I have a legitimate question for all the feminist watching, what made you become a feminist?
Micah Johnson (3 months ago)
GOD has made man and woman, with distinctions. Woman was to assist Man, as a helper. Man is to rule over Woman! There is masculine and feminine things. Man and Woman should act according to their nature. GOD has the greatest authority for He designed you, and He is always right. feminism attacks the traditional family. It is a social evil. It tries to redefine masculinity and femininity. In doing that you destroy civilization. It causes single mothers, who do not discipline their children which grow up to have emotional issues, which translate into rebellious behavior which become a nuisance to society. What empowerment? Did you know one who seeks to be mighty and high, not according to merit is to be humbled? Woman should know her place as GOD has made.

Allow me to clear the air on this bullshit right the fuck now. Feminism has absolutely nothing to do with witchcraft, never has, never will. Feminists seem to think that just because a lot of women practice something (like yoga) then that must mean they need to dip their fingers into the honey pot and ruin it for everyone. Witchcraft (in almost all forms) and feminism can never coincide because they have completely conflicting ideologies. Furthermore, witchcraft has very little to do with conjurations, spells or any of that other dumb shit. Keep your political ideology away from people's spiritual beliefs and stop spreading your nonsense. And just because you picked up a spell book at Barnes & Noble doesn't mean you know jack shit about paganism or witchcraft. Oh and guess what else...Wicca is fake, it was just some made up shit in the 18th century to scare people into Christianity. You dumb asses would really benefit from reading about Celtic and Norse history, I mean actually history, not some dollar store spell book. God my braincells are popping just by watching this. And I really don't appreciate this bitch making a mockery of other peoples spiritual beliefs with that stupid fucking hat and cheesy lightning effects.

I am a witch irl and a woman, but this is ridiculous on so many levels. I know you tried to make it a positive thing with some of the things you were saying, but the idea of these women gives us real witches a bad name. I find it very offensive, and demeaning to those of us who practice actual Witchcraft.

Deuteronomy 18:9-12 “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you.

The ironic thing is, at this present time, we are equally slaves to corporations and personal gain. The "option" of being a stay at home parent of either gender is almost completely gone. This whole gender/race inequality notion is simply a smoke screen for the real problems of the world. Unchecked Capitalism. The reality is, Asian americans make more that whites, Asian women make more than their male counter parts. Nigerian americans make more than "white males". All this is true because these people actually try their hardest to make something of themselves. Just a taste of reality.

Hey cristen. I just got a promotion at my job that puts me in a position of power being in charge of about 20 other people (most of them men) and I'm finding it a lot more difficult than I though it would be. Seeing all the other men who have had my position before me made me want this position very badly. I didn't realize how different it is with women. You're one of two extremes, a <female dog> or a carpet to walk all over and I'm finding it to be really tough to keep a balance on top of all of my new responsibilities. Any advice?

I have a question for you(please replace my name with another name). Why are females expected to wear such elaborate clothing and spend so much time preparing for everything. As a teenager whenever my mother does my hair I get envious of my literal black brothers who don't have to wear a head scarf themselves and only have to wash, comb, and moisturize their hair to get my mother's seal of approval while I have to do that add on the scarf, and braiding my hair ends up being so complex I mess it up if I do it myself.

This is off the current topic, but could do a video of your take on the 5 Love Languages at some point? Personally, I think the theory is very sound and helpful to pretty much everyone. There's an entire series of books so anyone can find the one that best suits their particular situation (for instance I have the one aimed at singles), but the basis of them all is the same.

This was really interesting. Protest by just totally coming out of left field with something completely bizarre. I feel like protests could be a lot more effective if more people did weird stuff like this. It's easy for people who don't care to ignore normal angry protests because they're desensitized, but doing something really unusual makes everyone take notice, so even conservative pundits might end up giving you attention and a chance to make your case because it's delivered under the guise of entertainment. It's like the "I love Boobs" breast cancer shirts. That acronym really wouldn't work in today's world though... :0

