I'm Natalia Rose. And today, we're going to talk about how long homemade juices will last. Most homemade juices are made by centrifugal juicer, which heats up the juice slightly while it's being made. This is why you want to consume a centrifugally processed juice as soon after making it as possible. As soon as it's made, the juice will start to oxidize. The more it's exposed to air, the quicker it will oxidize. Now, there are a few tricks to help your juice last longer. One that would be to make sure that you put it in a container that is very well sealed and doesn't have any extra air in it. So fill it up to the top of the container as possible so that it exposes little air as possible. Another thing you can do if you want your juice to last a couple of days would be to immediately freeze it. Freezing a juice will compromise its enzymatic activity a bit, but it will enable most of the juice to stay in integrity and certainly will enable to last a whole lot longer. The other type of juicer would be a cold press juicer like a Norwalk Press. As more and more people are juicing, more and more people are using the Norwalk Press at home, which is more of a commercial juicer. But the great thing about the Norwalk Press Juicer, the cold press juicing, is it enables the enzymes to stay intact for a much longer duration. Adding lemon or lime to your juice will extend its duration as well because of the citric acid. And a green juice that has no fruit in it will last longer than a green juice that does have fruit in it. So those are a few things you can keep in mind. One way to test and see whether your juice is still fresh just simply to taste it. If there's any fermentation, it's past its prime. If you do choose to consume a juice made from a centrifugal force juicer, the next day, the juice won't be bad by any means. It will just have significantly lost its vitality. So it's still safe to consume and can be fairly beneficial, it will have some vitality, and it will still be full of chlorophyll, but it just won't have the same zip, the same life force it would have immediately upon consumption.

Unlike intermittent fasting this will typically involve not eating for a couple days. And most people immediately dismiss this as a viable option for Fat Loss and weight loss because there are so many myths surrounding this topic. People are worried about losing their muscle mass, they're worried about slowing down their metabolism, and they're worried about their health and well-being in general. So in today's video I want to go over exactly what will happen to your body if you don't eat anything for 7 days straight. If you're looking to burn some fat lose some weight or if you're just looking to try an extended fast I highly recommend you stay with me through this video because I can tell you exactly what to expect and help settle the myths and doubts in your mind about a longer-term fast. First off let me start by saying that you shouldn't just jump into a 7 day long fast without first getting used to shorter fasting intervals like intermittent fasting, the warrior diet, and the one meal a day diet. I recommend you first try to fast for only two days however, even if you did do a 7 day fast contrary to what a lot of you may think you're not going to just drop dead. Your body is very good at conserving energy when it doesn't have access to food. This is how Ghandi at 74 years old was able to go on a 21 day hunger strike and not starve to death. When you fast for an extended duration your body will mostly use stored body fat for energy. And even though Ghandi was already pretty lean before his fast he was able to complete all 21 days. For most of us we consider a normal diet as one in which we eat every couple hours. However, before the invention of things like farming and refrigeration our distant ancestors would experience long periods of fasting followed by periods of feeding when food became available. So most people are actually very capable of fasting for 5 to ten days without much of a problem even though a lot of people think they'll practically die from starvation just by just skipping a meal or two. Just to drive this point home even further there was study conducted by researchers from a University in Scotland that was published in 1973. In this study an extremely obese 27 year old man fasted for 382 days. And believe it or not he didn't drop dead. He actually went from weighing 456 pounds............ to 180 pounds. Such a long fast could obviously only be achieved under the supervision of doctors with the use of vitamin supplements like yeast, sodium, and potassium, but the amazing thing is that the researchers followed this man for 5 years after his fast ended and he managed to maintain his weight.... never crossing back above 200 pounds again. Studies like this completely disprove the myth that your metabolism will shutdown and won't ever function normally again just because you don't eat every couple hours or every couple days for that matter. A 7 day fast is definitely something that you can work up to overtime, so what should you expect to happen to your body over the course of one week of fasting. Well about 6 hours after your start the fast your body will completely finish digesting food and breaking down glycogen into glucose. That glucose is primarily used by your body for energy and even though it can last for up to 24 to 72 hours it will typically be depleted after just 6 hours. So for most people that's when you can expect sudden hunger pangs and food cravings to start kicking in. Also in this initial phase your mood will change because your body is still used to getting it's energy from glucose, so you can expect to be a little "hangry" in the beginning. These intense hunger pangs that can also come with the feeling of dizziness, weakness, and nausea, diminish after the first 2 days for women and can take 3 days for men. If you can overcome these first 3 days the hunger will dramatically decrease and your body will start to feel more energized. During these first 3 days you can expect to gradually burn off the glycogen reserves in your muscles and your liver. This will cause you to lose a good amount of water weight in the beginning because the carbohydrates that you would normally be eating retain water in the body. Also you will begin to switch over to using fat for energy.

