When these ducts are damaged, bile builds up in the liver (cholestasis) and over time damages the tissue. This can lead to scarring, fibrosis and cirrhosis.

Awesome explanation! My Mom had this. She received a new liver a week ago and is now doing better. This mysterious disease is awful. Please be patient with people afflected with this disease. They tend to suffer from confusion especially in stage four.
