I was tired of dumping my oxidized vitamin C serum down the drain every 3 months, so I tried a little experiment so see if I could keep it fresher longer... and it worked! Why use Vitamin C, How to tell if it's Oxydized, Where I buy it: What Vitamin C does for your skin: it's one of the most potent and effective antioxidants. It combats free radicals which damage your skin, and helps you to make more collagen, both great anti-agers. On the surface it's effects are subtle, but it can add brightness and fade some discolorations. How to tell if Vitamin C serum's oxidized: it turns yellow/brown, should be clear or whitish. I'm Natalia Rose. And today, we're going to talk about how long homemade juices will last. Most homemade juices are made by centrifugal juicer, which heats up the juice slightly while it's being made. This is why you want to consume a centrifugally processed juice as soon after making it as possible. As soon as it's made, the juice will start to oxidize. The more it's exposed to air, the quicker it will oxidize. Now, there are a few tricks to help your juice last longer. One that would be to make sure that you put it in a container that is very well sealed and doesn't have any extra air in it. So fill it up to the top of the container as possible so that it exposes little air as possible. Another thing you can do if you want your juice to last a couple of days would be to immediately freeze it. Freezing a juice will compromise its enzymatic activity a bit, but it will enable most of the juice to stay in integrity and certainly will enable to last a whole lot longer. The other type of juicer would be a cold press juicer like a Norwalk Press. As more and more people are juicing, more and more people are using the Norwalk Press at home, which is more of a commercial juicer. But the great thing about the Norwalk Press Juicer, the cold press juicing, is it enables the enzymes to stay intact for a much longer duration. Adding lemon or lime to your juice will extend its duration as well because of the citric acid. And a green juice that has no fruit in it will last longer than a green juice that does have fruit in it. So those are a few things you can keep in mind. One way to test and see whether your juice is still fresh just simply to taste it. If there's any fermentation, it's past its prime. If you do choose to consume a juice made from a centrifugal force juicer, the next day, the juice won't be bad by any means. It will just have significantly lost its vitality. So it's still safe to consume and can be fairly beneficial, it will have some vitality, and it will still be full of chlorophyll, but it just won't have the same zip, the same life force it would have immediately upon consumption.

While it’s gaining in popularity in recent years, not everyone has heard of ghee; it’s a powerhouse of vitamins and acids which promote good health. Ghee is its own unique class of butter. When butter is boiled, milk solids caramelize and are removed. Ghee is the concentrated residue of pure fats that remains. It has a distinct nutty taste, and contains no trace of milk proteins, sugars or water. It is one of the highest food sources of butyric acid and is bursting with vitamins and fatty acids, both unsaturated and saturated. It also loaded with omega 3 and 9. Similar to butter, ghee must be consumed in moderation - no more than 3 or 4 teaspoons daily. Too much ghee can produce harmful effects. In today’s video, we will describe eight health benefits of including ghee in your diet. 1. Builds Strong Bones Ghee is one of the few foods that is rich in vitamin K, especially vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 is essential in helping the body utilize minerals, including calcium. In fact, this potent vitamin builds bones more efficiently than calcium. Maintaining a proper level can also protect against tooth decay. Another function of ghee is to keep joints and connective tissues lubricated, increasing flexibility. 2. Immune System Booster Ghee is brimming with vitamin A, which helps eliminate free radicals in the body. Vitamin A is also tasked with keeping the immune system functioning properly. That’s not all; vitamin A is a powerful antioxidant that may help prevent certain types of cancer, especially ulcerative colitis that could otherwise lead to colon cancer. 3. Boosts Energy Level Since experts recommend that athletes use ghee as a consistent energy source, perhaps we should take the same advice. The fatty acids in ghee are quickly processed by the liver and burned as energy. Besides boosting metabolism and energy levels, ghee aids in the body’s absorption of fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E and K, which enhance stamina. 4. High Smoking Point While being processed, ghee can endure a higher “smoking point” compared to coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil. This means when the temperature rises to the stratosphere – or 482 Fahrenheit – it won’t break into free radicals. These villainous free radicals are unstable molecules that create havoc on our health, from premature aging to cancer. So when you consume ghee, your risk level of ingesting those villains are extremely low. 5. Improves the Digestive Tract A 2000 study revealed that people with unhealthy digestive tracts don’t naturally produce butyric acid. Since good digestion is a key to good health, it’s essential to incorporate foods rich in butyric acid into your diet to aid digestion. 6. Reduces Inflammation Butyric acid is one of the major fatty acids that the body needs to fight inflammation, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Patients suffering from ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease or other inflammatory bowel diseases would be wise to include ghee in their diet. 7. Improves Eye Health Vitamin A makes the list because of its ability to improve eye health and protect against several eye-related health problems. This powerful antioxidant aids in eliminating and neutralizing free radicals that attack the macular cells. 