt balances as low as possible. Review your credit record often and ensure your record remains accurate by getting errors corrected promptly. 9. Save By Asking For Low Mileage Discounts If you are retired, semi-retired, car-pool or use public transportation to go to work, and generally keep your annual car mileage as low as possible you may be eligible for a low-mileage discount. The low mileage limit is generally around 10k-12k miles per year depending on the state or province you live in. 10. Research Other Discounts Other discounts may be available if you meet certain conditions. Examples may include age group, low mileage, occupation, if you install an alarm or other safety devices in your car, taken a defensive driving or drivers education course, are a member of an auto club, or loyal to the same auto insurance company for a number of years. These discounts vary by insurer. 11. Inquire about Group Insurance Some insurers may offer discounts to drivers who obtain insurance through an employer provided group plan, through professional, business and al

Fed minutes keep door open to balance sheet reduction in September

01:56
美연준, 다음달 '자산축소 발표' 시사…일부 위원 저물가 우려 The U.S. Federal Reserve is prepared to reduce its balance sheets,... made up of massive bond holdings purchased during the last recession. However, in regards to the timing of its next rate hike,... several officials were hesitant to pull the trigger... due to low inflation, which remains below the Fed's target goal. Yu Joonhee reports. There is a strong consensus among Fed officials... to scale down the bank's asset portfolio, now sitting at a staggering four-point-five trillion dollars,... built up through three rounds of quantitative easing. Minutes from the central bank's July meeting indicate,... measures to scale down the Fed's balance sheet could be announced at its September policy meeting,... with the roll-off to begin soon after. However, board members remain split on the timing of future rate hikes... with some officials wary of low inflation,... which remains below the Fed's two-percent target. While some remain optimistic that price growth will eventually reach its target,... others say the Fed must exercise patience under the current circumstances. The central bank's preferred measure of inflation... dropped to 1.5 percent in June,... compared to 1.8 percent in March, raising doubts on the wisdom of raising rates in the immediate timeframe. Overall, the FOMC members' prognosis of the U.S. economy was mostly healthy,... especially in its labor market and household spending. However, the minutes cited weak retail sales and sluggish wage growth... as factors of concern moving forward. Fed officials are also expecting little help from President Trump's fiscal drive,... with Washington's tax reform and infrastructure plan still stuck in limbo, for the time being. The Fed's upcoming rate hike, whether or not occurs before the year is up... may also put the Bank of Korea in a very tight spot. Despite surging exports,... some experts say it's a one-off phenomenon due to high semiconductor demand,... and that another rate cut, in addition to the government's supplementary budget... is necessary to keep economic growth on track.
