This list is useless because all it does, like every side side effect list I've looked at for this drug, is give a list of common side effects for ALL medications. I need to find out more about this drug because it has helped me tremendously with my sleeping problems but it causes me to gain weight wth a vengeance. It's like my body is hanging on to every single calorie I take in and stores it as fat. It doesn't matter how much I work out or how little I eat--I just keep gaining weight. It's so bad that I think I need to go off this drug, but when I try I get depressed and panicky and the quality of my sleep suffers. I just don't know what to do. I need more information, and a list like this of common side effects for all meds does not help me.

This drug saved my sanity before my back operation...not for pain but for sleeping.....take earlier in the evening to avoid groggy mornings. Be warned withdrawal is difficult.
Na Noid (9 months ago)
maybe reduce? I wish they made me put weight on....
Nitephall (9 months ago)
Miss ღ Mission ღ Yes, I understand the withdrawal thing. I tried weening myself off Ami and it did not go well. I suddenly felt kind of scared, anxious, and vulnerable inside. Started worrying and fretting about things that Ami made me numb to. Then my quality of sleep got worse. I decided "screw this" and started taking my full dose again. It has been a "miracle drug" for my sleep but it makes me gain weight like crazy. I don't know what to do.
Crazy Villarruel (10 months ago)
I take em for depression . I've had green white orangered pills .. take em here and there don't take it constantly . It's a good drug

Matthieu Vonlanthen (1 year ago)
I used to think like you, but I came to the conclusion that I was being ignorant. It it wasn't for pharmaceutical drugs, we wouldn't have the life expectancy and quality of life that we do today. Drugs aren't perfect, of course, but the good they make generally surpasses the side effects. You just have to take them the proper way and not abuse them.

it's negative side effects are amplified if you're a teen.
Zeomorphia (1 year ago)
I feel qualified enough to make a comment, this drug gave me some form of a life back. I'm not on 10mg, 20mg, I'm on 150mg. I had horrid anxiety and the tension headaches were unreal, at times I wanted everything to stop since the pressure in my head was so intense 24/7. It worked for me, maybe it can work for you.
naemasufi (3 months ago)
hey there Zeomorphia, was on 150mg for over a year, it gave me my life back, no side effects whatsoever. I am sad it doesn't suit all. It was a miracle for me. Ive been on the 30 years now,but now just 50mg at night.
Crazy Villarruel (10 months ago)
Man that's horrid. Max was a red pill. 50 mg for depression. You should ease on that drug though every other other day never everyday . You should try heavy cannabis edibles .

Wanting One Angel (1 year ago)
Marcus Gomez+I hope and pray that your Daughter is doing better now. Amtriptyline can be prescribed for both physical pain or depression. Just that for physical pain, a lower dose is given than for depression. I know because I do not have depression, but I have a condition called Interstitial Cystitis which is very painful, but I did not want to take this drug that my Urologist was literally trying to bully me to take. However, what matters is that your daughter is feeling better now. My prayers are with you.
Marcus Gomez (1 year ago)
it didnt take effect negatively until after 6 months of taking it. But that whole time I had no idea it was for depression. Her entire school year went down hill. She was saD the whole time and we couldnt figure out what was wrong. until after she went to the hospital
Wanting One Angel (1 year ago)
Matthieu Vonlanthen+ Amitriptyline can be a very dangerous drug in that it has the potential to cause heart arrhythmia and obesity. I personally know people that have had serious side effects on Amitriptyline that took it for physical pain. In addition, Amitriptyline has been reported to cause senility in older Adults. These side effects might not have immediately, but they can happen after taking Amitriptyline for months and/or years. Children in particular more fragile and sensitive to Anti-Depressants than Adults because their brains are still developing. This is why it is terrible for any Doctor to give a Child an Anti-Depressant for physical pain. I personally am glad I decided not to take this drug for Interstitial Cystitis Pain because recently I have been having symptoms that indicate that I might have a brain aneurysm. I will be tested for an Aneurysm, which some Family members have died from a ruptured Aneurysm or stroke. If I had taken Amitriptyline and had heart arrhythmia, I could have had a Stroke. It is important to know your Family History of Health Problems when taking any drug.

Be careful with dry mouth because it increases the risk of developing cavities. Chew some sugar free gum or something.