8. Healthier Skin Ghee’s natural properties can keep skin moisturized over a long period of time. It penetrates deep into the skin to keep it hydrated; dry skin accelerates premature aging, including wrinkles, fine lines and saggy skin. Here’s how to apply ghee: Warm a small amount of ghee until it’s at a comfortable temperature and generously apply to your skin. Massage thoroughly for five minutes. Wait ten minutes before showering. Following this procedure daily will create lasting, glowing skin. To treat chapped lips, apply a thin film and leave on overnight. You can store ghee without refrigeration for years and it will still remain fresh. Since the milk solids have been removed during the processing, ghee can be safely consumed by people who are lactose intolerant. Ghee is also an alternative for those who looking for a butter substitute. What happens if you don't eat for a week with an extended fasting weight loss plan? Find out how fasting effects your body and brain from long term prolonged fasting. If you're planning a water fast and want to transition from intermittent fasting this video will help. 🔥 FREE 6 Week Challenge: https://gravitytransformation.com Fat Loss Calculator: http://gravitytransformation.com/macro-calculator/ 382 Day Fast Study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2495396/pdf/postmedj00315-0056.pdf Health benefits of fasting study: http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/exchange/node/1834 Fasting has been steadily growing in popularity and a lot of people have questions about extended longer duration fasting. Unlike intermittent fasting this will typically involve not eating for a couple days. And most people immediately dismiss this as a viable option for Fat Loss and weight loss because there are so many myths surrounding this topic. People are worried about losing their muscle mass, they're worried about slowing down their metabolism, and they're worried about their health and well-being in general. So in today's video I want to go over exactly what will happen to your body if you don't eat anything for 7 days straight. If you're looking to burn some fat lose some weight or if you're just looking to try an extended fast I highly recommend you stay with me through this video because I can tell you exactly what to expect and help settle the myths and doubts in your mind about a longer-term fast. First off let me start by saying that you shouldn't just jump into a 7 day long fast without first getting used to shorter fasting intervals like intermittent fasting, the warrior diet, and the one meal a day diet. I recommend you first try to fast for only two days however, even if you did do a 7 day fast contrary to what a lot of you may think you're not going to just drop dead. Your body is very good at conserving energy when it doesn't have access to food. This is how Ghandi at 74 years old was able to go on a 21 day hunger strike and not starve to death. When you fast for an extended duration your body will mostly use stored body fat for energy. And even though Ghandi was already pretty lean before his fast he was able to complete all 21 days. For most of us we consider a normal diet as one in which we eat every couple hours. However, before the invention of things like farming and refrigeration our distant ancestors would experience long periods of fasting followed by periods of feeding when food became available. So most people are actually very capable of fasting for 5 to ten days without much of a problem even though a lot of people think they'll practically die from starvation just by just skipping a meal or two. Just to drive this point home even further there was study conducted by researchers from a University in Scotland that was published in 1973. In this study an extremely obese 27 year old man fasted for 382 days. And believe it or not he didn't drop dead. He actually went from weighing 456 pounds............ to 180 pounds. Such a long fast could obviously only be achieved under the supervision of doctors with the use of vitamin supplements like yeast, sodium, and potassium, but the amazing thing is that the researchers followed this man for 5 years after his fast ended and he managed to maintain his weight.... never crossing back above 200 pounds again. Studies like this completely disprove the myth that your metabolism will shutdown and won't ever function normally again just because you don't eat every couple hours or every couple days for that matter. A 7 day fast is definitely something that you can work up to overtime, so what should you expect to happen to your body over the course of one week of fasting. Well about 6 hours after your start the fast your body will completely finish digesting food and breaking down glycogen into glucose. That glucose is primarily used by your body for energy and even though it can last for up to 24 to 72 hours it will typically be depleted after just 6 hours. So for most people that's when you can expect sudden hunger pangs and food cravings to start kicking in. Also in this initial phase your mood will change because your body is still used to getting it's energy from glucose, so you can expect to be a little "hangry" in the beginning. These intense hunger pangs that can also come with the feeling of dizziness, weakness, and nausea, diminish after the first 2 days for women and can take 3 days for men. If you can overcome these first 3 days the hunger will dramatically decrease and your body will start to feel more energized. During these first 3 days you can expect to gradually burn off the glycogen reserves in your muscles and your liver. This will cause you to lose a good amount of water weight in the beginning because the carbohydrates that you would normally be eating retain water in the body. Also you will begin to switch over to using fat for energy.