Getting The Most Out Of Your Vitamin & Mineral Supplements and Absorbing the Vital Nutrients

You researched and choose good quality supplements. But now are you taking them at the right time and with the right foods or other supplements? Adjusting your supplement timing and learning how to match them up, could help you get a whole lot more out of these health helpers. Multivitamins contain an array of vital nutrients, including vitamins, minerals and amino acids. These vitamins can be fat soluble (like vitamins A, D E and K) or water soluble (like the B-complex vitamins and vitamin C). Fat-soluble vitamins are dissolved in fat, then delivered by your bloodstream. Excess vitamins are stored in your liver for future use. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water and aren’t stored by your body. They have to be replenished every day. Take your multivitamin within 30 minutes of a meal to help aid digestion and boost the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Don’t take your multivitamin too close to bedtime. Vitamins B12 and C, found in most multivitamins, can have stimulating, sleep-disrupting effects. Direct sun is one source of vitamin D; however, it’s easier for those with paler skin to produce vitamin D. A fair-skinned person can produce an adequate amount of vitamin D in 15 minutes of sunshine exposure, whereas a dark-skinned person could take up to two hours and that’s without sunscreen. Studies have shown that vitamin D3 decreases mortality. The body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium. Without enough vitamin D, one can’t form enough of the hormone calcitriol (known as the “active vitamin D”). This in turn leads to insufficient calcium absorption from the diet. Although vitamin D can be taken on an empty stomach, taking it with a meal that contains fats, such as dinner rather than breakfast may increase your absorption. Calcium supplements have long been synonymous with bone health. They’re also important for strong muscles and a healthy heart. A low intake of calcium and vitamin D can lead to osteoporosis in both women and men. Another group that may be deficient in calcium is nine- to 18-year-old girls. Spread out calcium intake, as the body can’t absorb a large amount all at once. Take no more than 500 mg at a time. Don’t take calcium with any other mineral supplements or with a multivitamin. If you’re on any medication, consult your health care practitioner before taking calcium; many medications compete with calcium for absorption. One of the most underrated minerals responsible for numerous cellular functions is magnesium. Magnesium is required for heartbeat and blood sugar regulation and healthy nerve and muscle functioning. Magnesium converts vitamin D into its active form so that it can help with calcium absorption. Since intestinal absorption tends to decrease with age, magnesium is essential for older adults. Begin with organics We want to use organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible. Yes, they are pricey but they are worth the investment for your little baby. Simple mash For some of our healthy baby first foods, all we need to do is peel and mash with a fork. No cooking required! This is true for our bananas, pears and avocados. Be sure to by these fruits ripe so it's easy for baby to digest. For younger babies, add water or breast milk to your mash to thin out consistency. Steaming your food For other healthy baby first foods like squashes and carrots, we'll need to steam these vegetables and then puree with blender. Use filtered water when you steam and save the leftover water, which is loaded with vitamins and minerals, to thin out vegetable puree OR use it in a sippy cup for baby to practice hand/eye coordination. By freezing, we can make bulk quantities, saving time and energy, and yet ensuring that baby gets nutritious, homemade baby food every time. Enjoy and experiment Once you have the basics down, enjoy experimenting with different flavor combinations and you can even add some mild spices for baby. 3 Tests to Check if Your Honey is Pure or Fake

