Wellbutrin, more commonly prescribed as the generic Bupropion, remains a widely prescribed therapy for depression. Popular in part because it may lead to less weight gain and sexual dysfunction compared to other antidepressants, it probably lacks significant major therapeutic advantages versus its competitors. While Bupropion may provide some relief, it neither cures depression nor completely eliminates the symptoms.

Schizophrenics in the United States currently fare worse than patients in the world’s poorest countries. Medical journalist Robert Whitaker argues that modern treatments for the severely mentally ill are just old medicine in new bottles, and that we as a society are deeply deluded about their efficacy. The widespread use of lobotomies in the 1920's and 1930's gave way in the 1950's to electroshock and a wave of new drugs. In what is perhaps Robert Whitaker’s most damning revelation, he examines how drug companies in the 1980's and 1990's skewed their studies to prove that new anti-psychotic drugs were more effective than the old, while keeping patients in the dark about dangerous side effects. Robert Whitaker raises important questions about our obligations to the mad, the meaning of “insanity,” and what we value most about the human mind. Treatment Failure? Consider this short, important video playlist: *3 Basic ADHD Medication Challenges* http://corepsych.com/basic-3 Remember this: Prozac and Paxil both significantly block the pathway for the metabolism of Adderall IR and all the amphetamine products for ADHD treatment including Vyvanse, Dexedrine, and Adderall XR. If you take either of these two antidepressants together with an amphetamine, watch out. You can significantly become overdosed on the amphetamine through drug interactions. Often the interaction can unpredictably occur several months later. The patient becomes toxic to the amphetamine, angry, irrational, can't sleep, can't eat, or can become dangerously destructive - even psychotic. The Adderall/Vyvanse/amphetamine often gets blamed. The Prozac and the Paxil are the problems due to inhibiting the metabolism. This specific pathway interaction is relevant also for Concerta and MPH [methylphenidate] products blocking 2D6 when taken with AMP [amphetamine] products. - Should not mix these two. I suffer from bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, and a generalized anxiety disorder. I've tried bupropion better known as its name brand Wellbutrin in the past as my main antidepressant and it didn't work very well when I was prescribed 300 mg of Wellbutrin. The first time around I experienced a lot of paranoia and anxiety. The good thing about Wellbutrin, in my opinion, is once you appear dosage by 100 mg over time and hit that 300 mg a day mark you start to lose a lot of weight. When I first started bupropion I was a little over 400 pounds and when I stopped taking it four months later I was down to 370 pounds. I recently started taking Bupropion xl 150mg along with my other bipolar and anxiety medication and after giving it a few weeks to kick in my depression is finally lifting again. Many people ask how long does it take to see results on Wellbutrin and I suggest you give it at least a month before you make any decisions. My current Wellbutrin side effects are: I have been more physically active, happier, my anxiety is up a little bit, I haven't been taking my normal daytime naps since I haven't been as sleepy, and my weight loss is continuing but that started prior to taking Bupropion XL My current medication stack that my psychiatrist has prescribed for me to battle my bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, generalized anxiety disorder and sleeping issues are: 120 mg of Duloxetine DR a.k.a. Cymbalta used to treat my depression. It also helps with my arthritis pain. 300 mg of Lamotrigine aka Lamictal my mood stabilizer 150mg of Bupropion XL usually referred to as Wellbutrin used to treat my bipolar depression. 200mg of Quetiapine which is an antipsychotic better known as Seroquel 1 mg of Alprazolam which you probably know as Xanax as needed for my anxiety issues. I really try to avoid taking it though. 10 mg of Zolpidem commonly referred to by its name brand of Ambien for my sleep. Thank you for taking the time to watch my video. I've been taking Cymbalta for 15 months due to chronic pain and depression caused by Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Cymbalta has been my personal wonder drug because of its ability to actually make me want to be alive, but it does come with some drawbacks. Side effects that I have experienced include nausea, upset stomach, weight loss, dry mouth, and weird nightmares. But the improvements in my mood and pain have so vastly outweighed the negatives! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I will try my best to answer them! Love, Missi

