Sertraline (Zoloft): What You Need To Know

1121 ratings | 125664 views
Sertraline is an antidepressant in the SSRI class. It’s used for depression, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, and a number of other conditions. After entering the market in the early 1990s, sertraline became one of the most popular antidepressants. The drug is used in adults, adolescents, and children. There might be greater concerns and lower efficacy in young people. I can happily encourage people with depression and/or anxiety to take this. Before i thought that Ssri/Snri medications didnt work and were "placebo". Now, after 5months on this medication i can say it really works. I was severely depressed before, now im ok, almost happy. which is a huge difference. This also reduces anxiety. If you have depression and/or anxiety ask your doctor for this medication, it really works well. It gives you energy and makes you satisfied and almost happy.

I take 100 mg sertraline and 2mg clonazepam a day. been almost 3 years of religious use now..I feel okay but I'm definitely  very physcially dependent on the klonopin and that is annoying but over all these meds combined, have given me my life back.

I also use medical marijuana in the evening to night time to help me sleep and eat.

Will i put on weight with sertraline?
Danielle Leclerc (1 month ago)
Drugs work differently for each person. I tried Zoloft however I stopped and tried Wellbutrin which I heard amazing things about. Unfortunately I had insane hilucinations on that drug so then I tried trintillex which made me gain weight. So now I am back to Zoloft. It has worked the best thus far. My side effects have been exhaustion and zero sex drive.

Gary Simone: I don't recommend cannabis. I had anxiety and derealization after it. I was smoking for 5 years and now I need to treat my GAD and social anxiety with sertraline.
Austin Hernandez (1 month ago)
I've only taken it for 2 weeks and I've notice that my anxiety has reduced greatly already. I have noticed that it DEFINITELY stops premature ejaculation too, because while I'm a virgin, I do masturbate, and it takes me much longer to reach orgasm. I'm not arguing with that though, because I've been like addicted to masturbation, so this is turning me off and stopping me from doing it, so this is actually a benefit for me too.
Rex (1 month ago)
I've taken it couple years and see no reason to stop. It also worked on me in less than 2 weeks and just got better when dose was raised from 50 to 100 mg. And every week was better even after that. I used to be pissed all the time and have hours of rage with no real reason, now most things are like "whatever". Oh, and I also went from masturbating three times a day to masturbating once in three days. At first reaching orgasm was really hard, but it eased up in three months.

Why do some people take drugs and die right away while others can take em all the time? Because every drug has a different effect on your brain chemistry. Everybody’s brain chemistry is different. Man the ignorance on this page. Don’t smoke weed with an antidepressant or any any drugs unless u are prescribed. Simple 😂🤦🏽‍♂️
FaunOfTheDevil (3 months ago)
Sertraline allows me to function like a regular person. I've been taking it for over a decade, and I owe a lot to it. But, what works for me won't necessarily work for someone else. Still, if you get this prescribed to you, give it a chance before you write it off entirely.

Zoloft was the first psych med I was started on. I couldnt swallow pills at that time, so I had to get it in a liquid form. It must be diluted in either Sprite or orange juice. Upping my dose just a couple milliliters sent me into a wild psychotic break that lasted for hours. Screaming, crying, howling, ripping my hair out in chunks, pulling my eyelashes off, ripping the skin off my arms until it bled, rocking back and forth... it was fucking terrifying... since then, and 5 years later, I still have restless legs, akathesia, from the overdose. Thinking it might have been serotonin syndrome... be careful with this shit, guys.

Who ever is buying this crap doesn't want to hear anything negative, the world has negative objectives that we can't stop, by taking sertreline, your just not going to face it and block it out, but not naturally, but by ruining your brain cells.
The Drug Classroom (5 months ago)
"Ruining your brain cells" is not a scientific or accurate description of anything sertraline does. It frequently has negative effects, but not for that reason.
Alienart (5 months ago)
Sertraline has helped me quite a bit. Yes, I want to sleep a lot and my sex drive is lowered a bit (but it's still strong enough and I'm 62), but this is a small price to pay compared to being nearly paralyzed with anxiety, being unable to answer the phone or to make calls or do my job efficiently.

