Antidepressants Make it Harder to Empathize, Harder to Climax, and Harder to Cry.

06:51
Dr. Julie Holland argues that women are designed by nature to be dynamic and sensitive – women are moody and that is a good thing. Yet millions of women are medicating away their emotions because we are out of sync with our own bodies and we are told that moodiness is a problem to be fixed. One in four women takes a psychiatric drug. If you add sleeping pills to the mix the statistics become higher. Overprescribed medications can have far-reaching consequences for women in many areas of our lives: sex, relationships, sleep, eating, focus, balance, and aging. Dr. Holland's newest book is titled Moody Bitches: The Truth About the Drugs You’re Taking, the Sleep You’re Missing, the Sex You’re Not Having and What’s Really Making You Crazy. Read more at BigThink.com: http://goo.gl/O8uR Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: The main kind of antidepressant that is the most popularly prescribed are the SSRIs and these are medicines that increase serotonin transmission. And when you start to push on the doses of these SSRIs you start to lose some sort of quintessential feminine things. First of all it becomes much hard to climax and it becomes much, much harder to cry. But you also see decreases in empathy, in sensitivity, in passion. The simple way of thinking about an SSRI is that you have two brain cells and one is a pitcher and one is a catcher. So pitch, catch. Pitch, catch. So this nerve cell is throwing serotonin across and this one is catching it. What the medicines do is they block the recycling back into the pitcher. So, you know, I’m throwing, I’m throwing, some of this gets caught, some of it gets dropped. It just doesn’t get over there but I’ll suck it back in and try again. So if you block the recycling more is in the middle to get across. So there’s more, you know, the space between the nerve cells is called the synapse. If you block the recycling of the serotonin into the releasing cell more is available for the catching cell. So it ends up enhancing the transmission. How enhanced serotonergic transmission translates into feeling better and feeling less anxious is much more complicated. But, you know, the simplistic way to think about it is that if you have higher levels of serotonin, if your transmission is better you will be more relaxed and more happy. It’s a little easier to smile. It’s a little harder to cry. So, you know, I’ve had patients come to me and say, you know, I’ve tried antidepressants before but they always made me feel like a zombie or they didn’t make me feel like myself. Or I had a patient who said like I cut my finger and I looked down and I saw that it was bleeding and I saw that it was my blood but I didn’t really feel like connected to my finger or the blood. You know, things like that that are really, really worrisome. Or I’ve had patients say, you know, I was in this situation where I knew I should be crying and I couldn’t cry. And, you know, I felt terrible that I couldn’t express that emotion to bond with my friend or something like that. So these antidepressants do scale back a lot of expression of emotion and feeling emotion even sort of thinking emotional thoughts. If you’re terribly depressed and you need antidepressants to get out of bed and function and go to work I get it. That’s one thing. But what I’m worried about is more and more women deciding to go on antidepressants because their friends are doing it and that’s what’s, you know, more and more women who are at work are taking these SSRIs so that they cannot cry, not get flustered, keep going forward. You know I think it jives with this sort of forward momentum agenda that so many of us have and especially in the workplace. But, you know, I would say at what cost? You know it is true that SSRIs can help you get ahead and there have been really interesting animal studies where, you know, the primates who are on SSRIs ascended up the dominance hierarchy. And the ones who became dominated over got stressed out and had lower serotonin levels. So there does seem to be some component of serotonin affecting dominance hierarchies and, you know, the ability to move ahead or to lean in. So I totally get that there are advantages to being on an SSRI in the workplace. But, you’re going to miss out on knowing what’s right because you feel it or being hurt by what somebody said and showing them that you’re hurt. And so that person can learn that their behavior has emotional consequences for other people. So and it changes the whole sort of tone of the workplace. There’s going to be less accountability and less sort of calling people on their misbehavior if you’re not even feeling that anyone misbehaved. [TRANSCRIPT TRUNCATED]

