Furosemide (Lasix) - Loop Diuretics Generic Name: Furosemide Brand Name: Lasix Furosemide also known as Lasix is a loop diuretic commonly use to treat fluid retention and edema. Which can be associated with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), cirrhosis of the liver, and many kidney disorders. It is also sometimes use to treat hypertension alone or in combination with other anti-hypertensive drugs. Diuretics are medications that increases the amount of water that passes through the kidneys as urine, thus, it is often called water pill. Lasix belongs to the group known as Loop diuretics. There a few types of diuretics and loop diuretics are just one type. It works by interfering with the sodium, potassium and chloride symporter. A symporter is a protein membrane that manages the transport of molecules across a cell membrane. The symporter that lasix interacts with is found in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle. What it does is………. inhibits the reabsorption of salt (Na+) and Chloride (Cl-). Since the Salt and Chloride will be leaving the body system through the loop of henle this means that water will also follow…. causing more water pass through the kidney. Which will ultimately mean, less fluid remaining in the blood stream. Once Lasix is received the system will then compensate the loss by absorbing any fluid accumulated in the tissues, such as in the lungs or legs, back to the blood stream. This will cause more fluid to be in the blood stream. Which once again pass through the kidney, which will also be excreted in the urine, since the loop diuretic inhibits its reabsorption. This mechanism, is what makes loop diuretics a treatment for fluid retention also known as edema. It can therefore, ease symptoms of edema such as breathlessness caused by congestion of fluid in the lungs which patients diagnosed with CHF, cirrhosis of the liver, nephrotic syndrome and other edematous states may encounter. Lasix is available in forms that can be taken orally and intravenously. When taken intravenously, it is considered to be twice as strong. Parenteral or intravenous Furosemide is indicated when a fast acting and an intense diuresis is needed such as in acute pulmonary edema and cerebral edema. It also indicated when oral therapy is not possible because of problem with absorption in the intestine or for other reasons. Parenteral administration should be observed only in hospital or outpatient clinics. However, in cases of emergency that furosemide should be given right away outside hospital setting, recommended doses should be closely adhered to and patient must be closely monitored. Contraindication: Furosemide should not be taken if your patient cannot urinate. Severe Hypokalemia - is a major contraindication. This means low potassium. Lasix can cause a dramatic decrease in potassium level which could cause lethal cardiac arrhythmias Other contraindications include: Hypotension or low blood pressure Lasix should be used with extreme caution for patients who have a diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus because it may May

Lasix Is Your Friend

03:58
http://tinfoilchef.com That's right, Lasix (and diuretics in general) can very much be your friend if you're losing weight. If your timing is right, when you weigh in, you won't have to weigh stuff that you honestly don't want to weigh. I did some before and after weigh ins and found there was anywhere from a 1 to 4 pound difference. Yes, I know, I'm full of it. (but not when I weigh in!) Later today I'll be uploading a recipe video for Grilled Salmon Patty Burgers (grilled on the George Foreman grill that is). Coming soon meringue cookies & whipped cream topping in 1 or 2 days. Not long after that I should have one about a couple of ways that I use to make omelettes. 2 New subscribers: killamofojack http://www.youtube.com/user/killamofojack TheSkirtd1 http://www.youtube.com/user/TheSkirtd1 For a good time watch Community Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/communitychannel "Your Mum does". Edema - Fluid Retention due to Congestive Heart Failure

03:35
Just a short video using my legs/feet to show the concept of edema, or fluid/water retention due to the heart not being able to keep up with the fluid and it pooling in the lungs, legs and feet. MY doctors treat this with Lasix and have added Metalozone; however, this video is NOT MEANT TO GIVE MEDICAL ADVICE. If you are having similar symptoms, consult your physician and do as he/she says. I am just sharing my experience with end stage congestive heart failure. Remember, it is not over until it is over!! Keep up the good fight fellow heart patients.

Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Procedure - Live Surgery

03:02
My Lasik Surgery Video - Medical Videos LASIK, or "laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis," is the most commonly performed laser eye surgery to treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism. Like other types of refractive surgery, the LASIK procedure reshapes the cornea to enable light entering the eye to be properly focused onto the retina for clearer vision. In most cases, laser eye surgery is pain-free and completed within 15 minutes for both eyes. The results — improved vision without eyeglasses or contact lenses — can usually be seen in as little as 24 hours. If you're not a good LASIK candidate, a number of other vision correction surgeries are available, such as PRK and LASEK laser eye surgery and phakic IOL surgery. Your eye doctor will determine if one of these procedures is suitable for your condition and, if so, which technique is best. How Is LASIK Surgery Performed? First, your eye surgeon uses either a mechanical surgical tool called a microkeratome or a femtosecond laser to create a thin, circular "flap" in the cornea. The surgeon then folds back the hinged flap to access the underlying cornea (called the stroma) and removes some corneal tissue using an excimer laser. This highly specialized laser uses a cool ultraviolet light beam to remove ("ablate") microscopic amounts of tissue from the cornea to reshape it so it more accurately focuses light on the retina for improved vision. For nearsighted people, the goal is to flatten the cornea; with farsighted people, a steeper cornea is desired. Excimer lasers also can correct astigmatism by smoothing an irregular cornea into a more normal shape. It is a misconception that LASIK cannot treat astigmatism. After the laser reshapes the cornea, the flap is then laid back in place, covering the area where the corneal tissue was removed. Then the cornea is allowed to heal naturally. Laser eye surgery requires only topical anesthetic drops, and no bandages or stitches are required.

