Free Cancer Screening for Medford Firefighters
By Aaron Nilsson/KTVL.com MEDFORD, Ore. -- Skin cancer can not only be dangerous, but deadly. Advanced Skin Center offered two skin cancer screenings for all Medford firefighters this summer. Firefighters said this is in addition to yearly physicals for crew and is an important opportunity. "That's the nature of our job. We're out in the weather and especially in the summer time, we don't always have the luxury of getting in the shade, so we're exposed to the sun a lot of times through training and calls and that sort of thing," Deputy Chief, Justin Bates, said. This is a program the fire department hopes to continue every year to keep every firefighter safer and healthier. This event is not open to the public. It's only for Medford firefighters.

TSA to Screen and Scrutinize your Books
http://time.com/4832616/airport-security-books-tsa/ https://www.aclu.org/blog/free-future/new-tsa-policy-may-lead-increased-scrutiny-reading-material Privacy advocates are sounding the alarm after security officials at some airports have been inspecting passengers' books and other paper materials. "Books raise very special privacy issues," wrote American Civil Liberties Union Senior Policy Analyst Jay Stanley in a recent blog post. "There is a long history of special legal protection for the privacy of one’s reading habits in the United States, not only through numerous Supreme Court and other court decisions, but also through state laws that criminalize the violation of public library reading privacy or require a warrant to obtain book sales, rental, or lending records." The Transportation Security Administration has recently been testing new screening procedures that include the removal of books and food from carry-on luggage for thorough inspection, according to reports. The paper screenings are being tested at airports in select cities, including Los Angeles, Detroit, Boston and more, according to The Sacramento Bee. The screenings reportedly began in May, but have expanded to more airports since first being introduced. 6 Prostate Cancer Risk Factors Men Should Know
6 Prostate Cancer Risk Factors Men Should Know. According to the American National Cancer Institute, after skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men, and 1-in-7 will be diagnosed with it during their lifetime. This is quite the troubling statistic, especially since many men still don’t even know where in their body the prostate is. As prostate cancer can be hard to discover from a lack of symptoms, it is important to recognize the risk factors. If you believe you are at risk for prostate cancer, talk to your doctor about being tested. Here are 10 risk factors of prostate cancer. 1, Age. Age is a huge factor in your risk for prostate cancer. The statistics are shocking. 30% of men 50 and over already have prostate cancer. 80% of men 70 and over have prostate cancer. On average, the age of diagnosis of prostate cancer is 70 years old. Generally, the older the man, the greater the risk of developing prostate cancer. Agressive forms of prostate cancer can affect men at any age, but this is rare. If you are over 40 years old, it would be a smart idea to be proactive and get checked. 2, Genetics. Family history can play a big part of your risk of prostate cancer. If your family has a history of prostate cancer, you may have a greater risk of developing it yourself. Having a close relative with prostate cancer can give you a 2-3 times larger chance of getting this disease. As of now, there is no specific gene responsible for the elevated risk of prostate cancer. As far as scientists can tell, the answers lie in multiple genes. 3, Exercise. A new study has found a relationship between exercise and a lowered risk of prostate cancer in Caucasian men. The researchers found that men who were moderately to highly active had over a 50% reduction in their prostate cancer risk. Men who exercised in any amount had a 13% reduction in the risk of the agressive form of the disease. 4, Weight. Being overweight increases your risk of developing various forms of cancer, including prostate cancer. Overweight and obese men are also at risk for developing a more aggressive form of prostate cancer, according to a study from the San Diego Naval Medical Center. Vitahl on Martino TV - Pearl
Paula talks about her Pearl laser treatment performed at Vitahl. What is Pearl™? The Pearl procedure combines the impact of resurfacing lasers with the gentleness and safety of non-invasive procedures to treat aging and sun-damaged skin. Pearl reduces wrinkles, uneven texture and solar damage with fewer treatments and less overall recovery than other technologies to provide a healthy, pearl-like glow. How does Pearl™ work? During the procedure, the top layer of skin is treated with pulses of light in a pre-selected pattern. The laser simultaneously sends heat to the deeper layers of skin to provide long-term benefits. A natural protective dressing forms on the skin, to minimize downtime during the restorative process. On day 3 or 4, this natural dressing will peel or slough off, leaving new, healthy, vibrant skin. In a short time, patients will notice overall skin clarity, smoothness and softness - all from a 15-20 minute treatment with only 3 - 6 days of "social" downtime. What is "social" downtime? Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure. With "social" downtime, you can continue most normal activities. However, avoid scheduling this treatment for at least 7-10 days prior to any important social events. What can I expect after a Pearl™ treatment? After treatment, your skin will look and feel sunburned. Your physician will recommend post-treatment care, including NeoCutis Bio-Gel to aid healing and Aquaphor to keep the skin moisturized. You will need to limit sun exposure for a few days after the treatment. How many treatments are recommended? We recommend 2-3 treatments spaced approximately one month apart to achieve the desired results. Other patients may need only one treatment. You may also want to consider follow up treatments as desired. When will I see results? How soon can I wear make-up after a Pearl™treatment? Results are noticeable by day 3 or 4 when the superficial tissue has peeled off, leaving fresh, new, healthy skin underneath. You may return to using make-up and active medical grade skin care products at this time. Can Pearl™ be part of a combination therapy treatment? Yes, patients may choose to have a Pearl treatment followed by 3D Skin Rejuvenation, Titan, or injectables, or others. We will customize an appropriate treatment plan for you. How does Pearl™ compare to other laser treatments? Pearl offers the most effective treatment to address fine lines, uneven texture and discoloration without wound care and the lengthy downtime required with certain Erbium and CO2 laser procedures. Compared to today's fractionated technologies, Pearl offers noticeable results in just one treatment versus 4 -- 6 fractionated treatments. Call VITAHL Today! 303.388.7380