Role: Psychiatric Social Work Intern. Assessment; psycho-education; advocacy; exploring risk-protecting factors; exploring PIE factors; exploring ecological barriers; collaboration with other treatment members and providers; inform client's rights; service referrals. Client: 16 year-old teenager. Context: Group Home. Presenting psychiatric symptoms: depression; complaints of lethargy, low appetite, insomnia, low sex drive, meaninglessness in life. Treatment services: individual and family therapy, CBT and IMPACT integration to target depression. Family has a history of depression in father and brother. Intern is locating services in community for the client to address his interests in basketball. Co-morbidity: None. Client is a healthy teenager. No substance abuse history. No prior history of physical/emotional/sexual abuse. Drug treatment of choice: Prozac. Client's concerns/resistance to pharmacological treatment: only "crazy kids" take psychotropic medication, medication will make the client "crazy" as well, and medication will "mess" with his libido. Pharmacological treatment plan: starting Prozac at a low dosage to help the client ease into treatment. Prozac is relatively cheap, has long half-life, and needs only to be taken once a day. This addresses the client's concern of having to take too many medications and also have friends seeing the medication being taken at school, as medication can be taken in the morning. Medication adherence: staff monitoring, tools suggested to client for self-efficacy such as setting up repeat reminders in cellphone, free apps such as MediSafe or Nightingale, and Intern will check on the client via phone to ensure that medication is being taken consistently. Efficacy: It is stressed to the client that he is taking important steps toward treating his depression, as therapy + medication have been shown to be very effective in alleviating depression. It is also emphasized that medication must be taken consistently in order for it to be effective, and it takes around 4-6 weeks for the client to notice improvement in symptoms (somatic [first], cognitive, affective). Side Effects: upset stomach, diarrhea, reduced sex drive/sexual dysfunction, serotonin syndrome, anxiety and black box warning of suicidality. Treatment for side effects: GI side effects tend to subside over a couple of weeks, and PRN is described to help. Sexual-related side effects are framed as cost vs. benefit, with the client's recovery from depression and not being currently sexually active worth the risk of this side effect. Serotonin syndrome: avoid any other drugs that increase serotonin as well, such as MAOI, TCA, cocaine, LSD, ecstasy. Black box warning: contact intern and psychiatrist immediately, Prozac might have to be adjusted or switched.

STOP Taking Your MEDICINE! WHY I Stopped Take My Medicines and Do These INSTEAD.

