Persona 5 was brilliant. Haven't played many jrpg's, but I'm glad I decided on P5.
101 hours of engaging, gripping story line, with beautifully designed visuals.
I got so attached to the characters that I never wanted the game to end.
Again for any and all Persona 5 lovers and players. Can you enjoy the game and by pass all the back to high school mini games my 46 year old self has no interest? Or is that part of the joy of the title and will semi ruin it if i do not embrace that part too?
do i need to play previous series to understand valkyria chronicles ??
i'm so glad ffix got on the list, it's my fav ff series. and i'd personally put nier automata over persona 5. it's kind of a dilemma because both of them are great games and automatically on topnof my top list.
60% of comments why ffxv not in the list. guys. ffxv is overrated. It has great visuals, i give you that but story and character development. I say mehhh. Most of its gameplay is side quests. like 20%main story then 80% side quests. Not as good as the previous ffgames.
Kyo78245 because it’s by far the worst final fantasy game ever made (main titled, discounting any spinoffs like Tactics, which i haven’t played unfortunately).
i’ve been playing the FF series since 1990 on nintendo 8 bit, and while there have been some missteps over the years (for example: ff5 has an amazing customization system for jobs, one that hasn’t really been seen or utilized in the same way before or since that game, but the story and characters are about as cookie cutter and generic as a game can be), for the most part all of the main numbered games are highly enjoyable - the best ones being among the best games in history (ff4, ff6, ff7, ff8, ff9 for old school; ffx and ffxii for “newer” styles).
final fantasy 15 definitely has a lot of fan service type moments - it was nice to see chocobos you could ride again (as opposed to the mere “appearance” of one in ff13, if you could even call that little thing a chocobo) - and from chapters 1-7 the game has a pretty decent story, even if the all-male “guy trip” cast is a retarded idea imo (i know some people like the cast, and i am not meaning to disregard their opinions; to each their own), but from chapter 8 onward it turns into a total obscene shitshow, and serves as a fine example of effortless, awful, asinine, and incomplete story telling.
the fact that the only way to possibly understand wtf is going on and what the characters are referring to when speaking about the events that took place prior to the start of the game is to watch the Kingslaive movie just goes to show how rushed and incomplete the game was upon release. the first nine games in the series really didn’t differ much from one another insofar as gameplay, yet the storytelling and narrative is what made final fantasy a perennial powerhouse in the realm of jrpgs. characters you could love and empathize with, whom you could relate to and/or become emotionally invested. the turn based gameplay was secondary to that. it was all about great storytelling (again, not EVERY one of those nine games had the best story ever, but even the ones like ff3 and ff5 - which had the weakest casts and plots - still managed to provide a complete narrative and tale).
the same cannot be said of ff15. the devs either rushed the release to meet the “final” deadline date and offered an incomplete game storywise, or they intentionally released it that way knowing they could offer a “season pass” for more money, thus offering “new” content to provide a more comprehensive and acceptable story. whether it was a matter of incompetence due to rushing for a deadline, or a money grab in season pass, the game is a massive pile of garbage and completely unacceptable from a company that was always known for their groundbreaking graphics and unmatched story telling.
i finished the game, the “original” incarnation of it, and it left a foul taste in my mouth. from the incomprehensible narrative (ch 8 onward), to the ease of battle against the “final” boss (seriously, has ff ever had an easier final boss than that? NO, and perhaps some enjoy easy games, but i for one would like to be challenged to beat the final enemy, not spend 4 minutes spamming the button commands that appear on screen to hold your hand through a final battle, only to then watch the clusterfuck of an ending that made ZERO sense), this was manure-grade story telling at it’s worst.
sure, the gameplay was fun .....for the first 15ish hours, until one realizes the manner in which you battle the first enemy of the game is identical to how battles go for the remainder of it. no variance whatsoever. no magic (anyone who claims mixing those stupid stones to create “magic you can throw” is ignorant to how final fantasy has always worked). WHERE IS THE MAGE who can cast actual spells??? oh, right, we don’t need one since we can just buy 99x high potions and spam those to heal. WHERE IS THE BLACK MAGIC CASTER?? oh right, we don’t need one because magic isn’t needed when you can just teleport around with Noctis as your other part members moronically die (thanks awesome AI), and kill everything in sight with button mashing.
suffice it to say, these are just a few of the reasons why this horrible game didn’t make the list.