Dr. Julie Holland argues that women are designed by nature to be dynamic and sensitive – women are moody and that is a good thing. Yet millions of women are medicating away their emotions because we are out of sync with our own bodies and we are told that moodiness is a problem to be fixed. One in four women takes a psychiatric drug. If you add sleeping pills to the mix the statistics become higher. Overprescribed medications can have far-reaching consequences for women in many areas of our lives: sex, relationships, sleep, eating, focus, balance, and aging. Dr. Holland's newest book is titled Moody Bitches: The Truth About the Drugs You’re Taking, the Sleep You’re Missing, the Sex You’re Not Having and What’s Really Making You Crazy. Read more at BigThink.com: http://goo.gl/O8uR Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript: The main kind of antidepressant that is the most popularly prescribed are the SSRIs and these are medicines that increase serotonin transmission. And when you start to push on the doses of these SSRIs you start to lose some sort of quintessential feminine things. First of all it becomes much hard to climax and it becomes much, much harder to cry. But you also see decreases in empathy, in sensitivity, in passion. The simple way of thinking about an SSRI is that you have two brain cells and one is a pitcher and one is a catcher. So pitch, catch. Pitch, catch. So this nerve cell is throwing serotonin across and this one is catching it. What the medicines do is they block the recycling back into the pitcher. So, you know, I’m throwing, I’m throwing, some of this gets caught, some of it gets dropped. It just doesn’t get over there but I’ll suck it back in and try again. So if you block the recycling more is in the middle to get across. So there’s more, you know, the space between the nerve cells is called the synapse. If you block the recycling of the serotonin into the releasing cell more is available for the catching cell. So it ends up enhancing the transmission. How enhanced serotonergic transmission translates into feeling better and feeling less anxious is much more complicated. But, you know, the simplistic way to think about it is that if you have higher levels of serotonin, if your transmission is better you will be more relaxed and more happy. It’s a little easier to smile. It’s a little harder to cry. So, you know, I’ve had patients come to me and say, you know, I’ve tried antidepressants before but they always made me feel like a zombie or they didn’t make me feel like myself. Or I had a patient who said like I cut my finger and I looked down and I saw that it was bleeding and I saw that it was my blood but I didn’t really feel like connected to my finger or the blood. You know, things like that that are really, really worrisome. Or I’ve had patients say, you know, I was in this situation where I knew I should be crying and I couldn’t cry. And, you know, I felt terrible that I couldn’t express that emotion to bond with my friend or something like that. So these antidepressants do scale back a lot of expression of emotion and feeling emotion even sort of thinking emotional thoughts. If you’re terribly depressed and you need antidepressants to get out of bed and function and go to work I get it. That’s one thing. But what I’m worried about is more and more women deciding to go on antidepressants because their friends are doing it and that’s what’s, you know, more and more women who are at work are taking these SSRIs so that they cannot cry, not get flustered, keep going forward. You know I think it jives with this sort of forward momentum agenda that so many of us have and especially in the workplace. But, you know, I would say at what cost? You know it is true that SSRIs can help you get ahead and there have been really interesting animal studies where, you know, the primates who are on SSRIs ascended up the dominance hierarchy. And the ones who became dominated over got stressed out and had lower serotonin levels. So there does seem to be some component of serotonin affecting dominance hierarchies and, you know, the ability to move ahead or to lean in. So I totally get that there are advantages to being on an SSRI in the workplace. But, you’re going to miss out on knowing what’s right because you feel it or being hurt by what somebody said and showing them that you’re hurt. And so that person can learn that their behavior has emotional consequences for other people. So and it changes the whole sort of tone of the workplace. There’s going to be less accountability and less sort of calling people on their misbehavior if you’re not even feeling that anyone misbehaved. [TRANSCRIPT TRUNCATED]

Robert D. McMullen, MD about Medications for Depression & Bipolar http://tmsbraincare.com/medications-bipolar-depression-hd-video/ Medications for treatment of Depression & Bipolar disorders Major depressive disorder is also known as major depression, clinical depression, or unipolar depression. The term unipolar refers to the presence of one pole, or one extreme of mood- depressed mood. This may be compared with bipolar depression which has the two poles of depressed mood and mania (i.e., euphoria, heightened emotion and activity). Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression) causes serious shifts in mood, energy, thinking, and behavior—from the highs of mania on one extreme, to the lows of depression on the other These are of 2 types • Bipolar I disorder involves periods of severe mood episodes from mania to depression. The highs may even require hospitalization of the person. • Bipolar II disorder is a milder form of mood elevation, involving milder episodes of hypomania that alternate with periods of severe depression The depression that people with bipolar disorder experience is generally of a melancholic or psychotic type and therefore more biological in its nature. The depression found in these bipolar patients can be difficult to treat than unipolar depression as the antidepressants can cause them to have greater mood swings. These patients need to be on mood-stabilizing drugs. The antidepressants alone can actually increase the manic episodes and worsen the disorder. Antidepressants: divided into three main classes: • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) - were developed in the 1980's and are the most common prescribed today. They are sold under brand names such as Prozac, Paxil, Prozac, Luvox, Zoloft, Celexa • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) There are three types of MAOIs, phenelzine,(Nardil) isocarboxazid and tranylcypromine, ( Parnate) and moclobemide.) • Tricyclic drugs (TCAs). (sold as Amitriptyline, Imipramine) For effective control and to limit the side effects a combination can be used such as Wellbutrin (or bupropion). Mechanisms of action are different hence lower doses of both help control side effects. The combination of Zoloft and wellbutruim earned the popular name Welloft. The MAO inhibitors are more effective than the SSRI drugs. But can cause severe weight gain and therefore patients need to work on diet control, else the spike in blood pressure can be dangerous. They are contraindicated with drugs that work on serotonin. Lamictal (or Lamotrigine) was FDA approved for treating depression in 2003.The main advantage being, no sexual dysfunction, no sexual side effects and no weight gain. There is no sedative effect and dosage is generally much less than used for seizures. If any of the above mentioned combinations are ineffective in controlling depression, the thyroid hormone replacement drug Cytopan or Cytomel or Synthroid can be added to any of the above drug. Atypical anti-psychotics such as low doses of Zyprexa, or Abilify, or Seroquel, and the latest Quetiapine can also be prescribed. 150 mg of Lithium, normally prescribe for Bipolar at much higher doses, can be used safely without having to get regular blood checks. I get a lot of questions about bipolar medications and, in this video, I answer them; including how they changed my life for the better. If you’re recently diagnosed, one of the biggest problems is finding the right medication for bipolar disorder that works specifically for you. Unfortunately, this can be extremely difficult and exhausting. After my diagnosis of bipolar 2, the first step was trying various medications to see what worked and what didn't. Unfortunately, the side effects of many of these bipolar medications can be severe, such as weight gain, extreme drowsiness, and other effects that hinder a person's ability to function. There was a point that the bipolar medications seemed to only increase my depressive and emotional behavior. I was incapable of communicating properly with those around me. Finally, I went to my doctors and demanded to find the right routine of medications. It took me around 5 years to find a steady regimen of medications that efficiently managed my bipolar disorder without dampening my personality and increasing my weight. I still experience highs and lows on medication, however, I have more control over it, whereas before my condition was in control of me. Hopefully, in the future, research will uncover new treatment methods with fewer side effects. Until then, do not lose hope and continue communicating with medical professionals seeking the right routine of bipolar medications for you. In the comments, I hope you'll share your experience with bipolar meds and, in what ways, have they helped you. ------- Hannah posts a new video every Monday morning on the HealthyPlace YouTube Channel. LINK HERE: http://www.PanicAttacksCure.org FOR MORE INFO | What is Panic Disorder? Panic disorder is an anxiety disorder and is characterized by unexpected and repeated episodes of intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms that may include chest pain, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, or abdominal distress. Signs & Symptoms: People with panic disorder have feelings of terror that strike: suddenly and repeatedly with no warning. During a panic attack, most likely your heart will pound and you may feel sweaty, weak, faint, or dizzy. Your hands may tingle or feel numb, and you might feel flushed or chilled. You may have nausea, chest pain or smothering sensations, a sense of unreality, or fear of impending doom or loss of control. More about Signs & Symptoms: Treatment: Effective treatments for panic disorder are available, and research is yielding new, improved therapies that can help most people with panic disorder and other anxiety disorders lead productive, fulfilling lives. Panic Disorder is a serious condition that around one out of every 75 people might experience. It usually appears during the teens or early adulthood, and while the exact causes are unclear, there does seem to be a connection with major life transitions that are potentially stressful: graduating from college, getting married, having a first child, and so on. There is also some evidence for a genetic predisposition; if a family member has suffered from panic disorder, you have an increased risk of suffering from it yourself, especially during a time in your life that is particularly stressful. Please remember that only a licensed therapist can diagnose a panic disorder. There are certain signs you may already be aware of, though. One study found that people sometimes see 10 or more doctors before being properly diagnosed, and that only one out of four people with the disorder receive the treatment they need. That's why it's important to know what the symptoms are, and to make sure you get the right help. Many people experience occasional panic attacks, and if you have had one or two such attacks, there probably isn't any reason to worry. The key symptom of panic disorder is the persistent fear of having future panic attacks. If you suffer from repeated (four or more) panic attacks, and especially if you have had a panic attack and are in continued fear of having another, these are signs that you should consider finding a mental health professional who specializes in panic or anxiety