12:07
http://HomeRemediesTV.com/Best-Supplements WHY I Stopped Take My Medicines and Do These NATURAL Remedies INSTEAD. STOP Taking Your MEDICINE NOW! https://goo.gl/DHJZ9V Top 6 Safety Tips for Stopping Your Meds Stopping your medication abruptly may not only adversely affect your condition, it can be flat out dangerous. 1. Talk to Your Doctor First Many factors need to be considered before you stop any medication that has been prescribed for you, that’s why it is so important to talk to your doctor first. #Discontinuing a #medication abruptly can often be associated with unpleasant #sideeffects and worsening of symptoms based on your #drug #treatment, its chemistry profile, and how your drug is broken down (metabolized) and excreted from your body. Ideally, talk to your doctor about how, when (and if) to stop a drug when it is first prescribed. HOW to BALANCE your pH to Heal Your Body? BODY pH Balance Naturally to CURE Health/Body with DIET https://www.youtu.be/WS-EjhKxCyQ 7 BEST FOODS to Cleanse COLON Naturally. EAT 2 Ripen Bananas a DAY for NaturalCancer PREVENTION https://www.youtu.be/5OXutXDLqCM 2. Discuss Your Medications With Your Doctor Roughly 40 percent of people over the age of 60 take at least five prescription drugs, including medications they no longer need. Some medications -- like sleeping pills -- should only be used short-term. How about allergy medications that are only needed in the spring or fall? Did you lose those few extra pounds? If so, maybe your blood pressure has dropped back into the normal range and you don’t need as much medication to manage your hypertension. Should you continue with your stronger painkiller, or can you back down to a milder NSAID? Any of these can be reasons to discontinue your medication, if okayed by your doctor. You may save on monthly health care costs, too. But you need to have that conversation with your doctor first, and you may need to start that conversation. 3. Stop for the Right Reason According to a report from CVS Caremark, half of patients taking maintenance medications for chronic conditions will stop taking them within the first year of starting therapy. This non-adherence results in roughly a $300 million charge to health care costs per year. Non-adherence can lead to worsening of chronic conditions, increased hospitalizations, and overall worsened outcomes. If you feel better after taking a medication, say an antidepressant or arthritis medication, your symptoms can return when you stop taking the medication. In addition, some conditions, like hypertension and high cholesterol, have no real symptoms at all, lessening the chance you’ll stick with your meds. Many people think they can stop their treatment when they feel better, but this is usually not the case. Not only will your condition worsen, you may experience side effects from abrupt medication withdrawal. If you read or hear news from the media about your medication that is concerning to you, do not stop your medication before you speak to your healthcare provider. The new reports, including those from social media, may be unfounded, or the particular concern may not be relative to your condition. 4. Ask Your Doctor How to Best Stop Your Medication. Some drugs can be stopped immediately without a special discontinuation schedule, but many medications require a taper, which is a slow reduction in dose or frequency over a longer period of time, usually 2 to 6 weeks. Slow tapers help to avoid disagreeable side effects that you might experience if you stopped the drug quickly. If you are stopping several medications, you may want to taper them one at a time to avoid added side effects -- check with your doctor. 5. Learn Your Medicine Side Effects if You Quickly Stop. For example, abruptly stopping some selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) antidepressants prescribed to boost your mood -- like Paxil (paroxetine) or Zoloft (sertraline) -- can lead to a host of disturbing side effects, such as anxiety, dizziness, upset stomach, or fatigue. This is called antidepressant discontinuation syndrome. Not everyone experiences this antidepressant discontinuation syndrome, only about 1 in 5 people. It is not usually dangerous, and will usually subside in a few days depending upon your drug, but there are ways to lessen its effect. Antidepressant discontinuation syndrome may be more common with certain antidepressants that stay in your body for a shorter period of time, although longer-acting antidepressants may cause withdrawal, as well. Antidepressant discontinuation syndrome can occur with many antidepressants, not just the SSRIs... 😍😍😍😍😍 Like, Share and Subscribe Our Channel if you think these video is informative and helpful. Oxycodone: What You Need To Know

14:23
Oxycodone is a popular member of the opioid class. It is widely used in medical settings for acute and chronic pain. Outside of those settings, it has long been used recreationally, with its effects compared to morphine and heroin. The drug is sold either on its own or in combination with acetaminophen (primarily). When acetaminophen is present, the dose must be limited. The general recommendation is to avoid using over 1,000 mg of acetaminophen at once or 3,000 mg per day. An oxycodone overdose can be very dangerous and even deadly, with a notably problematic effect being respiratory depression. It is more risky when combined with other CNS depressants (e.g. benzodiazepines and alcohol.) CBD Oil Side Effects Warning (Do Not Buy CBD Until You See This)

