Derek "Deek" Diedricksen, author of "Microshelters", works on a tree house in Massachusetts for a client. The walls of this simple pre-fabricated tree house were designed by Deek and built at a hands-on workshop he, and his brother Dustin, held earlier in the year. Deek will be hosting another small, live, tree house building workshop in July of 2016 in CT most likely. Derek "Deek" Diedricksen (HGTV, DIY Network, Relaxshacks.com), alongside his brother Dustin Diedricksen, and Roy St. Clair (Ondura, and Tuftex) show us a tiny, modern A-frame cabin. This cabin was a live build at the 38th Annual St. Louis Home And Garden show (the third largest in the US!) and features an entire clear Tuftex Polycarbonate front, recycled-material Ondura roofing, and stands at almost twelve feet tall. This cabin was leisurely built in three days while addressing questions from the crowd and speaking at the event's main stage, and was ultimately auctioned off for charity. This cabin, very simple to make, could stand as a nice weekend camping structure, an affordable prepper bug-out shelter, a tree house (easily!), a backyard (tiny house -like) office, or a playhouse or hobby space.

http://www.woodendesignplans.com There are several things to consider when building your outdoor treehouse . Location, support, design and security are crucial factors that you have to consider. Also, you'll need to know what you want your tree house to be. Is it to be a house or a fort for your children's to have fun for hours, a place for you to rest and spent some excellent time, or just a place to watch the nature? Building a treehouse is a lot like almost other wooden building project, with one key difference, instead of a foundation, a treehouse rests on a platform. http://www.bosch-pt.com/gb/en/power-tools/power-tools.html This Summer, Bosch Power Tools is encouraging families to get outdoors, get creative and build an imaginative tree house together! The summer holidays are always a time where parents need to keep their children occupied and building a tree house will do just that. It's exciting, fun, outdoor play whereby the kids will learn a few DIY skills (without even realising it!) and the family can create something special, together. So much more fun than video games! To make it even easier, Bosch has developed a simple step-by-step guide to building a tree house in your back garden -- it's really not as hard as you'd think and you could even get the neighbours and their children to help too. This is a tree house that my friend Aza and I built for a customer shortly after I built my original tree house. The build took about six months start to finish, but we weren't working on it full time. It is located in Sandpoint Idaho. Main song is by my friend Steven. Song at the end is: Stop It (Instrumental) by Dexter Britain

When Phil moved to Oregon decades ago to be near his children, he began dreaming about building a treehouse or two. Once his children had grown, he indulged the fantasy, and with the help of friend and neighbor Michael Garnier (see our video of his Ewok village style treesort), he began to build up. Today, he and his wife Jody have three self-designed structures: the Japanese-inspired Shiitake, Tudor-style Calypso and the Cottage (a cabin in a tree). They rent them out by the night (they're fully plumbed) and the couple dreams of building yet another (Jody wants it to feature a skylight and to call it the "Sky Palace"). This is the basics of how I built our treehouse. See our other treehouse video for the actual tour where you can see it better from inside and out. I used the book by Black and Decker "Build Your Kids a Treehouse" for learning the basics of the beginning up to the point before I started framing the walls, then just did the rest on my own. BTW, building a treehouse is not easy. It is slow and scary working while holding material, hammer, drill, nails, screws, often being up on ladders, going up and down needing to trim another 1/4 off of wood so I really went slow and took nearly 6 weeks to complete this working almost completely alone.

A tribeam lets you attach a wide platform to a single tree trunk by widening the support base on the tree instead of attaching one beam to either side. Essentially, it's an inverted truss with the flat beam on top and two 45 degree braces all locked together with notches and hardware. The required hardware and support can be found at http://www.treehousesupplies.com/Double_Knee_Brace_Bracket_p/br-dknee45.htm