This week Reactions explores the chemistry and science that goes on to the nutrients when you cook vegetables. Vegetables are chock-full of essential vitamins and minerals, but how should you eat them to get the most nutritious bang for your buck? Raw? Sauteed? Frozen? You might want to eat those fresh green beans right away, for one — flash-frozen green beans kept for months have up to three times more vitamin C than week-old beans kept in the fridge. And did you know that oil-based dressing and avocados can help you absorb more nutrients from that kale salad. You researched and choose good quality supplements. But now are you taking them at the right time and with the right foods or other supplements? Adjusting your supplement timing and learning how to match them up, could help you get a whole lot more out of these health helpers. Multivitamins contain an array of vital nutrients, including vitamins, minerals and amino acids. These vitamins can be fat soluble (like vitamins A, D E and K) or water soluble (like the B-complex vitamins and vitamin C). Fat-soluble vitamins are dissolved in fat, then delivered by your bloodstream. Excess vitamins are stored in your liver for future use. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water and aren’t stored by your body. They have to be replenished every day. Take your multivitamin within 30 minutes of a meal to help aid digestion and boost the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Don’t take your multivitamin too close to bedtime. Vitamins B12 and C, found in most multivitamins, can have stimulating, sleep-disrupting effects. Direct sun is one source of vitamin D; however, it’s easier for those with paler skin to produce vitamin D. A fair-skinned person can produce an adequate amount of vitamin D in 15 minutes of sunshine exposure, whereas a dark-skinned person could take up to two hours and that’s without sunscreen. Studies have shown that vitamin D3 decreases mortality. The body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium. Without enough vitamin D, one can’t form enough of the hormone calcitriol (known as the “active vitamin D”). This in turn leads to insufficient calcium absorption from the diet. Although vitamin D can be taken on an empty stomach, taking it with a meal that contains fats, such as dinner rather than breakfast may increase your absorption. Calcium supplements have long been synonymous with bone health. They’re also important for strong muscles and a healthy heart. A low intake of calcium and vitamin D can lead to osteoporosis in both women and men. Another group that may be deficient in calcium is nine- to 18-year-old girls. Spread out calcium intake, as the body can’t absorb a large amount all at once. Take no more than 500 mg at a time. Don’t take calcium with any other mineral supplements or with a multivitamin. If you’re on any medication, consult your health care practitioner before taking calcium; many medications compete with calcium for absorption. One of the most underrated minerals responsible for numerous cellular functions is magnesium. Magnesium is required for heartbeat and blood sugar regulation and healthy nerve and muscle functioning. Magnesium converts vitamin D into its active form so that it can help with calcium absorption. Since intestinal absorption tends to decrease with age, magnesium is essential for older adults. Magnesium supplements that can be applied to the skin are an option for people who find oral magnesium supplements irritate their intestinal lining. Leg cramps often experienced by pregnant women or at nighttime can respond well to topical magnesium as well. Take magnesium with food and apart from other minerals. Probiotics are all the rage because of their beneficial effects on the digestive and immune systems. To help ensure probiotics survive stomach acid for delivery to the intestines, researchers have developed a coating that is both heat and acid stable. The benefits of liquid probiotics is that liquids distribute healthy bacteria all along the digestive tract. However, most liquid preparations require refrigeration; otherwise, the supplement will lose its potency. Take probiotics with a meal containing healthy fats, or at least 30 minutes before the meal, for best absorption. Before taking an iron supplement, get a blood test performed by your health care practitioner. A blood test can determine the true level of iron in your blood and whether you need an iron supplement. Professional guidance is important, as excess iron intake can be harmful. Take iron with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, as vitamin C helps the body absorb iron in the gut and regulates iron uptake and metabolism. Take iron with food to reduce the risk of an upset stomach. Don’t take calcium supplements at the same time as iron supplements or iron-rich foods; calcium can decrease