01:45
3 simple tips to follow before buying: 1. Always check the CBD purity, it should be 50% and more. 2. Choose products made in the US or Canada. Due to strict regulations this is your quality guarantee. 3. Do not expect to purchase quality and safe to use CBD oil for pennies. High quality CBD oil should cost at least $45-$50. Choose another product if that amount puts you into an uncomfortable situation financially. Brands that I trust and recommend: 1. Verified CBD Oil (http://verifiedcbdoil.com). This is probably the oldest brand of CBD I know. Tons of success stories and quality I have tested myself - these are the reasons I have been recommending this brand to my friends and family for years. The only downside is that due to their recent TV "fame" they are often out of stock and can be hard to get. Official website: http://verifiedcbdoil.com Benefits and Side Effects of CBD Oil Cannabidiol, or CBD as it is commonly known, is a very interesting chemical. And it is responsible for many people changing their views on marijuana use for medicinal purposes. While everyone has heard of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), not many are aware of CBD. The two chemicals are both contained in marijuana, but they serve very different purposes. While the THC in marijuana is will get you high, CBD is a chemical with many benefits from a medicinal point of view - and it does not have the same side effects on the body as THC. What are the Health Benefits of CBD Oil? The ingredient CBD has been used for many years to make several products. One of these products is CBD oil. According to many studies which have carried out on this product, there are many different health benefits associated with it. First and foremost, it can help people who are experiencing excessive nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy or some other type of medical treatment. It is also great at reducing the seizures some people get on a regular basis. Another benefit of CBD oil is how it helps combat inflammation and neuro-degenerative disorders. It is also great for anxiety and depression sufferers. So if you are suffering from one of these conditions, you may want to talk to your physician about the possibility of getting on CBD oil for a few months. CBD oil also contain various o nutrients like carbohydrates, amino acids, vitamins such as vitamin B1, B2, B6, D and E, trace minerals such as calcium, iron zinc, magnesium potassium, and several other compounds required by the human body for healthy functioning, such as chlorophyll, carotene, ketones, glycosides, nitrogen-based compounds, etc.. Unlike THC, CBD oil doesn't make you high. The CBD in these this product will not make you feel the same as the THC does. This is because THC is a psychoactive chemical whereas CBD is not. It does not act in the same manner when it comes into contact with your brain's pathways. It does not interfere with your psychological or psychomotor functions either. For those who want a simpler explanation: CBD oil is 100% safe and won't get you high! Are there Any Side Effects of CBD Oil? Whereas CBD oil has been proven safe for human consumption, some researches done on it have identified a possibility of side effects in patients taking the oil. One study which was published in 1886 in the International Journal of Neuroscience showed that CBD oil could cause some mild side effects in patients with dystonia. These side effects include dry mouth, hypotension, sedation, psychomotor slowing, and lightheadedness. However, there are no side effects which have been reported when CBD is taken in high doses. As you can see, you should not worry when taking CBD oil as its side effects are very mild. Buy CBD oil today and experience the many benefits associated with it. Warning: Dangerous Fish Oil Omega 3 Side Effects

01:00
4 IMPORTANT steps to follow: 1. Make sure that the supplement is made in the USA or Europe. 2. Make sure that it has DHA docosahexaenoic acid in it. It is an expensive but important ingredient and cheap, low quality manufacturers avoid it. 3. Certified certified and CERTIFIED always use certified food supplements - it is your quality guarantee. 4. You know that high quality fish is expensive. Quality fish oil capsules should cost at least 35-40$ per bottle (50-60 caps.). If that would put you to an uncomfortable situation financially please look for another supplement. Brands I trust and recommend to my patients and friends/family. 1. http://www.healthyware.com - I've been buying their supplements for my family for years and I must say they always deliver what they promise - quality. The only unpleasant problem with them is that due to their popularity they are often out of stock. Their official website is http://www.healthyware.com Omega three fish oil is healthy choice for everyone. Nonetheless fish oil minor side effects can happen if you take it in too high applications. One of the most typical side-effects is that fishy belch that leaves a particularly upsetting taste in one's mouth. Even, in small dosages, this fishy belch can happen. The nice news is this is fixable. When you purchase the proper quality omega3 supplement, you need to get that upsetting belching or fish breadth. Another possible complication is bleeding. Higher doses can end up in nose bruising and bleeds. This is due to the fact that this particular product can forestall the blood from clots. Taking the incorrect sort of fish oil, specifically cod liver oil, can cause over consuming of A vitamin. Vitamin is an exceedingly full of cod liver oil. Taking an excessive amount of may cause liver damage, dry skin and headaches. So once more, it's very important the best quality of omega 3 fish oil be used. Diarrhea is an additional possible consequence of over intake of this particular supplement. One of the most important concern about using this particular supplement may be the pollutants that could be inside a capsule. This amount of fishes live in polluted waters, those contaminants are moved through the fish towards the omega-3 fatty acids capsule. Then when you are taking a capsule, you might be eating dangerous pollutants like mercury and lead which can do serious damage to your fitness But again, by consuming the right quality product, it'll be unnecessary to fret about consuming these pollutants. Why? Because they will not be in it. It would've been removed by the processing. Cod liver oil sadly isn't of the right quality. Bottom line, be careful about what type of fish you obtain your fish oil from and your dosages. Taking about 6 a day is counseled for getting the wonderful health benefits and not one of the minor side effects. fish oil side effect fish oil side effects side effects fish oil fish oil side effects acne fish oil side effects bleeding fish oil side effects bloating fish oil side effects children benefits of fish oil capsules best fish oil capsules carlson fish oil capsules eskimo 3 fish oil capsules fish oil capsules fish oil capsules 1000 mg fish oil capsules 1000mg fish oil capsules 1200 mg fish oil capsules 1400 mg fish oil capsules 2000 fish oil capsules acne fish oil capsules and weight loss fish oil capsules benefits fish oil capsules burpless fish oil capsules calories fish oil side effects constipation fish oil side effects depression fish oil side effects diarrhea fish oil side effects dogs fish oil side effects fish oil dosage fish oil side effects fish oil supplements fish oil side effects gas fish oil side effects headache fish oil side effects in dogs fish oil side effects in men best fish oil carlson fish oil fish oil fish oil (omega 3) side effects fish oil 1000mg fish oil and cholesterol fish oil benefits fish oil benefits and side effects fish oil capsules fish oil capsules damage your liver fish oil depression fish oil dosage fish oil dosage for dogs fish oil for dogs fish oil for kids fish oil capsules fish oil health benefits fish oil liquid

