What does it mean when your tongue swells up?

00:42
Tongue swelling can be a sign of a few things, one of which is an allergic reaction. Overall though, if your tongue continues to swell it can block your airway. So if tongue swelling doesn't improve, the swelling gets worse it would be best to seek medical attention immediately. Overall though if the tongue swelling is just mild and you've just noticed it come on recently it would be best to talk to your doctor. They can ask you more specific questions, perform an exam, and decide what it is and what treatments would be most appropriate. If you have any other questions for me feel free to ask them on our Facebook page and recommend us to your friends and family too.

What would cause the tongue to feel swollen? - Dr. Sriram Nathan

01:35
Cold in summer it is actually very common, but cold basically means that you have nose discharge, sneezing, nose is blocked. Basically it happens in summer situation because of dust and many countries even have a particular spring season but if you have just a normal summer. So what you can do is make sure that you don't take lots of cold items, have balanced diet, even citrus things like lemon, Orange, pineapple which are basically good but over indulgence of any citrus fruit should be avoided. The vitamin C may help prevent cold and over in indulgence of Vitamin C can cause irritation, it is better to avoid anything in cold and sour. In case if you avoid dust, places which are crowded, AC environment which are not filtered properly, if you have your own house you have ac cars and regularly exposed to ac, make sure that the AC filter is clean regularly and maintainance happens very frequently. When you are sitting down make sure that you are not on the direct glass of the AC, also just don't lie down below the fan, if windows are open make sure that it is not very dusty, the place where you live is nit dusty and make sure that your area is generally clean of dust and smoke. If you are very sensitive you can use a mask, don't indulge much in cold things as it is summer and its better to be very careful.

Benadryl for Allergic Reactions - Should You Take It?

02:34
Is benadryl the best option for treating allergic reactions? Dr. Dean Mitchell, Board Certified Allergist in NYC, discusses why Benadryl is not the best antihistamine for allergic reactions. For so many years people have thought that they should take Benadryl for allergic reactions. It's common to get Benadryl in the ER when you are having an allergic reaction and when people go to the drugstore they think Benadryl is the best antihistamine. Just because Benadryl is the oldest antihistamine doesn't make it the best one to use when you have an allergic reaction. I rarely recommend using Benadryl for allergic reactions. Today, there are better choices when you have an allergic reaction such as: Claritin This is a non-sedating antihistamine which means it doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier so it doesn't make you tired. It also works quickly. In fact, today they have a Claritin ready-tab which you just put on your tongue and it works instantly. You can carry around these tabs in your wallet if you are prone to getting allergic reactions you can't predict. Allegra Allegra may be even stronger than Claritin. It lasts longer and also doesn't affect your blood-brain barrier so you don't get tired. This is one of my favorite antihistamines for patients who get chronic allergies. Zyrtec This is based on an older antihistamine called hydroxyzine which is very powerful. Zyrtec is probably the most powerful of all the antihistamines listed but it can be sedating. People can get tired from it and as a result it's not always tolerated well. It is not always my first choice for allergic reactions. It can also last in your body for several weeks. Best Option - Sublingual Allergy Drops If you are really suffering from chronic allergies frequently and you want to get to the underlying problem and treat it more permanently something like sublingual allergy immunotherapy drops can really make a difference. I suggest that you see your doctor and you ask them if you have been allergy tested if they can arrange for you to get allergy drops so you can have lasting allergy protection. ___________________________________________ Expert: Dr. Dean Mitchell, M.D. Website: http://www.mitchellmedicalgroup.com Location: NYC & Long Island Bio: For over 25 years, Dr. Mitchell has specialized in allergies, candida and immunology in NYC. swollen throat: clinical case answer and discussion