Evening Dim (1 year ago)
Alright pagan commentors. I agree that the narrarator treated spells like an unrealistic, silly-but-cool thing. That was discriminatory and unacceptable. But Americans have witches as a part of their (non-believing) mythology. You can't get mad at them for dressing up as a witch anymore then a vampire. Yes, people in the past were accused of being witches and tortured, raped, and killed for it. That's terrible and we all know it. But people were also murdered for being vampires, werewolves, and changelings. We have a modern day vampire culture. We have people who suck blood, wear fangs, and partake in its lifestyle. They don’t get offended with people cosplay as vampires. They know that the modern myth and their lives are two different things. Also, religious Witches aren't all Wiccan. Stop that. Most Wiccans are Witches, but not all Witches are Wiccan. There are Hellenic-witches, Judeo-witches, Atheist-witches, non-Wiccan-based-eclecticism-Witches, and many more. How about you check your Wiccan privilege at the door, hmm?

Could you do a video about moles (as in melanin, not mammal)? When I was a teen I was self conscious about the moles on my face and compared myself to the blemish-free beauty standards. I am a lot less bothered by this now but sometimes it still bugs me. All the airbrushed models without so much as a freckle can give an unrealistic impression of real skin.

Hey Cristen, Could you do a video on Birth Rights / Birth Trauma? There are a lot of misconceptions about women's bodies and choices when it comes to the laboring and birthing process. The idea to, "trust the professionals" when they have more of a medical view on birth vs. allowing a woman to natural progress and trust her body in low risk pregnancies. Some second time Mom's choose a home birth or the use of Midwives & or Doula their second time around because they felt pressured into unnecessarily medical interventions against their will. More educated and now equip with more information and an advocate, their experience can feel far more empowering. Ina May Gaskin is a great place to start :)

