How to make a 5$ Pocket Stun Gun

6461 ratings | 210939 views
First off, sorry this is a weekly science video, it feels like a cop out ( due to the fact that it is practically nothing new ) so hopefully I'll be able to get some experiment video or something out this week, ( it was a bit busy this past week with the end my my school semester because I am a procrastinator ) Anyways... Leave a comment telling me what you want to see! Also any critique is appreciated! ( besides talking too fast... don't worry I am working on that :P ) Intro Made by Tate Storey, check out his channel! : http://youtu.be/dCyHF8QJzHU Follow me on Twitter for ...fun? : https://twitter.com/Keyst0neScience •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Mini portable Jacob's ladder : http://youtu.be/QuofggSn7rA Microwave oven transformer: http://youtu.be/21aR8RezdQ8 High voltage power supply : http://youtu.be/k5uNa13Li1I •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Inquires: Hobcoman@gmail.com •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Music : Broke For Free - Night Owl Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Twitter: @Keyst0neScience Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/KeystoneScience/

This could be used for more than just a purpose of self defense or inflicting any kind of harm on others but for a tool to possibly help you survive.. If you have the knowledge or know-how use it when need be.

I received a nasty shock when I saw him hitting cutters with a hammer to get through the nails. Still, what he does with his own tools is his business.

You can make a taser out of a disposable camera.

You should make a video making a magnetic bearing that Larry Spring invented.

can you make a homemade boost converter?

There's something I like here, it's that you explained the science behind it
AndersenPoel (2 months ago)
Built this. Worked. Broke. Took it apart. Rebuilt it. Broke. Took it apart. Rebuilt it. Broke. Took it apart. Rebuilt it after the transformer stopped working. Waiting to rebuild it before it breaks again. Lemme know what r thots r on why it has just stopped working after a few uses. Am I holding the button two long?
AndersenPoel (2 months ago)
Well I didn’t use nails and kind of modified the build just to make it a little nicer looking. And instead of nails, I used an old plug. I took the two prongs that go in the wall and at first bent them closer but found they were too thick to produce an arch. So I added solder to make it a bit pointier so ur will arch and it worked! But I found every once and a while it will light up where I connected the two red wires to the plug (like u did the nail) rather than the end of the plug prongs. So it stopped working all together till I took it apart just now and it still makes the arch but only with the wires, no plug. Do u know why it won’t follow thru to the plug prongs?
Keystone Science (2 months ago)
I have no idea, mine has never broken, are the nails too far apart?
InfinXGamer (2 months ago)
I love how my boost converter completely failed, i hooked it up correctly and absolutely nothing happened, i tried cutting my high voltage wires short, then using the recommended voltage, then different 9V battery's, switches, and even a new converter. Nothing, not even a spark when i grab the high voltage wires

Very informative, I appreciate that you not only show how to make the device, but explain how, and why the device works as well.  Thx for the video.
Sentient2x (2 months ago)
You need more detailed info. Like, how far apart am I supposed to put the nails. You say it’s important but just give a visual guide. Seriously?

Awesome video... These produce high voltage but basically no current, right? Could a few of these be put in parallel and series to make a high voltage power supply for experiments like the water bridge.

Great video like how you explain your tech while talking fast hate watching videos that take for ever cause the person talks too slow, also I know your use of odd objects for tools like pounding notes with mini tv's and cutting nails with tin snips definitely not recommended but on the other hand people need to understand a good mechanic will use what ever he can to get a job done if they don't have the required tool

Good job but ive think u e can u try make a stun gun compact from small flashlight also use the same batterys for the flashlight https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Handheld-Flashlight-Adjustable-Resistant/dp/B00R5VM3FM/ref=br_lf_m_aaya2u65njtj88u_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&s=hi u can check it its usualy more bigger price i lost mine actually while ago sems like im lucky :D but i was thinking u can add 2 tubes in + with 2 wholes on the glass idk if its glass or plastic and idk if its shock proof but if the ring is plastic and the up side 2 like old one i had is good one to try idk do what u gotta do now its like 9 bucks

1 Question: is the internal capacitor going to explode if i am pushing the Button but there is no way the secondary coil is closing its circuit by arking because the 2 metal spikes are to far away?
Das_Fischstäbchenfutter (11 months ago)
Keystone Science So i bought myself 1 of these generators. Ive powered it with a 9V battery and it worked well. There were some arcs. But today ive powered it first time with my labor current generator (BT-153) with 9V (Like the battery) and i ajusted the current to max (3.32Amps) and now it is destroyed. There is a high noise if i power it with my battery but there are no arks anymore. But why is it destroyed? I powered it with the same Volts as the battery.
Das_Fischstäbchenfutter (11 months ago)
Keystone Science Wow thanks for the fast answer! Earned a sub ;)
Keystone Science (11 months ago)
+Das_Fischstäbchenfutter nope, you don’t have to worry about the caps exploding, the secondary does close the circuit ( when the capacitors reach the charge necessary to jump the gap, they will discharge through it
Corporal (11 months ago)
Small question, do you happen to know how to rig this up with a dynamo to charge it more easily? I wouldn't like to have to swap batteries constantly

Which is the difference with this model and the taser? which is more powerful? thanks afterwards and thanks for share ur science :D

I did everything ass you, but my taser just make some wired sound, no arc, i try with different 9v battery, reduced gap between two wires but no arcs...
Owez (1 year ago)
What are the laws of tasers? Are they legal for self-defense?
scott dilks (9 months ago)
who cares. You, I and everybody else have the right to defend themselves from harm, no matter what the 'laws' say.
Cuda FX (1 year ago)
entertaining to watch, but... the super cheap tactile switches are crap, the soldering and tool abuse made me flinch, and the short electrode distance makes this a searing cattle prodder, rather than a stun gun, causing debilitating cramps. (yes, fellow smart ass, you still need a spark gap, to protect the coils. =

What if the transformer stops working?
Alex V-i-P (1 year ago)
Very very annoying!!!!
Andras Kovacs (1 year ago)
I am having an issue with residual charge. After firing the device, there still seems to be some kind of charge left which must be discharged using a piece of metal to short out the terminals. Accidental shocked from this residual charge after firing the device is unwanted. Do you know how to prevent this? Such as using some kind of resistor to drain the power into heat energy? If you could have any advice or feedback it would be appreciated, thanks!