02:50
https://youtu.be/OfhAaqucsuk to watch ORIGINAL patient education video on UVULITIS A patient complains of a foreign body sensation or fullness in the throat, possibly associated with a muffled voice and gagging. Upon examination of the throat, the uvula is swollen, pale, and somewhat translucent (uvular hydrops). If greatly enlarged, the uvula might rest on the tongue and move in and out with respiration. There might be an associated rash or a history of exposure to phsical stimuli, allergens, or a recurrent seasonal indicence. What to do: Because of the known association of uvular with hypopharyngeal edema, watch for signs of airway compromise. If a patient complains of resiratory difficulty or breathes with stridor, commence treatment with intravenous lines and intubation and cricothyrotomy equipment at the bedside, and a crosstable lateral soft tissue neck x ray to rule out epiglottic swelling. If there is no acute respiraory difficulty, ask about precipitating events. Consider foods, drugs, physical agents, inhalants, insect bites and hereditary angioedema. When fever, sore throat and pharyngeal injection are present, culture the throat with a rapid strep screen and give an antibiotic that covers Haemophilus influenzae (e.g., Biaxin, Augmentin, Bactrim). It is reasonable to obtain a complete blood count with a manual differential to demonstrate eosinophilia to support the possibility of an allergic reaction or a high leukocyte count with increased granulocytes and bands to support a bacterial infection. Initially the patient should receive parenteral H1 and H2 antihistamines like hydroxazine 50-100mg im or diphenhydramine 25-50mg iv along with cimetidine 300mg iv or po or ranitidine 50mg iv or 150mg po. More severe cases should receive repeated doses of epinephrine 0.3ml of 1:1000 sq every 20 minutes x3. Nebulized isomeric or racemic epinephrine or albuterol are also effective. Parenteral corticosteroids like SoluMedrol 125mg iv are also typically used, although efficacy remains umproven. If there is a history of recurrent episodes of edema and there is a family history of the same, consider ordering a C4 complement level or C'1 esterase inhibitor levels as a screening test for hereditary angioedema. In this condition, the edema often involves the uvula and soft palate together. Uvular decompression may be useful in patients that are resistant to medical therapy or whose symptoms progress rapidly. This procedure consists of grasping the uvula with forceps and either making several lacerations with a sterile needle or snippint the distal centimeter as a patial uvulectomy. All patient s should be observed for an adequate period of time to insure that there is either improvement or no further worsening of the swelling before being discharged home. Upon discharge, they should receive 4-5 days of H1 and H2 blockers and steroids if required.

I was looking for advice on the topics of adenoids, allergies, and vitiligo. I had my adenoids removed when I was young. I read about the lymph nods being similar to the adenoids for your immune system. I have terrible allergies to my dog and I live with my parents. Neither me or my family would ever have the heart to give up our dog, as she is like our child. However, I am trying so hard to fix these problems. My allergies to my dog are so servere that it prevents me from sleeping well, I am sick all day at times, my energy is drained, and I avoid going home spending most of my time at my boyfriend's house. I also have vitiligo on my face which I learned is caused from what I used to eat. I would assume not having adenoids also negatively impacts this? I have been vegetarian for a couple months now and did a fruit fast for a few days in the past. I need to improve on having a mucousless diet and plan on going on another fruit fast soon. I was just hoping you can give me further advice/tell me the best path to take. I've also switched my diet a year ago to all organic and gluten free. I'm just praying that there is still hope to improve my symptoms/cure myself even after my adenoids have been removed.