Credit must be given to the woman in the video for talking about something deeper, that no other feminists or anti- feminists have talked about. With that said, I'm a former Anti- feminist activist and a born- again Christian. And the only solution for Caucasian men to eliminate feminists from there lives is to replace Caucasian women with East Asian women for their friendships and intimate relations. Feminism was started by all Caucasian women and, since then, feminists have consisted of at least 95% Caucasian women. That has been in the estimated number of Caucasian feminists compared with that of all other races of feminists, and in the estimated per capita number of Caucasian feminists compared with that of all other races of feminists. And though feminists have stated that they intend to make the entire world feminists, the entire world never has been one type of person. So there's reason to believe that all future Caucasian women will be feminists, and that future feminists will continue to consist mostly of Caucasian women. The bottom line is there always will be Caucasian men who are not feminists and that, in the near future, all Caucasian men will be without any Caucasian women who are not feminists. And, compared with all other races of women, East Asian women always have been the most similar to Caucasian women without the feminism.
your converse highs (1 year ago)
Why are you against feminists exactly? Do you even know what the word feminist means? There is no need to eliminate feminists. Also, you do know that most men (depending where you live) are feminists nowadays, right? And by the way, don't your religion as a way to make you look good. It just makes you look petty. Take your 'anti-feminist' comments someplace else.
ambermichelles (1 year ago)
Paganism is an actually religion. People call themselves witches like people call themselves priests.
TibGabinius (1 year ago)
Don't put anything in my mouth. I did not say that christianity is "more of a real religion", and i didn't used the word "real" at all. That said and assumed that you did not want to do that, let me clearify my statement. "paganism" is not a "real religion" - because it WAS a category of several religions who are now all long time gone. Like i wrote before. When it comes to Wicca it is hard to categorize or name, because of its nearly undefined character. If you go for any dictionary, you ll find words or phrases telling you, that a religion is "a set of (fundamental) beliefs and practices". As you can find out by reading the books of those who practicing Wicca, calling themselves "witches" and so on, this is hardly the core of Wicca. Some belief in a natural spirit, some in some kind of godness, some in a "float of energy" and so on. Some parts, as i wrote, are taken out of historical sources (valid or not), others are completly made up or "result of the moment". There are no mandatory rituals you need to attend as far as i know, which are accept of all members of the "Wicca". Still, i don't try to lecture those, who call it a religion, cause its not of my concern what others call it. Thats why i wrote the sentence "(...)religion or cult (or however you want to name it)". The whole intend of the answer above is the difference of "calling themselves witches" and becoming a so called priest here in Europe. Which is not what ambermichelles wrote. You can ask for my personal definition of religion and you can ask me for my religion and you can ask me how i stand towards other religions. None of these points i inserted in my first answer. Have a nice day.
your converse highs (1 year ago)
+TibGabinius what makes Christianity any more of a 'real' religion?
TibGabinius (1 year ago)
Only in the U.S. and also there only some evangelical confessions. Here in Europe and in the catholic or certain other christian confessions you ve to study... before you can be for 2 or more years in the educational system of the churches and then you can MAYBE call yourself a priest, if the churches accept you and you get the consecration. And "paganism" is not an actually religion - its a brand (or more a couple of branches) of religions of "ancient" heritage. So to say the polytheistic religions of the greeks, romans, celts and germans - to name a few. Those are dead and some people try to revive them - which is quite hard, because we have no knowledge of the most rituals and traditions within and those who could teach them are dead for a while (in case of the celtic druids in fact since the manhunt of G. Iulius Caesar). What you refer to is the "Wicca" religion or cult (or however you want to name it) which is "Neo-paganism". They created a lot of their believes and rituals by their own and cant call e.g. ancient sources (or any other historical) for the most of it. They admit that themselves. The system of believes in Wicca is not manifested like in most monotheistic religions. Some comparisons fits more than others...
Chris B (1 year ago)
Really interesting video. I think a lot of people have forgotten or never knew that discriminating based on gender was still ok and mostly legal even after the Civil Rights Act because gender wasn't sufficiently specifically addressed. When people long for the "good old days" I think they are usually uninformed.
Ella Spirella (1 year ago)
this was sooooooo hilarious and informative at the same time.
Nik LoP (1 year ago)
Okay but like wicca is actually a religion. its kinda interesting how they took our bs stereotypes (especially after we had people killed due to stereotypes, ei: salem witch trials), and paraded around. Wicca always gets pushed aside as fake, or just a hippie thing that isn't a real religion and as someone raised wiccan, joining religious festivities, and a coven since i was a baby, it's rather upsetting. This is in no way me attacking you, but maybe i can bring attention to a very old religion that tends to get disrespected; then maybe people will put down the green face paint and pointy hats and actually educate themselves.
Mokko (1 year ago)
Wicca was made up less than a century ago and introduced in 1953 by some nutter named Gerald Gardner. There is nothing ancient about it except that it literally rips off actual ancient pagan traditions from various religions, changing them ever so slightly and slaps a new name on it much the way ancient Christianity has done when trying to appeal to possible converts. The Salem witch trials happened 260 years before Wicca was even invented. Electron microscopes were around 20 years before Wicca. Radio broadcasting was around almost 40 years before Wicca. Singer sewing machines were around a full century before Wicca. Yes, Wicca is a religion. That is a fact. However, so is Pastafarianism is parts of the world and Scientology. It's absurdly easy to be recognised as a religion in the States. John Oliver even did this for his show to prove how easy it is. If you want to practice Wicca, that's fine. What's not fine is pretending that Wicca is an ancient religion. Educate yourself before telling others to do so.
ReturnOfTheScrapIron (1 year ago)
Or in your case, lack thereof.
Evening Dim (1 year ago)
Witchcraft isn't Wicca. Not all Wiccans are witches (though the majority are), and many witches aren't Wiccan.
your converse highs (1 year ago)
I hate to see religions disrespected and thought of as a fad or a trend. I hate when people say that Christianity or other big religions or real because they have the Bible/other religious books and lots of people believe in it. Religious books are just that-books! You can choose to believe them or not. I am an Atheist but my parents are both Christians and guess what? We accept each other's beliefs. I don't know why some people can't accept other people's religions.

As a pagan I'm sitting here thinking...wow. And I'm wondering if they were unaware, or just ignored the fact that, men can also be witches. Really, a witch is just someone who practices magic. Yeah, I know they didn't practice actual witchcraft (ok, I'm making assumptions) but I still have to wonder how much they knew about witches before calling themselves witches.