Sorry, but I don’t like Berseria. It’s gameplay and story is so convoluted that I never even finished it. The weapon system, for example, is unnecessarily complicated even by JRPG standards with so many stats, so many different status effects, and having different effects on different enemies! Why couldn’t it be more like Persona 5 which kept things simple with only 2 stats: “accuracy” and “damage”. Easy to understand, nice and simple....
....and don’t get me started on how the game forced you to grind each and every weapon in the game to “level up” your character
If you like Berseria over P5, that's cool. After all, everyone said that it's clearly not for newcomers or people not familiar with Tales (more specifically, Zestiria) lore. The story and lore is super confusing to me though. Here's where it gets ridiculous: I play P5 in Japanese (my third language) but Berseria in Chinese (my mother tongue)....yet, I have a easier time understanding Persona's lore than ToB, and it's in my MOTHER TONGUE!!!!
In just the first couple minutes, you're greeted with a bunch of lore like Malaks...energy flow.....diseases, or curse....bla bla bla.....it's overwhelming. Then there's this shirtless dude who keeps butting into my story and I don't even know WHY, mainly just because he's some guy from the prequel which I never played! That guy interrupted *THREE* BOSS FIGHTS! xD
lol it's not meant to be easy
the battle system not much of an upgrade to the previous best battle sys ( but it's still playable and 'simple' enough for a newcomer to play it
I'd say it keeps the battle interesting
If you just play as Velvet for the whole story then I don't think it should be a problem because her burst lliterally changes her mode to every enemy's weakness
she's hella OP if you want to finish the game easier
also storywise and characters
P5 concept is good but I feel that it lacks the good storytelling charm
I agree with you. My main problem with Berseria was I really didn't care for the majority of the characters. I know they were trying to play them off as "edgy anti-heroes" but they just came off as whiney and melodramatic IMO. Tales of Zestiria had a much better 9and funny as hell) cast, and I actually enjoyed it much more, although most all critics try to say Berseria was a better game.
Berseria also have a horrible habit of wasting time: I remember clearly how the game made me fight across a HUGE and tedious map (the Aldina Grassland for you Tales fans) for no reason. It doesn't progress the story at all, and to add insult to injury, it makes you think you're at least going to fight a Dragon boss and get some special item just to have that boss fight be a fake one as your fight got interrupted (by Zaveid) and you gained nothing; not even exp. The only reward you get from that whole chapter is a hoverboard that makes you walk faster...that's it.
Luca D?Innocenzio absolutely not! even as an avid jrpg fan of 25+ years, i had somehow never heard of (or possibly overlooked) the Ys series. picked this game up on a whim after reading a few reviews and trying the free demo (which is still available on the ps store btw), and i can honestly say it is one of the best jrpgs i’ve ever had the pleasure of playing.
the main protagonist - Adol - has apparently been the main character in all of the games (excluding Ys Origins, which is set a few hundred or thousand years before Adol’s first journey, thus he is not featured in it), and while he’s been in 7 games prior to this, you need not have played any of the others to become fully engaged and engrossed in Ys VIII.
i’m sure that for longtime fans of the series who have played one or more of the prior games, VIII likely has a good bit of fanfare/fan service insofar as recurring characters and references to things that have happened before the events of VIII. however, none of the games are direct sequels or continuances from one to the next beyond the fan service/references i mentioned.
VIII can be played as a standalone title, and it should be played by someone like you (and myself!) - any jrpg fan will adore this game as much as i have.
How a childish game like persona 5 beats the life of ffxv and ffxiii and ffxii and ffix, final fantasy games are the behemoth of an rpg how is persona 5 beats them the game looks so childish I should let my 9 years old kid play it, it doesn't deserve that score, that score deserve for final fantasy games
Sofaris woow dude relex I love p5 so much and I didn't find what u say was true that comment was a just test of how many people replies since everytime on youtube I say something no body replies, but now I said fuck it let me say something bad about my favourite game of all time, and I have few people got the trick and noticed me 😂😂😂 p5 has a very heavy theme and a well written characters I actually related a lot to them especially the protagonist and mishima, they both have the same dark past as me I was a weak person who everyone put the blame on and make fun off but when I played this game it gave me courge and now i'm a changed person this game changed my life completely and that's why it was always going to be my favourite game of all time no game did that to me and I'm just playing ffxii now for the first time and the game is amazing with loveable characters my favourite is balthier 😍😂😂 I love him, but as much as I love ffxii it never going to beat persona 5 to me
I dont know about this. I personally love P5 way more than Final Fantasy. I did not played to many FFs but FFX and FFXII are in my opinion not half as amazing as P5.