Food allergy - Symptoms

02:45
Food allergy - Symptoms Overview Food allergy is an immune system reaction that occurs soon after eating a certain food. Even a tiny amount of the allergy-causing food can trigger signs and symptoms such as digestive problems, hives or swollen airways. In some people, a food allergy can cause severe symptoms or even a life-threatening reaction known as anaphylaxis. Food allergy affects an estimated 6 to 8 percent of children under age 3 and up to 3 percent of adults. While there's no cure, some children outgrow their food allergy as they get older. It's easy to confuse a food allergy with a much more common reaction known as food intolerance. While bothersome, food intolerance is a less serious condition that does not involve the immune system. Symptoms For some people, an allergic reaction to a particular food may be uncomfortable but not severe. For other people, an allergic food reaction can be frightening and even life-threatening. Food allergy symptoms usually develop within a few minutes to two hours after eating the offending food. The most common food allergy signs and symptoms include: Tingling or itching in the mouth Hives, itching or eczema Swelling of the lips, face, tongue and throat or other parts of the body Wheezing, nasal congestion or trouble breathing Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting Anaphylaxis In some people, a food allergy can trigger a severe allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. This can cause life-threatening signs and symptoms, including: Constriction and tightening of the airways A swollen throat or the sensation of a lump in your throat that makes it difficult to breathe Shock with a severe drop in blood pressure Rapid pulse Dizziness, lightheadedness or loss of consciousness Emergency treatment is critical for anaphylaxis. Untreated, anaphylaxis can cause a coma or even death. When to see a doctor See a doctor or allergist if you have food allergy symptoms shortly after eating. If possible, see your doctor when the allergic reaction is occurring. This will help your doctor make a diagnosis. Seek emergency treatment if you develop any signs or symptoms of anaphylaxis, such as: Constriction of airways that makes it difficult to breathe Shock with a severe drop in blood pressure Rapid pulse Dizziness or lightheadedness

There is no doubt that it is the taste buds on the tongue that make us enjoy all the food that we eat, patients who are having swollen taste buds want to get rid of them as soon as possible because they are not able to enjoy the taste sensation. The best way to treat such a condition is to remove the cause, if the condition is caused because of hot or spicy or salty or acidic food intake first of all we should stop eating such food keep the tongue hydrated and use glycerin or ice for whatever condition maybe sometimes inadequate hygiene leads to oral Thrush, now oral thrush is a fungal infection which should be treated intern it should cause the swollen taste buds. Other causes are the consumption of alcohol, use of tobacco, depression, acidic Reflux which comes which is generally in the common term called acidity, allergic condition and a few more now the cause needs to be addressed accordingly using a mouthwash prevents formation of swollen taste buds. So visit a dentist of your choice and get treated.
Angioedema. Swollen face, swollen lips. Never had this before.

00:33
Put this video up hoping it will help others to become aware what the symptoms of angioedema are and that it could happen to anyone. As we age our bodies break down and medications which someone may have taken for years without a problem, could be a problem later on down the road. I was really frightened and had no idea what was causing this to happen. I wore a mask on my way to the hospital so as not to have others stare at my swelling. So this is happening right now, March 1, 2012. Great way to start the month. Woke up at 4 am with my left bottom corner lip a little swollen, took a Claritin. Then woke up again with intense swelling and took a bendryl. Then finally called the doctor and met with him at noon because the swelling just grew more, I didn't even think it was possible. The doctor says my swelling is called angioedema and my body is reacting to an ACE inhibitor medication. The ACE inhibitor is found in drugs used to control high blood pressure, which I take Lysinopril. I was then injected with Kenalog 40mg, which is a type of steroid to counteract with the histamine in my body. I was also injected with Dephendramine 25mg, which is a type of Benadryl. He injected a small dosage of Dephendramine since I drove myself to the hospital. Next steps are I am to take Benadryl every 4-6 hours. If the swelling doesn't go down by tomorrow, doctor says I have to go to ER and have large amounts of a different type of steroid put into me along with other meds. As of right now the swelling is considered severe. So far swelling has not gone down. I told the doctor it is really odd I am having this reaction since I have had this medication for 6 years, I don't take it everyday, yet I never have reacted like this before. He said as we age our bodies break down and right now my body cannot handle the medication. Going back to sleep and praying it will go down. I'm thinking the swelling should decrease once the lysinopril leaves my body. UPDATE as of March 4, 2012. I have healed and it took 4 days to heal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Follow me on: http://www.etsy.com/people/LuckyYogi Twitter @ http://twitter.com/#!/TheLuckyYogi Facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/TheLuckyYogi YouTube @ http://www.youtube.com/user/LuckyYogi

