Today I’m going to discuss popular medications for Erectile Dysfunction (ED), pros, cons and important health warnings. I’ll quickly cover how they work, how you can make them work BETTER and lastly, natural alternatives.
PDE-5 (Phosphodiesterase type 5) Inhibitors
So the first type of drugs I’ll discuss, also happens to be the most popular and these are PDE-5 inhibitors, such as Viagra (sildenafil), Cialis (tadalafil) and Levitra (vardenafil).
Viagra works the fastest, in about 30 minutes and lasts about 4 hours. While Cialis is the slowest -- takes about an hour or two to start working, but lasts about 2 days. Thus, known as the “weekender” pill.
The biggest problem with these drugs is they do NOTHING for improving your sex drive and libido. Taking these drugs alone will not cause an erection. They must be taken in combination with some form of sexual stimulation.
Another common problem with these drugs is side-effects such as low blood pressure, which is the original REASON these drugs were made. In fact, “erections” are a side-benefit of these drugs.
There are other problems such as vision, sinus and headaches.
Lastly, the lower your testosterone levels - your primary “sex drive” hormone - the LESS effective these drugs are. In fact, this is the primary reason they don’t work in about 25% of users, especially “older” guys who need it the most … Because they have “low” testosterone levels.

Next is one of the least popular and that’s injections into your penis. A typical one is Caverject, which is a prostaglandin (PGE-1).
