08 common Interview question and answers - Job Interview Skills 1. "Tell me a little about yourself." You should take this opportunity to show your communication skills by speaking clearly and concisely in an organized manner. Because there is no right or wrong answer for this question, it is important to appear friendly. 2. "What are your strengths?" This is a popular interview question. They want to know what you think of yourself. Although this is a general question, there is a wrong and right answer. The wrong answer is a generic answer saying you are organized and friendly. Although it will not hurt you during the interview, it will certainly not help you either. Answer this question based on the type of job you are applying for. 3. "What are your weaknesses?" For this answer, you should display a weakness that can be seen as a strength. There are many types of answers that will work. Some answers will be good answers for certain jobs, while the same answer will be a bad answer for a different job. Select an answer that will work for the position you are applying for. 4. "Where do you see yourself in five years?" This question primarily depends on where you are in your career. A person with 5 years of experience will have different goals than a person with no work experience.This question is asked to see how serious a candidate is about his or her career. Some people might not know their goals, and some people might have goals of becoming rich and retiring early. Those are incorrect answers for this question. The type of answer you want to give is an ambitious answer that shows you really love your career. A good interviewer will read between the lines and find out if a person is going to be a hard worker or just a mediocre one. Being descriptive and shooting for a big goal is something interviewers want to hear. 5. "What do you know about our company?" A typical job interview question, asked to find out how much company research you have conducted, is "What do you know about this company?" Prepare in advance, and in a word, research, so you can provide relevant and current information about your prospective employer to the interviewer. 6. "Are you good at dealing with change?" Dealing with change is common in the work place. A simple yes will not be sufficient to impress the interviewer. This is another type of question where everyone will have similar answers. Of course everyone is going to claim being excellent dealing with change. You got to communicate that you are really good at dealing with change. 7. "Do you work well under pressure?" In most cases, the best answer to this question is answering yes. Working well under pressure is a good trait to have. However, I think if you answer that you work the same with pressure and without pressure, the interviewer will be more impressed. However, you will need to explain in words why this is better. 8. "How do you make important decisions?" There are many ways to answer this question, and if you have a reasonable method of making decisions, it will probably be sufficient. One answer I thought of included not being afraid of asking your manager. You can follow up by saying even the best needs mentoring, and you always want to improve. So basically, this could work as an answer, but depending on the job, you might have a better shot with an answer like my example.

How to Effectively Communicate over the Phone? Effective communications over the phone require clarity of speech, knowing what you want to convey, and a willingness to engage with someone using good listening skills and prompts. This article provides some of the basics required to effectively communicate during a phone call. 1.Answer the phone specifying who you are. It can be disorienting for a caller when they don't know with whom they're speaking. Try to have a bright, happy voice when answering too, as this gets the conversation off to a good start. 2.Speak clearly. Pronounce your words well and try to avoid mumbling, gushing, or speaking too quickly. If the person on the other end is hard of hearing or speaks a different language from your own, speak slowly and either raise your voice or speak more clearly than usual. 3.Use words that make sense to the person you're speaking with. It doesn't make a lot of sense to speak teenspeak with an elderly grandmother. She isn't necessarily going to "get it". Adjust your language to fit the listener. 4.Use good & descriptive language when you are trying to evoke images in the listener's mind. If you need to describe something well, try to choose words that identify its shape, color, size, etc. 5.Write down important points before making a call. If you're worried that you'll forget something when you call someone, or that you'll get tongue-tied and not say what you meant to, write a prompt sheet before the call and keep it in front of you. Refer to it if you get flustered during the call. 6.Repeat important points during a call.