iron absorption. However, lately, there was a debate in some forums on the topic of whether we should refrigerate eggs or not. Different people have different habits and opinions, but the most of the people living in North America, Australia, or Japan do refrigerate eggs in their homes. T he remaining, smaller part just stores them at room temperature, out of the fridge. Those people who do not refrigerate their eggs risk to get bacteria called salmonella. According to the Journal of Food Protection, in vitro insertion of salmonella into eggs is more successful in non-cold eggs, compared to cold eggs. Still, the National Public Radio informs that eggs should not be kept in the fridge. As they claim, in the United States there are a lot of measures of protection undertaken in order to fight salmonella, such as inspections, washing, and tracking of eggs from the supplier to the store. In Europe, the most of the chickens are being vaccinated against this bacterium, which means that there is no actual need for people to worry about it. According to the FDA, vaccines are pretty efficient component of the program for prevention of Salmonella enteritidis. A technical information expert at the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspiration Service, Marianne Gravely suggests that eggs should not be kept at room temperature for more than two hours. According to her, there is no chance for us to know if an egg shell is pathogen-free. Furthermore, one of the bad things regarding the bacteria that cause food poisoning is that they do not affect the taste, the aroma, or the appearance of the food. In other words, no one can tell if a chicken is infested with salmonella or if the eggs coming from it contain this bacterium, regardless of the place you have bought the eggs (the grocery store, the farmer’s market, or the backyard of your neighbor). It is up to you to decide, but you should still know how to handle the food you consume. It is always better to prevent a health problem than to deal with it. Did you like the video? http://mamanatural.com/ We know our baby is ready for solid foods. We know the top first foods to start baby on. Now, we want to know how to prepare and store our baby food. Begin with organics We want to use organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible. Yes, they are pricey but they are worth the investment for your little baby. If you need to use conventional, be sure to avoid the dirty dozen (http://www.organic.org/articles/showarticle/article-214) and use a fruit and vegetable spray. Simple mash For some of our healthy baby first foods, all we need to do is peel and mash with a fork. No cooking required! This is true for our bananas, pears and avocados. Be sure to by these fruits ripe so it's easy for baby to digest. For younger babies, add water or breast milk to your mash to thin out consistency. Steaming your food For other healthy baby first foods like squashes and carrots, we'll need to steam these vegetables and then puree with blender. You can do this separately with a steam basket and immersion blender OR you can get a baby food maker that combines both of these functions like the Beaba (http://mamanatural.com/beaba-babycook-giveaway/). Use filtered water when you steam and save the leftover water, which is loaded with vitamins and minerals, to thin out vegetable puree OR use it in a sippy cup for baby to practice hand/eye coordination. Be sure to cook your veggies long enough so they are super soft and easy to digest for baby. We'll also want to let them veggies cool to room temperature before we feed baby. Storing your food Once we've made several baby food concoctions, we can keep them in our fridge for 1-3 days depending on the mixture. (Bananas and avocados don't last long!) Because of this short timeline, I think the best way to store baby food is to freeze it. Use ice cube trays, little plastic baggies, or my favorite, the Beaba multiportion freezer trays to store single servings of baby food. This makes preparing a serving for baby very easy. Just pop out single portion, heat up to room temperature, and serve. By freezing, we can make bulk quantities, saving time and energy, and yet ensuring that baby gets nutritious, homemade baby food every time. Enjoy and experiment Once you have the basics down, enjoy experimenting with different flavor combinations and you can even add some mild spices for baby. The more varied his/her diet, the better chances he/she'll embrace new flavors along the way. Our goal is to raise a toddler that enjoys his foods rather than turns his nose to anything new. How about you? What are the ways you cooked and stored your baby food? Any pointers that saved you time? Pregnant? I wouldn't have thought that supplements were such controversial of an issue, but they really are. Some believe they are useless. Other feel they are