Damn, these comments are so extreme and negative! I started Zoloft a few days ago and the side effects are very mild and I feel very stable. I've taken SSRIs for 2 years and they changed my life exponentially for the better! I know everyone reacts differently but Y'all dramatic as fuck! Try approaching this with some objectivity. If they don't work for you try something else. If they end up having bad side effects for me you won't find me bitching in some comments section about how SSRIs are the devil. Good God Get A Grip Girl!

BRAIN ZAPS ARE REAL... beware of SSRI's, they're way more dangerous than everyone wants to admit.
rocknrollboise (6 months ago)
I completely agree, but there are SO many other ways to treat those things than SSRI's... They were not originally approved for long-term use (something I honestly wish any of my doctors would've told me 8+ years ago) and the bulk of the serious side effects only start to be apparent after you've been on them for a year or two. Believe me, I get it. Depression/anxiety truly suck, but there are PLENTY of safer options. I'm currently in the process of switching from Zoloft/Prozac to Wellbutrin which doesn't have even close to as many long-term side effects (I actually haven't noticed side effects of any sort, compared to SSRI's which I've been taking for most of my adult life, unfortunately). Love the channel, btw!
The Drug Classroom (6 months ago)
Untreated depression, OCD, and anxiety can also be problematic. SSRIs aren't uniformly negative and unjustified for everyone.
Nate Crawford (6 months ago)

Been on this drug for four days. I have pounding headaches, extreme fatigue, insomnia, increased anxiety, aches and pains including tooth sensitivity. I don't know if this is normal but I'm scared. It's supposed to help my depression but I couldn't stop crying today from the fear and pain caused by this drug. Does anyone else have a similar experience?

Kiara Black (5 months ago)
Adam Nesbitt When you're desperate for something to get you out of the dark place you're in, you will try anything. You won't care about silly labels. As a medical professional, the doctor should be responsible for informing patients about their medication and the risks that it may have.
Adam Nesbitt (5 months ago)
Kiara Black I was never informed either. I was written a prescription and before I used it I went home and read about the unfamiliar substance I was to start taking every day. Because I am not owed by my doctor, but I owe it to myself to educate myself. I wasn't being rude, just matter of fact. The information is out there and people seem to choose ignorance so they get a free pass at blaming the doctor because drugs have side effects.
Kiara Black (5 months ago)
Adam Nesbitt That's rude. My doctor never told me any of this when prescribing the drug. I was never informed that you get worse before getting better. People suffering from severe mental health problems shouldn't be duped into taking potentially dangerous drugs like that, nor should they be shamed for choosing to stop medication or reach out for advice if something goes wrong.
Adam Nesbitt (5 months ago)
It's been four days. You get a long list of possible side effects including the fact you'll often feel worse before you feel better, and the fact it takes 4-6 weeks to fully kick in. Read.

I just started on this medication at 10 mgs it's okay i had my doc to prescribe me low doses am not constipated helps my stool movements i have diagnosed & battling ,OCD, M.depressions,GAD, dermatitis, carpal tunnel, internal bleeding, severe scar tissue damages, acid reflux & diarrhea episodes, plantar fascitis, anxiety, post pardom, cholesterol, high bl pressure, severe anemia complications, hypertension, chronic fatigue, asthma but i try to break my meds down at times but what is bad is when the main active ingredients are time released that is what causes most to overdose now i do take herbalist tabs use 100 % oils all helped me a huge great deal sad were prescribed these meds then the doctor's & pharmacies turns on patient's accuses us being drug addicts knowing that these health ailments are hereditary that can not be healed but subsided! & Now its illegal to mix benzo's with anti or anxiety meds..smh alprazo's actually work on me better then anti depressants i like to be painless, energetic, alert taking this med i feel lazy, slurring, constant yawning..smh i have to take energetic herbal or medication tabs to balance the drowsy lazy effects.
Michelle Lopez (5 months ago)
I had this medication switched out just recently it's not easy battling anxiety & chronic pains & depressions added allergies without battling side effects of some sort am the type do not like to be slurring & less active about being alert.