disorders. Body: There may be a genetic predisposition to anxiety disorders; some sufferers report that a family member has or had a panic disorder or some other emotional disorder such as depression. Studies with twins have confirmed the possibility of 'genetic inheritance' of the disorder. Panic Disorder could also be due to a biological malfunction, although a specific biological marker has yet to be identified. All ethnic groups are vulnerable to panic disorder. For unknown reasons, women are twice as likely to get the disorder as men. Mind: Stressful life events can trigger panic disorders. One association that has been noted is that of a recent loss or separation. Some researchers liken the 'life stressor' to a thermostat; that is, when stresses lower your resistance, the underlying physical predisposition kicks in and triggers an attack. Both: Physical and psychological causes of panic disorder work together. Although initially attacks may come out of the blue, eventually the sufferer may actually help bring them on by responding to physical symptoms of an attack. For example, if a person with panic disorder experiences a racing heartbeat caused by drinking coffee, exercising, or taking a certain medication, they might interpret this as a symptom of an attack and , because of their anxiety, actually bring on the attack. On the other hand, coffee, exercise, and certain medications sometimes do, in fact, cause panic attacks. One of the most frustrating things for the panic sufferer is never knowing how to isolate the different triggers of an attack. That's why the right therapy for panic disorder focuses on all aspects -- physical, psychological, and physiological -- of the disorder. If you take either of these two antidepressants together with an amphetamine, watch out. You can significantly become overdosed on the amphetamine. Often the interaction can unpredictably occur several months later. The patient becomes toxic to the amphetamine, angry, irrational, can't sleep, can't eat, and can become dangerously destructive. The Adderall or Vyvanse often gets blamed. A new study published in the American Medical Association Journal, “Pediatrics,” is raising concerns about a possible link between autism and antidepressants. It finds pregnant women taking antidepressants in the second and third trimesters face nearly double the risk of delivering a child who will be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Tara Narula joins “CBS This Morning" to discuss the findings.

http://bit.ly/yourfreehealthreport The Real Story about Antidepressants that Cause Weight Loss I speaking with a friend of mine I have come to find out about hwo many poeple are looking for the added benefit of using antidepressants that cause weight loss. In my research I have found that using antidepressants and expecting to lose weight has a mixed bag of results. First off using an antidepressant for weight loss is not a healthy option, the side effect seem to be the major cause of weight loss and if you like loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting well then that would be a major issue. Listen we all want to feel good, physically , mentally and emotionally and yes at times ant time the use of an antidepressant might have to be but it should only be a temporary solution and not a life long sentence. It is the same with weight loss. Yes your weight, and your health both emotionally and physically might fluctuate at times but we should always do our best to give our body and mind the proper nutrition , exercise and other natural input to create an environment where the body will thrive. In the process of coaching people on health I do not recommend people using prescription drugs but instead a more natural process to obtain ultimate health . Antidepressant and weight loss are not the best prescription for a healthy life and if that is what you are looking for it might just take a focused approached to create a healthier lifestyle which would in turn give you both, and better emotional feeling about life . Know that food and exercise, believe it or not , have a dramatic effect on both your physical , mental and emotional health . So in conclusion my opinion based on my nutrition and health studies and my research on antidepressants that cause weight loss is don't rely on them because the results will vary based upon your body type and chemistry but instead rely more so on creating a healthy life style and in turn you will lose the weight and feel great emotionally . If you have taken antidepressant medication like Zoloft, Prozac or Lexapro to name a few, you may have experienced bizarre or intense dreams. This very disturbing, it does not mean the medication is making you worse. Antidepressants suppress the REM stage of sleep which is the stage where you dream. The effect of this suppression is that you can get REM rebound where you experience very intense dreams. Changing medication may help as the effect may not manifest as much with the different medication. Do you, like millions of others have stress, anxiety, depression, headaches or insomnia ? or have you ever taken: Xanax, Prozac, Wellbutrin, Celexa, Paxil, Valium, Lexapro, Effexor, Zoloft, Abilify or Cymbalta ? Are you concerned about the side effects and cost of these drugs? You should be, as these drugs just add to the toxic load of your body with new side effects, and often never get to the underlying cause. It is an epidemic that is out of control and fostered throughout the media by the drug companies and the allopathic medical establishment. The NEUROSCOPE... an advanced Micro-Current instrument, is a safe solution !