But it does has a ähm how do I put this? It has a lot of Kids Anime vibes. It explores dark stuff like blackmale, abuse, sexual harassment, corruption, suicide and stuff like that but its not like that a Kids Anime can not be dark ore have deep themes ore well written Characters. I honestly wonder if Persona 5 ore Digimon Tamers is darker. I would say from the fell and style of it P5 is like playing a Kids Anime. I mean its not aimed fore kids. Its rated M after all but it gives this feel Animes like Digimon ore Detektive Conan/Case Closed gave me when I was a Kid. It has this whimsicalness. I personally dont found thats a bad thing. Its actually pretty awesome. I mean look at Avatar Last Airbender. Its a Kids Show and it has been prized to high haven. Most people Adults and Kids love that show to death.
Now I personally love P5. Its the best game I have played to this day. And I am not the only one who loves it. But it could be that its not your cup of tea.
Maybe this Video can help you finding that out.
Prince Mwamba oh okay, but it probably gonna be one of those games they give u a 10 hours of story and then the rest is all Dlc i'm not buying an game incomplete then the rest of the story contents is dlc's like ffxv which is fine I can pay but nah not again
I'd put nier above persona 5 in all honesty, as much as i enjoyed persona 5 at points it felt bland ranking up some of the confidents. Nier, I didn't stop playing for a month, never bored, even with the grinding.
Star Ocean 3: Til the End if Time... "beautiful story?" This game and its plot twist ruined the franchise going forward.
I'd rather have Star Ocean 2: The Second Story/ Evolution, which has a PS4 digital release in Japan only.
I know these were based on on ratings the games all got, but I couldn't see how Persona 5 is the top JRPG on the system. Some of the games on this list were not only better, but a lot better than it in my opinion. It also pales in comparison to Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ which released near the end of last year as well, but didn't have the popularity of Persona 5. These ratings are more of what is the most popular, instead of what is actually the best of the games.
cramitycramcram yes I have played Persona 5 and after playing Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ I felt that a game like Persona 5 would have been about a million times better if set up like Tokyo Xanadu Ex+. Persona 5 felt like a chore to play through, being a fun game sure didn't seem like it was the point of the game at all. Personally I would rate Persona 5 maybe on a scale of 1 to 10 around the 4-6 range myself. Combat wasn't bad but the dungeons were a chore to play through and personally watching paint dry is about the level of fun I would say the game was, which is sad because I love turn based rpg's.
The battle system (esp. with the bosses) is what killed it for me. It's just broken, and the camera spins around so fast and at all the wrong angles, who just end up mashing buttons not knowing what the hell is going on half the time. It does have beutiful graphics, and the open world is awesome (esp. a s bad as they screwed it up on FF13 and made it too linear). The characters as OK, but you don't really end up feeling attached to any of them and their background.
Wakane it's not bad. It's actually a pretty decent final fantasy title. I just got bored and really realllly disappointed in the later chapters. If you grind even a little bit, you are probably going to be op for the end of the game. Not a bad thing but I would've liked more of a challenging end of game. Some of the areas, like costlemark tower are just fucking frustratingly bad level design. Tight hallways where your group is constantly in your way and a shit ton of the same enemies in an area you can easily spend 2+ hours on if you want to find everything or if you, like I did, get lost constantly lol. The most fun part about the game is the visuals and wandering around on chocobos. I fucking loved riding the chocobos probably more than the average person lol. The story is meh. Feels rushed and kind of barren. Which sucks because I really love the characters. All and all, good game but disappointing. It's worth playing.
if i gonna get a JRPG for my bday
i thinking between these games
I am setsuna
tales of beseria
otherers i either have (like nier)
or not intrested in them.
i not interested in persona 5....looks complicated and i dont get it. with the talking to people and somone at gym said it changed him. What makes this game so great? somone please explain!