We all know that honey has a lot of health benefits, which is mainly due to the large number of vitamins and minerals that it contains. However, this is only true in pure honey and a lot of what you find at the supermarket is not pure honey. A lot of times, honey is mixed with glucose solutions or other honey with a high amount of water. This process is called being adulterated and it takes away from the health benefits that you receive from home. So, how can you tell if your honey is pure? Today we will discuss just that. 1. Solidification of the Honey Take a look at the bottle and see what the honey inside of it looks like. Overtime, all honey will crystallize into something looking like granulated sugar. If it is crystallized in the store, this is pure honey. If it is liquid, you could wait to see if it solidifies. Putting it in the refrigerator will speed up that process. If your honey never turns into crystals, then it is likely that you do not have pure honey on your hands. 2. Read the Label Before you purchase any products, you should always learn to read labels. Make sure that the ingredient list of the honey does not contain high-fructose corn syrup or glucose. These are two substances that are usually added to honey that keep it from solidifying. Companies also add this to the honey so that they get more honey out of their batch. 3. Test It There are other ways to test to see if your honey is pure: Mix some honey with water, then add four or five drops of vinegar. If the liquid turns foamy, that is not pure honey. It may have a substance called gypsum added to it. Mix a tablespoon of honey with water. If the honey dissolves easily, it is not pure, as pure honey should remain intact when dipped into water. Use a match to try and burn the honey, as pure honey will light up and burn due to the sugar content. Other low-quality honey usually contains water that will prevent it from lighting and burning. Put some honey onto a spoon and hold it up. If the honey falls quickly, then this is not pure honey. Good quality, pure honey, will stay on the spoon or fall ever so slowly. Use a small piece of old, stale bread and put it in honey. Leave it in for ten minutes and then pull it out of the honey. If the bread is still hard, then you have pure honey. If the honey has added water, the bread will be soggy. You can also use iodine to identify impure honey. Just mix honey, water and a few drops of iodine. If the mixture turns blue, then the honey has some sort of added flour or starch in it. Testing your honey will ensure that you have pure, unadulterated honey that will provide you with the health benefits of honey that you know of and care about. Do you buy honey often? These mature ones have more meat and in part 3 I show how to make coconut milk with both but the meat is harder and tougher to eat by itself from the mature coconuts. Why not just get a bottle of coconut water? Most all of them are pasteurized and this kills the enzymes and a lot of the vitamins and minerals. There is also no way of knowing if they are using young coconuts or mature ones since it’s just the coconut water you see. So it might start out with fewer nutrients. And they often have sugar and other added ingredients that are toxic or worthless for you and can upset your digestion such as carrageenan. If coconut water does not need to be refrigerated, it usually means it has been pasteurized Benefits of coconut water They have been shown to help with: • Weight loss, reducing cellulite, and to stop premature aging • Lowered blood pressure & cholesterol • Boosted energy & athletic performance • Relax muscle tension • It's great to put on your skin either topically and good for your skin when you drink it. • Helps with acid reflux • Helps with a hangover by replacing electrolytes and good for headaches • Anti-inflammatory and reduces plaque formation in arteries to lower heart attack and strokes. And since it’s very low allergic I highly recommend it. You can use the milk as a dairy replacement in coffee curries and cereal and I use it to make kefir as well. I would not bother getting it if it’s sweetened, concentrated or flavored with other juices or anything else since you lose the nutritional value. I don’t like any of the popular brands, so odds are the supermarket ones are not offering you the benefits we discussed. The Cheese-making Process We make our Gouda with a native Dutch recipe and cheese culture shipped fresh from Wisconsin. The milk is pasteurized, and the culture