priceless. With all the strong opinions out there, I have decided to be mostly quiet on the issue. The thing is though that I fall into the latter category because while I was skeptical at first, I have seen AMAZING results with them. I was tired and low energy every day. I got sick often. I would take the doctors prescribed medicine and get worse, not better. Finally we started looking into alternatives. Game. Changed. Forever. While I know that at this point I would never go back, I have been on both sides of the fence so I understand why people are skeptical. I understand why people would think supplements are useless, my doctor told me that too! So if you disagree, please do so respectfully. Thank you. We all know that honey has a lot of health benefits, which is mainly due to the large number of vitamins and minerals that it contains. However, this is only true in pure honey and a lot of what you find at the supermarket is not pure honey. A lot of times, honey is mixed with glucose solutions or other honey with a high amount of water. This process is called being adulterated and it takes away from the health benefits that you receive from home. So, how can you tell if your honey is pure? Today we will discuss just that. 1. Solidification of the Honey Take a look at the bottle and see what the honey inside of it looks like. Overtime, all honey will crystallize into something looking like granulated sugar. If it is crystallized in the store, this is pure honey. If it is liquid, you could wait to see if it solidifies. Putting it in the refrigerator will speed up that process. If your honey never turns into crystals, then it is likely that you do not have pure honey on your hands. 2. Read the Label Before you purchase any products, you should always learn to read labels. Make sure that the ingredient list of the honey does not contain high-fructose corn syrup or glucose. These are two substances that are usually added to honey that keep it from solidifying. Companies also add this to the honey so that they get more honey out of their batch. 3. Test It There are other ways to test to see if your honey is pure: Mix some honey with water, then add four or five drops of vinegar. If the liquid turns foamy, that is not pure honey. It may have a substance called gypsum added to it. Mix a tablespoon of honey with water. If the honey dissolves easily, it is not pure, as pure honey should remain intact when dipped into water. Use a match to try and burn the honey, as pure honey will light up and burn due to the sugar content. Other low-quality honey usually contains water that will prevent it from lighting and burning. Put some honey onto a spoon and hold it up. If the honey falls quickly, then this is not pure honey. Good quality, pure honey, will stay on the spoon or fall ever so slowly. Use a small piece of old, stale bread and put it in honey. Leave it in for ten minutes and then pull it out of the honey. If the bread is still hard, then you have pure honey. If the honey has added water, the bread will be soggy. You can also use iodine to identify impure honey. Just mix honey, water and a few drops of iodine. If the mixture turns blue, then the honey has some sort of added flour or starch in it. Testing your honey will ensure that you have pure, unadulterated honey that will provide you with the health benefits of honey that you know of and care about. Do you buy honey often? Did you know that honey can be tampered with by manufacturer’s to better meet their bottom line, rather than your health? Sound off in our comment section to continue this discussion. Thank you guys so much for watching! Something I forgot to mention is that I would recommend seeing a doctor and getting a blood test done to see what vitamins and/or minerals your body is actually deficient in so you don't waste a bunch of money on supplements you don't need since you are getting them from your diet! A bit more on BCAAS, they stimulate protein synthesis and help you build muscle. If you are getting enough protein from your diet, BCAAS are pointless BUT taking them can’t hurt. I sometimes struggle with getting enough protein in so these are very helpful and I have seen a lot of progress since taking them. They are helpful when trying to drop fat because when you are eating in a deficit, it can be tough for some people to maintain their muscle and these can help do just that. They are helpful when trying to build muscle because they supplement your body with the amino acids it needs to build that muscle. Dr. Justin Shmalberg talks about the ability to store and safely feed freshly made NomNomNow dog food for over a week with proper refrigeration. You might wonder how these foods can last so long in the fridge if they're fresh diets. The ingredients within these diets have been carefully crafted to try to prevent spoilage and maintain freshness