This is the first video in a series with my Dad where we are building an off-grid one man wood cabin from reclaimed Pallet Wood that we scavenged for free. In the first episode, we show you the site that we have chosen in the woods and the type of land that we are building the cabin on. The first stage of the primitive cabin build was to collect the pallets and break them down to gain useable pieces of timber. We have no saw mill, so we need to do this stage ourselves. We then began to put together the foundations for the cabin and create a wood base for the cabin to stand on. This cabin is located at one of our Bushcraft Camp sites. So after a hard days work we got the fire going and cooked up some food on the cast iron grill. I hope you guys enjoy this cabin build series. It gives me a great chance to spend time with my Dad on this wilderness project together. Hope you enjoy coming along on the adventure! I built an A frame hut as a large work space for projects. First I made a celt hatchet to cut timber for the hut. The axe head was made of amphibolite and the handle was made of a species of wattle. For the hut the floor plan was 4 X 4m. The height of the ridgeline was 2 m above the ground. +A post was planted in the ground to support the ridge pole at the back of the structure and an A frame was put in the front to support the ridgeline. The rafters of the hut were then attached to the ridgepole. Palm fronds were then collected, split and lashed to this frame. The dome hut was disassembled and its thatch was added to the structure. Approximately 1200 fronds were used in total. For the ridgeline, thatch was lifted in place and rested on without lashing it down. Instead, pairs of sticks lashed together were lifted in place sitting over thatch preventing it from blowing away. These are known as “jockeys” as they resemble a rider sitting on a horse. A wall of wattle and daub was built at the back of the structure. Wooden poles were planted into the ground and lawyer cane was woven between them. Soil was dug from around the hut forming drainage trenches while also supplying the mud used to daub the wall. No fibre was added to the daub, just straight mud. Pegs were stuck into the wall to form a convenient rack to hold the stone axe off the ground when not in use. Later, pegs were added to support the fire sticks too. A bed was made by hammering in wooden stakes and lashing timber to the frame. This was covered with palm fibre to act as bedding. Atherton oak nuts were then collected and eaten/stored in a pot. Latter, heavy rain fell testing the huts ability to shed rain. The hut stayed dry while the water flowed off the thatch and into the drainage trenches left over from digging the mud for the wall. The A frame hut is a simple shelter that can be built quickly and simply. It’s basically a large roof built directly on the ground. The shape is strong and should resist strong winds. This hut is the biggest one I’ve built on this channel and could fit both the tiled roof hut and wattle and daub hut inside it with room left over along the sides. It requires no scaffolding or ladders to build. A person can walk right down the centre without ducking while the sides that are too low to stand in are used for storing firewood, tools and other things. A fire lit in the entrance will greatly reduce the number of mosquitoes in the hut though it will get smokey occasionally. To reduce smoke, a small stove could be built to burn the wood more efficiently. A chimney and fireplace could be built also, but would take more time. Watch in 1080p. Today I'm doing something COMPLETELY different, so this video may not be for you. This video is NOT about RC, but if you want to see one of my other great passions, feel free to watch. I'm building a playhouse for our 5 year old twin girls. I'm their "bonus-dad" and living in Norway, on a large plot gave me the opportunity to construct them their own little cabin. We live out in the woods, and despite there being a lot of trees, there was no suitable tree large enough to make a treehouse. So I mixed it up a bit: The house is built on top of a rock, and mounted on 4 large stilts. I try to explain as much as possible about the process of taking on a project like this, and try to give you a few tips on where you could save a bit of money. The materials used add up to around 1200 dollars, but all depends on size of the playhouse and what you can get your hands on to recuperate. I think it's important to stimulate creativity and being outdoors as well as kids having their own little cosy place, and apart from building your kids something nice you can end up with a nice accessory for your garden. In case you have questions, or want to know more, just shoot me a comment in the box below and I will try my very best to help you out. In this video, we take a tour of 2 tree house-style cabins on stilts at the Canopée Lit eco-resort in Sacré Coeur, Québec. The first one we see is a summer cabin. It's just one simple room with a double bed and they gave it a rustic interior design look by using unfinished wood panelling and branches so that it literally feels like the cabin was carved out of the forest. One thing we really like about this cabin is the big bubble skylight above the bed. It makes the room nice and bright during the day, and it would be cool for looking at the stars at night. There's also a horizontal curtain that you can pull across the skylight to keep the room dark in the morning or to keep the sun from heating up the room too much. There's a huge balcony outside with a great view and a functional little kitchen. There's also a breakfast box on a pulley that the resort uses to deliver your breakfast in the morning. There is a composting toilet and shower at the bottom of the stairs. The second cabin is an all-season cabin. They've got a bedroom in the loft up a curving staircase. The kitchen and sitting area are indoors in this one and they look a bit more comfortable although you do lose the camping feel of the summer cabin. The composting toilet, shower and sink are inside too which is nice and it looks like the shower stall is made out of an old wine barrel. The cabins all have 1 solar panel and a propane heater but we don't think they're completely off the grid. There are half a dozen of these cabins spaced out along some trails but they're still within walking distance of the resort's main cabin where you can get access to wifi, eat at the restaurant, play board games & stuff like that. You can see that the cabins aren't true treehouses since they're built on stilts but they still give you a great view, and it's a good alternative if you want to build a tall structure like this but don't have a mature tree to build it in. Check out the Canopée Lit website if you're interested in learning more: www.canopee-lit.com We also made a video about the bubble tents at Canopée Lit here: https://youtu.be/45UoPLPhy7M Thanks for watching! We built this small off grid log cabin using recycled pallet wood that we collected for free. The aim of the diy project was to try and save money by building a cabin in the forest on the cheap. Living off grid is something we have always admired, being able to forage and gather food from the land, much like the primitive hunter-gatherer did. This off the grid cabin, although small, is an ideal one-man bug out camp in a survival situation. Slowly, we are turning this off grid cabin in the forest into a wilderness homestead. So far, this tiny hobbit home has no electricity or solar power, but it does have a window, roof, front porch, folding table, raised bed, chair, bench, shelves, bookcase and a woodstove to keep the cabin warm during the cold winter months. To build the pallet wood cabin we have used a mixture of hand tools and power tools. We filmed and documented the building of this log cabin in a playlist on our channel called "The Off Grid Pallet Wood Cabin" which you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxnadpeGdTxDMYqxhMnVMPHzgIuUOKB54 We started the cabin build by breaking the pallets down into useable pieces of timber. We then cleared a site in the forest to build the foundations of the cabin using larger pallets. The second stage of the build was the side walls, and then the roof, which we used a piece of recycled tin from an old barn. We then fitted a small window from a garden shed, and started to work on building the front porch. Once the main structure of the cabin was complete, we focused on making rustic pallet wood furniture for the inside of the small house. We bolted together a raised bed, and made a small chair and foldaway table to save space inside. We then needed to heat the cabin, for this we opted for the G Stove Heat View which has a stove pipe oven attachment so that we can bake food in it, plus a water container to boil water for fresh coffee and tea. In many of the episodes we cooked food in cast iron frying pans on the woodstove. In the warmer months we cooked on an open camp fire using a cast iron grill on a Bushcraft style tripod which we lashed together. We have cooked fresh fish, pie, bacon, eggs, soup and much more on the woodstove. Hopefully, we can use this former Bushcraft Camp as an area to practice developing our wilderness survival skills, learning primitive technology and how to forage for wild edibles and catch and cook our food. At the end of the day, this project was more about a father and son spending time in the outdoors working on free diy projects and learning how to become self reliant and save money for a happier lifestyle. We hope you enjoy the adventure! The Woodstove we use is the Gstove Heat View.