Feminism is just another power/superiority group, similar to black power groups or the KKK. Extremist groups are always a threat to society.
Eleanor Forrest (16 days ago)
Okay, let's set the record straight. Originally, feminism was in no way like what it's become today. The first real feminists were the suffragettes, who went through horrible things to try and obtain the right for women to vote and be treated as equal to men. For many years, feminism was in no way radical or "dangerous" at all; it was simply women and men who were working harder for a fairer society. HOWEVER, I do admit that third wave feminism has gone to the dogs. Many scumbags who are actually not true feminists at all (because, by the way, the definition of feminist is someone who believes in gender equality and that nobody is superior to another) hide behind the term as a way of trying to normalize their misandry. In spite of all this... I still think feminism is still needed because although women are treated well here in the West, you cannot say the same for other parts of the world. Also, many people don't realize that ACTUAL feminism includes fighting for the rights of men too! Apparently women these days have certain legal advantages over men and I believe that is totally wrong! Rather than stamping out what was once a perfectly reasonable movement, we ought to work together to reform it!

I have kind of a weird and long story for you involving an all-girls production of Lord of the Flies that I was in that got some sexism flying around in the reviews and articles. I'd like to share with you information about some of the offensive comments, which range from fat shaming to straight up saying that the classic story was 'more disturbing' with women, as well as share my experience as a young actress playing an originally male character (female characters tend to be lacking in development) and leaving behind the femininity. You seem like someone who would be interested in looking at this complex and unique issue. I also think it would make a very interesting video. Could I possibly email you about this? If I understand correctly meninist is about the advocacy of men's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to women, so they are all about equality. They actually do a lot to help women, like dismantling toxic femininity which hurts women.

cOmAtOrAn (1 year ago)
You're conflating witchcraft and Neopaganism. They may be related, but they're very different things.
Evening Dim (1 year ago)
The problem is that pagans who practice spells reclaimed the word "witch" and now get upset when people act out in their modern mythology. If you called yourselves "sorcerors" you'd be upset over star-covered hats and long beards. The mythological witch in here isn't an issue, it's her modern mythology (albeit a cultural one without belief). The most problematic thing here would be the narrator treating spells like they're some cool but silly thing instead being a sacred religious practice.

I think it's a bit wrong but at the same time I do feel it's a bit funny.

PLEEEAASSEEE PLEASE PLEASE Do a SMNTY podcast on witch hunts in both Europe and the Americans anywhere else in the world. I would die from joy to further understand the persecution and history of women in these hunts.

Cat Kittenson yes yes yes

Great video! The feminist witchcraft podcast actually made me a regular listener of SMNTY podcasts, it was so good! I'm probably going to benefit from it both personally and maybe even academically, so thank you very much for that! Always nice to be reflective and inspired...

Real life covens exist. I know a second-wave lesbian seperatist one.
Ryungun Rie (1 year ago)
Seems like these witches were a bunch of rich white bitches LOL
Evening Dim (1 year ago)
No, they have a point. Feminism being dominated by rich & middle class white women is a thing. Though at 2:44 one of the women in the back look possible like a POC.

Actually, alchemy is a thing. It is indeed possible to create gold from other elements, though the amounts are sub-microscopic and the process costs far more to create than the resulting gold is worth.
Annika Friedrichs (1 year ago)
There is also a philosophical side to alchemy. Let's not forget that alchemy and magic laid the groundwork for what we call sciences today. Yes, a lot of it was bogus, but without it, we wouldn't have progressed as far as we have.

I've never been updooted for being early 😔🙃

And what exactly is updooting?
SuperIcelight (1 year ago)
Going slightly off topic here, but the stereotypical witch with green skin and a crooked nose is anti-semitically coded, so maybe it's not the best thing to use this aesthetic as a joke.
Lark Druid (10 months ago)
Black magic is a racist term. It's not specifically destroying and cursing. It's just black people magic, hence the connotation of evil because racism

YumLemmingKebabs dude, what people here are doing is revealing *facts* BECAUSE people don't know, and that never something to be ok with. don't be ok with staying ignorant about something because it's convenient.
Ruby Stern (1 year ago)
SuperIcelight well Semitic people are black, u may be referring to the white Khazars who call themselves Semitic but are not of the true tribe of Judah the Semitic chosen tribe of Yahawah. The Khazars were extremely adept in the black arts, more so than most other cultures so I would say that the stereotype was rooted in fact . People hate the truth but it's impossible to outrun it

Jew jokes are good. My source? New York jews.
