Watch Now: President Donald Trump's full press conference after Midterm Elections results

01:30:19
President Trump is holding a post-election news conference Wednesday, which he announced with a tweet: "I will be doing a news conference at The White House - 11:30 A.M. Will be discussing our success in the Midterms!" Though the Democrats won back control of the House, Republicans increased their margins in the Senate. CBS News' Major Garrett reported that the president said he was ecstatic as he watched the election results come in. He had focused in the closing days of the campaign on helping Republicans maintain their majority in the Senate, and that effort appears to have paid off. Wednesday morning, he was tweeting about the GOP's "Big Victory." Senate Republicans Hold HEATED Press Conference On Fbi Report on Kavanaugh 10/4/18

24:59
Senate Republicans held a press conference to tout Kavanaugh's nomination and blast Democrats, who they believe used the allegations against Kavanaugh to create a "circus." Republicans maintain they did not give FBI a list of people to interview Republicans on the committee said that they did not compile a definitive list of those the FBI should question and interview as part of their supplemental inquiry into allegations against Kavanaugh. "We did not come up with a list of people that the FBI should interview. The FBI was requested to conduct an investigation into any and all credible accusations of Kavanaugh. The FBI made the decision from there as to who to interview," Sen. Mike Lee explained. Sen. Cornyn added that the FBI had "all the permission they need to interview who they think is necessary." "There is no corroboration, we've done the best we could under the circumstances given the incredible mishandling of Dr. Ford's allegations by the ranking member of the committee," said Cornyn of Christine Blasey Ford's claims Cornyn: "Time to quit these antics" Sen. John Cornyn of Texas issued a warning to Democrats standing in the way of Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation: "It's time to quit all of these antics, these hijinks, this circus-like atmosphere." He said that any vote against Kavanaugh's confirmation is an "endorsement of the mishandling of this confirmation process" and a "vote for abing the confirmation process and a good person." "It will be a vote for the shameful intimidation tactics employed as part of an orchestrated smear campaign," he added. Grassley slams Senate Democrats for "demolition derby" of confirmation process Senate Judicary Committee chair Chuck Grassley called out his Democratic colleagues for creating a "downhill slope" and "demolition derby" of a confirmation process with Judge Brett Kavanaugh. "They've just about destroyed a good person to be on the Supreme Court," said Grassley at a press conference on Thursday. Grassley defended his leadership of the hearing process, saying he tried to commit to a "fair and thorough process." From his standpoint, however, Grassley said he feels "very good where this nomination is right now." GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley (Iowa) knocked reporters on Thursday by saying media showed bias in covering Brett Kavanaugh's nomination. "Now I would never use the word 'fake news.' I consider you folks the policemen for our Democratic system of government. But I want to show you where some of you have bias," Grassley told reporters. "This is almost rock-bottom. I would like to have the future of mending things so that we can do things in a collegial way that the U.S. Senate ought to do -- and particularly when it comes to the Supreme Court nomination," Grassley noted that he had protestors in his office over the past few weeks from both sides of the Supreme Court fight but reporters had only wanted to interview anti-Kavanaugh protestors. "I've had demonstrators in my office for two weeks now ... and one time the people that were for Kavanaugh wanted to be interviewed and they said we're only interested in interviewing people against Kavanaugh," Grassley told reporters. Grassley added that "that's a bias that none of you should be proud of." Republicans don't need help from Democrats if they can keep most of their caucus united. They hold a 51-seat majority, meaning they can lose one GOP senator before they need help from Democrats.