I got this 3 years ago because my ocd was so bad that i couldn't go to school go outside or do almost anything. I was 13 at the time. so the first day i took it i progressivly thrugh out day day got more and more happy beound anything i've ever felt until i felt like everything in the world was like it was supposed to be and even more happy than that. i started calling up old friends that i hadn't heard from for years and started talking to random strangers outside just because i was so happy. i then took a walk in the forest and thought everything was so beautifull and it felt like i was in love but with no one. the same weekend i sat up the whole night both days and almost didn't feel tired. I took this for one year and during that time my ocd damped down a bit but never dissapeared. i stopped doing this in the beginning of the summer for me it didn't have any negative effects whatsoever other that a lot of unproductivity and no motivation to do anything productive like creating stuff, when i got off it. no depression etc.

+Austin Yipeo i am not against using the medication, but they should monitor their patients for serious side effects. Most patients won't go to the clinic to report the side effects cuz they don't want to pay for another visit. They come for us (pharmacists). Yet sadly pharmacists' role are still restricted though we do know about drugs more than physicians.
Austin Yipeo (18 days ago)
Rain ouchen make sure you eat *healthy* ketosis. It’s the healthiest diet in the world, the only cons of it are that it is harder to workout (but to counter that, you eat a little more protein and salt two hours before you workout) and if you’re stranded in the desert, you’d die faster than someone on a traditional carb diet but wouldn’t be as irritable as them from low blood sugar. Second tip is to avoid/moderate all supernormal stimuli. Examples are drugs, smart phone time, social media, music, shopping, gambling, video games, porn, eating (that’s why you do keto so you lose cravings to sugars and carbs) etc. Those activities are addictions which all roughly elevate the brain to 200% of normal dopamine levels which so does morphine which is only a third the strength of heroin. Alcohol is more dangerous than heroin fwi.
Austin Yipeo (18 days ago)
thenewking X they never find the root cause so the person diagnosed will actually end up wanting to kill themselves

Anyone considering to take this here was my experience with Zoloft *1st day* After a couple hours, felt extremely drowsy and sleepy, nothing bad, it was fun. I felt good. *2nd day* Felt perfectly normal for the first 6 hours, but my digestive system was overworking, I went through digestion in 2 hours and felt empty 2 hours after eating. After those 6 hours I lost appetite, felt grossed out by everything. Extreme headaches and insomnia at night but still bearable *3rd day* Woke up with a headache, tired, didn't want to move, back pain. Throughout the day I started feeling more and more anxious. I reached a point of anxiety that I had never reached before in my life. Got extremely anxious, and couldn't eat. The one time I tried to eat that day I inmeadiatly got EXTREMELY nautious, anxious and was sweating, my heart rate was going really fast, and I really think I would have vomited if it weren't because my stomach was empty. After that I hard stopped taking it. After 3 days I did experience withdrawals but nothing really too bad Was taking ~70Mg each day, tablets were 150Mg cut in half.

Ulvur Arnason really pleased for you. I'm nervous of starting it after other failed attempts with other medications. Plus my case is complicated. -All the best

You have to decide what's more important. Your sexual life or your ability to function well again. Zoloft makes things down there kind of dormant. You practically have to concentrate all your thoughts in order to climax .

I have spent months researching treating premature ejaculation quickly and found a great resource at Magic Remedy Method (google it if you are interested)

This model, that model, "might", "maybe", "could" .... they have no idea how any of these SSRI/SNRI drugs actually work, or even *if* they work.
The Drug Classroom (1 year ago)
Clinical trials have shown they do indeed work. As for how they work, until we fully understand the central nervous system, it'll be difficult to give a full account of how a large portion of CNS drugs work.

Should I take this shit? Im only 13. I have a life. I dont want it fucked up so early. I'm sorry if you guys are not a fan of a little child swearing. But my psychiatrist is a huge dick. He seemed too ready to put me on pills.