over a week or longer period. The extensive testing that has been done has isolated certain forms of bacteria that are within the foods, even after the preparation process, and ensurws that they stay at healthy levels and that there is nothing in the fresh dog food that is pathogenic to your pet. Through these microbiological testings, our team knows that our individual portions (once vacuum sealed, and stored in the fridge), will remain safe in the fridge for a week, and that even at the end of the week they will provide the same healthy nutrition that they did in the first week. There will be no appreciable loss to the nutrient profile, or the ability to provide the best nutrition for your individual animal. Coconuts come in different varieties. These are the three most popular varieties of coconuts that people eat and drink the coconut water from. I tell you the advantages and disadvantages of each type of coconut including mature brown coconuts, young Thai coconut, and Caribbean Coconut. I also tell where to get these coconuts. -------------------------- Visit Bill Farr on 🌺 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theartofunity/ 🌺 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theartofunity 🌺 Twitter https://twitter.com/BillyFarr 🌺 Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/TheArtofUnity/ 🌺 Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Theartofunity 💜 SUBSCRIBE on Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/c/theartofunity?sub_confirmation=1 -------------------------- I always prefer to get the young coconut over a mature one since there is more coconut water, it’s easier to get the meat in here to create the milk or just eat it, the young one’s are easier to open as I will show you, but there is also a higher nutritional value in young coconuts. These mature ones have more meat and in part 3 I show how to make coconut milk with both but the meat is harder and tougher to eat by itself from the mature coconuts. Why not just get a bottle of coconut water? Most all of them are pasteurized and this kills the enzymes and a lot of the vitamins and minerals. There is also no way of knowing if they are using young coconuts or mature ones since it’s just the coconut water you see. So it might start out with fewer nutrients. And they often have sugar and other added ingredients that are toxic or worthless for you and can upset your digestion such as carrageenan. If coconut water does not need to be refrigerated, it usually means it has been pasteurized Benefits of coconut water They have been shown to help with: • Weight loss, reducing cellulite, and to stop premature aging • Lowered blood pressure & cholesterol • Boosted energy & athletic performance • Relax muscle tension • It's great to put on your skin either topically and good for your skin when you drink it. • Helps with acid reflux • Helps with a hangover by replacing electrolytes and good for headaches • Anti-inflammatory and reduces plaque formation in arteries to lower heart attack and strokes. And since it’s very low allergic I highly recommend it. You can use the milk as a dairy replacement in coffee curries and cereal and I use it to make kefir as well. If you are going to buy it in a bottle look for organic, cold pressed, no added ingredients and not pasteurized. I would not bother getting it if it’s sweetened, concentrated or flavored with other juices or anything else since you lose the nutritional value. I don’t like any of the popular brands, so odds are the supermarket ones are not offering you the benefits we discussed. I’ll include a link in the blog for the ones I do like as well as the coconut milk brands I like. If you buy canned coconut milk, avoid cans made with BPA. In part 2 I show you the easiest way to open each one of these. And make coconut milk as well that is better than any store-bought brand I’ve had. The Cheese-making Process We make our Gouda with a native Dutch recipe and cheese culture shipped fresh from Wisconsin. The milk is pasteurized, and the culture is added to produce curds, which are cut by hand, packed in forms (called hoops), and pressed. The finished cheeses are immersed in salt brine, then cured in a refrigeration room where we turn and inspect them daily. During the first four days of production, a special rind is handpainted on each cheese. This allows the cheese to breathe while it ages. During the natural process of aging, the cheese takes on a richer flavor and color, ranging from soft yellow to a deep gold. Prior to shipment, we dip each cheese in a protective red wax coating. All this work is done by the Sisters: cheesemaking, packaging and shipping, as well as mail-order marketing. The Grade A milk is purchased through Dairy Farmers of America and delivered fresh from the farm (in all types of weather!) by the friendly truck drivers of Mountain Milk Hauling.

