Warframe isn't on the list because I no longer consider it an MMO. Don't worry guys, I'm going to stream and do videos on Warframe, I know its awesome. Look forward to it appearing on my Top 10 Dungeon Diver list!
Star wars is the single most sci fi mmorpg. I dont think the wow similar game mechanics make it any less sci fi. In fact its the only sci fi mmorpg worth playing imo (from the ones Ive seen and played). Great vid btw.
Is there a good alternative to Firefall? A MMORPG-Shooter mix. Btw Warframe is not like Firefall. I always find in google ppl, who claim Warframe as an alternative but i tested it and its gameplay is very different. I also already found Em8er, but it seems like it will take a good while until it's playable or even finished.
I tested Defiance. I played for about 4 hours so I can't tell much about the mid and late game, but the early game isn't really well made.
First of all it looks and plays very clunky. Cars get stuck or crash against 20 cm "walls". The world itself is also very clunky, for example many invisible walls, that are probably there, because they didn't made the effort for finer hit-boxes for a house or anything else.
The Skill-tree is also very boring. You can invest many hour into it but there are just a ton of boring "skills" like you reload faster or your aim is better. There are only a few interesting skills and passives.
The open world events are also just hordes of enemies and after you killed them you go to another place and do the same. The enemies are also bullet sponges. And I miss the different classes from Firefall. In Defiance everything feels the same. The only differences between the players is their equipment.
Overall I think it's not a good game. The only thing left now is to hope, that Em8er won't do the same mistakes like Firefall did.
Hmm, seems like Defiance is the only good/really similar alternative to Firefall, which is already playable. Ok I will try it out, thx. I just hope Em8er won't make the same mistakes like Firefall and gets shutdown. :S
SWTOR is Star Wars as such but it also means it's not actuall Sci-Fi. SWTOR is Space Fantasy. For that reason I'm not sure if it belongs in this list. And when you see it's a little bit like WoW that's a bit of an understatement. SWTOR is a very traditional sort of MMO with tab targeting, tank/dps/heal trinity and raids, pvp, player housing, crafting etc.
If you like that type of game and haven't played this game there's a lot to like actually. However, content updates are at a trickle for some time now and recent server merges brought it down to 5 servers worldwide (originally there were over 200) and only two of those are actually decently populated. PvP is extremely underdeveloped, guild functions are also extremely limited and housing is hook based and for a big part behind a paywall.
Also endgame has been dumbed down a lot. Only in some raids at higher difficulties you will find challenge but BioWare has made it a point to reward easy modes better than the harder modes.
In my view the original single player campaign which has 8 different stories (1 for each main class) is still the best part of the game and there is some really good stuff in there.
The continuation after that of the story has been reduced to one story for all and not very good in my view. The game has had a number of expansions but these expansions are rather small compared to other MMOs. In fact each expansion got smaller than the one before it. I won't say the game is in maintenance mode but it's also not that far from it. The focus is on the microtransactions and endgame is locked so only subs can participate. They have RNG loot boxes for vanity stuff but because getting BiS gear is so easy in game and content so slow, there is a big pull towards cosmetics in this game.
Also the ingame gearing is a mix of rewards for killing bosses but you can upgrade lower gear to higher gear and you gain in game lootboxes with gear for your class and this means you do not have to do any hard content to gain BiS gear.
I'd say if you like a fantasy MMO set in space (star wars) and are very casual and if you can handle a small community that can be toxic (unmoderated general chat), then you may very well enjoy this game for a while. But depending on how much you play, you may find yourself at a point where your progression in the game catches up with the content in the game and then you'll be waiting for breadcrumbs of new content like the rest.
But SWTOR, just like Star Wars has zero foundation in science. That's ok, space fantasy can be great fun...I just don't see it make sense on a hommage list to Stephen Hawking.
probably is not the best time and place to say this...but I wanna hear it is possible your opinion about some mmo's that nobody talks anymore... games like Aika, Shaiya, Jade Dynasty, Talisman Online,Cabal, Soul Order ( actually this one might be dead ) well you get the idea, hope you will read this. Have a good day and keep it up!
I feel like you should not be monetizing this video. As having Steven's name on it, and especially after stating it's in his spirit/name is going to give you more hits, and thus you're making money off of a man's death. In contrast for instance, Neil released his episode of start talk for everyone, for free because it featured Steven Hawking.