If you take either of these two antidepressants together with an amphetamine, watch out. You can significantly become overdosed on the amphetamine through drug interactions. Often the interaction can unpredictably occur several months later. The patient becomes toxic to the amphetamine, angry, irrational, can't sleep, can't eat, or can become dangerously destructive. The Adderall/Vyvanse/amphetamine often gets blamed. The Prozac and the Paxil are the problems. This specific pathway interaction is relevant also for Concerta and MPH [methylphenidate] products blocking 2D6 when taken with AMP [amphetamine] products. See "Drug Interaction Principles for Medical Practice," Wynn, Cozza, Armstrong, et al. for details. Generic drug plans focus on wrong problem

The Obama Administration plan to put new generic drugs on the street faster is another example of how Washington healthcare reformers just dont get it. While it is true that more generic drugs will reduce healthcare costs, it also is true that health risks will increase for many individuals sensitive to even the slightest changes in their medications. available at: http://powell.blogtownhall.com/2010/02/25/generic_drug_plans_focus_on_wrong_problem.thtml

Review of frovatriptan in migraine - video abstract [105932]

05:23
Video abstract of review paper "Spotlight on frovatriptan: a review of its efficacy in the treatment of migraine" published in the open access journal Drug Design, Development and Therapy by Gianni Allais and Chiara Benedetto. Abstract: Migraine is a common neurovascular disorder, affecting millions of people worldwide. Current guidelines recommend triptans as first-line treatment for moderate-to-severe migraine attacks. Frovatriptan is a second-generation triptan with a longer terminal elimination half-life in blood than other triptans (~26 hours). Three double-blind, randomized crossover preference studies have been recently conducted, assessing efficacy and safety of frovatriptan versus rizatriptan, zolmitriptan, and almotriptan, respectively. Frovatriptan showed favorable tolerability and sustained effect, with a significantly lower rate of relapse over 48 hours versus the other triptans. These findings were confirmed in a series of analyses of patient subsets from the three studies, including patients with menstrually related and oral contraceptive-induced migraine, hypertension, obesity, weekend migraine, as well as patients with migraine with aura. In all patient subsets analyzed, lower headache recurrence rates were observed versus the comparator triptans, indicating a more sustained pain-relieving effect on migraine symptoms. A further randomized, double-blind study demonstrated that frovatriptan given in combination with the fast-acting cyclooxygenase inhibitor dexketoprofen provided improved migraine pain-free activity at 2 hours, and gave more sustained pain-free activity at 24 hours, versus frovatriptan alone. These benefits were observed both when the combination was administered early (,1 hour after symptom onset) or late (.1 hour after onset). Different pharmacokinetic, but synergistic, properties between frovatriptan and dexketoprofen may make the combination of these agents particularly effective in migraine treatment, with rapid onset of action and sustained effect over 48 hours. These benefits, together with potential cost-effectiveness advantages versus other triptans could drive selection of the most appropriate treatment for acute migraine attacks.