8 Impressive Benefits of Ghee Clarified Butter - Natural Health Cures While it’s gaining in popularity in recent years, not everyone has heard of ghee; it’s a powerhouse of vitamins and acids which promote good health. Alexandrine parrots, also known as Alexandrine parakeets, are named for Alexander the Great, who enjoyed having them in his palace. Their diet is the same as for all small parrots. However, since they are larger than typical parakeets, their fresh food can be slightly larger. With a diet high in fresh foods and low in seeds and nuts, Alexandrine parrots can live to be 20 or 30 years old. Varied Vegetables and Fruit To replicate the diet Alexandrine parrots consume in the wild, feed a variety of vegetables and fruits in their diet. To find out what they prefer, offer most of the varieties you eat. Feed raw cucumber, radishes, kale, corn, mustard greens, okra and zucchini. Cook asparagus, lentils, potatoes, yams, beans, pumpkin, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. Try fruits such as apples, bananas, berries, citrus, plums, pomegranate, and dried fruits like raisins, currants and figs. Cut fruits and vegetables into bite-size pieces; remove seeds, pits and the flesh directly around pits, as these can be toxic. Pelleted Parrot Mix Pellets are prepared from fresh fruits and vegetables and contain vital vitamins and minerals. Some brands are also colorful, to appeal to birds' natural curiosity. An Alexandrine parakeet who eats a varied, healthy diet doesn't need supplemental pellet food. However, providing pellets ensures a healthful diet in the event the bird doesn't like the fresh food offered. A bird who consumes mostly seeds should be fed more pellets. Add a few pellets to his seeds so he understands pellets are food. Once he starts eating them, gradually increase the amount of pellets while decreasing the amount of seeds until he is eating all pellets. Wholesome Grains Healthy, cooked grains can compose as much as 50 percent of an Alexandrine parrot's diet. Variety is important here, too. Choose brown and wild rice, oatmeal, buckwheat, kasha, quinoa, barley, wheat pasta and tortillas. Be sure any crackers, bagels, popcorn and pretzels you offer are salt-free. Dry cereals should be low in sugar -- consider rice, bran, wheat, and corn flakes and squares. Limited Meat and Dairy Alexandrine parrots should get a small amount of meat for protein. Chicken, beef, lamb, liver, turkey and fish are good choices. Give them meats you eat, as long as it is thoroughly cooked. Salmon and tuna are best canned and water-packed. Although parrots are lactose-intolerant, a small amount of dairy adds calcium to their nutrition. Cook cheese with pasta or other food. A small amount of yogurt is good, but Alexandrine parrots should never have milk. Seed and Nut Treats Alexandrines will eat an all-seed and -nut diet if given the opportunity. However, seeds and nuts are high in fat and oil, and should therefore be given sparingly. Try giving sunflower and pumpkin seeds, and shelled nuts such as almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts and peanuts as rewards during training. Some owners eschew peanuts, as they can harbor bacteria. Sprouted seeds are an exception; they should be given regularly, either purchased or grown yourself by moistening seeds. Warnings and What to Avoid Some foods can be toxic to parrots and should not be given, including avocado, raw beans, lettuce, cabbage, fruit pits, apple and pear seeds, and chocolate. Don't give sweets of any kind, nor alcohol or foods containing caffeine. Spinach is healthy in limited amounts. Onions, garlic, leeks and chives can potentially cause hemolytic anemia. Fresh foods can spoil quickly, so remove them after two hours. Refrigerate sprouts -- even refrigerated, sprouts can sour in only two days, so check for a sour odor before giving them.