I was in a car accident and my doctor thought to give me 50 mg Amitriptyline for 'muscle' pain. I am on day 3 and I am sicker than a dog. Having just gotten over the flu two weeks ago, I know it's not the flu. I have stomach cramping off and on, uncontrollable bowels, random nerve pain and eye twitching, it feels like my toes have lost circulation. Last night it took 5 hours to fall asleep after taking it. I did not wake up for nearly 12 hours. Someone compared the side effects to feeling drunk. Uh...that is not a good thing. No drug should make you feel sick for 3 weeks before making you feel better. Oh and I have a heart murmer and it causes chest pains. I have an increase and loss in appetite that both come and go and I have no taste. So yea... this stuff is garbage.
Crazy Villarruel (10 months ago)
Your crazy tell your doctor for lower dose .. 50 mg would turn a gorrilla to a sloth.
IowazFullaCorn (1 year ago)
two car accidents.. ridiculous ptsd as for the drugs, they put me on 50 mg immediately, no gradual increase.. that doctor is an idiot
REPO RODGE (1 year ago)
did you taper up to that dose? or just straight in at 50mg ALSO LOOK AT PTSD DRUGS IF YOU WERE IN A CAR CRASH
Felix Burke (1 year ago)
I like this stuff because it's not habit forming like benzos.. However tonight I overdid it and walked in my sleep . I took my dog after deciding that I was going to kill myself He just stood there looking at me and he knew what I was up to. he just dug his little heels in refusing to let me go. I have cancer and I guess I'd had enough with all the useless treatments they have been subjecting me to. Any how he saved my life cos I was determined. Once I was back on earth he led me back into my flat. and I went back to sleep. We are a real team . What a wonderful little feller.

This has to be the most appalling video, I have never seen none of these side affects of these ., close this done. totally incorrect,
PharmacyTrust.com (1 year ago)
Thank you for the response. You will notice that the website you have linked to only mentions the very common and common side effects of the drug, which is useful, but we feel is disingenuous and not transparent to patients. What we're trying to do is present all the possible side effects, be it common, rare, or unknown incidence, in order to document all the possible effects of a drug. We believe patients have a right to know all the possibilities before taking a drug. Healthcare professionals have a bad habit of assuming patients should only know about the common side effects.
With due respect, you still have an appalling website that  perpetuates a hysteria amongst patients who use the drug showing with the worst side affect list affect I have ever seen and I  work in healthcare .  I am located in Australia, and of course we  have  a far  superior example of medical documentation  is supplied by our government  on   a national medicines info site - The product is sold in Australia as ENDEP -  The following website is how a country with a quality healthcare system advise its patients as to the side affects , and all medication information .  Pharmacy trust you have a lot to learn how to show responsible practices. pull your socks up, , http://www.nps.org.au/medicines/brain-and-nervous-system/antidepressant-medicines/amitriptyline/for-individuals/amitriptyline-brands/endep-tablets
PharmacyTrust.com (1 year ago)
Just because you haven't had any of these side effects, that does not mean that they don't happen to other patients. That said, you're right in that many of these side effects are extremely rare
Attlaynta Tilz (2 years ago)
Been taking Amitriptyline 100mg for roughly two months and i find it amazing! The only medicine I've found that actually works. It made me very drowsy for the first 2/3 weeks and I felt drunk at times which went away after 3 weeks on this dose, but it worked! So much better than Fluoxetine or Sertraline.
Wanting One Angel (2 years ago)
I know someone who took Amitriptyline and became Obese. Also, I have read some complaints Online from people who took Amitriptyline saying that they "Could not get out of bed before noon". My Urologist wanted me to take this drug for pain from my Bladder Condition called Interstitial Cystitis. She even called it a "Miracle Drug". I am thankful for this video because this shows me all the more that Amitriptyline is no miracle drug. Although it is said to help with Bladder Pain, one Woman online claimed that it did not help her with Bladder pain from Interstitial Cystitis and that she had "heart arrhythmia", which was "the scariest thing [she] had ever experienced in her life".

Wanting One Angel totally agree! Take care! Thanks!
Nitephall (9 months ago)
Wanting One Angel I totally identify with the "not being able to get out of bed before noon" thing. That was the first effect of Ami that I noticed. All of a sudden I just did not want to get out of bed, even after having 7 or 8 hours of good sleep. It has also caused me to gain a lot of weight. I'm up shit-creek without a paddle here folks.
Wanting One Angel (1 year ago)
Maria Wright+ I was wondering taking Amitriptyline for Interstitial Cystitis pain is a drug that you start out the first week taking 10 mg and increase by 10 mg each week until you reach about 50 mg. For those who take it for Depression the dosage is much higher. How could you stop this drug for five days and not go through withdrawal symptoms? Anti-Depressants stopped suddenly causes withdrawal symptoms. Also, as a warning as you get older be careful because I was also told that Amitriptyline can cause cognitive problems as one ages. Knowing all the serious side effects of Amitriptyline and with Alzheimer's Disease in my family, I personally will never take Amitriptyline as long as I live.

IowazFullaCorn (1 year ago)
Yes, the drug made me cough too.
PharmacyTrust.com (2 years ago)
Hi Jessica, it's unlikely that it's causing it, but still possible. Did the cough start right after you began taking the Endep tablets or did you have it before? If it's been a year and a half you should definitely be seeing a doctor to look you over, and make sure they know you're taking Amitryptiline

what do you mean by "disturbed accommodation"?
PharmacyTrust.com (2 years ago)
Hi squorly, Sorry for the lack of clarification - it means your eye pupils will not dilate and constrict as well as they normally should. As a patient, this means your vision can get blurry at times, or you eyes might become more sensitive to light.