The Kimpton hotel chain continues to impress and amaze me. I just had a wonderful stay at their Alexis Hotel in Seattle. The staff was nothing short of amazing. I did some "mystery shopping" for this article by engaging with several of the employees to find out a little about their culture. One of the first things that impressed me was the longevity of the employees. One of the front desk people had been there for 13 years. Another since the hotel had opened. The concierge had been with Kimpton for a number of years and had transferred to Seattle. One of the servers at their restaurant, and I'll get back to him in a moment, had only been there three years, but gave me the same answer that the more tenured employees had given me about why they love working at the Kimpton. The general answer the employees gave me is that they love to service customers and Kimpton has given them the freedom to do so. The lesson here is that Kimpton has created a culture that encourages their employees to meet and exceed their guests' expectations. Sometimes that means a little extra effort and even spending a little extra money to do so. Service doesn't always come cheap, but if the result is creating a loyal customer, the investment into the guest's experience pays off with large dividends. Carlos is the server in the restaurant I mentioned above. I overheard one of his colleagues complementing him on a video. I asked him about it. He said he loved to create videos. His manager, Jenne Neptune, encouraged Carlos to create a Kimpton video. She gave him permission to film at the hotel and post it to YouTube. Carlos said it meant so much to him that his manager would respect his passion enough to let him use it to serve the hotel. This is the perfect example of a culture that exploits the uniqueness and the talents of its employees. While hired to work in the restaurant, Carlos was given the latitude of using his talents and passion as part of his job. As he told me his story, you could tell he was beaming with pride over his video project. As a result, Carlos is more appreciative of his job, has great respect for his manager and has an overall sense of fulfillment. Let's take a lesson from another very cool company, Google. Google wants its engineers to take 20% of their work-time -- that's one day a week -- to focus on company-related projects of their own design. They actually refer to it as "20% Time." This gives the employees a powerful sense of fulfillment deriving from their lead role in the new concepts being developed. I'm not suggesting that every employee be allowed to work a certain amount of time on self-chosen projects, but this may be very appropriate for some of the people in your organization. The concept of letting people do what they love and what they're good at is powerful. It doesn't have to be 100% of their job, although that would be nice. But there should be a part of everyone's job that allows them to do what they love to do, exploiting their unique talents along the way. The result is a more engaged workforce that will work for your company, and most important, your customers. Hi, my name is Jim and I’m a sewer sales technician in the residential home services industry. To give you an idea if this is the right career for you, let me tell you about my day. My number one priority is to consistently provide exceptional customer service. I communicate clearly and present options so customers can make an informed and confident buying decision. It is a privilege that our customers invite me into their homes to do work—that’s something I never forget. I provide camera service for every mainline stoppage within 24 hours; confirm warranty information and educate my customers on the importance of long-term sewer repair and replacement. Many of the calls I take involve situations where the customer is uncomfortable and dealing with a big mess. I stay calm and that helps everyone relax. I also educate customers on the reason for the blockage and use an illustrated presentation guide to help them understand what’s going on. Success starts with me. I work had to create life-long customers who refer our company to friends and family. I know my work makes a difference. I’m surrounded by awesome people. I work regularly with customer service representatives, our dispatcher, the service manager, and our plumbing technicians. To keeps things running smoothly, I make sure to complete all my invoices, time sheets and summary of findings on time. Training is a priority. I attend regular service meetings and weekly one-on-ones with my manager. I have tons of support, not only from my team, but from Nexstar Network. If you don’t know Nexstar, you should. They are a member-owned organization dedicated to contractor success. They provide us with networking opportunities, training and leadership events. Because of them, we get to be the best in customer service, have more profit and happier employees. I can take customer service and sales technique classes. These classes teach me to educate customers on their buying decisions. There is also a training implementation program that I participate in, so that I am supported in what I learned during training once I am back in the shop. I’m all the better because of this training, and so it my company. Only the best contractors belong to Nexstar Network—those with strong ethics, and a sense of professional and social responsibility. In my role, it’s important to bring more energy to the company than I take. If you’re considering this role, consider this: • I always present myself as a professional—especially to my customers, but also to my coworkers. • I know my stuff. I build trust with my customers because I’m an expert and I keep that trust because I’m putting my customers’ safety and comfort first. • With each call I take, a follow a consistent procedure. It’s called the Service System and it helps me truly understand my customers’ needs as well as explore solutions and solve their issues. • I am comfortable presenting options. Customers want choice and it is not always just a basic repair. I document all the choices they have for repair and replacement. It is fun exceeding customer’s expectations here. • I set goals for myself and I’m driven to achieve them. I don’t know if you’ve picked up on this, but I’m a little competitive—I like accomplishing things on my own, but I also like to inspire others to achieve their goals. • I want to be part of something bigger than just a job. To know that I’m in a place where I’m appreciated and where my work has a direct effect on the success of the company. That’s what being a sewer sales technician is all about.