For more on gluten sensitivity: http://draxe.com/gluten-sensitivity-diet/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Sept-2014&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=gluten In this video, I’m going to talk about what gluten sensitivity is, symptoms, and side effects. A few of the warning signs that indicate you are gluten sensitive are digestive issues, food allergies, autoimmune disease, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, weight gain, joint pain, arthritis, brain inflammation, ADHD, autism, hypothyroidism, or hormone imbalance. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye that has been hybridized today, resulting in a new breed of gluten. This protein gets into your gut and causes intestinal inflammation, resulting in autoimmune disease and other problems. If you're gluten sensitive and are going gluten free, you can follow the GAPS diet, which supports your digestive system. In addition, taking supplements like L- Glutamine, digestive enzymes, and probiotics will help your body heal from gluten sensitivity. Following these tips you will notice an overall improvement in your gluten sensitivity symptoms! What Your Tongue Has to Say About Your Health

What Your Tongue Has to Say About Your Health! https://youtu.be/DmAYriizQIE What Your Tongue Has to Say About Your Health! Most of us don’t really think about our tongues on a daily basis. They’re one of those body parts that are important but tend to be forgotten… until we eat something too hot.Like other parts of the body, the tongue can show signs of illness or trauma to let us know that something isn’t quite right. Being able to recognize these seven signs associated with your tongue can help you pinpoint what’s wrong. 1. If Your Tongue is Cracked… A “crack” down the middle of your tongue can develop with age. If you notice fissures in your tongue, it’s most likely harmless. Only about 2-5% of the U.S. population has a fissured tongue. It may be genetically inherited. If you notice a fissure that is accompanied by unexplained facial or lip swelling, make an appointment with your doctor. It could be the sign of a rare disease called Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome. 2 If Your Tongue Has a Thick, Cheese-Like Coating… A thick, white coating on your tongue is a sign of a yeast infection called oral thrush. It appears most commonly in infants and young children, but it can also occur in those who wear dentures, have a weakened immune system or are taking antibiotics. If you experience this, go see your doctor to determine how to treat it. 3. If You Have Sores on Your Tongue… Biting your tongue can cause a sore to develop, or sores that appear on your tongue may be canker sores. The exact cause of most canker sores are unknown, but stress and acidic foods can trigger them and make them worse. If your sores don’t go away within two weeks, make an appointment with your doctor. Sores can also be a sign of oral cancer. 4. If Your Tongue Has Wavy Edges… If the edges of your tongue are scalloped or wavy, it could mean that your tongue is swollen. The swelling causes it to press up against your teeth, creating indentations. It usually occurs as a result of something else going on in your body, such as allergies, a thyroid problem, fever or dehydration.Take a trip to see your doctor to find out what’s causing it. 5. If Your Tongue is Pink and Slightly Bumpy… Great news: if your tongue is pink and bumpy you have nothing to worry about. The small bumps on the tongue are called papillae. They grip your food to make it easier to eat, and they contain your taste buds, which control your like and dislike of certain foods. They respond to both sweet and sour tastes. 6. If Your Tongue Has White Patches… White patches that appear on the side or bottom of the tongue may be a sign of leukoplakia,a reaction to a long-standing irritation of the tongue. Constant irritation causes the cells in the affected area to multiply more than usual, resulting in a white patch being formed. It’s not always a health concern on its own, but it could be a starting point for cancer to develop later on.Check with your doctor to make sure it’s not something more serious. 7. If Your Tongue is Red and You Have a Fever… If your tongue or your child’s tongue turns a deep shade of red and is accompanied by a high fever, contact a doctor immediately. It may be a sign of scarlet fever — strep throat with a rash — or Kawasaki disease, which affects the blood vessels.Kawasaki disease is a non-contagious autoimmune disease that is seen in children under eight years old. If your child is experiencing these symptoms, take your child to a doctor to make sure it gets treated properly. ------------------------------------------------- ▶ Subscribe to the channel : https://goo.gl/jQnM3n ▶ See More Home planet : https://goo.gl/jQnM3n ▶ Checkout Our Website : https://goo.gl/hW4CDM ▶ Follow Us On Twitter : https://goo.gl/pimK6E ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: The records supplied on this channel and its videos is for general functions only and need to now not be considered as expert recommendation.
