ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES — The United Arab Emirates is considering building an artificial mountain to increase rainfall and address the country's water shortages.
The International Business Times reports that according to the UAE's Federal Water and Electricity Authority, an average resident uses an estimated 550 liters of water daily — almost two to three times the international average of 170 to 300 liters.
The high consumption is especially problematic as water in the region is in very short supply due to the arid climate and naturally low precipitation rates.
Arabian Business reports that the government has already turned to artificial weather modification. In 2015, $558,000 was spent on cloud-seeding. In February of the same year, the U.S.-based University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) received $400,000 in funding to produce a development plan for a man-made mountain.
UCAR is in the early stages of the project. It is collaborating with the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) in a modelling study to evaluate the effects building a mountain would have on the weather, and what height, width and location would be best.
Mountains force air to rise up into the atmosphere, where it cools and condenses into clouds. The clouds then produce rain or are seeded to stimulate precipitation.
But cloud seeding can have undesirable outcomes, such as too much rainfall or none at all. Due to the rain shadow effect, an artificial mountain can inhibit rainfall on one side, causing that area to become more parched, according to Discovery.

This opens a lot of possibilities for flat areas below sea level such Miami, Tampa Bay and Jacksonville Area's in Florida, Nashville Area in Tennessee, Houston, San Antonio and Dallas Area's in Texas, Kansas City Area in both Kansas and Missouri also that goes for some areas on the East Coast that can use some mountains such as Atlanta Area in Georgia, Charlotte Area in North and South Carolina, Philadelphia Area in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey, New York Area in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, Boston Area in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, Toronto Area in Ontario.
If you do decide to make this, then do please add at least 6-8 giant (retractable if possible ) fans...'drought on the other side ' -effect could be reduced for one, second, when fans will run (to pass the air through), you would get electricity (byproduct), and when you need rain you could shut down and shield those fans, and do what you've made the mountain to produce, rain...thanks /TGCSII (dhaka, bangladesh)
I'm American , i think Uae people are GOOD , And even if There is actually a difference between Religions and Terrorists, you guys have UAE done anything to harm your country or even harm YOU? No, and other than that terrorism bullshit , the 9/11 was all Bush's fault, he just convinced osama bin laden to send one of his workers "mohammed atta" to bomb the world trade center , America did that to make people think that it's the muslims fault and i honestly disagree with that kind of thing! I wish , MOST OF us which that all countries become united and become something everygood people has to expect. And BTW why are people hating on what uae is trying to do, for you to vist afterwards ? I read some comments saying that terrorists will come and bomb it which i see is unpleasant to say , inwhich ever case UAE is one of the saffest country in ASIA and the #1 middle east (optional) , I that for one fact america has a little bit of connection with United arab emirates , if you saw the news you can see donald trump handshaking with sheik khalifa bin zayed al nahyan. , and with a good smiley face , so this is how humanity has to spread , Love,Respect to each other.

Beautiful. I can now safely point and laugh.

+Ryan Leonard Let me know how the metal holds up in salt air? Also let me know how long it produces fresh water for. Maybe a year or 2 max until it becomes rusty water.
Guess they really all combined their minds on this one.
Don't confuse the UAE with Saudi Arabia, Sure all Muslim majority countries are awful, because a large majority of them lean toward Islamism, but Saudi Arabia is an absolute shithole out of all of them, they are the prime reason why ISLAM needs to go extinct.
hs muhairi one decade ago, when Dubai was basically just a desert everywhere you go, and i do remember this when people say that Dubai must went crazy, they are losing on this one, they will give up, its just a dream,...act

1. Singapore is in a tropical climate with extremely large rainfall
2. Singapore has a giant tropical mountain range that captures tons of water
3. Singapore is 277 sq mi the UAE is 32,300 sq mi
4. One day in Singapore receives more rain than UAE in a year.
5. You comparison couldn't be anymore untrue.
+Ryan Leonard I'm not religious, I'm an Athiest. I live on Earth, like everyone else does, obviously, but natural moutains are created over millions of years, allowing the planet to adjust and prepare for the changes that happen in nature. If you throw a moutain in the middle of the desert, intending to bring wetter weather to a place that isn't ready for that drastic of a climate changes. Eventually it will affect the jet stream, the ocean currents, not to mention turn the desert into a bowl of mud. The natural changes to our planet are SLOW, it's the humans that rush and race the Earth to adapt to us, when it should be us adapting for the Earth. Does that explain what I meant better?
Because mass immigration isn't sustainable, Especially when that changes the demographics of the population and can cause massive harm to the country and economic structure. But yeah totally because fuck you...