Trust me, I am kind of a casual gamer and P5 was my first of the series...it is not complicated at all, I mean if you want to 100% complete it yes, it may be a bit, but you can really enjoy the game without getting crazy. Just pay attention to time management. If you still don't have it I highly recommend it., I spent around 250 hours on it before getting bored (finished it 3 times, still miss 8 trophies).
bubbaXzone Yeah, best JRPG, if not understand the story, you can go watch the Persona5 animation, coming in this season. Just that, if u watched, u knew the all story of the games. Last week I just bought this games, none stop to play, addicted!
Sayd Monirul Islam it all depends from poins of view. I didn’t like ffXII at all, and i played every final fantasy from 1 to 10: 12 in my opinion is the first really shitty one. I liked the witcher 3 a lot
Well, i am with you. I played all final fantasy games except 1,2, and 11. And i say i liked all of them. I bought 15 day 1 and finished the story in 2 days. Well the game is pretty good but the story is not complete. I still play 15 from time to time. I am glad that they are completing the game and still releasing dlc till now. I hope season pass 2 would be the last thing they release for the game. Plus FFXIII trilogy are great games especially FFXIII-2. That game is underrated!
Little Anime Monster Eh, that’s your opinion ;3 I enjoyed travelling through the world and the character interactions, I enjoyed doing the secret dungeons and the different activities around the world. We both have different opinions, you might think the game is a mess but I don’t....
King Sora How can you say that any of the older games had "limitations" and then go on to say that XV's combat was any better? Like, you can use three moves and beat the entire game; heck, you can use one (circle) and call it a day. Magic is pretty much non-existent and you can't even summon at will... You can't use other characters outside of battle, even after all those updates... the game is a mess.
eric lin I played Day One as well, I admit the game was released unfinished but if you were to replay it now you’d have way more fun. Also the FFVII remake is using the same combat system and graphics as FFXV.
i played day one , dont know if u can play others character now , but they should let u play since day one and no on updates... dont get me wrong , i supported the game too FFseries , wishing they doing more games ... like ffVII remake. I tried to like it , but just feels off for me.
I loved the gameplay, but hated the cheesy dialogue with the characters. I was though really impressed by the very dark ending, that really threw me off, but it made for a really good story in the end.
Davicito same. Well, I liked literally everything but the plot. The characters are all nice and so is the dialogue, but the ending was weird.
You just learn that 2b was made to kill 9s, and they reveal this out of nowhere.
Though the final fight was cool, letting you choose who to fight.
Trips, I hate ff 15 and it has nothing to do with the combat, the combat is it's only saving grace, and even that is only ok. The story is lame, the characters are even worse. It is a representation of the worst way to do open world. Get a quest to go check the onions on a guys farm, drive there for literally 5 minutes, fight one monster, drive back for another 5 minutes, get a follow up quest to go check carrots at the same farm...
why bc it's not turn based out dated garbage? Can't stand nostalgia freaks like you. Turn base isn't bad but get over it the times have changed and just bc a game isn't turn based doesn't mean it's garbage.
It's not dying, just the FF series (which has gone downhill after FF X IMO). The Tales series, Persona series, and now the Dragon Quest series have made some of, if not the best of, their franchise on the current consoles. Square just has to get their head out of their asses, they are going down the same road Capcom did with the Resident Evil series, which is not listening to their fanbase.
Sir Galahad they're offline games/ all of em/ sword art online online is kinda like the . hack series, being an offline game telling a story of a fictional online game/ if u have any internet connection on your PS4 than u don't need ps plus to download any title off the ps store/ even the f2p doesn't require a membership- jus sux that basic full price games do 4 multiplayer/ anyway, if u wanna check em out I'd suggest getting em used online through GameStop, or gamefly/ maybe Amazon with it's next day shipping/
Aphiet Aprianto sorry but Dragon Quest 2 is considered a JRPG. It is an action JRPG, not all JRPG's are turn based. The action, turn-based, and strategy are all sub categories to JRPG. Can't think of any turn-based WRPG's though offhand, but there are WRPG's that are strategy and action based both. WRPG and JRPG are main categories where as action rpg's, strategy rpg's, and turn-based rpg's are all sub-categories.