is added to produce curds, which are cut by hand, packed in forms (called hoops), and pressed. The finished cheeses are immersed in salt brine, then cured in a refrigeration room where we turn and inspect them daily. During the first four days of production, a special rind is handpainted on each cheese. This allows the cheese to breathe while it ages. During the natural process of aging, the cheese takes on a richer flavor and color, ranging from soft yellow to a deep gold. Prior to shipment, we dip each cheese in a protective red wax coating. All this work is done by the Sisters: cheesemaking, packaging and shipping, as well as mail-order marketing. Alexandrine parrots, also known as Alexandrine parakeets, are named for Alexander the Great, who enjoyed having them in his palace. Their diet is the same as for all small parrots. However, since they are larger than typical parakeets, their fresh food can be slightly larger. With a diet high in fresh foods and low in seeds and nuts, Alexandrine parrots can live to be 20 or 30 years old. Varied Vegetables and Fruit To replicate the diet Alexandrine parrots consume in the wild, feed a variety of vegetables and fruits in their diet. To find out what they prefer, offer most of the varieties you eat. Feed raw cucumber, radishes, kale, corn, mustard greens, okra and zucchini. Cook asparagus, lentils, potatoes, yams, beans, pumpkin, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. Try fruits such as apples, bananas, berries, citrus, plums, pomegranate, and dried fruits like raisins, currants and figs. Cut fruits and vegetables into bite-size pieces; remove seeds, pits and the flesh directly around pits, as these can be toxic. Pelleted Parrot Mix Pellets are prepared from fresh fruits and vegetables and contain vital vitamins and minerals. Some brands are also colorful, to appeal to birds' natural curiosity. An Alexandrine parakeet who eats a varied, healthy diet doesn't need supplemental pellet food. However, providing pellets ensures a healthful diet in the event the bird doesn't like the fresh food offered. A bird who consumes mostly seeds should be fed more pellets. Add a few pellets to his seeds so he understands pellets are food. Once he starts eating them, gradually increase the amount of pellets while decreasing the amount of seeds until he is eating all pellets. Wholesome Grains Healthy, cooked grains can compose as much as 50 percent of an Alexandrine parrot's diet. Variety is important here, too. Choose brown and wild rice, oatmeal, buckwheat, kasha, quinoa, barley, wheat pasta and tortillas. Be sure any crackers, bagels, popcorn and pretzels you offer are salt-free. Dry cereals should be low in sugar -- consider rice, bran, wheat, and corn flakes and squares. Limited Meat and Dairy Alexandrine parrots should get a small amount of meat for protein. Chicken, beef, lamb, liver, turkey and fish are good choices. Give them meats you eat, as long as it is thoroughly cooked. Salmon and tuna are best canned and water-packed. Although parrots are lactose-intolerant, a small amount of dairy adds calcium to their nutrition. Cook cheese with pasta or other food. A small amount of yogurt is good, but Alexandrine parrots should never have milk. Seed and Nut Treats Alexandrines will eat an all-seed and -nut diet if given the opportunity. However, seeds and nuts are high in fat and oil, and should therefore be given sparingly. Try giving sunflower and pumpkin seeds, and shelled nuts such as almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts and peanuts as rewards during training. Some owners eschew peanuts, as they can harbor bacteria. Sprouted seeds are an exception; they should be given regularly, either purchased or grown yourself by moistening seeds. Warnings and What to Avoid Some foods can be toxic to parrots and should not be given, including avocado, raw beans, lettuce, cabbage, fruit pits, apple and pear seeds, and chocolate. Don't give sweets of any kind, nor alcohol or foods containing caffeine. Spinach is healthy in limited amounts. Onions, garlic, leeks and chives can potentially cause hemolytic anemia. Fresh foods can spoil quickly, so remove them after two hours. Refrigerate sprouts -- even refrigerated, sprouts can sour in only two days, so check for a sour odor before giving them.