My List not in perfect order
1)EVE Online - STEEP learning curve but if you want a unique mmo experience. This holds it own.
2)PlanetSide 2 - Only thing that really fails this game is its money system. Takes (maybe took) way to long to unlock new stuff. While if you spend money . I never felt like I got my moneys worth even with a sub for a year + buying their currency. Forgot what it was called
3)SWTOR - If you want a solid RPG then play this game. The MMO is just a bonus. I recommend a sub with this, but not required.
4)Wild Star - It isnt perfect but its decent enough.
5)Avorion - more MMO in the aspect of Minecraft of space. Its a game worth any space pilot explorers time.
6)Warframe - A solid game all around, space ninja costume designer the game.
7)Cant recommend any more either because they arent good, I havent played them, or they shut down.
Firefall, another one of my founder fails lol.. but had a lot of fun and it was a great game. Wildstar is a game with so much to offer, but tbh my adult self can only handle so much cartoony humor mixed with sci fi gameplay. STO is definitely niche but I always crashed my ship, (or broke my shields) so I don't drive/shoot in space anymore :) Bless Stephen Hawking and everything he contributed to humanity, thanks for this list ❤️
I was disapppointed with STO after I found out about not working quests for years, tried it on pc and ps4 to get the same result twice(exact same bug),also it seem they only care about the cashshop nowadays, broken quests are staying broken.
The only way for me to get into SWTOR would be loosened the restrictions especially on story contents(that should never be locked in a story based mmo),I really wanted to like it,I do like KOTOR but the restrictions and limitation killed it for me.I hate how it seem to punish budget conscious player/free player by restricting what they have access to.
Firefall impressed me on the technical level : super user-friendly interface and settings. And flying around and driving around was fun! Somehow, it could not keep me going long though (not clear in my mind why).
Planetside II mostly accomplished a feat, that other MMOs have a very hard time doing even in 2018: excellent smooth performance even with hundreds of players doing dynamic combat with various effects. Even when I use to play on an Apple laptop, I had no lag or issues! Oh, and a rank 1 player newbie can defeat rank 50 players around! So it remains a challenging and immersive game years later.
nb: and it is really free. You do not need the paid extra gear. I paid about 40$ for the fun of thanking the company after I played like 400 hours freely.
Skylent please help me
I've been searching for a game that I have played about 4-5 years ago
It's like roblox but not cubic .. The game is based on free open world thing.. you can buy clothes and mounts and travel through worlds buying a house ... It's cartoonic graphics
Moving around the map entering stores with loading screen
Mining things in the world by a pickaxe
It's not a fighting game
The name of the game is something like : Universe 101
Something like this and a number after the name
PLEASE GUYS HELP ME I MISS THAT GAME... Ive RESET MY REGISTER EMAIL CUz IT GOT HACKED...
Worth noting: Defiance gets a remaster sometime soon. Essentially, the same game, but made from scratch, in an upgraded engine, with better graphics, and with all the kinks ironed out. So if Defiance doesn't look like a game worth of your time now, wait nril the remaster comes out and check it out again.
It's not an MMO though. It's more like Diablo's system of co-op gameplay. Even Plains of Eidolon is just a massive map for 4 player co-op. WF doesn't work as a pure MMO because of how powerful the Tenno are in-game. You won't see one person in a regular MMO zone destroying literally a hundred enemies within 2 seconds.
Eric Ward Please. It's a corridor shooter. You may be able to get more than 4 players actually playing the game together in the one new open zone, but in practice it never happens. 95% of the game is still focused on a small team or solo play.
YuriNoirProductions hey you must have played do so I have a question would you be interested in a isometric space shooter really similar to do on Nintendo switch/pc with campaign along with multiplayer ?
As a longtime SWTOR player (been there for 4 of its 6 years), I can say that if you pay $15 once - which is the price of a 1 month of subscription - you get to own all currently released content forever, meaning that you can do everything and play all expansions with no extra cost, even months or years after your subscriptions runs out if you don't wish to renew it.
There will still be limitations compared to an active subscription, but I haven't resubscribed in at least 2 years (other than once a couple months ago to be eligible for a special promotion) and didn't really feel restricted too much.
It's worth a try for Star Wars fans, vanilla content (lv1-50) is incredibly well written, and with 600+ hours of full voice acted and animated cutscenes, there's a lot to see for everyone.