The nutrients found in parsley are many, including: The vitamins, minerals and antioxidants found in parsley are known to help strengthen the immune system. The Vitamin A content helps to protect the surface of the eyes by keeping them moist. When Vitamin A is combined with other antioxidants, it can reduce the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration. Food rich in beta carotene such as spinach and carrots are even more beneficial when combined with parsley. Other carotenoids in parsley — lutein and zeaxanthin — are compounds that work hard to erase eye damage caused by environmental sources, such as UV radiation. These two carotenoids are known to reduce the risk of cataracts. Lutein works to inhibit biological processes that are known to be damaging to the retina. Parsley also boasts natural diuretic effects that helps to control various diseases such as kidney stones, urinary tract infections and gallbladder stones, and it possesses anti-inflammatory properties that treat toothaches, bruises, insect bites and other causes of inflammation, including rheumatoid arthritis. Parsley can provide much more than just a decoration on your plate. Parsley also supports a healthy heart, aids in maintaining strong and healthy bones, and can even be used to help control blood sugar levels in those suffering from diabetes. Adding parsley to your diet has numerous health benefits! When possible, choose fresh parsley over the dried form of the herb. It should be deep green in color, fresh and crisp. Does your skin have this unhealthy yellow hue? Use this to wash your face every evening to restore its lustre, remove all spots and give it a fair complexion! Rice water (used water after cleaning rice) is the magic tool for making your skin supple and beautiful. For people who spend long hours in front of the computer and especially ladies who frequently stay up late, the dark pigment of the skin (melanin) will slowly show itself on the surface layer of the skin. Rice is rich in nutrients. It has been said a person should daily eat at least one meal consisting of rice in order to enhance beauty. Actually rice water contains a lot of beauty-enhancing nutrients. This is because when cleaning rice, a lot of nutrients from the outer layer of the rice grains are being washed out. Rice water contains a lot of vitamins B and E. These are truly natural beauty enhancing elements. Rice water does not only clear away greasy dirt it can also remove dark pigments (melanin), thereby bringing moisturization and far complexion to the skin. This is especially so to ladies who daily spend long hours in front of the computer and stay up late at night. The melanin (dark pigmentation) in the skin can slowly appear on the outer layer of the skin. When this is compounded by shortage of moisture, the skin will slowly appear dark with an unhealthy yellow hue. Hence, at any time this whitening if the skin should not be overlooked. The nutrients found in the rice water can effectively address this skin hurting problem. But washing face with rice water requires tactics and know-how. Only using proper tactics of washing can make the skin lustrous and supple. Procedure 1: When cleaning rice, remember to discard the first-round used water. Even though it contains rich potassium and protein but it is also mildly acidic in nature. The second-round water is mildly alkaline. Therefore remember to use the second-round rice water. Procedure 2: Keep the second-round rice water in a basin together with the rice and let it settle for at least 1 hour. Use only the water and the rice can be cooked for your meal. Do not waste it. I would suggest you wash your face with facial cleanser at night, then use the rice water to softly pat on your face and skin. Procedure 3: Let it dry naturally and no need to wash it off. If you normally use skin care products, then let the skin dry up first before applying. Remember, rice water can be kept overnight but you must not keep it in the fridge for more than 2 days because it will deteriorate in quality. The rice bran oil found in the rice water is rich in Vitamin B and E which can protect the skin against ultraviolet sunlight radiation and also prevent melanin from forming, thus bringing about the whitening effect of the skin. Rice water can also effectively cause the yellow-brown spots (chloasma) to fade out. It is also suitable for sensitive skin. The starch, protein, vitamins and other nutrients dissolved in the rice water can break down the oil, lighten the colour and prevent milia from forming on the skin. Persistent use of rice water to wash face, clean hands can make the skin to become more fair and radiant. Rice water is very suitable for people with oily skin. After washing with rice water their faces will not appear excessively oily. Some people gave testimonies that it can remove milia (fat granules) from the skin. Remove pimples For people who have pimples, large pores and oily skin, the use of rice water does not only remove oil from the skin but it also does not irritate the skin. http://www.VermilionGrp.com: Fun and Tasty Vermilion Jelly for your daily health fix! Check out the Vermilion health supplements! Where East meets West. These unique jellies are blended with TCM herbs, supplement, nutraceuticals, vitamins and minerals. What’s not to love about jellies? Children love the way they wobble. It is a fun and great way to coax a child to eat something nutritious. Adults love the nostalgia associated with snacking on jellies. The elderly like the soft texture, which requires minimal chewing. Furthermore, our jellies are conveniently packed into small triple sealed strips. They are heat stable, do not require refrigeration and can be consumed in any situation. Who says healthy food has to be blend and boring? By flavouring them with natural fruit juice, teas and flavours, we turn a household favourite snack into a health supplement. Products in other interesting and tasty formats will also be soon available! For more info check out http://www.vermiliongrp.com/about-us/