Go with a good sound opinion from a caring 'knowledgeable' Dr, no worries and remember this is just my experience but if it helped then that's one more piece of advice you have on board. My Dr has weaned me off it so I can FEEL more in life...take care :)
Ivanna (1 year ago)
Shadow Man thanks. It hurts me how people don’t tell you what to expect from the medications they prescribe you. It’s all money, at least how I view it. Thanks again.
Shadow Man (1 year ago)
Please do as I have been on Zoloft for 4 years and weaned off 200 mgs down to 25mg and a week ago came off it and all hell has broken loose in my brain....Google Zoloft withdrawal symptoms and that's me and what's more my Dr NEVER told me about these withdrawal effects! Please be very careful all shrinks answers seem to end in a script for something when you may just need to talk or cry or yell and scream. Take it easy and god bless :)

Edwin Gonzalez , people will do what they can, to feel better than having to suffer. My own personal advice is exactly that, it's my own opinion that we (meaning I still am) have to just suffer through part of our lives, and that's not a bad thing, I'll keep suffering till it's my time, like the Lord made it. And I still know how to keep my chin up and put a natural smile on my face and that's from the heart. But I still don't think people should go from ad to ad, till they try to believe they have the right one. Sorry man but there pretty much all the same. I still wish the best for you and your friend. God bless
Edwin Gonzalez (4 months ago)
Timothy Carter trust me I've known the guy forever he's shown me all the meds he's tried and so far Zoloft/Sertraline works the best and he's already tried medical marijuana and he didn't like it even if it was CBD oil
Ibanez Guitars (4 months ago)
Edwin Gonzalez there's a lot more ways for people to help themselves than thinking an AD is the only way for help, sorry about your friend though, I wish him luck.
Ibanez Guitars (4 months ago)
MellowMadnessRMX , you might take it, but it's not really helpful as far as healing you. It's only making more problems for the future. That shit is garbage!!!!
Harris Hemion (1 year ago)
I currently take 125mg a day for depression and anxiety. It is quite effective for anxiety and somewhat effective for depression. On the other hand I often feel like a robot, and my thoughts are more muddled now. Currently I feel like sertraline is the lesser of two evils.
Óðinn (1 year ago)
harris hemion what do you mean by muddled? Can you go into detail
TJ Devereaux (1 year ago)
I'm willing to try anything, because......(this is a response I've posted to other antidepressant vids too)....I've been on Buspirone, Citalopram, and clonazepam to sleep, for years....we've tried different dosages, different times, but the only emotion that I can feel fully is depression. It pretty much killed my sex drive, but I've been taking testosterone injections for that (i'm a 48-year-old gay man), which has helped a little bit, but it's also killed my ability to feel any kind of high whatsoever. Remember when you were a child and you can get super excited about something? Well, I can't feel that anymore, no matter how good the news is, I feel nothing, I literally feel dead inside. But the depression deepens, to a point where I've been suicidal many many times. To the point where I cry myself to sleep and wake up in tears, and I'm beginning to give up. I just began seeing a new psychiatrist, he seems really nice, in fact I have my second session with him tomorrow, so I pray to God that he can help me either get off these medications, or find ones that actually work for me, because there's no way in hell I can take this anymore. I've suffered from depression most of my life, but when I was 20 I also had to deal with ulcerative colitis and colon cancer, from the age of 20 up until just this past December, I've endured 33 absolutely brutal surgeries, leaving me with less than 5% of my entire gastrointestinal tract left, they even removed my rectum and stitched it shut, a devastating blow to my sex life is a gay man. And that's only the tip of the iceberg, I also developed five chronic, often crippling diseases as side effects of my treatment for the Colitis and cancer, and the cancer has returned three times already. Combined that, with absolutely horrendous family problems, I'm amazed that I haven't killed myself yet, but I'm getting closer and closer each day, it's like living in a cloud of darkness, where I can see no light and feel no happiness or joy, with only misery and pain as my companion. I simply do not see the point of living anymore, if all I have left is pain, then why should I bother? I'm desperate for help, if anybody has any suggestions, I'm all ears, thanks.

TJ Devereaux sorry for what you have been through :-/. Could the new psychiatrist help you?
Elias F (1 year ago)
I've been diagnosed with Depression, GAD, OCD, and ADHD and just got prescribed sertraline on top of my bupropion. Hopefully it makes a difference but the potential side effects are pretty disheartening and makes me want to instead just self medicate with marijuana, tianeptine or kratom, ketamine and psilocybin, and the occasional etizolam.
Missingno. :3 (8 months ago)
did the sertraline work for you?