Rand Paul Hour Long Speech On Budget & Wasteful Spending - Senate Floor 2/8/18

01:08:43
Sen. Rand Paul is holding up a vote on the government funding bill using Senate rules. Paul says the funding legislation advancing through the Senate adds too much to the federal debt. If no bill is passed by midnight, the government will shut down. Paul can technically prevent a vote until after midnight. Sen. Rand Paul late Thursday balked at the massive two-year Senate budget deal, pushing the government closer to another shutdown ahead of a midnight deadline. The Republican senator from Kentucky held the Senate floor to object to the massive budget deal, pointing to how it would raise current caps on federal spending by almost $300 billion over the next two years without any offsets. According to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, the bill — which includes some disaster relief, tax extensions, and healthcare program extensions — would all told add about $320 billion to the federal deficit above the current baseline over 10 years. Due to the Senate's parliamentary rules, Paul can hold the floor until after midnight — effectively triggering a shutdown. Here's how that works: The House voted to pass a funding bill to prevent the shutdown and sent it to the Senate on Wednesday. The Senate plans to strip out the current text of the House bill and insert its own budget agreement. But under Senate rules, a vote can't occur on a bill the House sends for two days unless every member agrees to a unanimous consent to waive the requirement. Paul objected to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's unanimous consent rule, blocking the ability to move up the vote on the bill. This means that unless Paul withdraws his objection, the bill can't receive a vote until after midnight.

Trump campaigns for Florida Republicans

05:31
Democrats have pulled ahead in Florida's marquee races for the U.S. Senate and governor, a new Reuters opinion poll showed on Wednesday (October 31) , as President Donald Trump returned to the battleground state in a closing bid to bail out Republicans. U.S. Senator Bill Nelson is leading Rick Scott, Florida's Republican governor, by 5 percentage points among likely voters, according to the Reuters/Ipsos/UVA Center for Politics poll. A win by Nelson would be critical for Democrats' hopes of taking a majority in the Senate, which would require a net gain of two seats in the Nov. 6 elections. Most opinion polls and forecasters give Democrats a slim chance of winning control of the chamber, because they have to defend 10 seats in states that Trump won in 2016, including Florida. Addressing a crowd in Estero, Florida, Trump reeled off his usual attacks on the Democrats, saying they stood for high taxes, crime, open borders and uncontrolled immigration. It was the first stop on a six-day, eight-state, 11-rally tour that will bring Trump to eight states, including Missouri, Indiana and Tennessee, which are also home to hard-fought Senate races. Democrat Andrew Gillum, the Tallahassee mayor, is holding on to momentum in his bid to become Florida's first black governor. He drew the support of 50 percent of likely voters, unchanged from the last Reuters polling a month ago, compared with 44 percent supporting former U.S. Representative Ron DeSantis. "Ron is running against a radical socialist who wants to turn Florida into Venezuela," Trump told his supporters. Gillum's candidacy may be boosting a Democratic ticket that includes Nelson, who has opened up a significant lead in a Senate race that was tied last month in another Reuters/Ipsos poll. In the latest poll https://tmsnrt.rs/2piev5l, 49 percent of likely voters said they would return Nelson to Washington for a fourth term in the Senate, while 44 percent wanted to replace him with Scott. The Democratic strength at the top of the ballot could affect as many as a half dozen competitive contests across Florida for the U.S. House of Representatives. Democrats are seen as having a strong chance of winning at least the 23 seats needed to gain control of the House, and with it the power to derail Trump's agenda. Seeking to drive up turnout by his core supporters, Trump in recent weeks has tossed out a rapid-fire set of policy proposals: Sending up to 15,000 troops to the border with Mexico to address illegal immigration, calling for a 10 percent tax cut and floating a plan to reverse a guarantee of citizenship for everyone born in the United States. "This is a referendum on Donald Trump," said Aubrey Jewett, a political science professor at the University of Central Florida, noting that Trump's reputation rode on a governor's race where his endorsement delivered the Republican nomination to DeSantis. "If DeSantis loses, that is a direct reflection on Donald Trump in Florida and the power and influence that Trump has over Florida voters currently." Although Trump narrowly won Florida in the 2016 election, 51 percent of likely voters in the state now disapprove of how he is handling the presidency, according to the new Reuters poll. Oprah Winfrey, whom fans early this year tried to lure into taking Trump on in a 2020 White House run, is due in Georgia on Thursday to campaign with Democrat Stacey Abrams, who is seeking to become the United States' first black woman governor. Nancy Pelosi Asking Republicans For Their Vote: $700B Bill