The Side Effects of Apple Cider Vinegar

07:47
The Side Effects of Apple Cider Vinegar WHERE TO BUY APPLE CIDER VINEGAR: https://amzn.to/2MHjIOP "AMAZON AFFILIATE LINK" Apple Vinegar Side Effects #1: Weaken Tooth Enamel Highly acidic drinks like apple cider vinegar can weaken tooth enamel. To protect yourself, never drink vinegar straight. Dilute it with water to drink it. After you are finished, get a glass of fresh water and rinse your mouth out to remove the acid from your teeth. Do not brush your teeth until you have rinsed, as brushing while the vinegar is still on your teeth is more likely to damage the enamel. Apple Vinegar Side Effects #2: Burn Skin and Throat Vinegar has been known to irritate or even burn skin when used at full-strength. Also, one woman suffered permanent damage to her esophagus after getting an apple cider vinegar tablet stuck in her throat. To prevent this side effect, always dilute vinegar before drinking it or applying it to skin. Try to take liquid vinegar drinks instead of pills, and if you do take pills, take them with plenty of water. Apple Vinegar Side Effects #3: Lower Potassium and Bone Density A 1998 case report found that one patient who ingested large amounts of vinegar suffered from low blood potassium levels. As a result, she also suffered from low bone density and osteoporosis. You should stick to low doses of apple cider vinegar or avoid it altogether if you have osteoporosis or if you are taking medicines that could lower your blood potassium levels. Talk to your doctor if any of these circumstances apply to you! Apple Vinegar Side Effects #4: Interact with Drugs Vinegar may interact with certain drugs. Talk to your doctor before you start taking apple cider vinegar if you take any of the following medications: digoxin (a heart drug), diuretics like Lasix, prescription laxatives, or if you take insulin. Apple Vinegar Side Effects #5: Upset Stomach Many people use apple cider diluted in water as a tonic for an upset stomach. However, other people have reported apple cider vinegar side effects that include heartburn, diarrhea and indigestion. Possibly, different people react differently to vinegar based on their different body chemistries. Since vinegar is commonly used as a detox drink, some people may experience these apple cider vinegar side effects as part of the normal detox process. However, if these symptoms make you uncomfortable and do not subside over time, try reducing the dose or discontinuing use altogether. ▷SEND ME STUFF TO MY P. O. BOX Sweet Angel P. O. Let's go over chapter [six] cardiovascular. I'm going to start with just three OTC medications. There really aren't that many Start with OTC anti hyperlipidemia, you'll see these called anti Cholesterol drugs, or Things like that There's, I put that there over-the-counter But they're also by prescription, and it's a little bit goofy so the omega-3 acid ethyl esters are actually Lovaza, which is a Which is a brand name for the prescription Omega-3 acid ethyl esters, and then niacin has a brand name of Niaspan, but you can still find Niacin and fish oil Over the counter which have essentially the same thing. So what's the what's the advantage of getting the prescription? the FDA has tested those particular Medications the omega-3 and the niacin and to know that it's FDA-approved to know that it's at that level of purity [That] can be an advantage The big OTC Cardio drug is something that's been around for a long time Which is aspirin, but it's in used a little bit differently so instead of the 325 milligram aspirin as an analgesic or for fever We're talking about 81 milligrams and We used to have something called children's aspirin. We now know that aspirin can cause Reye's syndrome spelled capital R-e-y-e-s, but pronounced rise like I rise in the morning and This aspirin at 81 milligrams does a good job of keeping the platelets from getting sticky, and there's good outcomes with morbidity/mortality [in] terms of cardiac events like heart attack like stroke, so a daily aspirin The physician tells the patient to take it but they can just find them over-the-counter But a very inexpensive way to help the patient and then just a reminder that this brand name, Ecotrin is "enteric coated aspirin" to help protect the stomach From this non-steroidal, but again this aspirin is not being used for pain is not being used for fever. It's being used because of its ability to thin the platelets Well the first prescription group we have is going to be the diuretics and With the diuretics what you want to do is in your mind picture the glomerulus and from the glomerulus We want to go to the proximal convoluted tubule then to the Loop of Henle then to the distal convoluted tubules then to the collecting duct and I say distal convoluted tubule and collecting duct as separate but Really, we're talking early distal convoluted tubule [It] doesn't really matter as much as getting the order right and the reason this order is so important is that diuresis Decreases as you get further away from the glomerulus So if you think about being on a waterslide at the top of the waterslide there's a lot of water coming out into that slide But as you get to the bottom there's just a little trickle down at the bottom same thing's true here, so the osmotic diuretic Mannitol [brand] Osmitrol. This is used for brain edema [a] very serious event but not used that often So, the next group are the loop diuretics they work in the Loop of Henle, and we have furosemide and This has a stem -semide stem. So there's torsemide, furosemide other diuretics and the the brand name comes from the fact that it lasts six hours so, Lasix and this loop diuretic is used more for congestive heart failure or Severe edematous states where there's a lot of fluid that needs to be taken off Or it might be used if the fluid needs to be taken off quickly When you're talking about treating hypertension. You could use furosemide, but more likely you'll use a thiazide diuretic like hydrochlorothiazide Abbreviated HCTZ One of the brand names is Microzide, it was the capsule form and These thiazide diuretics are more used for somebody who has hypertension So if you look at again the diuresis, the mannitol would be the most furosemide might be a little bit less Hydrochlorothiazide less than that The issue with both furosemide and hydrochlorothiazide is that they decrease Potassium and because they decrease potassium we need to in some way get that potassium back So we have what's called a potassium sparing diuretic Triamterene is one. It doesn't cause...