02:29
Nancy Pelosi has absolutely no business being the speaker of the House. This is a Democrat controlled congress, therefore it is their responsibility to get legislation passed. I can't believe that they would bring a Bill to the floor that they were not sure would pass. If they thought that it was going to be close, then why in the world would this women go out and make such a political finger pointing speech? I believe that she either wanted the Bill to fail, or she's incompetent and has no business being the speaker of the house. House Republicans Blame Pelosis Speech Patrick Yoest reports from Washington on Congress. House Republicans blamed the failure of the $700 billion Wall Street rescue plan Monday on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), saying that Pelosi had been too partisan in a floor speech prior to the vote. (See the speech here, via CSPAN.) House Minority Leader John Boehner (R., Ohio) said that Pelosis speech poisoned the Republican caucus and caused a number of members we thought we could get to go south. I do believe that we could have gotten there today, had it not been for the partisan speech that the Speaker gave on the floor of the House, Boehner said. We put everything we had into getting the vote to get there today. Boehner added, however, that lawmakers have no choice but to work together and would have to find a middle ground to bring enough votes to avert a crisis. Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R., Mo.) said he had 12 Republicans who would have voted for the bill but changed their minds, while Rep. Eric Cantor (R., Va.) holding up a copy of what he said was Pelosis floor remarks - said the speaker frankly struck the tone of partisanship. A senior aide to Pelosi rejected the Republican claims against the speaker, saying the suggestion that her speech motivated House Republicans to vote against the bailout plan was absurd. You dont vote on the speech, you vote on the bill, said the aide. Frank, speaking at a press conference, mocked the suggestion. Give me those twelve peoples names and I will talk uncharacteristically nicely to them, Frank said.

In “Dangerous” Move, Republicans Push to Strip Healthcare From Millions Without Holding Any Hearings

07:10
https://democracynow.org - As protesters shouted "Kill the bill! Kill the bill!" Senate Republicans voted Tuesday, by the narrowest of margins, to open debate on repealing Obamacare. Vice President Mike Pence broke a 50-50 tie in the Senate. Two Republican senators—Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska—joined Democrats in voting against the motion to proceed. Republican Senator John McCain cast a decisive vote to open debate, after flying in from Arizona, where he is being treated for brain cancer. But hours later, the effort to repeal or replace Obamacare faced another setback, when nine Republicans joined Democrats in rejecting the first healthcare proposal. Martin Luther King Jr., "The Drum Major Instinct" FINAL Sermon --- COMPLETE

38:43
MLK's last SERMON... prophetically ends with his own eulogy, beginning at 35:07. Delivered to Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia on February 4, 1968. Not to be confused with his last SPEECH "I've Been to the Mountaintop" given two months later on April 3, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. Also, there's an edited 19 minute version floating around... it's missing 3 sections and actually CUTS OFF HIS FINAL SENTENCE! Unbelievable... Comprehensive collection can be purchased here... https://amzn.to/2KkYhAJ TEXT: http://kingencyclopedia.stanford.edu/encyclopedia/documentsentry/doc_the_drum_major_instinct/ Synopsis: King's "Drum Major Instinct" sermon, given on 4 February 1968, was an adaptation of the 1952 homily ''Drum-Major Instincts'' by J. Wallace Hamilton. King encouraged his congregation to seek greatness, but to do so through service and love. King concluded the sermon by imagining his own funeral, downplaying his famous achievements and emphasizing his heart to do right.

It’s Official: Republicans Are Trying To Destroy The Federal Government

05:14
On Friday evening, Republicans in the Senate put forth their “finalized” version of the tax cut bill, complete with hand-written changes to the law because they couldn’t be bothered to make actual edits. The nearly-500 page piece of legislation was voted on at 2am, which didn’t allow Democrats any time to fully read or understand the legislation. This is not how the government is supposed to work, but that doesn’t matter to Republicans, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins points out.   Link – https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2017/12/02/handwriting-wall-and-page-senate-passes-tax-bill/915957001/ Ring of Fire needs your help! In the early hours of Saturday morning this past week, in fact at around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning this past week, Republicans in the Senate voted by 51 to 49 to pass their disgusting tax cut package for the rich. Not a single Democrat supported this piece of legislation nor did any of the independents in the Senate. Now, what was very interesting about this is that at 8:30 p.m. Friday evening, they released the final piece of legislation so that everybody could take a look at it. What happened was that they needed to make some changes, but instead of getting on a computer and making the changes to the document, these morons decided to do it by hand. They had X'd out entire portions of the legislation. They had handwritten little notes in there like, "Add this. Subtract this. This is the amendment." That was the piece of legislation that these idiots decided to pass at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. It wasn't finalized. Technically it wasn't even saved anywhere. They wrote it on the actual printed out copies. Here's what this means. Aside from the fact that it's going to tank the economy, screw over the working class in the United States, we're all going to pay more money. They get more back. We all know that. But what this shows is that Republicans are intentionally breaking democracy and that is exactly what they've always wanted to do. It has been a pillar of the American Republican Party for decades now to shrink the federal government to essentially destroy it. As Grover Norquist says, "To make it so small that you can drown it in a bathtub." Republicans don't care about these institutions that have been running since the very first day that the United States was officially a country. They don't care about the longstanding traditions. They don't care about the rights and the rules that come along with holding those offices. All they know is that back in 2010 a Supreme Court decision came down in the Citizens United case that allowed them to receive unlimited corporate money for their campaigns. Ever since that day, and to be honest probably even a little before that, but ever since that particular day, they threw all pretense out the window and they made it abundantly clear at every given opportunity that their only goal as legislators is to make their corporate donors wealthier. That is what this tax bill is about and that is what the assault on the federal government is about and that is exactly what it is. This is an assault on our governing institutions. This is an assault on American democracy, on the Senate itself, on the House itself and certainly on the presidency itself. They will do whatever it takes. They will destroy whatever regulation, pass whatever horrible piece of legislation no matter how much it screws over everyone else. If it gives one extra dime to their donors, they are going to support it because they don't care about the American public. They don't care about the position that they hold. They don't care about the responsibilities that go along with it. All they care about is who is going to fill their campaign coffers the next time they come knocking for reelection. Those are the people that these men represent and women. A few weeks ago, a few months ago, whatever it was, when we had a few Republicans who made a good decision to kill the repeal and replace attempt by Republicans, Murkowski, Collins, McCain, all of that grandstanding that these folks did flake with this constant attack on the president. It meant nothing. It was window dressing. All of these jack assess just turned around on Friday or, excuse me, Saturday morning and voted for this tax cut bill that's going to strip people of their health insurance. I believe about 14 million people stand to lose their health insurance as a result of this piece of legislation.

“Love Prevails”: Floridians Celebrate Massive Restoration of Voting Rights to People with Felonies

10:11
https://democracynow.org - At least 1.4 million people have regained the right to vote in Florida, following the passage of Amendment 4, a statewide initiative to re-enfranchise people with felony convictions who have completed their sentences, excluding people convicted of murder or sex offenses. The amendment passed overwhelmingly, with 64.5 percent of the vote. It needed 60 percent to pass. The win will permanently alter politics in a state that elected Republican Ron DeSantis as Florida governor by just over 55,000 votes, according to the latest numbers. DeSantis defeated Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, who was vying to be the first African-American governor in Florida’s history. We speak with Desmond Meade, who spearheaded the fight for Amendment 4. Desmond Meade is the president of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition. He’s also chair of Floridians for a Fair Democracy. He is one of some 1.4 million people who has just regained his right to vote. Will House Republicans "Jump Off the Cliff" and Cut Healthcare for 24 Million Americans?

15:32
http://democracynow.org - As President Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan face a showdown with Republicans, both moderate and conservative, on whether to repeal Obamacare, the party has been scrambling to rewrite the legislation in order to appease members of the right-wing Freedom Caucus and win its passage. The latest version of the bill strips away provisions that would require health insurers to provide basic services including maternity care, newborn care, emergency services, mental health and addiction treatment. The Democratic Caucus has been united in opposition to the bill, which is projected to leave 24 million fewer people insured by 2026 than under Obamacare. The bill also includes over $275 billion in tax breaks for wealthy Americans. We are joined by John McDonough, professor at the Harvard School of Public Health. He is the former executive director of Health Care for All in Massachusetts, which played a key role in the passage of the 2006 Massachusetts health reform bill, which was known as Romneycare. He later became a top aide to the late Senator Ted Kennedy and worked on the development and passage of the Affordable Care Act.
